Preview of Euro version of the MSI MS-1039:
http://laptoptrends.com/?p=32#more-32
Looks cool... looks as if the Europeans are getting a remote with theirs (again). -
another review.. http://www.pcpro.co.uk/buyer/reviews/83741/evesham-quest-a420.html#
still crap compared to a member review though. -
i don't like two things in the review:
1) lots of lid flex
2) grainy screen? whites could be brighter?
hard to say if these are major issues, but this makes me less likely to just buy this without having a member review it first
****! -
It's hard to tell what the writer's personal tweaks are - the lid flex, keyboard flex, screen quality, etc are all pretty subjective. Is the reviewer really expecting great bass sound out of the side speakers?
and who is carrying their laptop around by the LCD anyway?
MSI's last 5 notebook models have had excellent LCD screens, and I don't expect they'll suddenly change manufacturers.
Either way, it's not a bad idea to wait for a user review and not be the guinea pig on the any new system. -
Battery life with the 9-cell was kinda disappointing:
The Quest A420's battery lasted for one hour and thirty four minutes in our tests - good but not great. This laptop uses a big 9-cell battery that actually sticks out from the back of the case a little, so we were hoping for a really good battery life, somewhere close to three hours. As ever, our battery tests are intensive, so you can expect longer in most scenarios, but not if you're playing games or watching DVDs. -
ah, but that's because they were running things. most other reviews run battery tests when doing basically nothing or very light tasks.. However I reckon it'd still get around 3 hours, a little disappointing. so is the flex thing.. I hope an independent review, hopefully by one of our own members will fix that..
but in the worst case scenario.. seems like the 2006 whitebook offerings from MSI and Asus are disappointing so far
go quanta?
-
LOL. One of the reviews said that the laptop comes with a Lithium Iron battery...
However, is the fingerprint technology only in the pre-built models and not in the MS-1039?? This is the first I've seen any indication of one...
DH -
I would like to know what their intensive battery tests are. What they got 3 instances of Doom3 running or something?
-
It looks like bad news......
I was so excited about it.... -
meh, just let Unleaded get a hold of one and pick it apart. He's highly critical and will let you know if it's worth anything. I'm a little more leniant and don't take offense to a very slight keyboard flex like he does.
-
Yeah, but the battery life is what is getting me.
-
there's not a lot of info on it yet, play the wait-and-see game. If it's that bad, you'll know long before you need to make a purchase decision.
-
Only because of you and unleaded. But now that I think about it the European reviews tend to bash some really good laptops that other real world people seem to have no problems with.
-
well, that's what the forum is for and why we are on here - give out some knowledge so you don't have to be the Beta-tester of new models. As the euro models sometimes differ from the US models, generally I read the other reviews and keep them in mind, but I don't really worry too much about them.
-
do you know if MSI is going to release an Intel variant like they did with the 1029 and 1032?
if I recall correctly, the 1032 had better battery life than the 1029 right? -
We're not allowed to discuss the roadmap, even if you guys have found it, but you have seen the 1012/1013, 1029/1032, and 1035/1036 models.
-
I'm assuming I can't get this in Canada? Laptop looks to have everything I need.
-
Coffe, i read it in a website somewhere that in asia they are redisigning the x1600 or the interface with it (i am not expert in that), and they got a much better result, like 30% better performance for that vid card (no overcloking).
Do you think MSI has something in mind about that?
Sorry pals, but i don´t remember the site...
-
Not only perform better but have the ability to launch satellites into orbit. Of course this is unconfirmed but I was hoping to hear more about this soon.
-
You can order from www.rawpowerpc.com as the accpet canadian orders
-
Not sure, but I think you saw something on the Desktop line of x1600s.
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/print/ati-x1600-mobility.html -
yes...... i think it was that site.... sorry for the confusion....
