Performance will be about the same.

Overclockers are now taking pre orders (UK based company) and are offering the 860M AND 870M.
** MSI GS60 GHOST NOW AVAILABLE & GS70 STEALTH CRACKING DEAL!! ** - Overclockers UK Forums
Can anyone me help decide if it's worth the extra money getting the 870M?
Out of curiosity Gigabyte have update their models as well: GIGABYTE - Notebook & Netbook - Notebook & Netbook - P series, interesting that the 870M has 6GB of ram whilst Overclockers are selling theirs with 3GB of ram?!??
Gigabyte or MSI??? -
You are my hero for finding the 870m Version of this.
Overclocked is currently not selling the 3k version of the laptop.
Also in relation to the 6GB. Gigabyte and MSI both are manufactures of GPUs and therefore can alter NVIDIA and AMD GPUs as they find best.
Gigabyte is providing the best quality the 870m allow (6GB) as well as the best 860m Can offer(4gb) but This will most likely cause the P34G v2 and the P35W v2 to run supper hot!
I think i'll stick to MSI.
They also allow finance payments which will make my life so much easier!
Also can anyone confirm if the SSDs or the HDD are replacable? -
SSD in GS60 is replacable ... but it is not basic mSata SSD ... idk how it is called but it is longer than the ones used in GS70 or other GT/GE models
HDD is easily replacable than SSD -
Its a m.2 ssd

Yup, M.2 SSD, 80mm in length used in the GS60 Ghost. -
Gibbo from OverclockersUK website who have them for pre-order say that MSI have confirmed that the 860M is the Maxwell part! Overclockers UK Forums - View Single Post - ** MSI GS60 GHOST NOW AVAILABLE & GS70 STEALTH CRACKING DEAL!! **

I saw that page yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was how much of the specs were not correct, like weight, thickness, and nic. So not sure I'm buying that the 860m is a maxwell quite yet...... (either way, I want the 870m, preferably with the 1080p screen over the 3k so I can use native DPI).

I hope it is maxwell, going to have to check this carefully.
-
Haven't we already seen a GPU-Z which showed 1152 Shaders? That's Kepler my friends.
-
newegg posted a review of the gs60 (they do say maxwell based 860....but it's newegg and they don't actually show much of anything in the review).

Im not interested in replacing the whole keyboard. Just switching the Z and Y keys. Ive never tried one of these steelseries keyboards and wonder if the actual keys are removable.

I plan on doing a video review of one tomorrow. Will see if I can find some helpful info while doing so.

I really really hope that Newegg video is right.

I love how the gs70 reviews appear under the gs60.

is there a hands on of any of the new msi laptops that shows they are maxwell?
just using this forum as reference the only maxwell 860ms that ive seen are the gigabyte 34g v2
and the the sager 7338 type machines in 13 15 and 17 inches. Correct me if im wrong please. -
It's weird MSi is releasing new laptop models when the Haswell refresh is coming in a couple of months. Why buy a laptop now and have it be last-gen by the time summer rolls around?
-
Broadwell won't be out until Q1 2015 . Still an year away .
-
Looking forward to your review !
-
And the MSI GE60 / GE70 ApachePro.
-
GenTechPC's review video on page 10 shows it has 1152 shader cores, which is a Kepler 860m.

What makes you think that? All rumors since January are pointing at Broadwell being delayed due to manufacturing difficulties, especially since Intel just had a conference and they only thing they talked about was haswell-e. One could also make the argument that since so many major companies are indeed refreshing their laptops with the new nvidia chips, broadwell can't be that close since they would just wait. Also, I doubt that broadwell will give any major improvements (if I had to make wild, baseless assumptions, then 5-10% improvement regular performance with 10-20% decrease in power consumption, as I'm guessing that the main focus will be around graphics performance which is largely irrelevant for this laptop). So I'm not surprised at all that msi is not waiting another 3-6 months (quarter to half the lifespan of the technology) to release the laptops. Remember, with this technology, there's always something better just around the corner.
With all that, can't blame you for holding out and waiting for broadwell if you think it's important to you. For myself, I won't be waiting for broadwell without a release date from intel if msi makes this laptop available beforehand. -
I'm not talking about Broadwell, I'm talking about the new HASWELL refresh which is coming out in a few months................
-
Don't think there would be any haswell refresh . Why would they do a refresh ?
-
Well in that case you won't have a problem. Pretty much all keyboards are made so that if a key falls of it can be replaces or simply just put back on, there's nothing stopping you from prying of the y and z keys and then just put them back in eachothers places.
-
Also you can use the steelseries engine to re-map the keys, so this may get around the problem
-
Indeed. Does anyone have any experience with changing the keys on a SteelSeries keyboard?

Just switch the language and use it and as normal, you don't have to swap the key caps. The retention on the keys can be snapped fairly easily and if you do break it then replacement keys are not available and you will need a new keyboard.
-
Hi . Did you do the review ?

Starting on it now, shooting may take half the day but as I find some info I'll try to post it up.SHASHANK_BEST likes this. -
How is the sound of the GS60 ghost ? Are the speakers loud ?
And is there a subwoofer present ? -

Ok guys I wanted to get official clarification before putting up information to prevent confusion.
The word from MSI US is that the machine in the gentech review was a pre production unit and not a final production part. The GS60 units with the 860m WILL be maxwell.
This also means much data from the review such as noise and battery life will need to be discarded. -
Of course, but using the corresponding language with your keyboard lay-out still is a lot more convenient.
-
You sure ? Is that information official ?
-
Hey Hutsady .
What are your findings regarding the 860M ? Is it keplar or maxwell ? -

-
Annnnnnnnd sold.
-
I believe haswell-e 'refresh' is just for desktops.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Haswell e is for socket 2011. That's what the -e tag means.

2gb models are maxwell just as are the clevo w230ss.

So I saw the temps of the GS60 being 70c is that a full load stress test? My GS70 is getting 90c and I had just gotten it at newegg and was thinking of returning it for the GS60 or the 70 stealth pro and was wondering what full load temps were in comparison.
-
That is the Keplar one . Do you have a pre-production unit as well ?
-
Any idea when you'll be able to get your hands on the production units so that we can confirm for sure ?
-
The unit in our review video IS the production unit.
-
Interestingly, Newegg is sold out of the Ghost-007 but not the Ghost-003. I'm curious if the ones in stock are considered "production" or "pre-pro".
I'm to the point now, where I just open the NE page and stare, wondering if I should hit "BUY NOW." I'm not sure I want to wait for the Y50, and both the GS and Y are contenders to replace my ~6yo MBP. The issue right now is whether I replace it before my work trip in 10 days, or after. -
I just pulled the trigger over on Amazon (they don't have them in stock yet, but I have a large pile of gift card balance to apply, which limits my purchase options somewhat). As a long time Macbook Air user who wanted to switch to a gaming laptop, the Ghost seems to hit that sweet spot of size, performance, and (most importantly) price. I don't really like the idea of dropping $2k+ on a Razer Blade, as sweet as they look.
Hopefully Newegg won't hold exclusive sales rights on the Ghost for too long. -

A pre-production unit does not have the white label with an actual serial number as shown at 00:14 in the video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raFVNWVkDbE
All MSI pre-production units will have a label that says "Sample" or "Engineering Sample" without serial number at all, and they aren't sealed in a pretty color box.
All GS60 are equipped with Kepler for the current shipment worldwide from MSI factory.
There's no further information about future plan as of now. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It could be a gpu-z error then, there is one way to be 100% sure ofc, open the sucker right up and take a screen shot.
