Nice find out mate. So let me get this right the bios from the MSI offical systems work on the barebones ? but only the Right hand USB stops working.

    That is really wierd.

also did the sound work as i have a funny feeling the MSI is using a X-Fi sound card and not a realtek one.

Ok thanks, I tried to open the file but its not playing ball. There is a switch to ignore checks but its not adviseable. As the EC Firmware area controls alot of Sensors for CPU GFX etc there is even more greater chance of a full brick.

    So please go careful.

How is everyone hope all is well.

My friend enabled the Intel Graphics card but he had a black screen issue on booting windows to the Login screen after installing the drivers or the Intel Graphics. So it can be switched on but its not advise able. A 10c increase in idle temps is not good, black screen aren't either. Going to have to fix it tomorrow now for him the daftiest thing you can do with unlocked bioses is to enable things you don't know about.

Yes, this notebook doesn't have Optimus implemented in it, thus you cannot take advantage of the iGPU.

i reverted back to the old mainboard for the ec to work properly and put the barebone cpu heatsink into mine and I no longer need to attach anything onto it to keep the heat down.

@Xonar: can you help me modify that marketing name line we talked earlier from GT680 to GX683UR? Now that I use the MSI GT683(DX) bios file, can you modify that one?

Also i noticed that the i-charger option in the bios is no longer shown, whether that was from modding or stock im not sure.

@Xonar, i know had to pull his CMOS battery lead out to sort him again, then promptly reflashed the Locked down firmware back on to stop him messing.

Xonar have you got the MSI BIOS Logo bud. Bios will do if i need to dump it from that.

Also did you get any luck with the offical MSI bios and the rightside USB in the end ?

Edit: Flashed and looking good just need to redo the Intel Logo no with a black back ground then its sorted! Whoot Whoot.

Now i have some great news, I have managed to update the CPU Microcodes as well and running this new bios rom modded and unlocked.

I have both AHCI and RAID versions with no passwords. Will PM you the links you'll soon see what i mean.

Its not difficult, but you need to be extra careful not to break anything. Also watch the GX660 disassembly video a few time.

Hey Xonar can you make me a bios similar to the last one but without any change to the marketing name? I want to have all the available unlocked options :p

Just flashed the MSI bios on my mates Laptop the unlocked version it boots but windows doesn't complains of ACPI not being there xonar did you get that issue i have his laptop for the next two weeks sorting out the laptop for some serious gaming. I.E OS, tweaks etc and putting a 570GTX M in it as well if he can get that to me ASAP.

Xonar if you did get the same issue how did you resolve it. Thanks in advance

I never got the ACPI issue, but Dragon did.

Mine went without a hitch, but the system just didn't 'feel' right -- I don't know how else to explain it. It's almost like there was micro-stuttering in Windows, but it was so small and barely noticeable (but it really irked me). Like I said earlier, the USB port didn't work and I saw no reason to stay with a BIOS that wasn't working correctly with my system.

Follow the steps I have written on the main page. If for some reason it won't flash, add the /K parameter to the end and it should force flash it. Keep me updated and if it works, please PM me with pictures of as many screens as you can access so I know if I missed anything. Thanks.

Edit: I worked off of 30L, the newest on MSi's website, not the 30h one you linked.

The one on the MSI site is for 'GT660R, For RAID 0 SKU.' but it's listed under the GX660R - that's why I was a little reluctant. Is it still safe?

And just to be sure, you chose the R version, for RAID, yes?

    Thanks !

It just means one has the RAID option and the other doesn't. All you have to do once you flash it is change the SATA mode to AHCI, because it will default to RAID and you won't be able to boot into Windows. I chose the RAID version because there's no point in unlocking the same BIOS twice, when all you need to do is change one setting.

There's way too many options lmao, and Windows finally sees 6.0GB RAM instead of the 5.98GB like before.

How would I go on changing the RAM timings from 7-7-7-20 to 9-9-9-24 (for the 1333 like my RAM supports)

Thanks and pics coming your way soon!

I do not think you can change the timings through the BIOS. I believe XMP is enabled though. I heard you can use Thaiphoon Burner to change the timings through Windows, but I've never used it.

That was the update of 30L:

Xonar thanks for your reply. I also noticed sound stopped working as well. Anyways With the MSI logo on the MS-16F2 Barebone Bios it didn't look so good as the white logos at the bottom made it look crap so i have now gone and sorted that issue with this new picture.

Let me know what you think if its good enough i will put it on the 3.05 bios for ya all.

So xonar, you think it would be better as it is in my last post, Also need others comments as well before hand, lets make it perfect before i bed it into the rom. Or do you think i should do the red version as well with Gold MSI writing and Red beam and then include the logo changer and let them decide.

Do you also want me to include in top coner the Dyan audio logo as well.

Also i have found a nice working Windows Bios flasher now for Aptio 8 bios i will also upload that later as well works on both 64bit and 32bit installs of windows.

Once question for you xonar how did you manage to get your name in the unlocked BIOS for the offical GT683 as i don't know how to do that.

Aptio 8 doesn't exist, you combined the two :p . It's either Aptio (UEFI) or AMIBIOS8 (Legacy). Also, DOS is infinitely many times safer to use than flashing through Windows. AMI | American Megatrends Inc. : BIOS and EFI Firmware

It gets too confusing when you give people the choice. Everyone has a different taste and wants their own image/logo. The main purpose of this thread is the unlocked BIOS, let's not derail it. I wanted the comments section to act as an FAQ for people having issues, questions, requests and general feedback regarding the unlocked BIOS. If someone really wants it changed they can PM you. I don't know how hosting/linking non-public (OEM/ODM) tools will fly with the moderator team.

    You can edit string tables.

I believe Geocake had the same worries. All the RAID BIOS means is under SATA Configuration you will have: IDE, AHCI and RAID. Just make sure to set it back to AHCI. It might have CPU OC'ing options, I don't know, I don't own the notebook. If you want to OC, why don't you use TS?

    Hi,

I have the 1761 barebone and want to try out the unlocked bios. Is it safe to flash it with afuwingui in win7 x64?

Another question: MSI says on their whitebook website that bios for MSI branded laptop is not compatible with barebone models. Is it really so? or they just try to scare ppl off. (I mean I won't hold anyone here responsible for answering yes or no. Just want to know the answer from experienced user here. I'm fine with the current setup and see no reason to flash a gt780dxr bios on my 1761.)

    thanks!

The Bios & EC Firmware are different on some models from the barebone to the branded. The feature buttons and some bios features are not the same. Flashing the branded on the barebone with some models can cause major problems.
