A little bit of an update on that Bluetooth issue... It looks like this new NVidia driver 326.41 it is not giving trouble.

As I mentioned before it has something to do with the audio frequency of the Bluetooth and optimus, creating issues in the system things like temporary freeze. For some reason, after installing this new beta driver the problem is gone for now (though I have only tried it for few hours).

Whoever was facing a similar problem with the killer Bluetooth driver, uninstall the NVidia driver and all the NVidia stuff, do a ccleaner and registry cleaner, as well as driver fusion (older was driver sweeper) restart and reinstall the new beta driver from here Drivers | GeForce (does not require any mod of the driver to be done. However, be aware that this is a beta driver and it may not be 100% stable.

I hope it will work out for everyone as well.

My old GT60 is now with a friend hes loving the machine btw, but has a small issue.

I think its driver related. But he said that some times when hes on the power he wants to force iGPU use. (doesn't need the 780M for downloading torrents etc) But the light will flash white to orange the whole time, something is conflicting the optimus system. I read here about steam being the issue. Hes not running steam. Just web browsers.

On other note he fixed the fan idle buzz that drove me mad, he greased it up and it seems to have gone. I'f only I had read of that here before. He games with the cooling boost on to keep it really cool and headphones. Doesn't bother him. :)

A gpu monitoring program would cause that everytine it pings the gpu for temperature readings.

Yeah, as Meaker said, when you use things like GPUz, MSI afterburner or anything that polls the GPU for anything, it will launch the dedicated GPU and unless you close whats using it, it will remain on.

Alright, got the drivers installed with the flashed GPU. The whole issue was Windows 8 being silly due to enforcing signature drivers. The trick was to reboot with advanced options and disabling driver enforcement, so now I am sporting the unlocked GPU!

I was able to overclock the core over 1ghz, but I haven't tested yet much. I will today and post results! I shall get over 9k GPU score :D

You never knew that?! It has been mentioned several times on this forum. However, you do not have to do that with the latest nvidia beta driver.

I got over 9000 with the 680m (true with a 1180mhz core clock). Targets should be 10k with the 780m ;p

Yep, apologies Ryzeki, I'd have mentioned that in my previous post but I assumed you knew from other driver updates... any time you use a modified inf you'll have to disable driver enforcement while installing, and after a reboot it's back to normal.

Also, I believe you do still have to do that with the latest driver due to the unlocked vBIOS and different ID codes, have you tried it Julient? I know it works with stock vBIOS 780m's but the beta prior to this one did not work with Svl7's modded vBIOS. Quick mod of the inf and all was well (with driver enforcement disabled).

The 320.49's have been totally stable both at stock clock and overclocked/overvolted so I've stuck with them after reading the issues with the 326's.

Have fun with the overclocking, I needed a bit more voltage past 145ish to be totally stable, and have run up to around 1022 on the core and have only run memory up to +500 (3000). Svl7's vBIOS is great in that it enables all the sliders to work properly in the newest version of Nvidia Inspector (I'm running version 1.9.7.2). Voltage offset I've played with has been up to +62.5mv thus far but temps are still cool and everything's been stable. That got a bit over 9K in 3dMark11 graphics score. I plan to play with it a bit more but haven't had time unfortunately due to work.

Specifically about this 780m requiring it? Nope but that's because I didn't research it before. My previous GPUs and machines all have used unlocked vbios that do not require modified inf because they maintain devices ids.

Now that I have, well, you could say it becomes obvious once you tweak it. I haven't had the need for unsigned drivers in such a long while.

Oh I know, but I have to start little by little. First I get to 9k, then 9.5k and then 10k. Bear in mind I mean GPU score mainly :D

Don't worry, I was also bound to realize it myself. When I exhausted my options including manually installing the drivers from device manager, windows told me the issue.

I haven't had time either, but today at night I will put some benches and check it out. I am using afterburner for now, I will see how it goes and also acquire nvidia inspector to test both. Afterburner has a slider in the form of power % I think.

Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F4 1019/3000 max temp 84 personal fan profile

    9.1k GPU score :)

I am not sure I am going to fiddle much with higher OCs for now. I tried 1040 and more and there is an audible sound coming from the laptop, as if the GPU is engagint with more power being demanded. The result was constant crashes between tests and I wasn't able to go further with the core, not even by upping the voltage slightly.

