Ha! This is great stuff guys, keep it coming.
Incidentally, does anyone actually have a 1039 yet? The engineering looks solid, but I'm curious about heat dissipation. If I recall the 1029 had some initial difficulties in this area. Any verdicts? -

I don’t think you were trying to help the situation.
but I did mean it as a joke and nothing serious.
so I am very sorry if I offended anyone.
well what opinions would a **Enter brand name here** Laptop user have about a MSI Laptop?
umm None!
this is why they dont post here.(a exception to the rule is syxbit for some reason...)
This is a review site, to tell how great or how lousy you think the product is not the company.
this site is called "NotebookReview" not "CompanyReview"
if you don’t even have a MSI laptop you should have no opinion!!!.
you have no reasion to attack coffee shark.
and the only reasion I am standing up for coffeeshark is because he been a great help on these forums.
when Syxbit on the other hand hasn't been. -

Noclue4uhere, thanks for the pictures. It looks like a very good setup.
Does anyone have a 1039 yet? Unleaded said they were in US over a week ago. Any impressions from anyone? Any 3Dmark05 benchmarks? Any resellers (like Noclu4uhere) run 3dmark05 yet?
Thanks! -

-
speaking of Unleaded where is he? haven't seen him post in a while
cool logo btw, beats an alienhead any day! -

have a question for you coffee
do you know the refresh rate for the WSXGA and for the WXGA ?
( in ms )
do you think Ill see some "ghosting effect" on the screen when I will play ? -
-
Unleaded: Hello?
Coffee: Hey, I can't make it to the gym tonight.
Unleaded: Huh?
Coffee: Yeah, I have some stuff to do, sorry.
Unleaded: Huh?
Coffee: Wait, I ****ing dialed the wrong number. hahaha
Unleaded: Hahahaha dork -
THanks for your answer coffee... -
-
The expected rate is from 16-25ms or less for most laptop LCDs, but it's hard to find out exactly which manufacturer MSI is uing and which screens are fitted to which models.
The latest notebooks for gaming have not had ghosting issues, that I have heard, from the MS-1029 forward.
I've requested the actual rates from MSI. -

thank you soo much Coffee ! -

Just installed omega drivers, default setup for drivers/MT 37/2GB 400Mhz/3dmark05 @ 4149
I'll make some changes and let you know the results tomorrow -
My results are in line with the above given the normal variance in 3DMark2005: 3885
A couple initial observations after spending some time with this system:
1. The battery is NOT 4800mAh as was advertised, it is 4400mAh like the 8 cell in the MS-1029 (I have not yet conducted run down tests).
2. The keyboard is a SUBSTANTIAL improvement over that in the MS-1029. The keystrokes are impressively quiet and responsive. I consider this to be one of the best changes over the model the MS-1039 replaces.
3. Fan noise is lower than in the MS-1029 and the fact that it vents to the rear is a huge improvement.
4. There is some warming over the right palmrest...about the same as the MS-1036. Not uncomfortable but definitely noticeable. This is actually a step backward from the MS-1029 which was eerily cool over the palmrest.
5. As mentioned prior to release, gone is the aluminum alloy on the underside of the system. There are pros and cons to this. On the con side, the MS-1039 is not as rigid as was the MS-1029, though the grade of plastic used is high quality and there is little to no flex owing to the system's "skeleton". On the pro side, the plastic on the bottom does not conduct heat the way aluminum does so this system does not get uncomfortably hot on the bottom so it might actually be used on one's lap.
6. Trackpad and mouse buttons are much better than on the MS-1029, though I'm not entirely sold on the textured surface of the trackpad versus something smoother. The mouse buttons are larger and more responsive than the recessed buttons of the MS-1029
7. Fan noise has been reduced over the MS-1029.
PS. Did I mention that the keyboard is MUCH better than the MS-1029's -
-
-
That´s nice!!! It´s a really nice score.
I just hope by august/setember MSI could come up with a dual turion version of this !5.4" notebook. -
Im surprise nobody have done a review yet !?
-
by the way thanks Unleaded for the mini review and also welcome back! -
a few questions..
looking at the pictures, i see 4 buttons in a line above the keyboard..but on xmeld/rawpower/etc., there are 6 buttons. Can anyone with a ms-1039 comment on what it really is?
also, anyone heard of/can comment on ibuypower.com or cyberpowerpc.com? -

