Hmm very strange indeed sod, if you can get a pic of the bsod, or maybe the error? then we could track it slightly easier,
We can rule out ram, i've found mem test to be accurate. Hmm what operating system are you running with? is it possible all drivers are not up to date?
I would say install all drivers from MSI and try to game or run some things that would case BSOD's,

Lets eat this bsod B***h for breakfast.

Hmm, if your up for it, pull out the min pci wifi card, might be half sized intel 5100, also go to device manager and disable all devices associated with the card reader the laptop has,
Its something to do with peripherals i think. -
definately worth a try, i did read somewhere else that the wifi card could be responsible, i did upgrade the driver to the one on the msi site, that didnt help, i will try and disable it first before removeing it and see how that goes, would be nice if it was the culprit, replacements are cheap.
-
Agreed, lets hope we nail this on the head quickly, you've been through weeks of annoyance :/.
-
How is it going ? anything positive ?
-
at the moment im connected to the net via lan cable, wireless card disabled, its been almost 24 hours and so far so good, i hope i havent jinxed it by saying anything !
-
don't worry , catacylsm can remove bad spirits
once it's all sorted , you should Give those idiots a call to let them know what it was for future references.
'tech guys' ......
-
yeah send it some positive juju please
im never calling them again if it is sorted out, i just got my phone bill in the week, i spent £15 calling those dumb f***s, premium rate phone number for support ! just about says it all ........... -
Services wasn't that premium though .. never dealt with any of them so far but always heard bad things about em.
Anyway , keep us posted on things -
Haha, thats great news sod!
Now ring them up and ask for the £15 quid they ow you, and the 60 for a new wifi card.
But i think before we do that, we should:
1)User driverclean to wipe the intel wireless drivers out.
2)Reseat the cards, check connections, check pin connection (If there clean or not.)
3)Choose between MSI or Intel official drivers, but NOT advent, its so outdated.
Possibly check bios configuration power settings, update the mobo and make sure all the matrix junks up to date too! -
£60 ? i thought this was the part : http://search.dell.co.uk/1/2/2088-d...00-802-11-a-g-n-half-height-minicard-kit.html ? there are a couple on ebay for around £14 delivered, that is assuming its the right one ? i will also do my tradition of taking any faulty bit of electronics kit out into the garden with a hammer ...... it does make you feel good
still to early to be sure though, i will give it another two days, if its still trouble free then i will replace and be a happy 7555 owner, at last ! thing is i will then probably sell it and get a GX740 once its released -
i knew it was to good to be true, just had a bsod
so that discounts the wireless card, would removeing it alltogether make a difference if its already disabled ?
its very bloody odd though, i have never had a bsod while playing bfbc2, i have racked up 26 hours gametime on there, it will always do it while say cheking email, opening a new browser window etc.... never when the computer is doing something hardcore like running bfbc2. -
Are you running any network bridges?
I had this problem where eve online would completely BSOD out on me if i was bridged lol. -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
so cat plays eve, nice!
sod do you have any "other" operating systems lying around you can test? I'm gonna say its a driver or software problem first of all...
i was impressed at the lack of crap on the advent, however theres still junk on there to be found, if you have a full version of windows, grab all the 725 drivers from the msi website, nuke your pc and install from there... thats gonna solve prolly 95% of the issues.
theres a slim possibility that your hardware is on the fritz, however irq errors are pretty much software issues.
If you can do this, i think your problems will melt away. -
its was not software, it would bluescreen after even a full format while then trying to install win 7 64bit, it would blue screen with windows 7 32 bit and the basic vista install that the machine comes with.
I have found the problem though !!!! it was a dodgy stick of ram, despite the ram passing a full 8 continuous tests of memtest+ version 4, after it completed pass 8 i took out a stick of ram, had a bsod within 20 minutes, took it out and put the other one in, not had a problem for 48 hours now (thats a record), so memtest is most definately not the be all and end all of memory testing, read around on the web, im not alone in proving that. Anyway thank god for that, problem solved !!!!!!!!!!
hey i used to play eve in the very beginning for a couple of years, i founded AFK corp -
Automatikjack Notebook Evangelist
nice, id love to play it since i still pay the subscription, but the internet here in iraq is beyond terrible.
im still trying to source a new heatsink for my second 4850, but sources seem pretty dead, maybe ill just wait and try and get a gx740 heatsink or maybe something from the new advents.
if i didnt love my msi so much id just grab a ocz whitebook and drop my 4870 in there with another in sli!
as for my card, im seriously tarting to suspect that it is indeed a 4870, ive seen other alienware systems list their 4870s as m98 as well, and as for the device id, theirs is the same as my card. The only thing i see different is a clock speed of 50mhz on the core and 80mhz on the memory. But i think that may be an alienware thing. -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
The 4850 mobile cards say M98, the 4870 mobiles say M98XT. Although ATI dont really use the XT/Pro etc scheme anymore, it does seem to donate how they've binned the cores tested for mobile use.
