    Just had one question:

Will the unlocked bios for 16F2 also unlock the manual fan control like the GX660R unlocked bios did it?

I dont know if it does make much difference but willing to ask.

    cheers

I had issues running the 683 BIOS on my 16F2, that's why they are split. If you want the unlocked BIOS, then use the 1761 one I have posted. Rob pretty much nailed it. Although, it seems that the first-gen i7 notebooks are able use either without problems, not so much 2nd-gen i7.

THRM controls are unlocked; it is not manual fan control. You can change the 'trip' points where the fan kicks into low speed and high speed. They are all (at least should be) completely unlocked.

Does it mean a manual control through HWinfo for example according to the GPU temps ? say at 75°C GPU I want to kick the fan into high speed - for the moment I heard the fan were automatically controlled by CPU temp

No, the EC is responsible for fan control. I don't know what determines exactly when the fans kick in, but you could always trying messing with the trip points to see if you find anything, if you're up for it.

Xonar you are right about the EC, basically you need to set the temp trip points and it will adjust the speed of the fan.

Best bet it to set the CPU trip points down low like me and that way the fan will kick up before the GPU gets hot. thats how i hve set it up on the MS-16F2 of my mates. It works wonders but there is a down side to it.

The down side is that it will be louder then normal and battery life takes a slight hammering too. Best bet is really to get a Notebook cooler. I use it on my MS-16F2 and my temps on furmark doesn't hit more then 77c and that is 10c hotter then any game will get the GPU to reach during normal game play.

Does anybody taken the unlocked Bios noticed differences to the Original one?

    Mean not the options

In my case two things changed extremly after Updating:

    1. my WLAN connection is better than ever (got 3of5 bars before now full 5 everytime @ home)

    2. my Battery has much more reserves (got 1 Hour before now 90 Minutes of Office work and surfing)

    Anyone else such things?

Hello Xonar, would it be possible to unlock the GX640 bios?

I tried backing up my bios with the backup tool you provided, but unfortunately the program crashes on my system.
(possibly conflicts due to me running a Win7 Japanese and the bios extractor being written in simplified Chinese?)

So instead I tried dumping the BIOS rom from DOS and this is the file I got.

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Not really sure this will suffice, hoping it would :)
Thanks in advance for the efforts.

    @Xonar
Hello. I have question for you. Are you able to unlock memory multiplier in ms-16f1 - msi GX660 for 1600 MHz . I know that there is option in bios to change memory frequency but after setting at 1600 MHz it is only 1333 MHz. BTW hidden options we can unlock by pressing special configurations of keys on keyboard but there is problem with 1600 MHz, also on your unlocked bios issue exist. Please give replay. Best regards.

Hmmm so why ther is an option 1600 MHz in BIOS ;). When we overclock via bus from 133MHz and up we get more MHz on DDR3. For sure you right that i7 920xm doesn`t support officialy more tahan 1333 MHz but for example desktops CPU`s - i7 720 support 1600MHz via changing multiplier. I think there is option to run 1600 MHz on 1st i7 core processors on MSI 16F1.

Hello, I just flashed the bios without any problem, and now I would like to make changes in the bios (why not to activate optimus technology ? or decrease the fan speed).

But as I'm french I don't understand all the words. Could someone explain the most important options and the changes I can do ?

    Thank you

Decrese the fan speed = shorter life of GPU,CPU . In my opinion bad idea.

    hello

after successfully flashed the unlocked bios, i play around with settings . . .and that ended up badly.

-black blank screen with no activity whatsoever from the screen-

all the led activity seems OK, hence i try to force flash (ctrl+fn+pg up) but no result.

now i want to unplug the bios batteries in order to reset it.
can you show me where exactly the bios battery located

my laptop brand is Forsa, a local one which used the MS-16F2 BAREBONE
terribly sorry for the pic [i don't know how to make spoiler] and the bad english.
    thank you

Next to the fan you can see connector red and black cable. Take off and do an shorcuit of 2 pins in that connector. After plug in cable to connector and be happy. Probably you wantet to overclock memory modules to 1600MHz :). With elixir modules you can forget about overclocking.

