    Yes it does!

Since there's still not enough MSi GT627 videos on Youtube, I decided to create one for you undecided people. :D

On this video you'll see a 3DMark06 test run. A bit lengthy but at the end you'll see the 3D Score.

Wow, you guys are getting about the same as the GT725 in non-overclcocked mode..

    @dalingrin
get the GT627, ATI driver support sucks as they're dumping support for 2y old GPUs in their own drivers already, while nVidia supports GPUs back almost to the dawn of their company... (or IOW ATI == phail for support...)

GT627 form factor is MUCH nicer... trust me... the GT725 "sounds" nice on paper dimensions, but in real life, it's an overbearing monster... It's the 2nd thing that I miss most about the 1651, with the first being first class nVidia support...

OTOH the build quality of the GT725/MS-1722 seems to be higher than the above, although crappy ATI driver support more than offsets that...

    [EDIT]
Might as well, since I've already put the time into setting it up, have no real good reason to return it to newegg(i.e. would get hit with re-stocking Im sure), etc. I'll just work around it, maybe the OSS X drivers will be OK which will be workable for me as I primarily use linux for useful things and Windows only for games mostly.

Still had I known of this drop in support(before I ordered the GT725 or it shipped), I would've just gone for a GT627-218US and flipped AMD the bird. (I seriously cannot understand their twisted logic behind that decision to drop support entirely for GPUs <R600... Sure if they were nVidia with a commanding GPU lead, but the little guy who need every edge that his company can get I just don't see the logic or advantage for ATI in dropping support entirely like that along with the message that it sends to all AMD customers...

Also by the time that they drop support, I should be able to find a decently price nVidia MXM card that would work... although I don't have much in the way of tools to frabricate a new heatsink attachment... Who knows too, maybe AMD will see the light and change their policy as the announcement seems to be decidedly unpopular.
    [/EDIT]

    [EDIT2]
OK, I feel slightly better now re-checking one of the phoronix forum threads. One of the AMD employees there has clarified the report to mean that Windows driver development will continue for the older GPUs, but at a "slower pace".

X.org will be stuck with only OSS driver support, which is what that guy works on.

Not really sure if this is any better overall, but... it's beginning to look more like they're going to be going after marketing by the GPL fanatics, or so I got from the tone of the reply. (I prefer a truly open license based on BSD myself... free of restrictions...)
    [/EDIT2]

Why does it say 9800M GT instead of GS?
Is it because of the driver?
    Thanks!

Old drivers. nVidia's official drivers (179.28 and 179.48) will label it correctly.

Hey all, new to the forums because I will be purchasing the MSI GT267-218 this week but I've been browsing these forums for a while and its helped me decide that I wanted this specific laptop.

Can't wait to get this thing!

I haven't used it extensively but I did try it briefly in google chat. It worked just fine as did the built in microphone. I think the only thing I haven't tried in Windows 7 is the bluetooth. I turned it on long enough for windows to recognize it and install the drivers, but I haven't tried pairing any devices to it.

    Hello fellow GT627 owners.
I just signed up actually, because I thought I would seek some professional advice on how to configure my new laptop. I'm not completely clueless, but nor am I a professional when it comes to computers.
I was thinking of installing XP on my laptop, because I hear Vista is unable to run many older games, and frankly, I don't like it much. Yes, I understand that with XP I might take a hit on RAM, but I don't think I'd need more than what XP can detect anyways. I checked the MSI website, and there aren't any drivers for XP. However, as I have read this whole topic, some people posted that the drivers for the GX620(I think) should work. Can anyone please confirm this? I would hate to switch to XP, and encounter problems, and then have to switch back. Another concern is, if I install XP, will I lose any software that MSI provides pre-installed, that are actually worth something?

    Thank you in advance.

Also, can anyone please let me know how much this laptop can be upgraded? For example, does it support DDR3 RAM. Would I be able to replace the graphics card in the future. Things like that.

    Thank you once again.

I understand that. My concern is, in the future, in say a couple of years, when my warranty is over, if I wanted to upgrade the laptop, is it possible?

Right, but he's talking about upgrading in the future... :D

    @Bash22,

As far as I know the RAM can be upgraded to DDR3... As a matter of fact, I read somewhere that MSi decided to go to DDR2 on the GT627 to keep the laptop on budget. ;)

On the video card, I don't know yet.

As far as Windows XP, yes I read the same thing about using the GX620 XP drivers. But honestly, with the GT627 you can play all those great next gen games so why would you prefer old ones?

