Was tallking with a guy from

    http://www.rkcomputer.net/store/

    He was doing it

"The score on the last was 3969 3dmark05, all drivers off the cd and no mods"

could be a way better with good drivers and /or mods :D

    I looked around :

    2730 for a 1029
    2348 for a 1032
    2867 for a 1036
    and
    5637 for a Inspiron 9400
    ( but its for a 2,16Ghz an their memory is over a 400Mhz I think ! )

Hmmmm, I'm not liking that cooling setup at all. How hot does the CPU/GPU get? I like the cooling setup on the Asus Z96/S96 much better:
    http://geared2play.com/store/products/laptops/asus/z96j/z96j_pics/z96j_back_open.jpg

Also, please tell me that a battery was not taped to top of one of the ram modules of the X1600.

noclue4uherem, have you had a chance to run 3Dmark05 and what is the core and memory of X1600 clocked at?

    Thanks!

So there a copper heat pipe coming of of the gpu that is not visible on the one for the 1039? How does the CPU part connect to fan?

Sorry should have taken a picture assembled, It looks very similar to that one when assembled, there is a pipe. During the week i will get you a good pic mounted in the notebook. Look on page 6 of the assembly guide, the picture in not too clear but you can see what i mean.

Pharoke, I see what you are referring to. Hopefully Noclue4uhere can confirm if there is a copper heat pipe to GPU. The S96/Z96 does not use a heat pad for the GPU as it sits below a coper block connected to heat pipe. I guess it really doesn't matter as long as it does the job.

edit: thanks Noclue4uhere, it does look very similar. both very good setups. SWEET!

Fan blows on aluminum fins connected to CPU and there is a copper heatpipe on the back of the GPU assembly. Appears to be very efficient. Flip check the guide you can clearly see the copper heatpipe on the back of the GPU portion. :D

Ok, new question. I was wondering if the fan pulls air inward from the bottom to blow across the fins? I am sure this is what it does just looking for confirmation.

From what I could make out of it, it appears to be very efficient. I don't have one yet so don't take my word on it.

Yes it enters through the bottom (round Vent) and then yes through the fan and across the fins. This pic left top is the fan air entry.

    Quick question:
Any reason to go for the ms-1039 over the asus S96J? Seem identical except Dual core instead of turion. These tests seem to put the core duo way ahead of the turion. Core duo is also upgradeable to memron. Am I missing anything?

no, you're not missing a thing
but people will get unhappy at you for promoting something that isn't msi on the msi board.

the asus is probably more expensive though

The Asus is fine, I believe it's actually cheaper (before components) than the MSI. I don't like the styling as much, but the Core Duo chips are good.

Don't mind syxbit, he's just upset because he got a Dell.

immaturity.....alway making a personal attack out of everything.
as for me being upset cause i got a dell....do you even realize how stupid that makes you sound.
i was deceived one to many times regarding the release date of the 1039, and it's STILL not even out with the 1680*1050 screen.
at least I actually HAVE a laptop...and, just like DarkHorsePlague, a Core Duo whoops the pants off of the slower and less battery efficient turions. and i can get a merom too!
still, better keep the comments on dell hush hush.....might lose msi resellers business

it was a joke, syxbit, i know it's hard to figure out in the haze of your Dell LCD, but it's called "humor". This seems to evade you.

No one deceived you, deception is an intentional act, while an ETA being pushed back is something that happens in hardware and software releases (See: every single manufacturer, ever). Try to get over it sometime in 2006. Go enjoy your super-duper Dell already and leave us to our inferior machines.

//Goes to report to evil MSI superiors that our diabolical plan to keep syxbit from buying a 1039 succeeded.

you commented out the second to last line, but not the last :)

    maybe you could have used
    /* and
    */

    all jokes aside

I guess there's a big difference between us.
I admit the 1039 is great, and wanted to get one, but sometimes you just can't keep waiting.
You've only ever tried to make me feel bad for succumbing to dell, or for not being able to wait.
there are so many good companies out there, you'd have to be completely ignorant to just blindly buy one laptop without even considering others.

the 1039 is good, but there are other laptops that are pretty good too, and available now.

we don't have to continue this..., unlike you, I actually don't want to bash/flame with you.

I've merely believed from the beginning that I should be able to freely express my opinion regarding other laptops on this board...something you've been trying to censor in fear of someone reading this, and being put off with the 1039.
this is a board for advice regarding MSI.
not a board where MSI is the only topic of conversation.
A prime example was the comment on Asus.
when will people realize that that's theh perfect question.
    comparing 2 somewhat similar laptops.
we should be a little beyond MSI fanboys vs Dell fanboys vs Asus fanboys.
people come here to get the best bang for their buck.
If that happens to be MSI, then great, but we shouldn't be afraid of recommending an Asus/Dell etc..
    ALL opinions are important.
    I won't continue arguing.
    consider yourself the victor.

don't you mean that CoffeeShark got told?
    about time too!!

One thing is to defend MSI to the death. Another is to attack those who he "thinks" are attacking MSI.
    don't make things personal.

those who don't respect opinions should not be here on the boards.

now, back to discussing the 1039 and the upcoming release of the WSXGA+ screen :D

    Rob,

I hardly defend them to the death. I've been critical of the 1029 fan/sink system, the problems with the 1013, the issue with the downclocking RAM, and god knows what else. The only issue here is people who got upset over the ETA pushback on the 1039 and couldn't let it go.

I recommend you go over to the Asus forum and see how the W3J waitlisters (now 2 months and still waiting) are handling it.

There's nothing personal about it, but I'll be sure to put your name and syxbit under "don't joke around with" in my NBR book.

You can attack MSI all you want, I'll correct you when you're wrong, and i'll give you my opinions when you give yours, and I'll agree when MSI screws up. I think that's legal.

as for the WSXGA, a birdie said early next week, but there is no way i'm ever telling anyone that as a real ETA, and that birdie has already been roasted on a skewer for not giving me a concrete date.

I've only ever joked around about you buying a Dell, which you take as 'bashing' or something. When you troll around every thread in the MSI section, talking about the 1039 delay in threads that aren't about the 1039, you are the fanboy. I called you on it, and you took offense. Your problem.

And if you read my statement on Asus, I said the core duo is good (MSI makes some great core duo machines), and the Asus system is fine. (by the way, I sell Asus too, they're excellent machines) Not MSI fanboy material, now, is it?

Your comment at the top, saying how "people won't like you promoting something that isn't MSI", was how you chose to respond to the post asking about Asus, not just responding to the poster's question. You love to stir the pot, and you got your response. If you wanted to help in some way, you would have, but you prefer to get your .02 cents in, and so did I.

I don't 'fear' anyone reading anything. There are plenty of posts about MSI problems, and with most posters, I try to help them out when they have an issue. The only issue you ever had was being "deceived" over a freaking ETA on a notebook. For the last time, I say, get over it.

you complain about the guys who "keep mentioning delays" yet you're the same
so, i know the 1039 is out, but what about with the WSXGA+ screen?
    is there an ETA ?
