Np, glad you got it to work. So how is this GT627 treating you compared to your last one?

This notebook seems awesome, too bad it's not going to be for sale in The Netherlands for at least another 3 weeks :( and my old Zepto 6615WD just decided to die, too. I don't want to wait :D

Anyway I got some questions for you GT627 owners. How is the screen brightness? And what are the CPU/GPU temps under extreme load? For example Prime95/Orthos or heavy gaming after an hour or so.

You'll have to turn off the page file, turn off indexing, turn off retore points, and a few other things and THEN you should be able to re-size C:.

There's a post somewhere recently in the GT725 thread with everything that needs to be turned off or changed. I just left my C: drive on the 725 at c. 40GB, deleted the original D: and broke it up into several smaller partitions myself...

Ya, thanks, already fixed that. No need to do this. The problem was I shrank D and wanted to extend C, but you need to completely delete D, and then extend C.

Yeah, but I figured that you knew about D: already... I backed the contents on mine to a DVD-R with some other stuff, just in case I needed that junk for some reason...

Also, this just turned up in the 725 thread
    https://om.one.microsoft.com/opa/Va...c9dfbad47d0&LocaleCode=en-us&JavaScriptOn=yes
Apparently to get a 64b install disk if you have an OEM copy, for $30...

Wonder what a Windows 7 upgrade is going to cost us, since we won't be getting it for free... (You only qualify for that if you buy a system with Vista starting July 1st...)

    [EDIT]
Hmmm... getting an error with that link on my desktop and FF. Try it fromt he nb later w/IE...

Hey, here's the question for everyone. When you put your hend on the closest left part, where MSI sticker is do you feel the vibration? I do... Is it the fan, te HDD or am I being paranoid? I had the same thing on previous one.

    RayanMX,

What programm did you use to do the overclock?
Can I "damage" my laptop doing it?

    Thanks!

KonstantinDK, yes I do feel some vibration since right underneath resides the hard disk and also right above it it's the Blueray/DVD drive. I don't really pay much attention to that.

Arydoidaum, I use nVidia's System Tools. I don't think you can damage the video card unless you change voltages and go too high. If for some reason you go too high on clocks, the video card will start doing weird things like reset itself, display artifacts, etc. Just step down little by little until you reach your card's optimal OC.

    Regards,
    RayanMX

    Humm...Ok!
But where do I change the shader clock? On mine I can just change memory and core speed.
And also, my ac/dc adapter make some noise, is it normal?

    Thx!

It's right there on the nVidia Control Panel under the "Device Settings" section, you should see Core Clock, Memory Clock and Shader Clock. But first you must select CUSTOM in order for you to be able to move the sliders.

What driver version are you using?

    Cheers!

    Hi,

I have been debating for a month over buying the Asus g50vt-x1 or the MSI GT627.I finally decided to buy the G50vt-x1 mainly because it is more famous in my country. But due to some reason Bestbuy do not accept paying from outside US. I can only buy from amazon. My only choise is the MSI. I thought to ask you people some questions before making my purchase. I will propably purchase tomorrow or after tomorrow.

    1) How reliable is the MSI? I have never heard of this company. I want my laptop to last for more than 3 years. I am in school and my Dad will not buy me another laptop if it fails in 3 years.
    2) Is the case of the MSI sturdy? I am asking this because I have no experience with aluminium case except my dads macbook pro(2007 version). So how is the case compared with the macbook pro casing?
    3) Is the keyboard flex really a problem? I don't bang on the keyboard but don't want something that will give me bad gaming experience? And can it be fixed with the double sided foam tape?
    4) How does it look in real life? In the pictures it look cheap with the grid on the multimedia buttons area.
    5) Does the one at amazon have worldwide warranty? If it have only US warranty.... Can I ship it to them if I get a problem and they ship it to me back? Or I should go and give it to them is person?
    6) There is ont thing bothering me. It is the vent on the right side. I am going to use an external mouse. In summer humidity is very high. I don't want it to sweat my hands. So will it really be an issue? Is the air very hot on the vent? I heard some reviews saying that with the asus vent you can cook your food. I don't want this experience with my laptop.
    7) I see on amazon that it is written " usually ships in 1-2 months. What does this mean? I am referring to 216US version.

sorry for the large number of questions. This is my first laptop. I don't want to have bad experience. My dad is not going to buy me another one in 3 or4 years.

I hope someone answers my questions if not all but some of them atleast.

    Thanks everyone

Ah! There's the catch!!! You must install the Performance Driver. Also make sure you use drive sweeper to do a clean install.

    1) How reliable is the MSI? I have never heard of this company. I want my laptop to last for more than 3 years. I am in school and my Dad will not buy me another laptop if it fails in 3 years.

Answer: MSi seems to be a reliable brand. Kind of like Asus and other ODMs. However, how long will it last pretty much depends on how you take care of it.

    2) Is the case of the MSI sturdy? I am asking this because I have no experience with aluminium case except my dads macbook pro(2007 version). So how is the case compared with the macbook pro casing?

Answer: The case of the MSi GT627 it's very sturdy and it does not creak at all. Even though it has brushed aluminum finish, it does not compare to the all-metal case of the Macbook pros which seems more robust, but it feels great and nicely built. (fingerprint prone).

    3) Is the keyboard flex really a problem? I don't bang on the keyboard but don't want something that will give me bad gaming experience? And can it be fixed with the double sided foam tape?

Answer: At first I thought it wasn't a problem to me, the keyboard flex was minor in my case, but I decided to fix it just to see how good/bad it ended up, but fortunately I liked the end result. Very easy to fix.

