Yeah, MSI, dont go advent, if anything does go wrong, you'l get nothing but more destruction when the machine is slung into the back of a delivery truck ready to get demolished!
-
From MSI to advent
-
I refuse to believe!
Lol, get another MSI. -

Guys, thought I'd bring this up, as you might appreciate it.
Good news! - ATI Mobile monthly OFFICIAL drivers confirmed, 4 series mobility drivers should be starting in March. It seems they'll be rolled into the normal official drivers you download from game.amd.com.
No more need for mobility modder support VERY soon. And as the plan is OPT OUT, if your card is supported but wont let you install the drivers, it's only your OEM to blame.
This has been confirmed as on the charts by legitreviews, anandtech, hardocp and a few others looking at the upcoming 10.2/3 drivers
2/3/4 series cards should be in from the get go ideally, with the 5 series possibly supported from the off or slightly later. -
Nice report Alex!
Always nice to see you wondering into MSI forums haha,
+Rep. -

I still blame the fact everywhere was out of the MSI GT725 for me not having one (I hunted for one in stock for about a month), and ending up spending a lot more! haha
I was very nearly an Advent/MSI owner -
Yeah well, if you have some money stored up in your pocket, you could always be one of the first GX740 Owners
.
There was a review of the GX640 out actually, and it was using a true GDDR5 5850, i was very suprised but it did run hot. -

Plus, after using dual GPU, I think if I WAS to replace, I'd be looking for another dual GPU machine for the grunt and I7 as the cherry on top! Dual 5870m would be rather sweet, plus I have an aftermarket blu-ray drive and an expensive 5.1 setup, so full HDMI output would be on the cards.
Its good news that not all the companies are being idiots and sticking GDDR3 on these GPUs though. -
Haha, it is indeed, Your Kobalt computers specs are actually pretty crazy!
Wonder what the odds of a 5890 mobility are?
256 bus with all the 5870 mobs specs would be nice.
I wouldn't mind a nice SLI machine (Personally i'm pinning all hopes on MSI to release one at one point, because i see that being phenominal!)
But for now, my Advents tiny res + 4850 is giving me the frames i need for every game and i have my nice regza for when i wan't to watch movies or play games in 1080/benchmark due to res restrictions.
Uk sucks for decent priced products though, thats its only problem. -
Whats the difference between the 5870 and 5890? Just different clocks or are they actually different?
-
Desktop or mobility, mobility doesn't exist and i have no clue about the desktop varients.
-
Desktop
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
There is no mobility 5890 at the moment.
The 5870m is about equivalent to a slightly overclocked 5750 desktop card at stock (two of these in crossfire should be about equivalent, if not a bit faster than a 5850,which itself is a bit faster than the desktop GTX285, but obviously has lower power usage and more advanced features).
The desktop 5870 is the flagship desktop single GPU card from AMD right now, the 5970 is 2x 5850s in a single card, which means its still the fastest as long as there is crossfire support.
There are rumours a faster 5890 single core card may come out once Fermi appears, as a response from ATI who have had a few months now to plan thier next month before the 6 series towards the end of the year. -
Amd are indeed doing extremely well, a forum popped up about fermi failing today, i hope not, im a big fan of both.
-
6 series toward the end of the year?
They are really punching the cards out aren't they.
If I was nvidia I would be wetting myself.
ATI has significantly gained ground lately. Is it just me or are more than half (as a rough number) the laptops on sale now shipped with ATI cards? -
Have a look at the steam hardware survey , more pc gamers use Nvidia than ATI by a great margin.
-
Yeah, i used to recall Nvidia everywhere, mainly the high end options for laptops, alot of entertainment end,
If i were nvidia, i'd continue selling what they have, and work with a clean slate on a new GPU with no pressure behind them, they also have this optima? partnership with Nvidia for quick GPU changing which should work quite well,
I'm sure theres rules and stuff about this, but if Nvidia are in that much trouble, they should start releasing hardware for older standard
Mxm 1 gpus, the lot haha.
