Strange how the gs60 is listed with an optical drive where the larger gs stealth has none. Also the gs stealth is listed for the end of march, but will the ETA be the same for europe?

It does not have a optical drive, as for ETA in Europe I have no idea.

The new GS models have the Intel AC-7260 wireless card as stock.

I've been using an AC-7260(from GenTech) since last June when they were first available.

In my experience the card is an excellent performer on the 5ghz band when paired with a good AC router and driver version 16.6.0.8.It can connect at speeds up to 866.7Mbps when nearby the router and in line of sight.

At 15' and going through 2 cement walls I'm mostly at 520Mbps.My inSSIDer signal strength is -42db

The card does very well transferring files across my home network on 5ghz.

The card is a very bad poor performer on the 2.4ghz band with every driver version I've tried

I've used the AC-7260 with the Netgear R6300,Asus 66U and Netgear R7000 which are all high end AC routers.

The AC-3160 that's stock in the new GE models although listed as an AC wireless card has a max of 433Mbps on 5ghz according to Intel.

    Configure your hardware carefully.

If you don't have an AC router or plan to upgrade anytime soon I don't see the point of having AC wifi card to begin with.I've had excellent results with BF Killer cards and if anything I would at least consider the getting the Intel N 6300 which I've also had great results on both bands.

    @IKAS V
This is why I suggested to choose hardware carefully.

    Before I installed the AC-7260 I used a Killer 1103 with the 3rd antenna.

On 5ghz I never budged from 450Mbps on the 5ghz band.

Where the AC-7260 shines over the 1103 is in file transfers on my home network.

When I had a 6300 in my notebook it suffered lags and was slow to connect after waking from sleep.

In regards to downloading from the Internet I see no difference between the AC-7260 and Killer 1103(3x3)

Disappointing.. But may help me decide between the Ghost and Apache..
Don't really NEED a thin notebook, although my shoulders would thank me. Apache Pro might come with a better GPU options for cheaper and run cooler

They will probably do an update when broadwell comes along and I think it will be a long while before we see any ddr4 in laptops (and even longer until they become affordable). I want to see if ddr4 has a dramatic increase to the gpu first and foremost.

Wow, I passed right over it. My bad :(

I'm wondering if the pro comes with something more than just the 3k screen (assuming the price for the base model is right on gentech). The price difference from 1700 to 2200 is quite the monster jump and it says the 3k screen is an option?

They must be working some real magic if they're getting high settings on 3k off an 860m! I'm going to assume the pro is coming with something that has a bit more oomph considering the price increase. I know they have dual fans now but I have a hard time seeing how they're going to make that thermal envelope work with such a thin chassis (and the 870/880m's being kepler rebadges from everything I've seen.

Well, the depth is less than the Gigabyte P35K (0.2 inches less) but it's 0.3 inches wider. What's the point of having a thin-and-light if you have to increase width and depth in order to do it? :)

Well if it's not like they are using a 17.3" case for a 15.6" screen. Personally I don't mind a 0.3 inch increase in width if it means being able to get the best parts and still be thin and light.

Actually it's almost as if they are. They're increasing width and depth far enough beyond a normal 15.6 inch laptop dimensions that you almost need to use a case that will accommodate a 17 inch. Which means you may as well get a frigging 17 inch. :)

Maybe this isn't just a "typo" .: MSI GS60 2PE Ghost Pro Core i7 4700HQ - 16GB - 1TB 7200rpm - GTX 870M - Full HD WVE | S and maybe this guys friend is a legit source!? ...but then we would probably seen something about the 3k there to!?

The non-pro is very expensive for not having a solid state drive.

I'll take a slight increase in depth/width if the cooling system is quieter as a consequence. The P35K is loud based on everything i've read. The weight of the two of them is comparable (the P35K only so if you rip the ODD out.. it's .5lb heavier otherwise.).

It looks like the non-pro does come with a 128GB msata SSD along with the 1GB spinner. Personally I'd drop the spinner and add a 512GB msata instead.

You guys realize what just happened with MSI, pay 2k for what has been rebranded twice and once throttled just because of 3k!!, and the 870, the stove which is better for heating coffee since it will run at 85C with stock paste and bad cooling because again rebranded for the 3rd time and like the 4800 processor upgrade is going to change your gaming experience???and maxwell's best gets no ssds unless you wait another month but if you do wait another month, you end up waiting for the MX since it would be pointless to upgrade in april just to get outdated in June...so what to buy an 860 with 8gbs of ram?? what have we gained?? okay you OCED the heck of the 860 and got just below 680 performance???So it took you 2 years to get a discounted more efficient 680? Am I being illogical here??

The 870M is quite a power upgrade over the 770M so it will run hotter, but no one is making large system changes this "generation" since they already have motherboards in place that are compatible.

You could wait for maxwell yes, but some people can't wait and there is no telling how long you will wait for that.

Now 670MX and up users will likely want to wait but below that then the 870M is going to offer a lot of value.

Meaker my laptop does not even have a gtx card but I am burning with frustration, why am I paying for that 4800 processor I just dont need it I would rather have an ssd or BROM, its the other specs excluding the gpu that are frustrating me...if the dominator (870) had the same set up as gt 60 2oc 128 msata I would buy it but only the gt 70 has that and besides its for 1900:S that used to get you a 780 with a 128 msata:S

Thanks, I think Broadwell is do out in the 3rd quarter? or is it the 4th quarter? I wonder what changes will be made for those besides the Broadwell processor and a new GPU? like you said ddr4 most likely won't be added. I am thinking a updated SSD line, possibly USB 3.1? or Thunderbolt? or most importantly a 4K screen for the 17" GS70?

We offer a step down to the 4700MQ so you have all the options, the 4800 is a very nice CPU for tweakers though.

Well, if the 870m is standard in the pro version, I could understand the price hike. The 3k screen is an option so that wouldn't be listed on the stats as it looks like he was just talking about what came with it.

Seems like a 870m would light the poor thing on fire though. I heard that the 17" model had some throttling happening under maximum load and while it looks as though they improved the cooling system a bit for the new one, there's only so much you can do in such a small chassis.

Hopefully they put the 3k option on the 17" as well with the 870 and magically have no heat issues. I would seriously consider it even if the price did make my eyes bleed (if engadget is to be believed the 15" pro will be rocking 2200 base price and I'd assume the 17" would be more).

The GS60/70 is looking like the must buy for my new laptop to replace my old Vaio SA. We shall see what all comes when they finally get the NDA raised in a few days (it's on the 12th that it's lifted, right?) so we can see just what they're planning to shoe horn in there!
