Last time I updated through nVidia Experience, I was getting brief freezing, touchpad problems, and general oddities (but no BSOD's). I uninstalled ALL the nVidia drivers and installed them the old-fashioned way (just ran the executable like I always did before). Choose 'Custom Install', and skip the NV Experience. Same drivers that choked when loading through the NV Experience ran fine this way.

FWIW, you need to take note of the info that the BSOD is telling you. You may have a RAM issue, or a failing HDD, or perhaps your OS install has some problems and needs to be redone. If you're not yet on Windows 10, now might end up being a good time.

@EchoWars - NVidia Experience seems to raise a lot of hairs and perhaps causes more problems than it might claim to address. Good guidelines there you provided for opting out of it.

BSODs are sometimes kind of elusive. A program designed to analyze the minidump data (if any) left behind can help pinpoint the common denominator, though (in cases where the causes are inconsistent, then sometimes failing RAM or storage might be to blame).

I used to have the BSOD problem when I had a faulty HDD.

Run a few diagnostic tests - HDD(S.M.A.R.T test), RAM(memory diagnostics) etc.

If you're not sure how to do those, google them. And post back.

    Edit:
Just noticed EchoWars had mentioned HDD/Mem check.

Yup, either a bad memory or bad HDD can contribute BSOD issue because of data corruption.

Yes, it can be hardware fault. It seems that, more often than not, the issue is software related.

Yes, defective hardware contribute to software corruption in the end.

Hey thanks guys I'll definetly check them out. I checked out some of my logs and it looks like some of my BSOD's is from NVLDDMKM error, which looking it up is the nvidia driver.

    Hey All

I'm back, with another problem :(.

The touch panel has suddenly stopped working. The only thing that changed, AFAIK, is nVidia Experience got updated.

Any help would be great, thanks a lot.

WHat laptop, what OS, and what is your hardware ID for the graphics card, what bios and EC version are you using too, maybe I can help (kinds bored , and browsing around the forums, so why not :p)

is your card error 43 when you start windows or does it crash then then go to error 43 when in windows ? Like does it happen when you connect something, maybe a power issues... instead of a drive issue. Could be something else is prioritizing all the resources.. need to know more , maybe I can help. Even if I can't who knows, maybe I can learn something :p

Hi guys, i got some issues with my GT60, i'd be glad if you could help me :)
-Touchpad: at the startup (from both standby and shutdown) touchpad doesn't work, it turns on and off over and over again very quicly (as i can see from the synaptic's icon), but when I press Ctrl+Alt+canc it starts to work properly. But sometimes, there is no synaptic's icon and even pressing Ctrl+Alt+canc doesn't solve the problem. (an external mouse works always properly)
-Keyboard, the same: sometimes at the startup it doesn't work at all!! I have always to reboot system. (this problem came out with updating to win10)
-Battery: when battery is low, my pc doesn't warn me and it turns off without any normal procedures, it's like if suddently power goes out.
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. E16F4IMS.50H, 09/12/2013
    OS: win10 x64
    Synaptic drivers: 19.0.6.1
    Keyboard driver: 10.0.10586.0

I wanted to update BIOS but there is nothing for win10, just until win 8.1 (would this work as well??)
    Thanks for help!!

    Hi gasparegrillo

I used to have this touch pad problem too ( at least a similar one ) the version of drivers that I currently have is 19.0.19.1. This works perfectly for me.

Hope this helps with that problem.

Hi everyone, new GT70 20C owner here.
I was just gifted with a GT70 20C from a relative that had some issues. I've fixed all the issues except one...the second hard drive isn't recognized in the BIOS. I've tried 2 known good HDs and still nothing.
There is a RAID controller card in the first position with two 128gb MSATAs set to RAID 0 and everything seems to work fine. I've removed the RAID card and set the BIOS to AHCI and still nothing.
I've not done a complete tear down, but I think there was some type of liquid spill into the unit.
So I have two questions if anyone knows the answers.
First, any idea about the second HD not being recognized in the BIOS.
Second, any idea where to get replacement parts?
    Thanks in advance

    1. Possibly a bad SATA connectivity, a board replacement may be needed but not worth it.
    2. Through MSI directly which is the only way.