I dont think you need to short the two pins, I think removing the battery and waiting 5 seconds will work.

    hi Meaker,
i only know how to reset the bios based on my desktop motherboard via short some pins or removing the battery but i don't see any battery on 16F2 and i don't know what pins to shorted. After majster msi told me then i'm sure which the pins are.

can you point me where's the battery located ?

The battery is connected to that 2 pin connector with the black and red wires, it's stuck on the other side of the PCB with tape :D

So you are unplugging the battery by removing that.

I have Medion Erazer X6817. My BIOS freezes up when trying to save settings. Only force shutdown helps, but settings aren't saved. I've reseted the CMOS and emptied the capacitors, but with no luck of saving the settings.

This leads to a problem; I cannot change the boot order (on every boot I must alter the first boot device to boot up into Windows) and the second issue; I can't boot from USB as legacy USB support is off by default.

I have the BIOS version "E16F2IM7 V5.09" dated 10/20/10 (as told by Everest Ultimate edition). The BIOS is obviously an AMI BIOS, but what I'd like to know is can an update of the either unlocked (preferred) or default BIOS allow me to save the altered BIOS settings without freeze issue? Also, the ability to boot off USB pen drive would be neat again.

So, is it safe to try and flash the "MS-16F2 BAREBONE (+rep Hacktrix2006 for his help!)

v3.05 Unlocked: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=4RNBXMWY" BIOS on my lappie or not? As I can't boot up from the USB currently, can I flash the BIOS from a CD for example? Any details on how to? Anything else I might be aware of?

Thanks in advance, this seems to be the most helpful forum ever!

EDIT: the current BIOS in my laptop is dated 08/15/2011, stated by CPU-Z 1.59. And there was one more thing to mention I just remembered but managed to vanish it out of my head...!

EDIT 2: oh yeah, I've made a backup of my current BIOS with the Universal BIOS backup tool which was mentioned in this thread.

    GT780X bios - 30e
I have had a look at the GT780dx/r bios in regards to seeing if a larger ac adaptor would help benefit the laptop from the current 180watt adaptor to say using a 230watt adaptor for those whom like to overclock GPU etc...
I have located the string in the bios and the max option setting is 90w a/c brick what I am asking is there anyway to increase this? can I modify the string to allow this to be increased? anyone tried? I want to increase it 115w option

Hm very very interesting, so yours is set to 90W AC, I assume mine would be either set to 90W or rather 75W as it came with the GTX460M lower TDP..

Can you send me your AMIBCP ? Can't find it on google...

    @Heatagramm
Not sure flashing the bios mentioned early in this thread will actually help as they are older than the one you've got...but upload your bios and let Xonar have a look at it because If I'm right your MS16F2 came with the 570M so maybe the bios has changed somehow to accomodate it (especially the power enveloppe)

Just had a look at your bios xonars unlocked one and it' set @ 90w ac, would appear we some how need to modify the string to increase it to 115w/120w for a 230/240watt ac adaptor

Here is the file link for you to check: Medion Erazer X6817 BIOS

Can you check this bios out, Xonar?

By the way, I've got i7 2670QM, 16 GB of 1333 MHz ram and a 1.5 GB GTX560M, not a 570M... If it matters any.

I wouldn't mind if the BIOS would be older than the current one, because the most important settings are now disabled (USB boot and boot order).

OK, so is the only possibility for me to flash via CD-rom, as I can't boot off USB?

How to do it? I've lost my track on these things as the last BIOS mod I've done was back in the days when I modded my Powercolor Radeon X800 Pro to XT... :D

So every detailed info is great, as I wouldn't want to spend 150 euros to repair the laptop.

According to Rob there was a new motherboard revision for the 570M and 580M notebooks, while the 460M and 560M ones are limited to those cards and their factory specified power limits.

You have a 16F2, use the 16F2 BIOS, not 683.