I will take it slowly for now until there is more research and tests by vbios tweakers as well as possible workaround for the power limiting of the PSU. One run of 3dmark11 caused my battery to drop 1 percent.

Very nice score there! I imagine a bit more OC and I can match it, but I am no sure I want to do that yet haha. Unlike my 680m, this time around we are dealing with a different beast :) and it seems I will benefit by undervolting the CPU this time around.

Maybe later I will see to match such score! :D I mean I only overclocked from 980 to 1020 and got from 8675 to 9111. Maybe at 1040 :D

Was playing around the gaming section of the boards, and it appears svl7 added way more power than we have even thought of trying ;) From the screenshot below it looks like 262mv to me! :D

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/723012-gtx-780m-overclocking-tool-4.html#post9260293

EDIT: Does anybody have a source for the T&T fan? I PM'd the gentleman on the boards but never got a response. Would be curious to try one for comparisons with my noisy NSTech fan that is a bit quieter after grease but still a slight hint of whine.

Yeah, Mine started whining at 165mv and 110% power, so I decided against using it. The good part is that achieving the 9.1k GPU score was rather easy. The bad part is that it requires a hefty power increase just to keep playing with higher frequencies.

I mean on stock voltage I end up at 980/2950 with no issues gaming for hours. Getting over 1020mhz is costing me quite a bit ahaha.

And since we are stuck with 180w PSU plus battery, I am not sure how well it will hold up compared to their 240/330w PSUs

I'm having problems with my USB ports. I have a Seagate GoFlex 3.0 Ext HDD that when I connect to any of the 3.0 ports will sometimes come online for a few moments but then disappear from Explorer and Disc Management. It works fine on 2.0 port. I have a 3.0 enclosure for a portable 2.5" HDD that shows as eSATA in Disc Management but requests initialization. I cannot get it to initialize at all. I have a Galaxy Note 2 (Samsung Modem Drivers on computer) that when I connect to 2.0 or any of the two 3.0 left of card reader DM starts flipping out and ultimately returns "USB not unrecognized" and "Port Reset Failed". I can only get it to connect properly on the lone 3.0 port to right of card reader.

I could connect all of these fine to my Asus G73JW.

MSI said the drivers are generic Win8 drivers and so I should refresh my computer through F3. I did the return to stock, keep files version of recovery so far with no success.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues or have thoughts on troubleshooting?

For now I got back my 16F3 from the person I sold it to (long story and they are not as informed as I thought they were).

So instead of risking that I am going to slap a 770M in it and a 3720QM, play with it a bit and then sell it so I will be bringing some 770M love for now, 780M love when I settle down again.

I took a leap and installed it as well. So far I noticed it does ramp up the fan slightly but not much at boot from cold boot, and the fan seems to idle at 20%, instead of the super silent stock 10%. I am able to set 10% with daves tool and regain silent mode. But I did like how it stayed quiet at all times before. Gaming wise BF3 for 30min the temps without turbo fan had me around 89C, and it did not go above or throttle. The fan was not at max speeds as I tested by turning on turbo fan and it increased speed quite a bit. My guess is maybe 70-75% max? I'm not sure yet what they did to the hybrid power. Further testing needed.

If anyone wants to go back to the previous version, please do so (but I do not guarantee that you will not break your machine, though nothing happened to mine while flashing back and forth).

I am providing here below, direct links to all the releases from MSI firmware for the 'FAN profile':

    501 (first release, the silent one ;)) - http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/frm_exe/w8_16F4EMS1.501.zip

504 (the one that was making the fan going crazy when you turn the machine on) - http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/frm_exe/w8_16F4EMS1.504.zip

505 (already provided above the details by our brother Talon, which is the final release to date) - http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/frm_exe/w8_16F4EMS1.505.zip

    Enjoy them! :D

We should ask Svet as far as fan EC tables go. He did it with the previous GT60. I mean modding the bin file with custom values. Like for example setting 10% on less stressful tasks and once the GPU/CPU goes on full, set it like 80%.
That should keep the noise reasonable and provide enough cooling (max 82°C on my machine, stock paste and thermal pads).
I'll try and contact him :)

Someone here pulled info on the two fans and the NStech one is more powerful I remember reading. What difference it makes i dont know, but the trade off is more noise. At least mine was, it had the siren like on and off buzz noise at idle that would have driven me insane.

