I currently have all antivirus software disabled, as well as window firewall disabled (temporarily for testing if it was interfering with the connectivity). I have not disabled the firewall of my modem/router, and I don't believe that is the issue (I have another computer that I can play the game on through wifi just fine).

People with wifi problems how far from the router are you?
I get issues at home where I'm pretty far from the router, I was able to play online no problems yesterday at work (after work that is). It's defo to do with the router or distance from the router. It's no excuse but that's what I've found so far.

I agree with the distance theory but he states everything works netflix Web browsing etc and Dota does not .But he can connect but looses connection. This is a process running on the pc software based anti virus, mail ware protection. it just has to be if everything works but Dota this is the softeaet that has the conflict with something on the machine.leaving firewalls open does nothing as if you get the initial connection it's not the firewall something is dropping the packets or backing them.

I did a bit of go ogling on dota 2 as one I have never heard of it two how many others have wifi pros who play it.answer loads google is full of people with wifi problems 99 percent end up to be the router. You need a good quality router asus or Cisco.

I finally got my GS60 yesterday i pretty happy apart from the wifi being terrible. I can't play any multiplayer games because the latency keeps dropping. My pings in CS GO keep jumping from 20s to 500 back and forth all the time. This is terrible. I installed the beta drives too but nothing. I cant belive i spent so much for a single player gaming laptop. I hope a fix comes out soon because im not too network savvy and i dont know if my router supports the 5ghz bands i've been reading about. Not impressed.

I have problem with wifi too but not because of random disconnects or weak signal strength as I had with my Sony Vaio Duo 13. The problem are lags. I can't even play BF4 for few minutes and I need to be wired or connect USB wifi adaptor. Any idea?

Wifi speed is good - about 30Mbits down/up but not stable. I have 100/100Mbit connection but little bit slowly wifi router. Over cable I can pass over 90Mbits both ways and it's stable.

Fortunately for me i have LAN cables wired around the house so no problems with d/c

I have left GPU drivers as they were, everything works and runs smoothly. Pretty sure though will need to update in the next few months

I flashed sentinels -75mV vbios (somewhere in this long thread), which enables the option to change the voltage via nvidia inspector, it just makes it run cooler in games, Fifa 14 pushes GPU and
CPU up to 60C, not really a challenge for my 870m but just putting things into perspective hehe.

Intel XTU - underclock and undervolt, when browsing, listening to music on itunes, watching movies etc, CPU temp goes up to 54C max with fan speed 44%/43%

No need to limit FPS, i havent done. is this worth doing??

Better off buying it with the SSDs already in RAID, I did, and by god does it make my core i5 desktop with GTX770 and 3TB HD look sloooooooooow

You will definitely need to flash another EC as the one provided by msi is hilariously loud. You'll find people have already posted their EC in this thread, but I used svets tool to do my own.

By the way i have the velvet on the bottom as well.

    For the Wifi Issues....

I had the same one continously laggs and so one ... no game was playable... its all gone.

    what helped ?

    1. Try to adjust the power settings in windows for the wlan card when you are on accu mode. You can adjust the power saving in the advanced menü of the power settings.

    2. Iam using a Fritz Box . My Wifi issues suddently stopped after I disabled the option : optimize wlan for 300 Mbit. Now my wlan is working fine.

    3. Try to adjust the preffered band in the advanced wlan card settings under the device manager. 2,4 ghz and 20 Mhz play with it. That was all

Limiting the 2.4 GHz channel width to 20 Mhz only fixed most of my lag spikes! Thank you!

For those with the wifi issues, can anyone please let us know if you continue to experience the lag, slow rates and dropped service, or any of those, when connected to an AC router (connecting to the AC band if dual band)? There was discussion on this board some pages ago that connecting to the AC band solved the problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey guys!!

im a new owner in Germany of the MSI GS60 2PC. Im pretty happy with everything, build quality, screen (amazing!), keyboard, and also heat levels.

I'm just worried a little about the fan noise, as sometimes it's almost nothing the noise it makes while watching movies or youtubing, but other times it gets noisy (not for a long time)

I'm reading for updating the BIOS to version 106 (what is Disable GOP/VBIOS DRRS function?), or the Firmware to v.505, but i'm not sure which one could (maybe) solve this problem, or if i should update the VBios too.

Could someone answer me shortly about this?

