Those temps are after what? Because I get similar temps when benchmarking. But gaming for long periods of time affect much more.

for me it was doing 3dmark11
-
Are you guys using an aggressive cooling pad or is that not making a difference during gaming?
-
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
i havent used my cooling pad yet
-
Was forced to load win7, and new drivers as a result (had to be modded, v.320.18,), and got P8375. Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4 score: P8375 3DMarks
-
So it's true that windows 7 is better than windows 8 for our GT60-2oD?
-
Anyone try the tape mod yet to see if that helps the load temps like someone did here?
-
Don't think so, still having some problems with Win7, generally.
-
Well well well... I like turbo boost. Sure it's noisy but it does keep things real cool! I just played Alan wake and Crysis 2 overclocked to 980/2800 with max temps of 77 cpu and 82 GPU. I tried 3dmark and got P8227, with GPU 8585 score. this laptop is definitely the best for heavy overclocking so far. I still have lotsa headroom! Plus while playing I did not use anything of my battery so far, still sitting at 100% and HWmonitor shows no battery consumption.
Now lets try overclocking the CPU.... -
I'm kind of confused how you need to have hybrid power open in order to use hybrid power? .... so if power consumption goes over 180w and you don't have it open, does it tell you to open it? And if you don't, does the Nvidia just get downclocked on the fly to keep it right at the 180w limit?
On battery mode, can you be using the dedicated GPU at all or is it blocked?
Try running furmark + prime95 on all cores and see how Cooler Boost does.
I hope the -2oc models have this powerful fan too since they will stay even cooler then.
EDIT: Can anybody post a pic of how far back the screen can go? -
I am waiting impatiently for the unlocked VBOIS..

Would anyone be able to share recovery disk 2 via an .ISO with me? I wasn't able make recovery disks from the MSI program because I don't have the TB drive, so I had some made for me by Gentechpc. However, disk 2 was corrupted and unreadable (resulting in a formatted, unusable drive, which is why I reverted back to a copy of Win7 I had). I'd be very appreciate if someone could!
-
My with my GX60 same thing happened and nobody helped me, and that I have more than 40 people. It seems lazy.
My computer broke down when updating an unlocked bios and took advantage of the RMA to say that I reinstall, the recovery partition.
ISO climbed 6 Mega.co.nz, if you want I can pass the ISO 2 ( 4gb ). -
Where's the iso or disk?
-
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
you could use this to do a clean install :
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...i98HFb4oC59xNqqGxDLH-4Q&bvm=bv.47883778,d.aWc
I dont think it is illegal since its only the install disk and nothing more and u can t really use it unless u have windows 8 keys but if the mods deem it to be bad than i will take thing link off -
Hey ryzeki, hows the review comming? would love to read it!
-
It's going alright. I like testing as much as possible and write toughts about it. Windows 8 has been posing many issues so far, with my games using GFWL not working. The laptop itself is very good, but I don't like how msi handled the temps when not using turbo fan and while gaming. What I do love is how easy you can game with heavy overclock easily with turbofan! I am basically using an almost full GTX680 here
-
I should take a couple more days to finish writting the main part and publish it. Afterwards I will be constantly updating with pics, scores and petitions
Witchet 2 full settings and ubersampling with 25fps? hell yeah! -
Try to run certain games in compatible mode. Right click on the .exe file and select the tab with compatibility tick mark compatibility mode and select different operating system until may work. Sometimes this solves the issue.

180 degrees

The disks get created through the MSI recovery program on the desktop. I wasn't able to create them myself because the program looks for the 1 TB drive that got replaced in my machine.
-
Thanks for the post to the link, but I wanted to use the recovery disk series so that I would have all of the drivers and utilities. Not all of the utilities are available on MSI's website, for example, the Sound Blaster Cinema that comes pre-installed, which helps sound quality a lot IMO.
-
Let me try to upload them
They're 14 GB though. -
+1 <3. I only need disk 2, though!
-
Disk 2, here you go!