I think they would be basically the same cooling wise. I would go for the quieter one.

Long story short, my GT60 I sold to a friend I might be forced to take it back...He is now saying I sold him a lemon (He was happy at the time) and doesn't want it now geez do someone a favor importing a notebook for them and it bites you in the rear . I need a no returns policy ;) But for friends it doesn't work it seems.

So I might have my old gt60 back and have to sell it or "learn" to like it. Do people think MSI will replace the fan under global warranty in Europe? But just the fan, I don't want to have to post the whole unit to them and have it gone for weeks.

Finally got my new lappy :D!!!

I spent all night trying to leave it ready for all daily use. Installing work software, office, steam, origin, uplay, msi afterburner, etc etc etc.

I am not sure of some issues I have, so I hope someone can guide me a little bit:

    1) @cloudpm: I have the same doubt. How can I know which version am I using?

    2) I updated the firmware of the laptop to the latest one. I am happy about the turbo fan not being as loudy as I expected (although IT IS LOUD). Using hybrid power with turbo fan, gave me ~1000 more points in the FF XIV Benchmark with a total of ~9400.

    3) I have A LOT of trouble with my USB 3.0 External Drive. It is a WD 2TB Drive that I use mainly to store work documents and steam games, it run flawlessly on my Alienware's USB 3.0 ports but in my new GT 60 just keeps disconnecting and making it impossible to use. The only port which seems to work, is the powered one. Is this normal? I must say that I tried to update USB 3.0 drivers from MSI page but I didn't see them aviable.

    4) My GTX 780m is detected, but I cant update to new drivers no matter if they are WHQL or beta. I've read some about the .inf files but I'm still confused. If I modify those .inf should I get further problems? Like incompatibility, BSOD or something...

    5) Speaking of BSOD, I have something weird going on. Sometimes my screen goes totally black (for example in the FF XIV Bench) and the only way to get image again, is to ALT+TAB and then going back to the application. Could this be related to GPU Drivers?

I think that´s all for now.

P.S. Sorry if I skip some "a" letter, I have some troubles with the A key because I stroke it in the "lower-right" side of the key and it doesn't catch it up to well...

Loaded the new EC, it did stop the fan blasting to full speed on power up, so that's a plus! Also, seems they did tweak the fan speeds a bit, it's still 20% or so at idle instead of the 10% on the out of the box EC, but gaming fan speeds seem to have been bumped up a bit this time. Just played a round of BF3 and left fans on auto, and temps are as Talon reports, topping out around 89-90C. Before they would hit 92-93 and then start dropping boost. This, as said, is not using turbo (Cooler Boost).

Still not as good as we can do with manual fan tools, but an improvement. It's definitely an improvement for those that upgraded to the previous EC, but will be a bit noisier at ilde than with the out of box EC so if you've still got that one I'd wait until we test some more if totally quiet while doing basic tasks is important.

Hybrid power is changed as well, at least in the program that monitors it, but not sure what that actually means.

I have already posted sometime back a copy of the original (check page no. 141). If you are not happy with the current one, you can reinstall the 501 version and have it setup as when you got it out of the box.

I posted on this USB 3.0 issue a few pages back. My Seagate 2TB works find on other systems but only works on USB 2.0 on this machine, sometimes the 3.0 right of the card reader and NOT the two side-by-side left of the reader. Similarly, my Galaxy Note 2 only connects to the lone 3.0 right of reader and NOT any other. My Rocketfish enclosure with 500GB HDD won't even initialize on any USB ports.

I've done a complete Win8 install as suggested by MSI (after first trying refresh that keeps files). No improvement. MSI says the drivers are direct from MS so no drivers to download from manufacturer. Next step is RMA says MSI... screw that, I'm exchanging with Amazon.

Hey Sunsurf, I think I've missed a PM from you as well, have been traveling and not around much... I haven't had any connection issues with my Note 2 or my WD Passport 1.5TB USB 3.0 disc drive on any of the ports, or any of my flash drivers, mice, gamepads, etc.... USB has simply worked as expected, both with a clean install of windows and the factory image. I would have to suspect hardware issue, and would swap it for another with Amazon as they've always been great to deal with for exchanges or returns.