-
Medion Akoya X7811-another msi clone... very nice indeed with hd5870, maybe ALDI will have them for 500 quid... in 2 years time
-
Sorry for bumping an old thread, but this thread ranks highly for Dixons/Curry's/PC World's offer of a refurbished 8555gx for £699 and i think my tale is important.
ok, my experiences: i ordered an 8555gx from dixons on friday morning (and reading about the 7555 in this thread actually), and found a message on phone to call head office regarding a "security check" which i did first thing saturday morning (apparently i needed to do this due to the high price?). i was told then the laptop was being shipped which i recieve an email telling me delivery date was 2-3 working days. i phoned at least 2 times after this to try and get an exact date for delivery but couldn't, only that i would get an email with date info. this never came.
i get a phone monday afternoon telling me the product is actually out of stock (2 orders were apparently processed at the same time, and the other one was picked up by the courier before mine so i'm sol), and as it's refurbished, i have no chance of getting the product.
i was told tough luck, but hey, i could have up to an £800 pc as an alternative. but because of the high spec of the 8555gx, of course nothing came close. the only thing which was close was a (well over priced as it's a) sony vaio at £1200, which a totally rude vicky-pollard-sounding young woman wasn''t willing to offer me. (so much for like for like.)
i have had at least 5 separate contacts with dixons in this buying process, and still don't have a laptop. it's a shame as they're very competitive on price with amazon, but this was my first dealing with dsg, and after this, i will never buy from dsg ever.
so, alternatives please? -
There are 640's on ebay uk from frosty i think, hes shipping them over, although there could be some problems if the units damaged (But shouldnt be) Thats an option,
As for other laptops in the same price range, not sure yet. -
thanks but won't buy from ebay. got burned once, and never again.
-
Try xoticpc , they ship everywhere.
-
they seem expensive!
-
also with buying from us, shipping and import duty is a killer
-
are these advents still on sale? i can't seem to find them on the currys/pc world site
-
they're all gone now - read my post about 3 posts back
-
If any one is interested I have an Advent 6555 which I may be willing to part with, I think it is actually a higher spec than the 7555X, it is Quad Core with Radeon 4850 and Blue Ray . Machine was bought about 9 months ago but has barely been used and has never left the house. I have recently bought an Alienware M11x which suits my needs better. It comes with the windows 7 upgrade disk from DSG.
Please PM me with an offer if any one is interested -
guys i've just registered to ask a quick question regarding the screen.
someone may have already asked this, but i couldn't find any information on it and you guys seem to know what you're talking about.
since the 7555 is basically a re-branded gt725, a replacement screen for the gt725 should work in the 7555, right? it might just be me, but i find the colours (reds + greens in particular) to be really washed out compared to my monitors/tvs etc. i've tried playing around with the settings (in catalyst control centre) but i can't get it any better. i'm assuming the 725 screen will be better in terms of colour, and the extra resolution won't do any harm. a replacement screen will be <£200, i'm hoping, although i can't find any prices anywhere. i think i'm up to date with drivers etc., but i still think the screen is a disappointment.
what do you think? -
Yeah it will work sav, because its basically a barebone of the 1722 model, it will accept the MSI one and apparently some nice LG pannels out there
.
-
alright thanks catacylsm, i'll see what i can find
-
I think maybe genna, automaticjack or electrosoft will know the model number, but im hazzarding a guess at both names, and whether or not they had the pannel hehe.
-
well if anyone is still here i'm just wondering if it's possible to fit another ati 4850 to my advent in crossfire? i bet it sounds silly but maybe you can do so...
-
No you can't.. There's only one MXM slot.
-
Has anyone managed to install catalyst control centre 10.5 on their 7555GX running win 7 home 64 bit? It crashes for me when analysing my system, showing the "this program has stopped working" message.
-
Desktop or mobility drivers ?
-
The official mobility ones. I didn't realise you could install the desktop ones (well, without using the mobility modder, which I believe is no longer supported).
-
No you can't , i thought you tried to install the desktop counterparts. Anyway , 10.5 should work fine on your machine