also, agreed with Unleaded on palmrest heat - not bad, but could be better (right side).
But the keyboard is tons better, too.
Our biggest feedback is the 'rougher' touchpad surface, which people seem to like over the smoother style. You can see the texture if you click on the touchpad picture in my previous post. -
Thanks for your replies..just some more questions
any opinions on cyberpowerpc or ibuypower? does anyone know if their laptops are well built/reliable? they don't seem to offer as much as xmeld or raw power (no built-in bluetooth option for example)
wxga glossy vs wsxga+ non-glare
does a 6 cell battery jut out the back of the ms-1039? how bout 8-cell because cyberpowerpc and ibuypower offer 8-cell battery? -
Has anyone tried running the latest Omega drivers on their 1039 yet? I installed them yesterday but I can't get the tray tools to work (it gives me an error about communicating with the BIOS). Does anyone else have the same problem? I ran 3DMark05 and got a score of 3551 with the Omega drivers, which seems quite low compared to the score of 4149 that Noclue4uhere got (and that was with the MT-37, I have the MT-40...). Any ideas?
-
The WSXGA has not come in yet, so no opinions there, but the WXGA is great at that resolution, that's just up to you. The WXGA screen is the glossy MSI screen like on the 1029. -

By the way Rob, when I got my laptop I couldn't install Windows because it kept shutting off after 10min or so. I opened it up and plugged in the fan... -
which inexperienced company did you buy this from????
tell us so we can steer clear.
after all, that's what this board is for...to help potential buyers make informed decisions.
I myself am waiting for the WSXGA+ model, and would like imput of where NOT to buy from.
i know what some of you are going to say
"oh, don't complain, he said himself, it was a relatively simple fix"
but there are lots of people who don't know, or don't dare to open up their laptop.
disgraceful!
we wait, and wait, and then we get a carelessly built product.
come to think about it, i seem to remember reading something about this kinda build quality on http://www.resellerratings.com/seller7185.html
about a certain company...
check out what happened to Gallantus.
the same kinda thing. things weren't tested before being shipped out.
i thought buying from a small company was supposed to avoid these problems.
just beware and be sure to check resellerratings.com before making a purchase.

Don't mind the other comments, they're mostly aimed at me and only involve one person, who doesn't realize that most resellers average only a few sales from the online boards per month and that their constant barrage of garbage doesn't affect anything.
By the way, on the 1039, I like that MSI separated the heatsinks on the cpu/gpu this time, unlike the 1029. Should keep things cooler. -

Now thats just not right, we (resellers) are here answering all you questions, helping, posting pictures of new products and more. A mistake is made and now that reseller is no good? Mistakes happen and whoever tells you otherwise is misleading you. We try to keep them to a minimum but this is the real world and they do happen. Reseller ratings?? Yes its a guide to go by but you are only getting one side of the story, there may be more to the chain of events than what you read. This has happened to us also and by what you are reading you will be lead to believe that that we were careless and have poor customer service. If you had the complete story you would believe differently
The reseller you are bringing attention to here is not the one who made this mistake, but has posted in just about every MSI thread that I see, answering questions and helping with problems. Reading through those posts with the accuracy of his answers and his commitment to this and other forums my guess would be that he is someone who is committed to customer service. I am sure there is more to what happened than what you read at reseller ratings. -
he s rude , forget about him , one like this is below 200 good one

Just got mine in the mail yesterday. It was my first laptop build, and it went to gether very easily in about an hour from start to finish.
With an MT37 processor, 1gb of PQi ram (PC3200), a 7200 RPM HD, and using the stock drivers, I pulled a 3956 3dMark 05. I'm pretty stoked! Gonna grab the omega drivers tonight and see how much of a difference they make.
/waves goodbye to his trusty desktop -
nice scores, brownie. let us know how the Omegas run.
//a little warm on the palmrest during OS install, huh? but not so bad after that.