    Thanks!!

victorgm, if you go back within the last 10 or so forum pages people have posted EC flashes that will help make the fan profile better. The two options are a silent profile which might require underclocking with Intel XTU or a quieter profile (48% to 44%).

Or if you believe that you are tech savy enough: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=148273.0. You can use that tuner to change the fan profile (You would want to change the initial 48% to 44%).

Try 43% first.... it will be a bit quieter than 44% and works just fine on mine. Some even report 42%, but 43% is the lowest mine runs properly. Keeps it right at ~2560 rpm. Either setting is much quieter than stock however. Highly recommend Svet's tool, works great.

I'm having definitely more wifi problems on the upper floor, so yes it is distance related. I'm going to update drivers and try to install a wifi repeater to create another net. I already own a cisco one so this is "painless" solution if works, if not I will use tax exemption privileges as an excuse to get an asus better thing for my home net. Suggestions on (tested with the 7260 intel) models?
No issues so far with public wifi but I've used it just a couple of days just surfing.
I hate this windows 8 "please insert your password to be yourself" thing, put an rfid under my skin and go f**k a panda on your yacht.

Hello everyone, just joined this forum. I am thinking of getting the GS60 Pro with the 3K display. I see a lot of people here complaining about the Wifi(?no clear fix) and the fan noise (which I guess is not difficult to tone down).
A question for the people who have this regarding the build quality. Do you feel it is a good build quality and one likely to last some time? Considering its price at $2K it better last.
Are most of you using the wireless N/G or AC? Which one has the problem? It seems a big turnoff to have a laptop this price to have poor wifi and have to buy a USB Wifi dongle.
Would appreciate any replies from people who already have this thing.

Build quality, performance and all are fantastic. I've had zero issues with wifi performance and if you look at the Y50 forums you'll actually see them complaining about wifi performance and recommending the 7260 that the GS60 has. I've mainly been on B/N wifi so far with much better signal than my phone and tablet. With the fan profiles, noise is not at all an issue during office work. It's still very noisy during games.

If I were you and could wait a few weeks, I'd see how the 4k Y50 compares. The Y50 isn't as high quality, but gives nearly the same performance and runs very quietly for a laptop.

I have my GS60 with my Galaxy S5 in the exact some location on my couch. I have software on both showing the signal strength to be -60 dbm on both devices. Speedtest on the GS60 pulls 10Mbps down and 7Mbps upload. The Galaxy S5 pulls 33Mbps down and 9Mbps upload.
There is definatey something wrong with the wifi card in the GS60. It could be interference with other laptop components, or it could be software related I cannot tell. With the same signal strength on both devices it leads me to believe it is software.

Thanks Xenth! If I am right the Y50 will be slightly heavier at 5.4 lbs. And Lenovo has some problems with their displays not being very high quality (I may be wrong on this). I love the Razer form but they only have 14 and 17, need a 15 inch.
There really arent that many options to the MSI GS60 it seems.

I had awful problems connecting the 7260 to my Netgear router: couldn't move beyond 54 Mbps i.e. no wireless N.
Finally found this article 5 Ways To Fix Slow 802.11n Speed - SmallNetBuilder and it had the solution for me which is the QoS setting and ensuring that WMM is enabled in the adpater settings for the 7260 and also under the QoS setting for the router.
Kicked the connection up to 118 Mbps and my actual internet speed doubled -- still not wow, but also not 54 anymore.

Yeah, sadly no laptop checks all the boxes but the GS60 is close. In my mind, if the GS60 had the Maxwell GPU (cooler, better performance) and got rid of the gaming logo on the lid it would be perfect. The weight, screen, etc add up to a nice package.

was debating between this laptop and the razerblade 14...but my gs60 pro just arrived in the mail on friday (thanks XoticPC) =)

fyi it took me 7-8 weeks after I ordered the laptop so be prepared to wait (or pay the rush service - apparently it bumps you up in the preorder line).

Anyways it's a great laptop! I agree with everyone else that the touchpad is a little fickle but the keyboard is great. I'll be writing my dissertation on it, so I'll be spending some quality typing time =). wifi works great - new nvidia drivers don't work with diablo III. I'll be monitoring the GPU heat and will undervolt if i find it too hot.

as for the fan - it's not that loud imo.

the only other thing that's a little off is the border around the screen (it's a good inch all around).

p.s. the GS60 is 4.4 lbs so the Y50 would be about 25% heavier.

