@becca159 - you can hear the fan, but keep in mind that the mic on the camera is pretty sensitive - Ken@gentech can verify this. notice that the camera picks up the sounds when when the camera is jostled or the meter is moved on the table. I know everyone's hearing is a bit different, but imo it's something that you won't notice as exceptionally loud unless you are in a silent room and are constantly focusing on the sound of the fan.

on a side note, is anyone getting any memory leaks with this laptop? I got 16gb in here and it bumps up to 99% usage with no particularly demanding programs running. (only thing I was doing was transferring 170gb from my nas to my secondary harddrive)

How come you all say the footprint is huge? I have compared it to say Asus N550 or Acer Aspire V7, and the difference in width and length is 1 cm max.

Doing a huge transfer like this is a pretty huge task haha. It saves all the stuff your cpu has or still has to processe. (Not sure if already procesed or has tl be procesed)

I am surprised. The GS60 is almost the same size as my MacBook Pro 17" just a bit thinner.

    390 x 266 x 19.9mm vs 391 x 264 x 25.9mm

Too bad they could not fit a bigger panel with a smaller bezel.

Is Newegg pretty decent to order from?
They do charge a restocking fee though. Any other vendor recommendations, want it quickly hopefully by the weekend

If you go with newegg, there is something you can apply for that if you get they'll remove the restocking fee, I forget what its called. Amazon might be good too.

So I've run it to two problems lately. I've noticed the wifi just completely dies when I start doing anything on the laptop with the video card or high CPU usage.

Second problem is it appears that my left speaker cable is damaged, and if any pressure is applied to the bottom of the laptop the speakers starts making pock noises and I had to unplugged the speaker cables to get it to stop.

Has there been any fix for the wifi issues?

I am also having wifi issues - especially during DOTA2. Wifi randomly disconnects, frequent lag spikes. My router is a ASUS with latest firmware updates. I have the most recent beta intel wifi driver installed. Emailed tech support at MSI and their response was to install the latest beta driver - which I had already told them I did. Useless idiots. Router is within 20 feet of me so it's not a distance issue. Occurs on both 2.4g and 5g connection. I have check the power settings on the device manager and in power settings in windows, i have set to 20 mhz, I have even tried the suggested enabling WMM on devices and router. No dice. Beginning to think this wifi laptop combo is just POS. Big thumbs down for their tech support as well.

I went ahead and bought one of those small USB wifi adapters to see if it works better than the built in wifi. For $10 its worth a shot and its small enough I can keep it plugged in and still use the sleeve. Sucks to have to use something like that, but otherwise the laptop is great.

I would definitely try updating the driver first, if it's really an issue then perhaps it's a compatibility issue between the router and WLAN adapter so maybe try a different router to verify.

I did update the driver.. as I said. Most recent version, a beta, which support seems to think will fix the problem. It doesnt. I will have to find another router to test it on - though no other device on the network experiences disconnects.

Well then the Macbook 17 probably was exceptionally small:

    MSI GS60: 390 x 266 x 19.9mm
    Asus N550: 383 x 255 x 27.7 mm
    HP Zbook 15: 381 x 257 x 30.5 mm
    Acer V7: 382 x 256 x 22.9 mm
    Macbook Pro 15: 359 x 247 x 18 mm (but has slower cpu)

The wifi issue is a joke and no blame can be pointed at the router when all other devices work perfectly. MSI need to address this and I agree their customer support is horrendous!
At one point they told me the warranty does not cover mechanical breakdown!! When I questioned it, it seems he ment accidental damage.. Bit different.

After seeing this thread I am totally thinking about moving to one of these from my current GT60 2OD, since I use it on my lap a lot the reduced weight would be very nice and I think some of the trade offs I would make are just fine for me if I switch it up,

I found two solutions to my WiFi problem. Either I switch to wireless G where the signal doesn't get affected at all, or I switch my router to use 802.11n at 5ghz, which does get affected but not nearly as badly as 2.4ghz 802/11n. Under N 5ghz I can transfer a file over the network at about 12MB/s, once i start something intensive it drops down to 3.5-4MB/s which isn't great at all but at least it's still solid and doesn't cut out like 802.11n 2.4ghz, which will completely cut out and generally be unresponsive. Luckily I have two wifi aps in my house, but other people might not have such options. I'd really love a driver fix for this.

EDIT: Also tthe 5ghz N mode doesn't work on battery unless I turn off power saving. Under linux this is "iwconfig wlan0 power off".

I have original firmware from msi v505 and got some fan problems. After some playing like 10-15 mins my fans just stop and they wont spin up again. When i reboot the system fans go on maximum and they wont stop until i reboot once more time. I tried to reflash with original firmware or modified, but it says worng project when i try to execute it. I only used rw everything with profiles like 1 week ago. Any ideas of how to fix this ?

I think the format is half mini pcie, you can find card from atheros, killer and other intel models.

Yesterday at Computex ASUS announced the new ROG GX500, 4k screen, 19,9mm thick, 2.2kg, nvidia 860m, no words about price and probably will be avalaible after the summer.

4k on 15,6 inch is a bit overkill and with a 860m you aint gone come far with a resolution like that. and still its heavier o_O

I can see there is no Ethernet port for the laptop. I'm not sure if it is a trend to remove them and assume gamers play games using wifi or there some stupid designers out there. Razer does it and now ASUS. Thank goodness MSI didn't follow that with the GS70 and GS60

I already found it but it is down to the seller if they want to sell it individually. Just ask Gentech or Xoticpc. The offered customization for the GS60 WiFi card, therefore they should have it. All you need to do is ask.