What kind of games you are talking about? All DirectX9 games released in the past can run on Vista, and even those older than that (even DOS games) can be played on Vista (sometimes using the compatibility mode). ;)

    Cheers!

    RayanMX.
I checked some Vista forums, and they have a whole list of "games that just don't work on Vista", and that really discouraged me from using Vista. Not only that, I'd have to get Vista 64bit, because if I'm gonna use Vista, might as well be the 64bit version, and this comes with 32bit Vista, so getting the 64bit might be a hassle. Unless there is a way to get 64bit Vista using my 32bit CDKey, I'm going for XP. So is there?

Yup. There is. Just contact Microsoft and they send you a free of cost Vista 64-bit disk but you have to pay for postage which comes around $10.
IMO, its better if you get the 64-bit Vista.

Just ordered my GT627-218 from newegg last night. Can't wait to get it (i'm impatient so i went for overnight shipping, it will be here tomorrow). I bought it mainly for business trips to have something that can game and play BR movies. I will post my impressions here tomorrow once it arrives. Thanks to everyone in this thread who have been very helpful in making mine and others decision an easy one.

Support and drivers. Much better for Vista than for XP 64 Bit.

    Congrats on your purachase. :)
I hope you dont plan on playing BR movies on battery. Users have been subjected to out of sync audio and laggy playback. ;)

Doesn't work, as I originally thought. Someone tried to order the 64b Vista disk with their key from the bottom of their GT725 and they got some message about ti not being a supported "upgrade" path.

OTOH if you have a 64b Vista disk or can borrow one from someone they key is supposed to work with any 64b disk AFAIK. I've yet to try this as I had forgotten that Vista 64b requires signed drivers, so I'm not altogether sure that I'll be bothering to "upgrade" to 64b Vista now.

    @RayanMX
Memory CANNOT be "upgraded" to DDR3 as the sockets are mechanically AND electrically incompatible with DDR2 sockets. The PM45 chipste, however, DOES support DDR3 RAM, it's just as implied, there is no way to actually install it.

    XP pro 64:
Don't bother with it. There NEVER was any worthwhile driver support. It was a definite gimmick from M$. Only go Windows 7 or Vista if you 64b.

Also SP1 for Vista was supposed to have removed most of reasons for staying with XP from what I've read and been told by others. Older game performance was increased and so was compatibility. Still not perfect, but close enough that most people sounded happy.

Hi, im very interested in buying this laptop, its smal and has good performance. :) But i have couple questions:
    1. is the case heavy enough because the LCD is very thin, i think.
    2. i read that the touchpad is too close to the keyboard, did it hinders you by typing on the keyboard?
    3. is the keyboard noisy?
    4. is the material under the keyboard good, because i don't want to scale off the place under my hands.
    5. what about fan, is it noisy?
    Thanks for comments. ;)
    sorry for my bad english.

    1. It's pretty light for a 15" laptop, and the LCD is about average thickness
    2. The touchpad is kinda close to the keyboard, and you can accidentally navigate away from where you are typing. This can be easily fixed by downloading the latest touchpad software from its maker and change its sensitivity that way. (forgot the name but it's in this thread somewhere)
    3. The keyboard is relatively quiet depending on how much force you use to type. If you apply RayanMX's keyboard flex fix, this issue is pretty much gone and the keyboard is pretty quiet.
    4. Yup the brushed aluminum is pretty strong
    5. It's very quiet most of the time, you can tell when it kicks up under heavy load but it's not bad at all.

You can either use disk management of any kind to increase the C partition size, or redirect large files to D. From my research on the web, to "move" the documents directory to a different partition / hard drive is a royal pain and may still have problems, so I skipped all that and just saved large files on D.

Personally I like to keep OS partition separate from my files (in case for re-installing OS), so that didn't bother me much at all. You can always create a shortcut to a directory in the D partition, similar to "documents", and even change the security settings for that directory if you feel the need to.

    Network update driver update problem

Installed new driver from MSI website for Realteck blalala Family pci.. Ethernet. Internet stopped working, had to roll back.
On msi its listed as "WLAN Drivers for PX600/GT62x (Intel)". In network adapters there's Intel wifi and Realtech pci-e ethernet. Drivers were updated in realtech. Was it supposed to be that way?

You need to delete the partition on D first. Once you do this then you can extend C into the free space created from deleting D. Hope that helps.

Yes delete the D partition completely then "extend" C into the free space from D.
