Very nice. Personally I think I'll get a GT60 2OD since it is significantly cheaper than the GT70 and more portable. Can't wait to place my order in the next couple of days hopefully.

 

Including SuperRAID adapter even in non-SuperRAID configurations (1 x mSATA) is VERY nice of MSI

 

We just need Samsung to release a mSATA line with almost 840 Pro speeds

Hi Ken could you shed some light on my doubt regarding about the Logo backlight at the back of the LCD. As from what i see from your video review, it looks like its just a normal chrome logo where as the previous model of the GT60 0ne has logo backlight.

 

Or you can throw 3 of the upcoming Crucial M500 512GB mSATA SSDs and have decently performing 1,5TB array (which would cost as much as the laptop itself )

Anyone willing show us how the NOS works? Thanks in advance

Id go for 3x240gb intel 525 drives myself but im getting the barebone with lots of 2.5" potential.

Or go crazy and put 3x 500gb msata m500 and 2x m500 500gb 2.5" in a 5 drive raid array for 2.5tb of storage.

if there is a hardware raid 5 option I'd do that instead, 2Tb of storage and 1 failure allowed, assuming how low the chances are that 2 or more drives fail simultaneously.....

 

You need the unlocked bios to do that but yes it is there.

Why stop there? Specially modify the 2.5" slot and the ODD with 2 more Super raid 2 adapters and go for a 9 mSata ssd raid array.

Super raid has 3 sata ports going to it, the others dont so cant have more bandwith than one.

I have previously edited the BIOS with a newer intel raid rom with AMI_Aptio_EFI_MMTool_v4.50.0.23
so I guess using that tool to read the BIOS file can also simply unhide all features in the BIOS.....? or we have to extract the sectors from another desktop bios and replace it into the BIOS to unlock the options(my guess is to unhide it since they need to be pre-configured in the original BIOS anyway)

 

lets see when they can make a laptop with 6 slots so we can reach the maximum number of sata III speed ports as suggested by intel, and when is the sata express going to be announced and manufactured....

 

Any info out there on what kind of 5760x1080 playability will this setup have?

I currently have a MSI GX60 which is an awesome machine for what it is, for the price it is quite the performer and the 7970m is one awesome card, yet the A10-4600m that powers it leaves a lot of headroom to be desired.
I am considering getting this laptop, as the CPU is somewhat 3-4 times more powerful which could mean a decent increase in potential FPS on some very CPU intensive games such as the Arma or GTA series. Yet, I have become accustomed with playing on an Eyefinity display. Adjusting the settings you can get 25-30 FPS on games such as Far Cry 3 and GTA4 at those resolutions with the GX60 No Anti aliasing for sure, but good enough. Yet, I am not exaclty happy with how other games turn out no matter how much I tweak the settings, it seems the CPU is being the culprit for bad performance. Or having to settle with extremely small draw distances, and only having a 40% GPU utilization at those distances..

Will the 780m have some good Nvidia Surround support without SLI? Or will I have to forego that crutial part of the PC Masterrace experience which is multiscreen gaming?

It is advertised that this laptop can power up to 3 external displays + the built in screen. But it doesn't mention anywhere about gaming on multiple screens.

As an alternative, what would the SLI options be? I don't know too much about building computers but I read a while ago about an MSI external graphics card adapter for laptops that used the PCI express card slot or something like that.

Tomorrow, when I have time, I will run and post a few. A couple without AC, a couple with AC and low(under 30%) battery, and a couple fully charged with AC. All will be run with stock numbers. I am trying to see how well the NOS performs. Everything states that the Hybrid Power is automatic, so the different benchmarks will show the improvements.

I will also try to do a complete battery drain from full power while gaming at high power to see how long the battery lasts!

Everything GenTechpc does adds the IC Diamond. The screen is a Matte screen, with Anti Glare. It really is a great screen.

Ken, the cpu temps on the review were 98-99c. Have you tested a second machine to confirm as the gt70 is around 60-65?

Second question when time permits will you be doing a more in depth video with these? Db on the fans, temps on keyboard/handrest?

No I didn't use IC Diamond on any of my unboxing video. unboxing videos are true out of box experience and everything is factory settings include drivers.

I noticed it too but haven't test another unit, it could be just a bad paste from that unboxing unit, I'll try another unit tomorrow or maybe try IC diamond just to see the difference.

 

I ran 3dmark11 like Ken did from the Review today in an air conditioned room and hit 70C and 75C on CPU. While hotter than the Gt70 from Ken's review, its still very good temps. Also this is still on stock CPU/GPU paste. Factory paste jobs could make a big difference.

 

Thanks for the testing, maybe you can also try IC Diamond and see if it makes difference.

If you do post another test can you have audio of the fans under load and when using cooler boost it would great.Yeah it was weird to have such a big difference in temps going from the GT70 to GT60, it had me a little concerned to tell you truth enough so to consider switching to the bigger model when I don't really want too.

One more question Ken. Say I have a GT60 2OC notebook, is it possible for me to upgrade the GPU to Gtx780 at a later time when i hv enough cash as i dont have enough budget to only get the 2OC model ryt now and I need a notebook for uni.

You should be able to, you may need a new heatsink too since the cards are a bit different.

 

I can confirm CPU reached 98 at one point during my testing, I'm considering repasting. (no turbo fan)

Don't worry, I am pretty sure it's something that can be corrected with a paste job. The insides of both machines are the same so at worst, the GT60 would be ever so slightly higher in temp As Talon Reported, he had quite cooler temps.

As for the fan running, with a proper paste job using IC diamond, you will have quite a silent machine even at gaming My barebones ran at around 70ish C temps both on CPU and GPU while gaming with my last pastejob and it felt comfortable sound-wise. Not too loud to be bothered.

How long does thermal paste usually last for? Specifically IC DIamond if that matters.

I will perform test for temps both out of the box and IC diamond if necessary. I am also intrigued by full battery tests since apparently haswell is big in battery savings.
