Ah i see. Definately worth the extra dollars then. I keep returning to that page, everytime i look at it i want to add to cart.

gtx 560 is it a 128 bit 192 core? or an oced gtx 470m? i hope the latter it will give tremendous value

According to notebookcheck.net, the 560m is a 192 bit core...

Tutorial: What is the Thermal Design Power (TDP)? - Geeks3D.com
However, I'm confused by this. Another laptop I was looking at - Sager 8130 (P151HM) - comes with Nvidia 460M GPU and Sandy Bridge CPU and is powered by a 120W adapter :S... The TDP of 460M is around 72.5 Watts... -

I heard that their barebone unit was discontinued, do you know anything about this?
I thought the ms-16f1 was released in china. -

Justin of Xotic made this post a while back. I'm assuming GenTech has the same issue.
-

TDP is usually 20% - 30% lower than the CPU maximum power dissipation. ( here)

Thanks cheers once it is available i shall buy it from you also this gives me time to sell my other 2 machines off to reduce the cost of buying my new machine

"The TDP is typically not the most power the chip could ever draw, such as by a power virus, but rather the maximum power that it would draw when running "real applications". This ensures the computer will be able to handle essentially all applications without exceeding its thermal envelope, or requiring a cooling system for the maximum theoretical power "
TDP gives a fairly good idea of the maximum power used by the item under use by real applications and even gaming. Maybe if it is affected by a virus or some anomaly (perhaps furmark?), it can exceed the TDP but those shouldn't be considered in normal use.
The other issue - You and Genna are trying to add up the watts of CPU and Gpu and saying the adapter is underrated. I gave the example of Sager 8130 where I added the TDP of Cpu and Gpu and got the rating of the adapter (120 Watts). There must be something else the manufacturers consider when sizing the adapter rating (I also do not know). -
"Datasheets normally contain the thermal design power (TDP), which is the maximum amount of power the cooling system in a computer is required to dissipate. Both Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have defined TDP as the maximum power consumption for thermally significant periods running worst-case non-synthetic workloads."
Please see my previous post also. -
@ blacklight186
... and why didn't you quote the next sentence?
"Thus, TDP is not the actual maximum power of the processor."
but, anyhow ... this is off this topic -

Hi i see the new models are up but i have gone ahead and decided on a new kobalt laptop cheers.
Sorry for being slightly off topic cheers have a nice day. -
Yay it's back up! Any news on a barebone?
-
-
Take it, get rid of that crappy video, insert the Real Killer (6970), have fun -
Well that blows, how much is it the barebone?
-
I remember seeing the barebone for around $780...dont remember where though
-
Is there a run down on the upgrades that were made with this new model?
-
Well if said, 6970 does truly fit in this monster, how much does the 6970 run for?
-
Guys, I doubt this laptop will be able to handle the 6970M... Is the 150W PSU sufficient?
6970M is currently offered on Sager models 8150 and 8170 which have 180W and 220W PSU's respectively... -
Also MSI change the specs for GT780R, it's now 16GB of RAM instead of 12GB. -
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Oh, that's sexy. Now only if there's news on GPU upgrades...
-
... Just to clarify, if we go for DDR3 1600 Mhz, we need a minimum CPU of 2720QM?
-
-
So is the GT683R going to come in a bare bones option ?
-
-
Any links to pre-order a barebone?
-
also was wondering if the barebone can be configured with the matt display instead of the glossy ? -

Things are looking pretty good on this new laptop.
About the minimum processor requirement for 1333mhz ram. Gen you said that it'll still show the ram as 1066 as 1333 even if you don't have the 2630?
I'm guessing that its forcing the ram to run at a higher speed to get it up to 1333? Sounds like a bios bug... I've never heard of a processor with a minimum requirement for ram speed.
Also can we confirm that theres 4 slots for ram on this laptop?! Thats insane if thats the case.
This machine may slowly be pushing me away from my dream of a modded GX740. Even though I hate 16:9 with a passion. -

Oh wow, fail, that'll teach me to skim through instead of reading something properly, could've sworn it said 1066. I clearly have not met my coffee quota for the day lol.
I wonder how these laptops will fare with overclocking. I know MSI's have generally been great in that area, but this new processor will be interesting to push. Anyone get a chance to see the bios yet? I'm curious if its gonna be the same limited bios as usual. Or if we might get another Alt+Insert, or something even closer to a regular bios.
We need to get someone also to check and see if this laptop has the same manual fan speed control option as the 660 (I think it was), since that will definitely allow us to oc the hell out of these processors. -
I'm Gonna sell My GX660r...and come up with the extra money for the GT780r...Its Beautiful
MSI GX660R: i7 740m, 12GB DDR3 1333mhz, 2x320GB RAID 0, Mobility Radeon HD5870 15.6'' 1920x1080, 2.1 Dynaudio Sound System Blu-Ray -
Yeah the GT780R is very nice looking and a HUGE step up from anything i have seen from MSI.
Very classy looking and decently priced for the specs as well.
Whats the current official release date ? Still mid May?(now) or has it moved further away to June ?. -
ignore pl0x.
-
So it is currently available but only with the 460m ?. Yeah forget that noise.
Already had to many machines with 5870s and 460ms so there is no way i can take that step backwards again ..
560m should be close to the 470mGTX from what i have heard which puts it a notch above the 5870m atleast ..
I am talking stock clocks here not overclocked since i know 460 owners get a bit touchy on the whole 5870 vs 460 debacle.
-
... I had earlier made a thread reg. 460m vs 560m here...
As for release date, I'm hearing from the resellers that it should release by the end of this month... -
Talk about conflicting info lol..
Anyhow i guess a reseller will chime in with official info sooner or later.

But the question is, will GenTech have the barebones?
Nice avatar, by the way, Ken, -