    4) How does it look in real life? In the pictures it look cheap with the grid on the multimedia buttons area.

Answer: I don't know why you think pictures make it look cheap, but with all honesty, pictures don't do it justice. Once you lay your eyes on it, you'll love it. I already saw the Asus G50VT on my local BB and in comparison, the G50VT feels and looks cheap and if you haven't noticed, it's heavier and bulkier. Also does not have BlueRay and it only has 512 VRam.

    5) Does the one at amazon have worldwide warranty? If it have only US warranty.... Can I ship it to them if I get a problem and they ship it to me back? Or I should go and give it to them is person?

    Answer: Don't have a clue.

Answer: Amazingly this laptop does not generate that much heat. Or should I say, the heat dissipation or heat sinks are extremely well designed. My previous gaming laptop (an Asus G1S) even with inferior in hardware, generated much more heat. The vent placement on the GT627 might be a bit of a drawback, but in real life use, It doesn't bother me at all and I also use a mouse. I've placed my hand right on the vent while intense gaming and the air comes out warm, not extremely hot.

    7) I see on amazon that it is written " usually ships in 1-2 months. What does this mean? I am referring to 216US version.

    Answer: No idea.

'Usually ship in X' tends to mean that they are out of stock, unless it is 24-48 hours. In this case, 'Usually ships in 1-2 months' means they are out of stock and do not expect a new shipment to arrive until that time interval, a.k.a. Back-order.

So Canada apparently now has the GT627. Some slight changes:

    GT627-617CA
    P9500 (2.53 GHz)
    No bluray
    WSXGA+ (1650x1080)
    500 GB HD
Bilingual keyboard (sigh, I hate those...)

Yeah, and the P9500... Wonder why MSI US was annoying and added BR instead of a better CPU & larger hdd, as you'd've thought that they'd've learned Sony's lesson with the PS3, BR + excessive arrogance = more $$$ = low sales = phail.

I would've likely gone for the 627 if that config was available in the US, especially since I was, basically, already familiar with the size/weight of the chassis... wonder of they'll do something equally stupid for the Canadian GT725 model, but I guess that they don't have as much to tinker with there as MSI only seems to ship P series CPUs, but if they did a T9XXX series, or maybe even a Q9XXX ...

As ridiculous as it sounds: I wish that it comes in Germany with WXGA (1280x800). The 1680x1050 is just too small for my eyes :(
    - and you know: lowering the resolution makes everything unsharp, so that's out of question.

This is a thing which really annoys me. Not a single shop in Germany which sells it with the the lower resolution.

I'm really liking the silver trim instead of the red trim on GT627Q. Is that one only available in Germany? Does anyone know of places that sell that in NA preferably Canada...?

Also someone mentioned the GT627-617CA being sold in Canada... I can't seem to find this in any online stores. Is it just actual retail stores that will carry it?

For those who had the same wifi problem

Mine had trouble connecting to wifi. Usually, the sign says it's connected right away, but it needed like 10 min to actually start working. Don't know why.

Msi drivers didn't help, but new ones from Intel helped.
    Download wifi identification utility

if you notice the keyboard pics, you see that its GT725 - the new model that they have released with silver trims instead of red. And it says its quad core too... that true?

Yeah, those are the wrong pics, but it is the right color scheme. I have been trying to find pics of the new quad core model but i could only find pics of the new GT725 quad core.

But yeah, MSI Germany has released a quad core version of the GT627:

    ("schwarz/silber" means "black/silver")

It's listed at around 1430 euros, about 300 euros more expensive than the P8600 GT627 version.

Lots of online stores carry the GT627-617CA. NCIX, Microinformatique, Lucomputers, 1Click2Computers, OnHop, DirectDial, Swiftgamers all have a model. The price ranges from 1690$-1800$ depending. Note that some stores will charge different taxes(depending where you are living) and some stores will charge different shipping & handling costs if any.

Yeah, i guess it's part of MSI's marketing strategy to only give the quad core versions the black/silver color scheme. But it might be different outside of Germany.
Like with the GX620 for example, which was released in both black/red & black/silver editions in the US (and not in Europe as far as i know).

Here's a video of the black/silver GX620 which has the same chassis as the GT627:

Very nice... well hopefully they will release the 627 like that too....

What are the chances of that though?

Has there finally been any consensus on the 64 bit vista issue? Will both the turbo and scm work in x64? Will the newer version of the SCM utility still work in 64 bit or do you have to revert to the older SCM that has 64 bit support?

There seems to be a lot of speculation and not much in the way of good answers. I really don't like the idea of using 32 bit on a machine I know would benefit from 64 just because of software issues.

Does MSI provide a docking station for the 627? If not what can I use?

I don't believe that MSI makes a docking station for ANY of it's notebook, or IOW I don't ever recall seeing one, but I've never looked. Perhaps you could get one from a 3rd party, although I'm unsure as to exactly why you would want/need a docking station... i.e. what are you planning to do that you think that a docking station might help with? -> it may not even be necessary...

Nope they ship it with Vista on a hidden partition, which it, apparently, installs from. During first boot, you are offered the option to burn backup disks (they provide 2 blank DVD-Rs) of the hidden partition's contents...

Most Windows nbs that I have seen come this way, and have done so for quite some time, although the last one, a Sony that I saw, wanted CD-Rs... wheeee....

(OEM Windows license is probably cheaper w/o actual disks if they just used MS' base OEM disks, or the cost of producing install disks with whatever company's customizations and crapware... MSI is low on the crapware though, and installing ALL of it IS optional...)
