I took the first one (16F2 v. 3.05) on the first post on the thread and tried to flash it as instructed. I got my laptop somehow to boot from USB.

I booted up from USB onto DOS, and put up the required command with correct parameters: afudos bios.rom /P /B /N.

It read the file, FFS Checksums are ok, but then a message pops up: ROM file ROMID is not compatible with existing BIOS ROMID.

What does it mean? Where I'm doing wrong? :D

Try removing the battery and power cable, with BIOS battery wire attached. Then press the power button on your laptop for 30 seconds. It should discharge every capacitor on your laptop and therefore clear some issues. If that doesn't help, do that once again, and after 30 secs pull out the CMOS battery wire for the 5-10 secs, plug it back in, insert battery and power cable. Power up, and try to enter BIOS.

I've read that these laptops are extremely tight when it comes to higher memory speeds... So you might also wanna put your old "stock" RAM's in to your laptop and first boot up with them, and then force RAM clocks to stock level. After that you can insert the 1600MHz's on your laptop and start messing with the settings.

Also, sonsai, did you succesfully flash your laptop with the original afudos method (stated in the first post) or did you add the /x?

Ok so I want some input before I get MSi involved after flashing the modified bios for my gt780 the laptol started up just fine into the new bios. I changed the XMP setting for my ram saved settings and restarted but nothing... The leds on the keyboard light up as well as the power button. But nothing comes up on the monitor. I can hear the fan spinning inside and the hot bar buttons function as well. Anyone have any ideas? Ive tried resetting the cmos via the battery.. Nogo ive tried resetting the EC aswell. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    try to reflash factory bios
    1. Remove any files from your USB that aren't the necessary bootable DOS files.
    2. Pick a ROM you want to flash (doesn't have to be the original).
    3. Rename the .ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM and put it on your flash drive.
    4. Plug in your flash drive in a USB 2.0 slot, NOT 3.0.
    5. As soon as your notebook turns on and nothing is displayed, spam ctrl+home (In my case, the MS-16F2 is ctrl+fn+pgup).
    6. If you see the USB indicator on your flash drive blinking, stop pressing ctrl+home and wait patiently.
    7. You should hear 4 beeps and the BIOS should begin reflashing itself.

to reset motherboard you need to short some jumpers try to find manual of your motherboard
Or try to take battery out and then short battery terminals on the board

Hey mate, I've reupload Xonar's unlocked 1761 Barebone BIOS for ya :)
    1761 unlocked XMP support.zip

    or multiupload:
    Download: 1761_unlocked_XMP_support.zip

p.s. to everyone who's playin with unlocked BIOS and XMP profiles, make sure your RAM Frequency is set to AUTO, do not try set XMP (1/2) profile and then manually change RAM Frequency at BIOS menu's! Maybe it's BIOS bug from MSI Engineers or probably these OC "hidden" parts are incomplete, maybe it's some as unfinished beta-bios in terms of these OCing portions) but after that your notebook cannot start properly (looping start-stop with black screen) even if you are reset CMOS. My own findings here - OC values for CPU / RAM and ICC profiles together are stored in NV RAM part of BIOS which is not affected by pulled Battery off / BIOS reflash or CMOS reset.

You can try my findings if you OC your base CPU clock to for exam. 103MHz and then you wanna try to reflash any proper BIOS version for your machine, that value 103 still remain untouched and your machine is still OC'ed...

    Hope that help someone :)

Edit: Just finished flashing and didn't even need to reset the BIOS, and saving settings works again like a charm! Some drivers had to be reinstalled though, like GPU driver, but nothing that couldn't be done. I've added a point to your reputition, thank you once again!

ive done the MSI bios update on my gx660 non raid version - now it shows 8GB memory instead of 7.98.

I did it because i was hoping to get more out of my kingston SSD which is only working at 160MB/s on AHCI - on my desktop i had it at 270Mb/s

It seems the newer bios didnt do anything to that so im willing to give this unlocked bios a try - if i could only get my hands on one right now - the megaupload links arent working any more... I read that some of the users are getting alot more out of their SSDs with the unlocked gx660 unofficial bios

Yeah... Well, everything else works just fine. BUT! I had the Dolby Home Theater V4 which enchanced my audio experience a LOT, and after the BIOS update it happened to vanish into thin air (my SSD crashed, ONCE again!), and after clean Windows install the Dolby Home Theater cannot be installed. Any alternatives? :D

I wouldn't wanna try and install the "old" newer Medion BIOS as it used to not allow me to save settings, there aren't a lot of new thing unlocked that would benefit me so much... I'd prefer the better sound instead of million options. :D

I don't know if any of you saw my overheating issues with my Force 16f2-12 CPU.

I'm really considering flashing my Bios.
    Would this help?
I see that you can better control fan speeds with the modded Bios. I'm sure that would help a lot since the fan is barely on right now.

    what do you consider overheating?

freshly booted my gt780dxr was at 26c, right now 34c idle. its been idle for 5mins.

my problem is the other way around, the fan wooshes up and down just sitting idle. idk if its spose to do that, but i'd rather it woooshed up quieter, like 100-200rpm at most.

I successfully flashed my Bios, but I'm confused at how to use the fan control.

How do I set it to increase fan speed at idle?
And how to make fans 100% over 75c?

    Edit:
I've adjusted it to trip to 100% at 60 c and doesn't do anything...
Is there something else I have to enable?

Hi all i have just got hands on the MS-16F2 Latest bios update. I will flash it and see how it performs if is well i will be making a Unlocked version.

This also comes with a EC update as well.

@mechrock. I have the same barebone as you do. Those temps i would class as high.

Mine will run happy on 83c for over 5 hours straight on any game including BF3 with GPU never going anymore then 77c when using furmark.

I suggest you Re Thermal Paste your CPU/GPU with new paste IC5 Diamond is great its what i use and my Idle for CPU is 39c and 35c for GPU.
If you do go IC5 its hard to spread which is how its ment to be small pea size on GPU and a fine line from left to right on the CPU. Make sure you put firm pressure when placing the Heatsinks back. As the CPU and GPU heats up it will then spead the paste evenly. Temps for the first 2-3 days will be like the old paste then after that it will run cooler.

Also make sure after a re-paste you do burn in sessions for 2 hours then switch the laptop off for 1 hour. This is how i got it to work quicker!!!!

@mechrock again. The fan speed is infact based on the GPU so setting the trip point for CPU is not going to work. To date there is no software that will manually do it either. My next suggestion would be for the time being to use ThrottleStop or turn Turbo Boast off for now in the Bios that will ensure it will not get too hot too quick!

I re-pasted both with AS5 the other day. GPU only a little improvement so far, but it hasn't broken in. CPU had a huge improvement. I think cpu only got to 80c the other day when playing. I did the cpu first.

Great, Well good news for MS-16F2 users. Flashed the EC and BIOS update all is working and will now start unlocking the bios.

Once done it will have both files with a single .bat file with the two flashing tools running one after the other.

When you boot the first time after it will power down almost instantly don't panic it is ment to do this.

If you have a unlock request feel free to PM me i had a great teacher Xonar. All my mods for barebone Laptops will have MSI custom branding logo on it which i did post in this thread.

@Machrock What is the GTX570M like performance wise in BF3 as i have a GTX560M and if there is a big difference might get the GTx570M
