I used NVinspector ! but first I flashed with new 1V bios modded by Saltius to get higher clocks ! Here we go 460M>>560M

Thanks a lot for the modded bios. Does XMP support really improve performance compared to the original bios?
Just one question: can we game at max frequencies while on battery with this bios? -
-
For your second question, no you cannot. Your video card will stay locked at 'power-saving' frequencies resulting in a massive decrease in performance. It has to be plugged in for maximum performance. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Unless you put in an AMD card and tweak the bios but you have to be careful the battery does not melt.

GUys,
It might be a little bit silly but If I get some HyperX 1866Mhz PnP will it work straight away at this clock or should I still need to flash my bios ? -
it will work at 1866Mhz.

hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Hi i have a MSI MS-16F2 BareBone with 3.05 bios if you could tell me how to back it up so i could sned you the file after if that is the newest version of course. I know i will need a AFU exe file as the bios is AMI APTIO bios which is based on the UEFI spec.
If you'd like a copy of the 3.05 bios fimrware i'd be happy to back it up for you. -
Hey hacktrix, first welcome to NBR
I'd be more the happy to check it out. Use this tool. First hit 'read' then 'backup', upload it and I'll take a look! -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Thank you and thanks for the fast reply your eyes must of been burning.
Will upload the backup for ya ASAP.
Is there a way to say change the logo on the BIOS as seeing Powernotebooks.com logo is a bit ugly so to speak. -
There are tools that allow you to customize the startup screen, but I've never used them.
As I posted a couple pages before, the best I can do is with the unlocked BIOS I enabled 'Quiet Boot', which shows the AMI logo and POST on startup. Feels like my old custom desktop when booting up. Other than that, I haven't bothered trying it because I usually turn on my computer and leave for a minute. Also, everyone probably wants their own custom image. . . impossible to please the whole crowd.
As for the update, it's probably merely CPU microcode patch for the new CPU's i7-2x60's, but I'll take a look anyways. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Here is the backup. Not sure about the size of it is right like but ya sure.
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
I do have the same spec as you in terms of CPU minus the ES and XM bit, GFX is the same.
One question what idle temps and full load temps do you get on the CPU you have as mine hits 83c on full load and 40c on idle, laptop goes into leaf blower mode (Thank God for Gamer Headphones) after hitting 70c.
Forgot Quite Mode is disabled so i have the AMI logo just wondered if the quite mode logo was easy to replace. Was going to SLP mod the bios after warrenty went on my laptop. But whilst i waited thought i'd help out. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Just had a look in AMI BCP V4.50 there is only 3 micro code updates lat being 2011/01/06 size 00002000 .
So unsure what has been changed between 3.00 and 3.05. -
The laptop probably goes into leaf blower mode because of the GPU. The same fan cools both the CPU and GPU, so it triggers if only one of the components hits the 'trip point' where the fan kicks into 'high'.
Why SLP/SLIC mod? We have barebones. . . is there any specific reason?
Just checked the image, lol, could NEVER have guessed it. Different/New CPU microcodes. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
I have a 2720QM sorry my bad. SLP/SLIC is to well use OEM as the barebones come with retail activate limited version of Windows 7.
The GPU hits max 77c on full load so it could be a possible on there.
Is there a option in the bios i wonder to change different fan modes.
Just thought mainly to help with your thread if the bios version of mine was any good like. Also i have found the tool to change the logos as well for AMI APTIO bios's. -
. Well, then yes, SLIC modding might be an option for you then and you realize it voids your warranty
.
There's a couple limited options, I'll post a screenshot for you. Personally, though those temps are great (especially if your CPU is cooler than mine). I'd rather have a louder system than one that overheats! Thanks for participating & helping out! Now you have some green rep.
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Thanks, Warrenty is not void till i put the bios on the laptop,
I will wait till the warrenty expires before modding with SLIC.
Nice one if you could do a post up i'd be grateful. If you want the Logo Changer for AMI APTIO let me know via PM.
True i rather have a cooler CPU GPU, but some times its nice to have both quite and cooling. Using IC Diamond 7 Cart atm on both GPU and CPU.
Personally i perfer 20c's below on full load with any CPU on the TjMax temp. -
Some values have been changed by me. The 'Active Trip Points' is what you are looking for I believe. But, to be honest, I haven't done any solid testing with the thermal controls. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
that is sweet nice one xonar is there any other options that are unlockable ?