I ordered both types of HDD boards from ebay. I know I am taking a chance on possibly dodgy parts, but $10.00 total, I won't be out too much. If it is the MB, I can wait until I find one used for cheap, then replace it.
I am going to replace the MSATA drives with a larger SSD and if it is just the connector board for the second HDD, I have another SDD for that.
Plus, it bugs me not to have a fully functional unit..lol.
    Thanks for answering, btw.

Shouldn't be too much of a risk with such purchase which is also covered by eBay anyway.
    Hopefully that is it. :)

So Creative Sound Blaster Cinema has stopped working...again. The previous fix was to delete the .config file. Does anyone know any new fixes? I'm running on the latest version that was linked on MSi's forums https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=261600.0 here .
    I would appreciate any help.

Hey guys and dolls, I have two issues, first is I think my monitor on the LCD is going bad, I've not looked on Ebay yet to see what it is going to cost to replace it, as well I'm wondering if it's worth it at this point to get an SSD, and get more memory and get the LCD panel replaced (There's basically a small size of about a dime that is more lit up then others, you can only notice it on white backgrounds, but I'm odd about that sort of thing.

GT70 20D-064US-BB747012G1T0B8M is my part number of my laptop any suggestions from the group?

The new screen is about $200.00 - $300.00 typically, and adding an SSD would be ideal at this point for overall performance.

Going through would this would only be worth it if you can't afford or are not ready to buy a new system at this point. However, if this is not the case I would say shop around and go for a new model at this point and fix your current system at your leisure for good back up or nice gift to someone.

Thanks Tanner, I figured as much. I'm not ready to go with a new system just yet, but the new Quake and other style games are starting to look appealing. I'm also thinking of switching to a desktop instead of laptop, I rarely go around gaming as it is now, and just having a home PC would be just fine.

I'll be wanting to get a new SSD I think, and then I'm going to wipe and load up the OS, are the instructions still the same from a few threads back? You have to find the drivers based off the chipset and not MSI's website as they dropped support for EOL products?

MSI drivers may still work, but after a product has been EOL for a while, newer drivers released may not make it to the MSI site. Usually the MSI drivers are a good place to start just to get up and running, then you can update them later as you like.

You can obtain newer driver using a newer models on MSI's website and most of time they will work on pretty much everything except components that did not exist before.

You will need to unplug the CMOS battery which is usually located on the keyboard side therefore the motherboard will actually have to be separated from the C side in order to reach the battery. If password cannot be reset then it is hardcoded into BIOS, in that case you will have to contact MSI for RMA.

Looks like it's hardcoded into the bios. I've tried to flash the EC again, and attempted the bios but the bios only flashes INSIDE of the bios not from a Windows Program so I think I'm hosed

Hey Guys, could someone please point me to a good non-conductive thermal paste for the CPU (and GPU even?). Lately, my GT60 has been boiling up something bad and the CPU temps have been hovering at 80C-85C.

I've seen many YouTube videos and they've not been very conclusive, so any recommendations are welcome.

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know where I can get a hard drive board to replace the MSata board in the GT70 20C? I need more storage and I already have a 1TB HD in the secondary position and MSatas are stupid pricey. What I am finding now are for the secondary HD.
    Thanks

Doh! Found it, I guess my Google-Fu was weak when I looked earlier.
Looks like the part number is MS-1763 part 607-1763c-02s for anyone that needs it.

You could also use something like this to replace the ODD to add an HDD. Personally, I've never used the ODD, but it could be different for you. This is just a sample, you'll have to find the right one for you (there appear to be at least 2 sizes - 12.7mm and 9.5mm).

The adapter arrived and I installed it along with a Samsung 850 SSD in the primary and a Seagate Momentus XT in the secondary. Windows 10 install went great, except for the touchpad driver makes the touchpad flicker on and off. I'm working on that, but if anyone has a solution, I'm all ears.
I need to update the BIOS, but the instructions on MSI's site are nonsensical. I'm all ears on any suggestions on that also.