Currently the only problem with ATI is,
They don't release mobility drivers...
Well now great,
Ati just became perfect.
-
Haha lol. Yeah I am sure a couple of years ago you went into a store that sold laptops and you would have to spot the ATI. Now it seems to be ther other way around :S
I don't really consider them not realeasing mobility drivers as a downside either. Even before mobility modder came out, they were pi$$ easy to mod. -
Oh, yeah without a doubt, the easiest drivers to mod,
Its just strange why they couldnt add the mobility profiles dont you think?
A simple copy and paste then name change would have sufficed? -
Exactly, but I spose if they added our card they would have no excuse for not adding other mobility cards, perhaps ones that the driver itself would not support.
-
Lol true, they are pushing vendors to release OEM drivers now,
But still...
Maybe ATI were looking for a negative about themselves haha. -
Hard to find, so they had to create one lol
-
I'm pretty sure I wont be venturing to the MSI brand againI was just wondering how reliable the Advent 7555 is since its not a well known brand.
Thanks for the responses. I have a 'what should i buy' thread here if anyone can help -
Fair enough. I probably wouldn't go back to a brand for a long time if I had that kind of experience with them.
To their credit though, they have changed a lot over the last year. -
Advent owners, I want to know who you are and if your still around!
-
Does is feel lonely cat?
-
-
Haha, agreed, i'm just waiting to see if i can get peoples 4850 vbios version in the advent release,
But yeah, DSG suck major lol. -
All you have to do is ask
Whenever ur ready man , there's one waiting for you.
-
Ive got the 7555. Cost me £699 from just before xmas. Good job i got it then though as theyve got the 8555 which costs alot more and comes with a 4650/70
Tested 3dmark 01se and scored 29,870 and with 3dmark 06 scored 10,456 at default settings/res
Ive had it hooked up to my tv and have played crysis with everything set to high at 1080 and no lagging/frameskipping at all. So the min fps is at least higher than 25. Start to see lag if settings are upped more though and if aa settings are increase.
Overall im really pleased with it, for the money its an extremely powerfull laptop and a bargain considering how much the GT725 is in the UK (£1300 or so from ebuyer havnt seen it anywhere else) and other gaming laptops. I was looking at the alienware M15x but to kit that out with the nvidia 260 its just shy of £1300 again -
the laptop is back from DSG, it seems fixed although there is no nothing on the note other than "repaired" anyway i thought this time i would install win 7 64, i already have the win 7 32bit upgrade cd sent to me by techguys, i will use the prod key from that so i downloaded the 64 bit ISO file linked to further back in this topic but hwen i try and install it it gets to step 2 installing windows and a window has popped up "select drivers to be installed" and i get an error No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains correct drivers" can anyone help ?
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
See if you can ignore it,also you could try doing a clean rather than upgrade install from the media, it may be trying to use old 32bit drivers from the previous install.
I haven't used a 32bit OS for about 3/4 years though so my experience may be a little out. -
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Try fiddling with the options. I've honestly not tried updating a 32bit OS with a 64bit OS upgrade disc, but have an inkling this may be causing some of your issues. Again, I could be wrong, because it's not something I've tried!
There are guides on the net on how to use the upgrade disc to do a completely fresh install, rather than an upgrade install. Another thing is do you have a RAID setup for your HDDs? Its possible it can't detect a driver for your controller which is why it's asking. It might be asking you to feed it a controller driver so it can work with the HDDs! -
no raid setup, no options to fiddle with other than language etc.... on the first part of setup, i will have read about on tinternet.
*update*
i think the culprit is crap dvd's, seemed ok when i made it on my dell laptop, now neither laptop will read it correctly, i will buy some decent ones tomorrow, mind you these are TDK, will i ever get anything to work properly first time around ? im feeling vicitmised by IT at the moment -
Burn the ISO on low speed to avoid corrupt files.
