I have been gaming at 980mhz/3000mhz for some hours now. Those clocks yield this Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4 score: P8287 3DMarks
Not bad eh? I will push it a bit more on the core, gonna break the 9k barrier![]()
1) No, mine is perfectly sturdy and still, it is not loose. Definitely contact your reseller/MSI and get pictures up to see.
2) Yes, it is normal, and I noticed that too. Some keys light up differently and not all distribution is 100% even. If you look at all tones at different bridgness levels, you will notice some are simply slightly darker/stronger colored, which also means that when aiming for white, ends up with slightly tinted color.

My review is almost done to be on a publish-able manner. tis around 6 pages so far
Need to update some pics, benches/scores. Most likely will be published tomorrow! Stay tuned
For now, I am going to go sleep haha. -
Can't wait ryzeki, I can already tell it's going to be a great review.

Does anybody know what memory they used (model) in those systems and if it is low voltage 1.35V or standard 1.5V? I am sure the timings are at 1600 Mhz, wondering if it supports 1866 or even higher 2133...

I knew that, I am wondering what manufacturer. If it's the same hynix cheap chinese memory I may order some kingston hyperx DDR3L...

All in all I am impressed with the package. I will not spoil things yet! I should have it up for tonight posted, at least all the written part with some pics and screenies. -
I am torn between swapping out my CPU for the i7 4900mq or waiting. I was thinking I would prepare for BF4, and CPU clock speed helps a lot in BF. Anyone think its worth the difference? Also found out that I have a 3 year warranty due to the policy of my credit card.

Maybe you will get high enough fps already to even bother with 4900 haha

Thanks both of you. I will hold off for now, and maybe upgrade to the 4930mx in a year or so when prices fall. Can't find any of them on ebay yet.

(Hardware limitations) -
Today I have received my system from GentechPC and all I can say is WOW!!! MSI has really improved their products over years.
If any of you who are looking at reading about if you should buy or not, all I can say to you is do not have second thoughts. This is coming from a guy who is using Alienware computers since 2009.
I was one step away from actually buying another alienware m17xr5 when I compared the specs on this system with the alienware and the price was over $500-$600 with all the goodies you get from it (SSD, BLURAY, MEMORY, KILLER WIRELESS AND LAN etc.).
I thought and thought about it and then I said, is this MSI really that poor quality that they can make the price so much less than the alienware.
While I was studying both, I have noticed though the alienware has all the new design and all the rings and bells about the lights (I am not trying to put down alienware, I am still 100% for them; those are great build machines), but when I saw that even the new keyboard is so stupid and so cheap looking I simply turned around and never looked back.
There was when I came to the MSI thread on this forum and start reading if there is any reliable company to deal with (because I have a wonderful experience with Dell customer support). That is when I found out about GentechPC, mainly Ken; I cannot believe how wonderful he is and what he went through to make everything possible and make sure I get what I want and how I want according to my needs and possibilities, no questions asked.
I am not exaggerating or trying to take his side because I wand to promote their business, but he is a truly amazing and trustworthy person, it shows that he really cares about his customers and he does everything to make them happy. Ken, if you read this, thank you so much!
Back to the machine. I wanted something lighter and somehow a good quality machine. So I went from several alienware m14x (both revision) to Lenovo y400 with 750M and so on (by the way, Lenovo is a piece of sh_ _ t; cheap from the inside out, I will never go close to those ideapad... I better do not go into other stories) and wanted something when I move around a lot to have it with me. Unfortunately I cannot carry the alienware m18xR2 (though it completes all my requirements) all over and all the time, its an expensive piece of art and its okay for a long travel period, but when you go here in there, I needed something lighter and still somehow powerful.
There is where MSI completed or even went above my expectations. Great job MSI, keep the good work going on. Even if you cannot afford this machine, go with a lower end GPU and if possible without the SSD (Eventually you can upgrade them later on), this machine is really worth every penny. It is light weight, good built quality, sharp screen and very responsive. I like the metal parts they put on this system, this way it is more durable and it also gives some style to it.
Thanks guys for reading my obsession and I hope nobody is getting upset for my statement. -
I strongly agree about Ken@Gentech -
Thanks xMAR99. Actually because of your thread I went ahead with buying this system. I was looking for something in the range of 14-15 inch and yet powerful with a removable mxm GPU. Unfortunately most of systems are either to small and not powerful enough or too big and heavy. The result was either clevo / sager or MSI. Since I have an issue with the warranty in Canada for Clevo / Sager and I do not want to wait 2-3 weeks to have my rig fixed, I decided to go with MSI.
Your thread made me go all in and start finding out more about this system, especially when I saw the GTX 780M in it... It really matters the light change according to the GPU you use (You mentioned earlier that this has been there for a while, but people like me never knew and it is a very big point to look into). Sometimes you get low frames in applications or games and you do not know why. There you go, the light is telling you everything, who is the culprit to your problem. Maybe now you are more clear why I brought this up sometimes back... -

about the NOS system, i was playing for around 6 - 8 hours of Crysis 3 and then it hit 30 % lol and cpu clocked down but i was also OC to 950/2800 on my gpu the entire time and the temps on GPU were 85 the whole time when i was playing with cooler boost on. also i have 2 msata ssd and a hdd so that also might take up some power
.... but the laptop does charge fast

