New beta drivers for me no change. Also could someone please upload a stock bios dump from GPU-Z? I think i've messed with mine too much maybe causing the hybrid use or maybe it is the new bios using hybrid much more. (Which I dont want)

Edit, tried the 780M oc addition from techinferno and it softbricks my 780M. Big scare it gave me. Windows detected microsoft display adaptor! and not my 780M Lucky for the built in 4600 GFX.

2nd edit: Nvidia GTX 780m - 'OC edition' - rev02.zip downloaded again says 780M, MSI Clevo Dell. Nope = softbrick for me.

It shouldn't soft brick, the thing is that it changes it's hardware id so you need to make a new modified inf with a new hardware id on your drivers and then disable windows 8 digitally signed driver enforcement, reboot, install, reboot... it's a bit of a hassle.

But it won't be recognized initially since the GPU basically became new, not compatible with any drivers from the get go, which is why it appears as microsoft display adapter.

Ah ok got you. I freaked a bit and also due to the size of the bios being almost twice as large. Thanks

You are welcome. You can say, "been there, done that" haha. Personally, when I was messing with it, it bothered me more than freak/scare me to be honest. While it is indeed unlocked, I only managed to overclock to 1020 stable before it began making noises from extreme OC (I was pushing too much voltage)

To keep closest to 60fps at 1440p a slight oc helps. But editing my bios I think I've overdone something as my 3dmark / Heaven scores are less than before yet higher clocks. Its odd.

I've overdone the tweaking part lol.

Edit: Back up and on the 780M OC bios. I'm going to stick to software OC :) from now on not flashing my software tested oc's

    Good Morning folks! Quick question:

if i have 1 SSD in my GT60 / 70 and want to upgrade to SuperRAID 2, do i have to install the RAID Bios from MSI Homepage?

How exactly do i setup the new RAID?

    Thanks in Advance!

You can unzip the folder and run FLASHWIN.BAT. However, I recommend to unplug anything what you have inserted in the usb / sd card reader / Bluetooth devices and turn off your antivirus. It will update just find from windows. After that the system will shut off by itself. When you will turn it on for the first time, it will take a little longer for the screen to turn on. I do recommend to do a bios default before booting and then, there you have your new bios updated. Best of luck!

Not required, simply switch from ahci to raid in the bios and re-install the os (create the backup disks first ofc lol). The raid bios defaults to raid if you reset the bios but otherwise is identical.

780 oc unlocked bios was a no go for me. i got the driver installed everything was fine till i conneced up my displayport. Monitor then showed ghosted images and my gt60 froze up, Rebooted to some kinda of boot loop. The display on my gt60 flashing on and off. No way around it. No way to boot windows.

Had to use Acronis and restore my raid image. Then flash my stock bios.

I've edited my bios with svets bios tuner and got things going right again. Slight overclock 915 max turbo. Hybrid seems to not be used now if using vsync.

Ram seems to overclock nicely. 3000 no issues. But not needed really.

Gaming at 2560 x 1440p i get good fps. temps good 80% fan 76 max after 2 hours of Chivary everything maxed.

I felt the same way when playing with the unlocked bios. Maybe I will try it later once we have better vbios but for now, I am perfectly happy with my setup! :)

I have a small issue that I would like for someone else to share their knowledge on.

Since the HDMI output is connected to the 780m, the 780m is on and displaying say Netflix or some other low-usage program. According to Hardware monitor or MSI afterburner the 780m is mostly doing 771 MHz, which are gaming speeds and therefore heats too much for really not doing anything.

Yet sometimes and I don't know what causes it the GPU downclocks all the way down to 131 or 135 MHz staying very cool. I'm using the 326.41 beta drivers and I don't know what makes it go to those low MHz, but I want it to go there when I am not gaming, yet connected to an external screen. I have tried the Windows power management and I can get the CPU to idle at 798 MHz, yet the GPU stays at 771MHz.

Any idea regarding what I should do to make the GPU to slow down to use less power and also produce less heat? (just like it does automatically some times) So I can idle at 35c on the GPU instead of 60?

Thats a hard one if you need the hdmi. I would have said force igpu for it. Netflix is triggering gaming 3d clocks and if netflix really needs that much power there is not much you can do.

Try different drivers. Or just use msi afterburner to downclock the gpu that will keep the heat down for sure.