I recently got the Windows 10 Creator's update which completely destroyed the OS. So I had to get a new copy of Windows 10 and reinstall (and upgraded to Win10Pro in the process). After this, the synaptics drivers were installed by Windows update automatically. The version of the driver installed causes the same touchpad problems you've mentioned. But I've got something that works for me and here it is. Once you login, and you notice the flickering (in the taskbar if you have the animated Synaptics icon enabled), press the control button (ctrl) a few times, pressing it once would probably work too. When I hit the Ctrl button, the flickering stops and the touchpad works as expected. I also have the "Show location of the pointer when I press the CTRL key" option enabled, not sure if that is necessary though.

About the BIOS - I don't want to touch them personally so, I have no idea how to go about that.

Guys, I recently reinstalled Windows 10 on my GT60 and now Creative Sound Blaster(SB1) doesn't work at all. I've tried the Windows 7 version and the Windows 8.1 version that I got off the MSi drivers site. The sound on the laptop is absolute garbage now. I've removed the config file on both versions and it still doesn't work. So I'd like to know if there is any way to get this to work again. The error I get is that no supported audio device was found. This error appears before and after installing Realtek HD Audio Manager.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What if you install the latest driver for Windows 10? We will need to forget about CSB.

Thanks Kevin, I'll try the latest drivers. But forget about CSB1? :( Oh no, the sound is going to be crap till I get a new laptop. And I didn't plan on upgrading anytime soon since this laptop isn't all that outdated (from an HW standpoint) and does all that I need it to do. I'm never going MSi again.

The thing about that software is the crystallizer. That made the sound really good, now it sounds muffled and doesn't at all reflect the $1199 I paid for it at the time.

If you happen to know any good EQ software that can do something similar to what CBS1 used to do, that'd help tremendously. And as you probably already know, Nahimic doesn't work on laptops with GPUs lower than NVidia 9xx. So MSi has stopped support for CSB1, Nahimic doesn't work and they've just left us hanging here. I say "us" because a quick google search would reveal the number of others who are also going through this problem.

Unfortunately, the machine was built at the time where Win7/8.x were around but not Win10 and manufacturer support isn't infinite so we can't really blame them. Creative Labs charges MSI for licensing cost per OS per unit so it's not cost effective for MSI to continue to pay more for an EOL (End of Life) product. Driver also incur costs should MSI wish to move on to support newer OS.

Finally, if CBS is a critical and must have feature then it's recommended to revert back to the stock OS.

That makes sense, Kevin, good point.

Between a sh1t OS (default was Win8) and sh1t sounding speakers, I choose the latter :)

Hey all, does anyone know the BIOS upgrade path for the GT60 2oc? My current BIOS version is "E16F4IMS.50 H, 9/12/2013".
But the support page just says " If your system BIOS version is E16F4IMS.500 ~ E16F4IMS.508, please must update BIOS to E16F4IMS.50V before you update to the latest version E16F4IMS.51X.".
    So mine is not "E16F4IMS.50 0 ~ E16F4IMS.50 8", it's more like a "E16F4IMS.50 X" (Where the X is a letter of the alphabet).

Would I need to update BIOS to E16F4IMS.50 V (2014-04-07) and then to E16F4IMS.51 A (2015-03-20) (For UEFI None RAID SKU.).
    OR
Would I need to go directly to E16F4IMS.51A (2015-03-20), since my BIOS is already running a .50X (E16F4IMS.50 H, 9/12/2013) version?

And would the EC Firmware upgrade path be to 16F4EMS1.517 (2015-01-26) (Full-color Black Light keyboard - Mine is a back-lit keyboard).

Any help/insight/advice would be greatly appreciated.
I got my laptop from XoticPC.com if that is of any help.

You have to upgrade to 50V first, then 51X after.
EC is fine to upgrade to 1.517.