-
-
ok so it was crap dvd's, bought some sony's all good, you would think that would be it wouldnt you, well this ******* laptop crashed three times installing windows 7, the one that is supposed to be "repaired" i have had a bellyfull of this gimpy pile of s*** i will call DSG tomorrow when i have simmered down a bit, the ******* ******* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Can we attempt to repair it now?
We all know staff at DSG don't know anything about computers...? -
you could but im certain its a hardware problem, it has to be, dsg apparently reseated the ram and tested it afterwards, i know the testing part to be BS, the last time it did a bsod before i sent it back i just closed the lid on it, so there would be just one minidump file, on getting it back i booted it up and lo and behold it went straight to the your system was not shut down correctly, recovering from a serious error black and white screen, i dont think you can get there without a bsod and there was still only one minidump file.
Its going back to them, if they dont fix it this time i will get a refund, its inherently faulty, they dont have leg to stand on. -
Well, there isn't a seal on the bottom is there, go ahead and open it up, take out a bank and try boot up, then swap around,
My machine will be identical to yours, i can guide you through the easy process with a few pictures if you like? -
thats a kind offer but i know my way around a computer, had quite a lot in the past my first was a 386, i just dont see why i should have to troubleshoot this thing myself, its almost brand new, i know they are useless but its the principle of the matter. i have come close to smashing it up though... i have even contemplated takeing a trip to the "techguys" offices and beating one of them to death with it today ................
-
Haha, i know man, but to be fair, forget the useless idiots, its a new computer, it as you say, "Should" be working but it isn't, but its one of the best machines i've ever actually used, and i'm sure you'd feel the same if you finally got it working,
Whatever you choose, i hope it gets sorted promptly.
-
just fought maybe s-one will find it interessting
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MSI-GT729-Ext...tZUK_Computing_Laptops_EH?hash=item1c10a219f7 -
Ehhh wow lol, that price is amazing :S
If its not stolen that machine right there is a complete steal in my oppinion, even to date! -
just need to vent, apologise in advance ..............
techguys have had the laptop all week, guess what they did to "repair" it this time ? thats right they reseated the RAM !!!! FFS!!!!!!!!!!! so after reseating the RAM once and getting the same machine back within a week, thats all they did on the second attempt, what kind of support organisation is it ? im spitting chips here ............. i was informed by one of and i use the term loosely "techs" that it could well fix the problem this time, huh excuse me can you explain that to me then in technical terms ? if it didnt work the first time, it wont work a second.......... its on its way back to me, i know it wont be fixed this time either, i will try and sort it out myself as i cant get a similar machine for the price, if thats fails im getting the credit card people involved, its absolutely unbelievable ................. -
I know but, it totally sucks man
But yeah, they are totally crazy, my machine come back to me with slower ram in as well, it got thrown around in delivery truck (Causing massive light bleed and scratching.)
Discusting service, medion are now doing rebrands of the MSI GX740 though, and medion are an actual professional company...with standards....not selling complete trash. -
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Unfortunately as a whole the techguys are a lot more patchy than many organisations as quite frankly they dont seem to be as demanding on who they hire, at least internally within the shops (and apparently to some extent the framework too). As someone who used to work for the purple shirts, some of them are very good, some of them are pretty poor.
I never joined the TG team as I got fed up of the general attitude and got a better pay rise doing something different elsewhere! -
The good news is, there are alot of people here that will gladly help get the book up and running, even when the situation seems hopeless!
.
-
laptop is back and crashing 2 - 3 times a day still ........ i cant yet face sending it back again for a "repair" so im going to try and sort it out myself, so far i have run winDLG diagnositc from western digital on the hard drive, no problems found, run memtest once, no problem found, i have read its worth running it 3 - 4 times to really rule out the memory ? nothing of note in event viewer, i have now switched off the auto reboot and will make a note of the blue screen errors as they occur.
It is odd though, i played battlefield bad company 2 for a solid 6 hours online yesterday, no crashes. played it for 3 solid hours today, no problems, exited it and checked my email, bam bsod ...........