So i wanted to flash sentinels -75mv vbios! (great job btw! i very much appreciate your work!)

As he stated you have to compare version numbers before flashing! so it says current: 80.04.EF.00.21 and the one i want to flash is exact the same but at the end it says A2!!

so my question is whether i can flash it or not! Im pretty afraid of bricking my new toy! a quick yes or no would be very appreciated and encouraging for me!

sry if i missed the page in which it was already answered!

    thanks in advance

    Hey all

I've found that an underclock and undervolt is NOT necessary at all, I just press fn and f5, which changes the eco mode. I leave it in office mode (which sets CPU usage to 60% max) most of the time and temps never go above 55C, which means the higher fan speed doesnt need to kick in. I ran Fifa 14 in office mode, takes only a bit longer to load, but the game runs silky smooth with temperature staying below 54C CPU, GPU goes up to 65C.
Basically when i want the power i just switch to game mode, no need for intel XTU or any fan controllers anymore (unless You want to undervolt but keep same clock). I also have the fan speed set at 44% constant, cba with the silent fan which switches on every 5 minutes. too annoying and restrictive for the use of the laptop.

Gigabyte/Aorus just released their new ultrabook gaming laptops too (13''). X3 and X3+

    AORUS Gaming Laptop X3

specs similar to what the razer blade should've been (16gb ram, dual m.2 sata slots, display port, lan port, 74 wh battery). still not digging the 1400 vertical display on these tiny screens though. although I admit right now the ball is in the dev's/microsoft's court.

so i recently updated my nvidia driver to 337.88.

Before the update certain games (i.e. football manager 2014) use to run w/ the nvidia card (or at least the orange light came on). After the update however, it no longer lights up orange and runs noticeably slower during gameplay.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

    Thanks!

Also for the question on a cooling pad, I don't use a cooling pad per say but use the slate mobile airdesk: http://iskelter.com/products/slates/slate-mobile-airdesk/

It's great to use w/ a mouse and fits the gs60 perfectly. Highly recommend.

Got another reply back from MSi support today on the WIFI issue. They say no other users are having problems with their WIFI disconnecting, so it must be my router. Helpful. I directed them to this forum and their response was to ask me (once again) what version wireless driver I was using. That was the third time they asked. MSI support is worse than talking to the barely-passable English speaking techies at Dell. Quite disappointed that my only solution is to purchase a thumb usb wifi adapter.

A lot of major hardware brends are struggling with this phase of the market where extreme portability and high specs are selling really well(macpros and razers are selling a lot priced almost in car range), so they are using ultrabook or even tablet components to build a desktop replacement laptop and it's is an hell of a job, but a real ethernet port is a must have on my list too. Still a great piece of enginnering imho, rog rarely mess up for thir name, but I see more wisdom and value for money in the twin business/multimedia version NX500.

Can I ask the model of wifi card you was thinking of? thanks

Sure, when you install new Nvidia drivers, it will change the settings for what programs use which graphics card for Optimus. To manually set what each game uses, go to the Nvidia Control Panel located under:

Control Panel -> Hardware & Sound -> Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings. Here you will see a Program Settings tab that will let you Add programs to the Optimus list and change which GPU they use. Nvidia usage makes the power button orange, and Intel usage makes the button blue.

Alternatively, you can right click the Nvidia icon in the system tray and open the Nvidia Control Panel from there. Also, you can right click on a game .EXE file or shortcut and select which graphics card to run the program with.

i was fed up and decided to throw money at the situation. here is what i did to get a steady stable 30Mbps (comcast cable is supposedly only 25Mbps) connection:

the card in the GS60 is Intel 7260AC (AC being the new standard that operates only on 5ghz band, and backwards compatible with older stuff on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz)
    older cisco wireless N router
i used an older Netgear Extender WN3500RP, did not support AC, and it helped me connect steady to a 5ghz signal (assuming it is b/g or n it doesn't really say) but my speeds were 6Mbps to 12Mbps but steady
i then bought a new router Linksys AC1900 which is dual band AC, however this did nothing to help and i was getting the same speeds
today i bought a Netgear EX6100 AC extender replacing the older one, and FINALLY i am getting stable 30+Mbps speeds in all the areas where i would get poor performance

basically my conclusion is the intel AC7260 was designed to work on the new AC 5ghz band and it kind of sucks on all other older legacy stuff, plus i believe that the reception is TERRIBLE inside the laptop.
AC wifi is not known for its distance more for its speed, so that did not help this mini card in the GS60

how far are you from the router? how is your signal strength? if you move to right next to the router is it perfect? if it is then an extender is your answer!

    other things i did:
    transmit signal medium power
auto on both 2.4 and 5ghz (not 20hz)
    prefer 5ghz band
    wmma? enabled
    latest intel beta drivers 17.02xxx

I have Verizon Fios (50 Mbps), not sure what router they use default, does anyone with a GS60 Pro have FIOS and if so any issues with the Wifi?

Just got my GS60 Ghost Pro today and installed Sen7inel's latest quiet profile. I came from a Dell Studio XPS 16 which had some pretty loud fans, but from the moment I turned on this new gs60, I could tell these fans were substantially more intrusive. That profile worked great, and its nice and quiet when handling day-to-day tasks. I did not down-volt the processors.

Also, my WIFI is doing fine. I am getting constant speeds in line with my timewarner package without drops. Working great. I am connected to the AC band on a Netgear R6300.
