Thank you, I did the flash and it's all normal, it remains only to better understand the new bios it has many options.

Can anyone upload the GX740/MS-1727 unlocked BIOS from Xonar please!?
The megaupload links don't work anymore. -
great to hear, enjoy

hi UltraGSM im reading your post from the other thread,
i bought vertex 4 128gig for my gx660 and i need to flash bios.
i want to try the bios you posted but the guide in this thread(page1) it seems that i need 3 file, unlike what you uploaded it contains only the 30L
im very lost here T_T
if you have time can you give me some links that may guide me to flashing my bios, i really want to maximize my ssd
thanks in advance
EDIT:
nvm i saw the guide in MSI site, it was on a pdf thats why its hard to google hahahhaha
anyway advance Thanks Ultragsm for the BIOS i will flash it later -
You are very welcom buddy, most important is after you flash your bios with my unlocked bios version, you go in to [SATA Settings] page and adjust settings for the port your SSD is installed to, change settings for Port Multiplier - ON , and HotPlug - ON, after rebooting you will see your SSD shown and readable fully workable. Sadly GX660R has only sata3 controller so even my 256GB vertex4 maxed out at ~269MB/s Read/Write... maybe one crazy day I will go for RAID0 ... just for a crack of doubling the speed on this machine
-
i just flashed my bios haha
i didnt have to re-install windows and my secondary drive works perfectly
ultragsm thanks a lot!
but i have some questions
Raid is better than AHCI right?
RAID0 is like combining physical HDD or SDD to 1 or more virtual HD right?
is it advisable for 1 SSD and HDD to use RAID0? -
RAID0 setup consists capacity of two drives combined, secondary drive capacity trimmed to smallest drive capacity, data is split and merged troughout the drives physically so if one of the drives in setup fails all data is gone/lost. It is always strongly adviceable to use two or more identical specifications and performance drives for RAID0 setup, however you are allowed to mix the variety but the performance and capacity will be trimmed down lo smallest capacity and slowest drive in setup. So in other words if you want SSD RAID setup, get secondary identical SSD, if you want HDD setup RAID, get another identical HDD drive, or at least same in size and RPM specs. You cant select RAID0 and install windows then switch to ACHI/IDE . ACHI is for standalone HDD setup, where RAID0 will make a Storage unit as 1 combined in speed and capacity, where two separate data channels will be used as one, but speed will increase by 100% because of read/write/and RAW performance would be doubled by using secondary identical drive same as primary for RAID0.
Hope you get it -
yes thanks
so if don't want to combine my drives it more advisable to use AHCI than RAID? -
RAID always combine all available selected drives to 1 unit, so ye if you want your drives operate individually you use achi

Hi UltraGSM, was using the bios and after handling some items of the setup, my note did not boot anymore. I tried resetting the bios battery and nothing happens, also I tried to rewrite the bios but I can not. If you can help me I would be very grateful. GT660 ...
-
sorry to hear that, its weird but what options have you modified in exact so it stopped booting??
Have you had your TURBO FAN ON while browsing BIOS? as CPU runs in its full TDP and TDC at its FULL POTENTIAL so it heats up in no time, if that happened you may have killed your CPU chip as its temperature monitoring is disabled during BIOS MENU time... another thing, CPU may have not died just yet, it may have just got too hot and wont boot now until its temperature dropped to below 100-90' C, just because its too hot and now CPU needs to cool down big time. If you find its crazy hot, dont try to re-power on and use it if it did powered on, let it get just your hand cold so you can have some temperature headroom for getting in to your BIOS and running trough some settings even with turbo fan on.
Alternatively you can also try other CPU if you have one handy, which will be stone cold by now and by removing heatsink of CPU you can cool it down very easily just by hair-dryer on cold position full throttle etc. same applies cooling off while current hot CPU is installed and sitting hot if it is still hot.
also, try this BIOS reset frequency:- Unplug your laptop from power cable
- Remove your laptop battery
- Remove back lid of your laptop
- Remove BIOS/CMOS battery from motherboard
- Press laptop Power-ON button continuously for approx 10 seconds
- take small tweezers and grab gently the BIOS/CMOS battery terminals together and while holding them together press Power-ON button on the laptop continuously for approx 10-15seconds
- Remove the shorting from BIOS/CMOS battery
- Leave laptop alone with everything you took out for approx 5-10mins
- Put back BIOS/CMOS battery back to motherboard
- Install back cover of the laptop
- Insert Laptop battery
- Plug In power cable
- Try Power-On your laptop
- (while powering on make sure have your Turbo Fan-ON just in case)
- *** VERY UNLIKELY BUT I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD EXPERIENCE WITH LAPTOPS NOT BOOTING BECAUSE EMPTY/LOW VOLTAGE BIOS/CMOS BATTERY, TAKE TESTER AND SEE IF IT STILL SHOWS +-4.5V - 5V ***