Thanks ryzeki. I am glad to be here. I want to add some copper to those sinks but unfortunately are too thick and they do not allow the back cover to close properly (I don't even want to let them touch the bottom, to end up with some issues...). I will have to file them a bit and stick them to the system to see if it will help with the cooling in anyway possible. I am a bit skeptical about cooling solutions and I hope this will be a good start.
-
I'll recieve mine this saturday so will be joining your team too
Just place them in a way that it doesn't block internal air circulation. The last thing you'll want is an isolated fan
Let us know how it goes!!
Good luck! -
I seem to have lost around 2% in 15 mins of OC use!

I hope it does get resolved ASAP. -
What games are you guys playing and what fps are you getting?
So far I've played:
Battlefield 3 (ultra settings)- 60+fps
League of Legends (max settings)- 150-200fps
Guild Wars 2 (max settings)- 60-70fps
Need for Speed: Most Wanted (max settings) - 45fps -
Can you test the performances on Company of Heroes 2 Steam Beta ?
I'm wondering how the 780m performs with high/ultra settings, AA ON and medium/high physics... -

So, a little bit of update on the system.
I tried to affix those thermal copper heatsinks (they already come with thermal sticky paste on one side) and I put about 8 of them. Unfortunately does not make any difference though I could feel them get hot. The issue is that the area where those powerful devices (GPU & CPU) are located is too small and there is not enough room space for cooling (The copper they have used, it definitely suffice). That is why turbo cooling system (when the fan runs at 100%), the system is stable and out of any heat issue. I totally recommend while playing games or doing any intensive benchmarking etc. to use this feature in order to have this system out of problems in long term use (for a number of years). -
Thx a lot.
Company of Heroes 2 will be one of my main game for the next months. So the results will make me decide if yes or no, I'll buy this GT60. -
Company of Heroes is my kind of games too. I´m waiting the next version os man of war =D -
I'll try testing CoH2 when I get off work

I'll try a clean install of w8 and if it still doesn't work... RMA time -

Nope there, weren't any lights, but a couple restarts later, it's now working. Guess the software needed some time to initialize or something.
Great system. Had me worried a bit there, but now it's perfect. -
Glad to hear its working again!

In all honesty the system does get warm when gaming UNLESS you use Cooler Boost/Turbo Fan. I played BF3 last night with all 4 cores at 3.4GHz, and the system OC the GPU to 849/2497. Without cooler boost OFF I was getting mid 80s CPU/ and upwards of 90C GPU. The system did not throttle nor did it have any performance loss. But the fans stayed very low and quiet. When using Cooler Boost my GPU is around 70C and CPU 65-75C depending on the game. And the fan is.. audible.haha. But its a single fan cooling such a beast, and it does the job very well. As others have said if they had picked a different middle ground you wouldn't need cooler boost on. I usually always game with max fans so it doesn't bother me at all.
MSI designed the system to be on the edge for heating in order to keep it quiet. When not gaming the system does not have any noticeable fan noise. I seriously can't hear my fans spinning at all when I'm not gaming, and it runs nice and cool.
In any case I am not worried one bit about the heat. I have a 3 year warranty on this system. With a year of accidental damage coverage. -
Those are rocking awesome temps talon! Much better than mine
Try overclocking! MSI afterburner works right out of the box. Since you use turbofan, you won't notice that much higher temps! My highest stable on stock voltage, for gaming, is +135mhz/+400mhz. When gaming on +500mhz I get an artifact every now and then. Oh, and remember to use hybrid power.
If you don't want to use hybrid power, you can still OC around +100/+200 without issues if I remember correctly. At least that works with my system. -
Having said that though, glad to hear you can compare it favorably to the G51! I remember back in the day we were all fighting that thing with temps, in fact I still have one of the modified back panels that had all the extra holes drilled and cut out for extra air flow ha. Never actually had an issue with it function wise and was a nice machine for the money, but she sure ran warm. Have visions of similar issues with the new MSI's... glad to hear they aren't all hot, but definitely curious what the difference machine to machine is if other than paste quality.
Sucks that Anadtech seem to get a hot running one.
Thanks for the info!