-
I've been looking everywhere and I just haven't been able to find any kind of impartial review of the MS-1029. I think that I'm fairly set on getting the 1039 once it comes out, but I can't help but be curious about how it will perform. Does anyone have super-pi tests for the 1029? or benchmark scores? I figure such things would be a semi-decent preview of the 1039's capabilities.
-
I wouldn't judge any laptop, even remotely, by a predecessor. The 1029 has been benchmarked in the past by both resellers and users. But if you want the 1039 capability, just wait for it to be out a few days and it will get posted here. Not much accuracy in predictions. -
Makes sense I suppose. I was looking more to determine a lower-limit for my expectations than evidence on which to base a decision. Guess we'll just play the waiting game...
...
...oh, the waiting game sucks! Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos! -
Well, it's early March - where is my 1039??
-
Was just going to post the same thing
Any word on the price? (barebone price, so then I can get an idea of what it will be with cpu, ram and drives) -
lol you guys are relentless. we're still waiting here too...
-
I think they are worse than me
-
i doubt it
i bothered MSI (yet again) about it thanks to your repeated inquiries, but don't count on anything with dates and prices coming back, at least publicly. -
Sure they are
-
no I'm not
-
Man this thing looks juicy..Im guessing early march would be March 1st-15th. If it is not out by then I prolly won't be out in march...
-
the anticipation is KILLING ME!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!
-
The anticipation has already killed me
And the only indications of costs that I have seen was from this preview http://laptoptrends.com/?p=32#more-32 which estimates the barebone to cost around $1000 USD and this review http://www.pcpro.co.uk/buyer/reviews/83741/evesham-quest-a420.html# which puts a fully built one from that particular reseller at around £999 or about $1750 USD
I just want to see some official prices -
$1000US sounds a touch high to me, but it also states a fingerprint reader, which I also don't see in any specs, so I wouldn't put too much stock in it applying to US prices.
-
if i can get a barebone for 900 bucks w/ wifi & a wsxga screen, i'll buy one
-
Anything less than a thousand for the whitebook would sell me. I think this set-up should prove pretty resilient so I'm going to stretch my budget for it.
-
I just wanna know if the 1039 will have WSXGA+!!!
-
The latest news on that is they are thinking of making WSXGA optional in a later version of it (or something like that).. but if they do it the WSXGA version wont have a glossy screen. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=42169
edit: nevermind you already posted in that thread.
I do hope they change it and just release it as wsxga... but at this point isn't it too late? They have to already be in production in order to make an early march release. -
my tax return just came through... where's my 1039?
/me waits impatiently -
I am wondering about the glossy screen and the wsxga+ too. Specyally after i saw a glossy creen from an DV1000 yesterday in the store. It looks beatifull, i want one!!!!
-
Im patient for the laptop it self since im in no hurry to buy one just yet, but im impatient for a review... if that makes sense.
-
A review will just make you all anxious.
-
Jeez...with all of these new components like the X1600 this barbones sounds like it will be in the ballpark of 1200-1400 bucks!
-
I'm curious to see the whitebook price too. I've heard $900-$1000 tossed around, but it seems to me that with these specs it could go for a lot more. (Not that I know anything mind you
) Does anyone know if the 1029 will be reduced in price when the 1039 is released?
-
I was wondering the same too, It seems unlikely they would release something that is the same price as their earlier model (1029)... If the price of it does not change, then it is likely the price of this will be over $1000.
-
Still a complete unknown, though i'd agree it will be more in the range of the 1036 than the 1029. You have to add on cost for an upgraded screen and the upgraded video.
If you look at other similarly spec'd rigs today, you've got the Acer 8204 at well over $2300 fully equipped. Other systems run from 1800-2600, depending on screen size/resolution and components.
I would expect a similar price structure ($2300) to a fully equipped MSI 1039, which would put the barebones anywhere from $1200-1400. MSI has been very competitive in terms of price and should continue to do so.
But like I said, it's all guesswork, no official prices yet.