What I don't get is what triggers it to go down all the way down to 131 MHz. On some days I boot up the laptop and watch Netflix on chrome and the clocks are 131 and some other days I do the exact same thing and the clocks are 771. This 326.41 beta driver does it automatically some times. I just thought that there might be a setting I don't know about somewhere in the NVIDIA settings or whatnot..

For example, yesterday I watched a few hours of Netflix on chrome on the HDMI output and the clocks stayed at 131 MHz all day and idled at ridiculously low temps.. Today it's at 771 MHz with 65 C idle.. yesterday it was 38. While doing the exact same thing and nothing else.. I guess this is one of the top contributors to heat on this laptop.. The GPU idling at 771 MHz.

That would help for sure. Good point kpalbo. Would disabling CUDA also help? Or the video encoding engine on the 780M.

I went mobile with my GT60 today out of town. I've noticed that Optimus is still very flacky at best. I have it set to auto. Yet booted to desktop on start up and the 780M was running (no apps running in background. Nothing!). I have to enter Nvidia control panel each time and then select auto again and apply finally it switches to the iGPU.

I recall having the some issues with my UX32VD with its 620M /i7U.

Even trying to force the iGPU on some apps it will run the 780M :( Nvidia still have much work to do it seems. I think it was very wise of Asus to disable the 4600 GFX on the G750. My old G750JX could do 4-5 hours which is about what I can get on this iGPU. Maybe 30 minutes more, on my Gt60. And its not worth dual switching gpus. Not in a notebook like this. In an ultrabook yes.

Would have been nice to run at least run one of the HDMI or displayports via the iGPU too....

Hi, I will be receiving my gt70 - 2oc in a day or two, was just wondering if you guys know if the nvidia geforce experience works? and do the latest drivers downloaded from it work with the gtx770? as ive read elsewhere that only drivers that msi posts work properly?

As Meaker pointed out long ago, make sure you do not have running in the background any 'monitor' software like AIDA64, HWinfo etc. It will keep switching back and forth from iGPU to dGPU. Another solution is to have the driver clean installed and the best solution is with a windows reinstallation. I always recommend fox to make a backup without the drivers for the display when they install windows fresh so that it will be easy to just restore from the backup and have the display driver installed all over again...

Yeah as mentioned, no programs. Nothing running in the background. No afterburner. No hardware monitor. No start up apps. Cold boot. But boots on 780M when set to auto. Its not switching back and forth. Just booting on the 780 when on autoselect. Clean driver install. This is with the 326.41. Beta driver issue maybe? What driver are you using that doesn't cause optimus to be hit and miss?

Its not a big enough issue for me to reinstall windows again. Just have to remember to open nvidia control panel and hit apply again each time and the igpu comes on. (when on the move away from my external monitor)

Also having Steam running in the background will force the Dgpu to run. At least it does on mine.

I'm in 326.41 since everything is running smooth I didn't find the need of changing it... As per the Steam making the dGPU run, you can switch it to the iGPU from the control panel menu.

    Windows Experience Scores

No matter what I try, I cannot get WE to qualify my nVidia graphics. I've selected High Performance in nVidia Control Panel >> 3D Management >> Global Settings but even if I see the start button glowing orange during test I'm always left with 7.2 rating based on Intel Graphics. Doing a search folks are saying you cannot disable Optimus without a clean install of Win7, and that switching to performance in Global Settings is best you can do but that doesn't actually prevent my system from using Intel chip for basic apps.

    Any ideas?

I changed Steam to run off iGPU. It really made no sense to me why that would need any kind of graphics at all. All the games will load using dGPU, but Steam itself did not need the dGPU.

I'm trying 326.58 now. So far installed. Disconnected power and rebooted. Desktop started on iGPU :D. (I didn't have steam as a start up app) Using ccleaner I remove all startup entries.

Will test but looks like its Nvidia driver related.

Also to people running 2560 x 1440p if any out there other than myself. It seems that whatever I do, hybrid will always be used. Unless its half life 2 for example. Not a taxing game. I guess 1440p is touching the power limits requiring hybrid. I'm just going to have to live with it. Battery will be charging and discharging alot now i guess. I wish MSI gave us an option to disable it if we wanted.

Plug to a hdtv or monitor via hdmi or displayport (and vga i guess too) it will use dGPU for WEI test. I did that and got 7.9 in graphics.

I would suggest this driver, getting the best performance so far with it. Tried 326.41/320.41/320/83 and the only one that offer good performance with minimal micro stuttering and lag is 326.58. Also gives a 200+ jump in 3dmark11.