The procedures that you gave me did not work, so I think that flash new bios solves this complicated but because the screen does not come to light and the procedure for recovery with USB I am also not able to do.
I followed the tutorial on this topic recovery so that the original bios file is not. ROM.
The file and E16F1MS.30L. In the tutorial commands to rename AMIBOOT.ROM.
If you have another procedure that you can pass me I thank you. -
Can you tell me which options have you chose so it prevented your PC from booting?
Did you use USB Floppy disk drive or just USB stick for recovery? You will more likely need USB Floppy disk drive and rename your desired BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM , then when started your PC with the USB floppy drive, and floppy disc with corresponding file saved inside, you will need hit [CTRL] + [HOME] buttons to force bios recovery process, or alternatively may need to wait up to 5 minutes for process to start up.
If you fail during these steps you can get your BIOS chip re-soldered, there is seller on ebay sells pre-programmed BIOS chips for GX660 GT660 series MSI laptops for approx 20usd incl delivery to Europe which aint too bad, and then you need to re-solder bios chip, remove old and install new, (recommended using hot air flow station or carry your laptop to best pc-specialist in town and ask them to do it , make sure they at least gona use hot airflow or IrDA station for this work.)
PS: Your PC is still easily repairable, dont feel disappointed its just temporary "coma", if you were in Ireland I could do the recovery or bios replacement for you. Otherwise you could do courier post and I can still do if you get desperate and no way of doing it around your place.
Cheers
PS #2:
*** VERY UNLIKELY BUT I HAVE PERSONALLY HAD EXPERIENCE WITH LAPTOPS NOT BOOTING BECAUSE EMPTY/LOW VOLTAGE BIOS/CMOS BATTERY, TAKE TESTER AND SEE IF IT STILL SHOWS +-4.5V - 5V ***
did you checked your bios battery after?
also try remove all items again as before , flip your bios battery upside-down and try power up your laptop several times with power cable plugged in, then remove everything again and reinsert bios battery correctly again.''

I use usb stick.
I also rename the file extension?
On the keyboard there are two CTRL keys, a key 7/HOME and other PgUp / HOME, what combination should I use?
There is a maximum size for the USB Stick or really only works with USB Floppy?
Thank you for your attention ... -
yes truth about that file size is a problem, then you should make sure your USB stick is made as USB floppy boot drive, not just bios boot drive, then YES RENAME extension of file as well, and make sure num-lock is not enabled and use numpad 7 it will stand as HOME button alone when numpad is disabled.
Since I cant alter numlock state for boot , even if I saved set numlock as always on, it still stays off, so assume its off and you can use left or right CTRL + HOME (numpad7) , or wait over 5 minutes and watch the screen, you should also hear 4 beeps after bios recovery completed
let me know how did it all go.
In worst scenario here is the link where you can get yourself a fresh BIOS chip from ebay, also you can ask seller to pre-program it with your desired bios version.

Hello good
PLEASE someone would spend THE LINK WITH THE MSIGT683DXR UNLOCKED BIOS?
MANY thanks and greetings -
Can you please re-post a new-valid link?
I assume this will work on a GT60-0NC004US, since it's the same file name as what shows on MSI website. -
Is there a new GT683-DXR Bios by any chance?

One could easily be made if there isn't already a link available.

You can get it from Techinferno, but you need a account, and 5 valid forum posts before you can download it.

Hi every one !
Please tell me, I would like to be sure this bios is fully operational with my MSI GX660-607 (core i5 460m) ? It seem to be.
Could you please confirm me that I need to use the DOS way on msi website to flash it ? Window .bat doesn't work on my 7 64 bit.
Thank you. -
Hello everyone,
@UltraGSM i dont know but i'm just asking are you still taking request about bios unlocking?
Because i have a GTX740 bios MSI Global â Download Center
And the SSD drive is not detected in AHCI mode.
Thank you for even consider it -
I know this isn't an active thread anymore.
But, I'd like to ask a question (maybe some of you find same error with me)
I already have the MS 1761 unlocked BIOS for my whitebook(by XONAR.. Thanks bro!)
But right after the update.bat, I got "rom file romid is not compatible with existing bios romid"
Did anyone ever encounter the same problem?
After some Googling, I got some suggestion to add /x parameter to bypass ROM id checking (found from subforum for other type of laptop)
Is it safe?
Thanks in advance for your replies

Hi. Is there an unlock bios for Msi GE 70?
Fingered from my Galaxy Nexus -
UltraGSM my fellow Irishman, I wonder can you help me ... I have made a mistake updating a bios in the past and had to buy a chip and do and chip hotswap to fix the mobo. I do not want to risk such and venture again espically on such an expensive laptop.
I have a MSI GX660R-060 that I imported from the states a few years back. It is in raid mode and also encrypted with truecrypt. Has the i7-740QM and HD5870 card.

I play a game for some years now and it supports only a single core and I have had bad performance (headshots) in that game on this laptop only. I tired everything but I want to see if disabeling Hyperthreading solves the problem as I understand the game is cpu intensive and the other computer had higher core speeds and less cores or no hyperthreading overall. Please can you ensure I am recieving the proper unlocked BIOS and advise the correct and safest method for updating it.
I also felt cheated when the memory did not run at 1333 as advertised.
Also can I assume the raid will operate as default setup and boot or will I need to record setting to recreate a bootable raid.
Thanks greatly for your effort, time and help.
[edit]
I have went ahead and applied the update using the instructions here : -
http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/How_to_make_a_bootable_flash_disk_and_to_flash_BIOS_en.pdf
Used an 8Gb FAT32 Flash drive and replaced E16F1IMS.30L with yours.
Works perfect including encryped raid without modification other than loading optimized defaults... Thank you ... I have some testing to do ...
Take care and again many thanks for this file

Ummmm when I goto Advanced > CPU Performance and disable Hyperthreading and load windows there are still 8 threads :/ ... also no simple setting for changing ram speed from 1066 to 1333, I see 3 possible settings mentioning speeds under northbridge settings but I do not understand the catogeries :/ ...
[edit]
Seems the hyperthreading setting is applied when other cpu setting are applied such as disabling and enabeling speedstep ...
