Comprehensive MSi unlocked BIOS with XMP support thread

Hi Folks,

@hacktrix2006 - For some reason your newest BIOS does not include microcode updates and actually seems to have put my CPU back to its original microcode (1A). Also, my GPU seems to be unable to be OC. Is there something going on with this BIOS?

 

which bios version did you have before. As for GPU i have never been able to O/C my GTX560 with after burner.

Did your bios come with a modded bios when your purchased it ?

Did you even back up your old bios before hand!

 

@5482741 just read your post i found that but that is just Power limits and States.

Have you tried to disable Turbo mode? then change the ratio.

 

It seems disabling turbo mode also removes the options to change the the power limit.

What's odd, is that even with turbo disabled, the multiplier still jumps up 34x for single cores and 31x for all cores.

But it also seems some members have flashed this and the microcodes are reverted back which is really strange.

How is the performance ? Is it the same, worse or improved

Right i have downloaded the bios from the MSI branded Laptop of this barebone and now have the 1B micro update inserted into the MS-16F2 Bios will start from scratch for Unlocking the bios again.

I will then post the new links again EC update is not really required if you have flashed it. Also sparker your EC you said was 4.23 which means you have a MSI Branded laptop as that is the only laptop that has 4.23 EC if not how did you flash the EC firmware of the MSI branded laptop to the barebone.

 

@Hacktrix2006 - I have it all backed up, so no biggie. I reverted to the older Xonar version (I did start on stock) and the OC ability has come back and microcode has been updated to '*12', or '12*' (cant remember the version no's of BIOS or microcode exactly, as I'm at work). These two things are the only thing that I am definitely noticing (and I like the MSI splash instead of the PowerNotebooks flash!), but anecdotally, the laptop is running hotter.

Which version was you running. If it was 3.05 that was me and xonar if it was then 3.0 or something else send me a cpy. can use it as a base

 

I believe that it was you and Xonar's 3.05 that I have currently installed, but was not downloaded from the 'official' links since all the MegaUpload links were killed. It is this exact version:

Right ok well i have nicked the CPU microcodes from it and placed it in the new BIOS which i am currently unlocking at this moment in time again.

I will then Make a New Thread and Make official links in the new Thread.

What are these microcodes everyone is talking about? Does it hurt anything? I don't OC my CPU so I'm not sure if it even matters for me.

My GPU oc's just fine with the new BIOS.

 

No microcodes don't hurt at all. Microcodes can improve performance of the CPU or remove bugs.

M11KKKG if you could send me links to your bios i will happly unlock it for you when i have some free time tomorrow!

not sure they will work @ 1600mhz, majster_msi has them but can only run them at 1333 with lower timings..

 

Some CORSAIR Vengeance ram doesn't have the xmp profiles in the SPD.

You can add it yourself, otherwise it wont run at 1600 or 1866:

Yep, majster_msi who mastered the gx660 (haha) couldnt run his 1600 hyperx at 1600 i believe as he's running them only at 1333 C7

 

If anyone wants to unlock their bios in the future on their own, I believe the technique is very simple for these MSI models.

All you need is AMIBCP version 4.53, obtainable here:
UPDATE 14 JAN: CLEVO P170HM3 (incl. Aptio MMTOOL 4.5 & AMIBCP 4.53)

Open your bios with AMIBCP, find the option you want to unlock. Change the "access/use" for that option to "user".

Save the bios and flash.

These MSI notebooks work well with that version of AMIBCP, a lot of the time with other notebooks AMIBCP will corrupt the bios. Other times it wont be able to unlock options because they are in locked chapters (very difficult to unlock a whole chapter).

These MSI notebooks don't run into either of those two problems, so modding is easy.

That sounds like what's happening with the CPU Information menu. With the options unlocked it seems like none of them affect anything. I even preset all of the values I wanted to change, but it seems it did nothing.

I have a MSI 1761 barebones (xoiticpc force), non-raid (I think..i don't have a raid), it says the original bios is E1761IG6.30H, and 2670QM cpu and 570m), and I wanted to ask if someone could post the latest Bios for the barebones unlocked (and the original for backup). I tried reading all of the posts, but Idon't want to brick anything, so any instructions or flashing tools would be appreciated. I have no problems ever flashing my desktop, but...laptop is...:/)

Yeah I saw that. I was just asking if someone could upload the latest 1761 barebone version or even an unlocked version (mine is 30H). The last one uploaded was .306, which is months older....(i'm not even sure how to dump the original bios...)

 

Generaly unlocking with AMIBCP version 4.53 is very easy but making working multiplier for memory @ 1600 MHz is realy hard 4 me . It need some changes in bios code not only unlocking . I am resolvig that problem since 2 weeks and also I want unlock charging option in usb port for example for my razer mamba mouse.
I think there is possibility to run memory on 16f1 @ 1600 MHz but probably I need some help from msi HQ, but unfortunately they won`t help. So I am searching peoples with hex edit skills for help .

@majster msi AMI BCP for Aptio is different then that shown on that site. There should be 1600 Ram speed already, I have that option with the 30p bios i unlocked give it a check.

 

But option 1600 MHz will run memory @ 1333MHz .

On site is other - older ver of utility but principle of operation is the same.

1600 MHz - hardware limitation by CPU in core i7. For core i5 and i7-620 ,640 it is only 1066 MHz.

 

Hi, I can see you've gone a long way since the first post from Xonar. I appreciate that.

I installed my default BIOS back to the lappie as I wanted that oh so great Dolby Home Theater v4 back on, as it really enchanced my laptop default speakers. Normally I rely on my 5.1 speakers but if I'm off home then it's nice to have at least mediocre sound. Therefore I'm wondering, could you people modify, or like merge the options from my Medion BIOS onto an unlocked version? Or could I install an MSI equivalent of DHTv4 if I flash the unlocked BIOS? I know that with the Xonar unlocked 16F2 3.05 I can't install DHTv4 from Medion. I have the default Medion handy here, if you, Hacktrix, would be willing to at least tell your opinion.

I would check this matter out myself (with the mod tool ) but I really don't have the time. :S


EDIT: Here is the Medion X6817 factory BIOS. BTW, it has corrupted boot option, which means, if you press to manually choose first boot device, it shows like 5 or more times the BD-drive etc... Therefore it'd be best to have the ability to install Dolby Home Theater v4 on to the machine.

 

Hi heart can you upload the file to mediafire please. I also need to make sure you understand that me modifying the bios for you will result that any damage etc will result that you agree that you will not flame me or pursue me for damage etc.

Please also make sure the bios was backed up without any Windows 7 SLIC mods as well.

Once my OS is reinstalled on the new drive i will after all the software etc unlock the bios for you!

I"m interested also in flashing the bios, as I have bought XMP memory ((2xKingston XMP HyperX 8GB SODIMM DDR3 KHX1600C9S3K2/8GX)) which of course the CPU clocked down to 1333 mhz. I would like to utilize the RAM if not to run at 1600mhz or maybe to tighten the timings....

Machine is (msi gt780dxr (433nl) (signature)

Anyone flashed the unlocked bios 30e so far around here? any opinions?