T&T fan arrived and Installed today. Finally, 3rd time lucky. Silent fan at idle :) So quite in fact I thought it was not working till I hit the turbo boost . I'm seeing no difference in the temps. I have a print screen of the NStech temps after 1 3dmark11 run on default clocks (80% fan). So will do the same and compare at 80% with the T&T.

Edit: My NSTech fan must have been in bad shape? Temps on my T&T are so much cooler. Ambient temp the same 24c aircon.

    Both fans were at 80%

    NSTech at 80% fan 1 3dmark11 run
    [IMG]
    T&T fan at 80% fan 1 x 3dmark11 run

The T&T at turbo seems a little quieter. Maybe thats were the difference is in the cooler booster 2. Since I don't use turbo fan but 70 or 80% it doesn't matter much to be.

Got a loud fan idle? Don't need turbo cooler boost, get the T&T :)

2nd Edit: Someone here had high temps? Maybe its a faulty NStech fan that is not putting out the rpm it should?

The Driver 326.80 Beta, for me until WHQL is released, is a keeper.
With the developer beta (326.58) was getting some stuttering in Battlefield 3 when VSync was enabled, but now it run smoothly with Vsync enabled.

Those are some really nice temps you have there Hendrickson. I am still using the NSTech fan. Mine is silent and works great. But its nice to hear you finally have a very nice cool n quiet machine. Thats proof alone to potential owners that MSI GT60/70 machines do not have any sort of throttling or overheating issues. Granted BF3 will likely pushed your GPU temps up a bit higher, but still won't result in either of above mentioned issues.

Yes my temps have really improved. Playing Chivary maxed a few hours in 2560 x 1440p My GPU hit 73 with 80% fan. That's much better than I had before. Would have been close to 80 degrees.

So I don't think I'm going to make a Frankenstein fan from both fans. As I don't need turbo cooler boost mode which is where the NSTech fan is better due to top faster rpm.

Also how do you set 75% fan speed? Its in 10% increments for me using the fan tool.

He uses custom profiles with Pherein's Fan Tool... I downloaded but haven't set it up yet. He released is a while back for older MSI machines but it works on the GT60 as well. Don't have a direct link handy but it's available on the boards here if you search for Pherein. Main difference is you set up a profile that for a certain temp it runs the fan at a set speed.

Glad to hear you are getting your machine sorted to your liking! Intrigued by the T&T fan as well.

EDIT: Check this thread here, I believe it's linked in Pherein's signature:

Thanks for the headsup and as be77solo said, I use pherein's tool which alters the fan tables rather than force the fans at a particular speed :) So I am silent when browsing but loud when gaming automatically.

No offence, but when majster msi was boosting over this forum that he has them and he can sell at a very reasonable price, many have buttered in saying that he is too expensive and you can get them for much cheaper. But I have never seen anybody selling at his price and shipping them the way he had done it for me. I have ordered already 3 fans from him, 2 T&T and 1 NSTECH and they are all in perfect condition performing optimal (he lives in Europe and I got the items in Canada within a week time, some even in a shorter period of time).

However, I believe at the moment he does not have in stock the T&T one, but you can PM him and ask about it. I bought several items from him (I think I have already mentioned this earlier) and he is very reliable.

BTW, I tried the new NSTECH (got from him only) and it works the same as the one I made as a 'mod' (NSTECH mixed with the T&T one). Very silent at idle and same speed at turbo.

Touch the G button on the controller bar (System Control Manager) and enable it from there :D

Hey guys, I discovered yesterday something I haven't seen before since I bought my GT60.

A "dead" or "semi dead" pixel :/
The strange thing is that I can only see it when I sit in front of my screen. The more you move on the left or right, it seems like it disappears.

It is a grey pixel and doesn't seem to take effect on all the layers of the lcd screen. I've tried UDpixel, tried to turn off the screen, put a pressure on it while turning on the screen again, nothing worked.

PS : we do not see it at all while gaming. You really have to look closed to see a small grey pixel when using an unified clear color wallpaper.

Any solutions for me ? :/
    Thx a lot

You can also enable it by Fn+F6. Try testing it with skype and see if it works :)

You have tried the common fixes if that fails. Like the pixel unsticker videos etc. Nothing you can do about it. Don't MSI support if it bothers you that much?

My HDD access light is dead. Again MSI support to fix that would be expensive courier fee with FedEx or DHL. So I just put up with no hdd light.