I have been SLIC Modding since my first laptop normally no laptop i own goes back under warrenty after my data hits the hard disc normally do repairs myself unless its a mobo job then its grovel to the place where i got it, in this case its cyberpowersystems in the uk.
Which did state the bios was SLIC'd in the first place and that the bios was a bios and not a uefi bios so as far as warrenty i would think it could be like ASUS. -
You'll notice there are new options compared to the old one. Trust me, at least 100+ new options. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Thanks Xonar, I have knowledge on AMI, Award and Phoenix in far as SLIC mods but unlocking i have been worried on the risk of a Full out brick with no sort of recovery option on the bios.
One thing that lets the laptop down in terms of bios is the lack of the EFI shell which is a shame as well as enabling the onboard HD 3000 graphics to which if i understand correct you need a Q Chipset motherboard to do.
Other then that the MSI MS-16F2 is a pretty solid laptop.
BF3 on mine maxed out on Res and settings apart from AA and AF on the 560GTX M put the temps to 83-84c on CPU and GPU 77c thats all i have been playing since its come out LOL. -
There a whole folder in this BIOS dedicated to the iGPU and OC'ing it, believe it or not. It does support it, but OEM's choose not to implement Optimus with high-end cards as it's generally non-reliable and only a headache. The chipset doesn't matter.
You really have to try to brick your laptop completely. You can always blind flash if a flash fails, but as long as it's though DOS you should be relatively safe. I wouldn't upload these files and release them to the public if they were dangerous in any way. You have the same chance of bricking your laptop with a stable modded BIOS as with a regular BIOS update, but your worries echo across thousands: "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
That is true my friend, just that my normal flashing tricks work with SLIC but the thought of bricking it because i Modded the bios structure to unlock features does scare me. Hands up on that. SLIC easy as pie and so far with me 100% success rate with manual modding but unlocking never tried.
If your bios mods was unsafe people would be on here asking for help with debricking LOL hence i can safely say my trust in you is well founded.
Great work so far. How easy is it to take the keyboard off to up my ram from 8GB to 12GB and how hard is it to get the 29xx series i7's and will i need to up my cooling that CPU. GPU i am happy with not even ARMA II has brought it down to its knee's yet.
I wonder if the ICC Overclock for iGPU is in there weather the MSI TDE is also in there? just a thought! -
I think those specific functions (TDE, backlit keyboard, P1 cooling, Turbo, etc) are controlled by the EC, therefore the EC versions are different for those notebooks.
Don't buy an XM, you can't overclock it through the multipliers. I made the mistake thinking I could unlock the option. There exists no option and I can't create one loosely out of thin air.
For the keyboard: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/585651-how-force-16f2-10.html#post7946908
ICC options are unlocked as well, although I don't know about the iGPU, haven't bothered looking too deep because it doesn't matter. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Thanks for that info its Bookmarkerd now. As for making a new option to over clock the XM CPU's i can quite agree with you on that one.
As for the Embedded Controller Firmware does the barebone even have it? if not then ya TDE P1 etc is in there as a safe bet. -
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Just checked it does just did a DSDT ripper on the bios and checked inside the bios it does have a EC as it has SMBUS info in the DSDT.
Lastest bios would be great. But it depends if the reseller has the updated bios's for the MS-16F2's. I personally don't know how the bios updates with resellers work.
I do however believe in the if it ain't broke update it routine, then if it is broke flash it again if you can't do that scream! -
The GT780DX has updated bios but nothing on GT683 yet, not sure if there would be any...
-
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Morning all, hi xonar, Thanks Dragon for that info.
Any updates xonar your end bud? -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Just found out for the MSI MS-16F2 if you can not recover the laptop from a bad flash using the filename AMIBOOT.ROM you can try the file name E16F2IMT.ROM. so thats just a heads up for you all.
Also just found out that Windows 7 i have is infact OEM dam Key checker tool saying its retail i should of looked on the disc at the pkey file its infact a OEM:NONESLP, but it has No activation limits like OEM:SLP but still requires the online activation sequence like retail. Best go over to cyberpower and say sorry.
Hope everyone is ok! -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
Hi all again, Done my own unlocked bios but it seems we only have to change the Root tree of each section to unlock it. Also Xonar you forgot to state that you have to clear the CMOS after each flash for the mod(s) to take effect and show.
Lucky for me i knew someone with the same barebone whom is a mate and we tested on his as the laptop was out of warrenty.
