I finally downgraded to 7 and I am left wondering why I waited so long to do this. 8.1 upgrade messed up my bluetooth and now I finally have that working again :) Though I am still having issues getting my Blu-ray drive to read discs properly, anyone have a fix for that yet?

i don't seem to have problems with BT on 8.1 here. I did have an issue after I switched over to the intel wifi card, but that's just a SCM compatibility issue. nothing major.

I don't have problems with bluetooth for the time being, but I do have some disc reading issues from time to time. It seems that every now and then I have a hard time reading discs, but then it will fix itself after reinserting the disc a couple of itmes. This has happened to me with the last 4 or so notebooks at different intervals, and brands. I assumed it was because I use it once a year hahaha :D

Tell me about it, I was making copies of my wedding fotos and it took forever to make the thing read discs! The good thing is, once it started reading, it used to work perfectly to finish the disc.

Why not use Hybrid? I do use it for all my ripping/encoding needs and it does a good job. At first it seems complicated but once you get the gripe of it, it becomes child's play. Its very configurable too for the more expert ;)

New updated BIOS and EC firmware!

    Firmware Description:
    1. Update new CPU FAN control table R07, S/W shutdown Temp 94 For Nvidia GTX 970M 980 M.
    2. Modify N16E detect.

Wonder why the are talking about 980m on a GT60?

Also I'm not updating just yet because I want to wait and see if the 980/970m works fine on older firmware.

You could pop the firmware into svet's tool to have a peek. The 980m is likely to hit the model eventually.

Honestly I would probably call MSI tech and ask them yourself. A few people recently have bricked their laptops and required RMA because of BIOS flashing/upgrading to latest version. I'm not sure of 50Y version myself, so to be 100% sure I would call MSI before flashing. That way you can hold them responsible if they tell you incorrectly!

Get the latest from the MSI website apart from the nvidia drivers which you can grab straight from them.

Besides MSI's own website, you can always visit www.station-drivers.com for the most up-to-date drivers.

    Hi all.

I need an advice. Recently I've had very high temps on my lappy when gaming. Even with new thermal pads (I've tried 0.5mm and 1mm) and (I think) good repaste, the temps seems high. I've noted that one of the parts where a screw goes in the CPU heatsink was loose, and that lack of full contact between the thermal pads and the heatsink might be the responsible of this issue:

I've applied super glue and it seem that keeps in it´s place, but then in about 1 or 2 days, I got very high temps on both CPU (95°) and GPU (90°) and when I check it, it´s loose again.

What should I do in this case? Do I have to solder? Or I have to use another type of glue?

Yes you would need it soldered for a long term solution.

Thanks man. I've never soldered my laptop before, any special consideration or recommendation to do it? Maybe the watts for the iron or any special solder.