Yeah, the bezel is an interesting point. While it's certainly not that large for it's screen class, you might except a high-end laptop to use a bigger screen/smaller bezel. I suspect they had to make it relatively large to fit all the components into the laptop base itself, but you'd think they would go for a 16" screen instead.

The problem then is there might not be 16" screens of the same quality. I'd rather loose the inch and stick the the amazing display we've got now. Even my mate who's not into tech was impressed by it.

Looking at a srgb screen calibration pic right now compared to the same on an old high end eizo ips display, no noticeable differences. This screen is definitely the best feature on this laptop.

I am very interested in the GS60 as a desktop replacement for graphic work, and keep the option open to work on other locations as well.

The combination of size, screen quality and cpu makes this a perfect match. I really don't like the design, especially the logo on the lid. Are there stickers or anything to cover this up?

Or do you perhaps know of alternatives for this laptop?

Alternatives are the XPS 15, Lenovo Y510, Asus N550 and if you're not in hurry it's coming a new zenbook called NX500 with an ultra hd screen and nvidia 850m.

Design is a little bit gaming oriented but you'll forget about in minutes since you start using it, opening and working with adobe files is insanely fast, so a weird font on keyboard and a lighted dragon are imho a small price to pay.

I received an email from Ken from Gentech PC last week stating that they were starting to work on the custom pre-orders today, so I assume they have their first shipment in and they just haven't updated the site to reflect that. I really hope to have mine by Friday.

Quick follow-up, still no wifi issues at all with mine after a couple months of use, connection stays solid at 300Mbps+ depending on where I'm at in my house. I am using the Netgear R7000 AC router and connect on the 5.0ghz AC network.

Gaming makes no difference in wifi performance, stays fast and lag free. Best I can tell the AC7260 Intel card is just very picky on routers.

It is a really nice screen and 15.6'' is pretty mainstream for that size so the manufacturing is probably streamlined for this size/it's a cheaper component than to get a 16'' screen with this quality. from a superficial perspective, the laptop is really thin - but the desk space it takes is pretty big. as the consumer I probably would have appreciated making the laptop footprint a little smaller and increasing the thickness by a couple of mm. this would not only make the bezel thinner but it would also make it fit into laptop cases/backpacks designed for 15'' laptops. would've helped the thermals a bit too (and allowed for a bigger fan).

one more thing - i'm coming from a HP envy 14, so I probably don't know any better, but the power brick is pretty big (please FINsix make a 150W dart!). I'm probably going to buy a couple extra power bricks and just leave one at work and at home.

@Unn0 - agree with you on the gaming glitter - it's really subtle compared to the other gaming brands and if you are using it as a desktop replacement, you're most likely going to have the dragon face a wall or a cubicle (so nobody else will see it).

Screen of Y510 is pretty crap I have read. Asus N550 is too big and the zenbook will only get here in three to four months.

I have now ge60pro Apache and I had in two weeks gs60pro Stealth and both have almost same battery behavior:

battery icon show that AC is plugged in whtn it is not (it shifts within a few minute, I see it on battery icon ant screen change a brightnees), than it show sometimes that battery missing but its powered on battery, and somteimes it shows battery 100% all the time until it shots down (on gs60 I couldn´t even calibrate it but on ge60 now I can)..

Is it possible that both (2 diferetn MSI from 2 differetnt countries) have same hardware defect, (some charging or battery controller) or is it something software related??

I installed my own windows on Appache with all drivers from MSI webside, could it be something with it, it worked good 2 days ok and thet it get creazy...

    Someone? Any ideas?

Does anyone here know about online store that ships the ghost pro inside Europe? I looked around on US stores like xotic and gentech but although the shipping rates are pretty high which is normal I probably would have to pay even more when it comes to my country duties/customs/taxes which makes it not worth it.

Amazon Uk only seems to have the normal version

Backpack included in eu pre order package, fits both gs60 and gs70, made from the same material of the sleeve, well built, light and carries pretty much everything you may need.

Gaming mouse is a decent quality one too, heavy enough, basic functions, red leds and connected with a texture cord.

Yea the thickness of the boarder around the screen is one of the things I didn't like about the gs60 from the pictures. I wait to fully judge it until I see it in person. I'm guessing it looks that way because the laptop is wider than a usual 15.6 laptop, probably because they needded the space for the internal parts so... I think the thicker border is worth it but deff something that looks a little visually strange. the gs70 looks to have a thinner border probably because of the bigger screen with only a slightly wider laptop than the 15.6.... if that makes sense