So Xonar if you use the bios file i uploaded the 3.05 which infact has just a new CPU ID on it and just unlock each Root tree and flash and test that way then come back to me with how it worked out. -
The MS-16F2 was the first one I ever unlocked so I just went bananas with it, but I figured it out that, yep, all you need to unlock are the root folders. But, yeah it's microcodes that change in subsequent updates. -
hacktrix2006 Hold My Vodka, I going to kill my GPU
I forgot about the /C switch. LOL will try that later. My Mates laptop is still over here.
Do you want me to make a unlocked 3.05 with just the root folder changes?.
Also the BIOS tells you what the name of the file should be i found out that you can use the name before .305 to recover from a bad flash.
For example by bios shows E16F2IG6.305 if i brick it i should name the bios rom file to E16F2IG6.rom for it to recover that bios file correctly.
Also i have noticed there is a /A which is to do with the OEM but i shell not go into that.
Hi all i have now made the Unlocked BIOS for .305 all i have to do is upload it. It was easy and my friend is now happy he is now on his way to pick his lappy up. But i give it 10 minutes before he comes crying back LOL.
Will upload the file tonight with the whole tool kit I.E MiniDOS etc, i will also upload it with the AMIBIOS.ROM file to that is stock so you can go back to stock version of .305 as well.
If you need a hand with anything give me a shout.
Also did you get any feed back from your reseller about updates bios wise.
/C switch doesn't work as you said. -
Today i tried to flash the MS16F2 board with GT683DX bios and it works without any problem. Use the MS16F2 unlocked bios by Xonar and wow man do you guys have a buttload of options, far greater than the one you unintentionally unlocked for me.
Also the mainboard for GT683DX and MS16F2 are almost identical except 3 things:
-the MS16F2 lacks a port for the display that allow the led on the back of the laptop to function. But the base led works fine, if you can find the little extra boards to plug it in you can have led on barebone too.
-on the front of the board (face the keyboard) theres a line on both say MS16F2. On GT683DX it is version 1.3 while the barebone is 2.0, no clue on what could have been changed or improved.
-tried to flash the embedded controller firmware on the barebone board but it said different name cannot process so for now i cant use the touch panel. Only the power button works. Wonder if that can be changed somehow.
Also its interesting that on the barebone theres an express card slot blocked and MSI could have implemented one but they choose not to. On GT683DX the case doesnt have that slot but the board is identical. -
Shoot, I forgot to tell you that I've been running the 683's since last night (flashed it and completely forgot to update you!). Like I've said from the being, these BIOS are identical, I couldn't find a damn thing different besides the CPU microcodes. The size difference is just 'padding'. Later I learned that the EC is responsible for all the special features (touch buttons, LEDs) (including backlit keyboard so unless there is an update for it I don't think it'll work).
Funny about the expresscard slot, just noticed the rubber stopper.
EDIT: Couple things to note:
The 15.6'' BIOS are pretty much identical (16F2 & 680/683) and are compatible with each other but not with the 17'' (1761 & 780) versions. The MSi splash screen is also cooler than reseller logos in my opinion. My right side USB port NO LONGER worked while using the 683's. I'm not sure what else didn't work, didn't extensively test everything. Because there could be more things that could have been affected, I will keep them as 4 separate files rather than merging them as 2.
The 683 BIOS also has the F3 recovery option which the whitebook doesn't. That's another thing to keep in mind. -
Oh yeah rubber stopper, damn my inadequate english!
Can you have a look at the EC firmware to see if its possible to modify it to work on the MS16F2 board? Much appreciated man -
I don't have any to work around with.
-
my bad!
you can get it from here:
MSI Global ? Notebook - GT683DX
couldnt find any link for the barebone though -
Unfortunately, I think you're going to have to find someone with more knowledge about EC firmware than me
. Not much I can do, sorry man. For barebones I'd have to contact my reseller.

Where is the expresscard slot?
EDIT: Tried flashing the 305 unlocked bios and it has a password and RAID turned off by default so I had to get my backup off my wife's computer as my computer could not boot.
EDIT2: clearing the CMOS got rid of it. -
I have just flashed my GT780Dx-215US to the 30e bios to enable the raid 0option which is working perfect.
I am wanting to stick with the 30e bios and am wondering if anyone has unlocked it to enable xmp? I am running 12gb of ram that is 1600mhz but I need to unlock the XMP so I can actually get the benefit of the slightly faster ram.
Cheers James -
BIOS date: 5/11/2011, still older than v3.00.
@James5 I will update 30e. Done, original & unlocked are in the same folder, enjoy. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Hmz, I think I see pads for it yes, but no cage or actual slot ofc.