Thank you SO much!! Downloading now
-
xMAR99 , what connection you have xD ? In Spain my conection is very sloow
Only 100/10 mbps by ftth.
imagen -
Would you believe that Disk 4 is also corrupt? What did Ken do to me?
-
Hahaha, not really sure, sitting in a research lab so its pretty fast.
No worries man, definitely out of his hands.
Anyway, I got you covered, uploading.
-
TY! Downloading -- wish me luck when I restore
-
Good thing you obtained the discs
i was going to start looking for them. Here in mexico i have a 200/200Mb symmetrical connection
As for th GFWL i see its an issue with the gfwl client iself. For example batman arkham city usually launched the client to log on and then play, but here its not even launching so my save file does not appear. Others like lost planet 2, resident evil 5, warhammer 40k spacemarine et simply dont run, i get a dark screen and nothing running.
The rest of the games seem fine so far. -
So going with W7 for gaming is a better option, I was going back and forth on whether to go with W8 or W7 so if there are issues with W8 for gaming I guess W7 is the right choice.
It's very strange that games made for Windows don't run/luanch with W8 since both OS's are made by MS.
I was willing to try W8 but I guess it will have to wait, I'm sure MS will have an update to fix things but I can see how frustrating it is especially since everyone has new laptops.
Did you try STEAM? Download it there and try launching.
Anyone have W7 running on the GT60? Any issues? -
Thanks for the disc help everyone! They worked and I was able to restore, so I'm back on Windows 8 now!
Yes, I was running Windows 7 for a day-ish. The main problem with going Win7 is that some utilities are not available, like BlueStacks and Sound Blaster Cinema, are not available to download. In addition, if you go 7 right now, youll have to find/modify NVIDIA drivers. I used a newer version modded for use with the 780m. They worked better than ours, but had some problems with SimCity on origin. I think we're all going to get a little bit of a performance boost once NVIDIA releases new drivers for us!
Thanks again. -
Again, I remember reading somewhere that Haswell requires win 8 to perform at its best. Esp with battery management or something. Can't remember or find the page right now :\
I haven't had any issues with games so far with Win8, so if you're willing to mod the UI and do some regedits I'd strongly recommend sticking with Win 8 -
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
dont u still have the driver disk , it has all the utilities on it
-
Hey has anyone else had an issue, where after gaming, the battery says 97~ or so% avail, not charging?
-
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
yes, but once it dips under 95% it starts charging
-
Hi xMAR99
I sow peoples running 3dmark11 and telling about their temperatures. Why not compile a table with that temperatures?
So the next guy will run 3dmark on his home and compare using that table. Everyone on the world will find that post and compare temps.
Only a suggestion ^^ -
Killerinstinct Notebook Evangelist
W8 isn't really that bad , its actually much better than W7 in my opinion once u get rid of the start screen and what not , also so far steam installed perfectly
also does anyone have a hint of blue in there screens, i also wished there was IPS screen in these
-
Sure
I'll do my best
-
Haswell didn't seem to have a problem with Win7.
-
He was talking about power consumption and low power states.
Win 7 turns off devices when not needed and back on when they are required to do a task. This process consumes a bit more power than normal. MS introduced sleep with Win 7 but that puts the entire machine on that state. With Win 8 they refined this. Coupled with the right platform, Win 8 can put single devices on low power modes (sleep) and still make them operational from time to time. At least power consumption is a bit more linear. Getting out of sleep is faster than a fresh power on. Just like smartphones today. Win 8 is a nice piece of software engineering. It's the UI most people complain about.
-
All my issues with GFWL games are directly about Steam installation. I am still looking into it as I am sure there is a solution to make the games launch and also trigger GFWL client to run. Right now I am facinated with the performance using turboboost. I don't even care about the sound, running at 1ghz core and 2800 memory is just so awesome
and at decent temps too (84 C so far).
-
Try putting the memory at 1500 instead of 1400
With an unlocked vBIOS we should reach 90% of desktop GTX680 performance without increasing much temps
(And being optimistic even full GTX680 speeds
)
-
I'm thinking about picking one of these up. What (if any) docking solutions do people use?
Another question I'm sure you can hook external speakers with the dual Sound Blaster connections to these? -
I will sure do! Once I return home tonight I should finish writting the review itself and will devote some time to test 3000mhz memory and 1ghz core and see whats up
Well I don't have a particular dock, but I accomodated my desk in a way to put my laptop over a cooler master U2. I only have things placed around the laptop to connect it as a desktop when I use it at my desk. So I have the mouse, keyboard and HDMI cables around my cooler to place the laptop, hook it and use my desk and big screen

3dmark is not all that great for temperatures, it tends to take some time for the temperatures to max and the short tests don't really show what that will be.
-
AlwaysSearching Notebook Evangelist
While this is true they still can be useful.
If you see high temps in 3dmark you can be sure that there is going to be issues when gaming. -
2 things:
1) Is anyone else's touch panel loose on the left side? Mine isn't terribly loose but it presses down pretty easily while on the right side it's only a little loose.
2) Is it normal for my spacebar, Alt Gr, Ctrl and right arrow look slightly green when i set them to a whitish color?
