firegl v5200 is built from the x1600 architecture. it will perform better in cad/other 3d business programs better than the x1600, but will not game as well.

I think you'll do fine. The only thing I would concider would be adding another gig of RAM for 2 gig total. I've heard that CAD programs can be RAM intensive, but I honasty don't do anything in CAD so I could be off.

This thread will get 25,000 views before this thing actually comes out. By the time it comes out it will already be (almost) outdated by an even better laptop with 939 (X2 cores) and better video card. :nvidia:, :ati:

And to think, this thread was meant for "Early March" :D

Sometimes I hate technology

I don't know why MSI hasn't released this laptop yet. I would've bought this laptop if it had been released in March. Now I'm resigned to get the Asus W3J.

I am also very close to cancelling my order and getting some other laptop. I was really looking forward to getting this, but I don't think it's worth the wait.

There are maybe several factors for the delay, but what do you think when AMD introduces dual core X2 in July? It is almost May now. So, if MSI releases this barebone for single core, consumers will evaluate their choices whether they buy it or wait for the next X2. I think MSI does not have a good marketing strategy.

Unless you're trying to hook it up to a home based 7.1 THX sound system the stock sound should do.

It's pretty much a refresh of the MSI-1029, just has the X1600 instead of the X700. That and a lot of cosmetic changes.

Maybe someone just misread the date. Early MAR could have meant early MAY ;)

Buy the way, anyone know if the 6 cell will be the biggest battery available, or will one of their earlier 9 cells work?

The WXGA is shipping now, for those interested. There is no ETA yet on the WSXGA. I would prefer the actual users post reviews, but I can put up pictures and initial impressions if anyone cares.

    Sorry

It will be a couple days before i get to the review, that's why I was hoping someone else could get to it. Probably Thursday or Friday for pics and testing, there are still some issues to check out before a clean bill of health can be given (checking for heat issues, build quality, keyboard responsiveness, etc). MSI has been getting better and better with each notebook release, hopefully that will continue. If the 1039 beats the 1036 in quality and build, it will be quite a system.

Maybe Unleaded or one of the other vendors will have some stuff up before then, either way, you should be getting pics somewhere online, probably see them here in the forum by tomorrow or Thursday.

Well if the 9-cell works I remember Coffee saying the 9-Cell in the 1036 lasted 3hrs 20mins doing web surfing and office tasks, so I can only imagine it would get better time on a smaller screen and more efficient graphics card.

No 9 cell for the 1039 right now, no compatibility with the other units battery packs, stuck with the 6 cell for now.

Keep in mind the 1039 6cell is a 4800mah battery, equivalent to most 8cell ratings, and is the only important measurement. For instance, the 1029 has an 8cell at 4400mah and gets anywhere from 2-3 hours on battery.

I think I was the first one in this forum to point that the battery in the 1039 was bigger then the conventional ones and because of that i hope it can lasts 3.5 hours.

By the logics this battery should last ~10% more than another 6 cell.

My dell inspiron 120 with 6 cell lasts 2 hours......
