It's not really a different material, it's just a thick sticker made or heat insulating material applied on the bottom of the rear cover to prevent burns i suppose. All the models coming in Italy are actually equipped with it and the 4710hq cpu also they're shipped in a bundle pack with backpack and gaming mouse, the guy who sold me mine said that US and EU versions come from a slightly different production lines.

Anyone here knows if the -75mv bios, and the diferent tweaks are compatible with the 3K version?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
It's the same tweak if it's the same GPU, the screen difference doesn't matter to this mod. -
I was the first to report the problem so search for all my posts under my profile.
My conclusion is the card must be experiencing higher signal to noise ratio than normal by being in the laptop and interacting with the various components like fans, gpu, etc.
Measuring signal strength in same location yielded similar results on my Galaxy s5 so the antenna in the laptop is working, but I haven't found a cross platform signal to noise ratio program I can use on both phone and laptop so I can't test this theory.
Basically if you are operating the laptop unobstructed within 20 feet of the router you'll be ok, otherwise you'll need a wifi extender. For best speeds router and extender both need to be dual channel AC
Laptop is incredible otherwise! -
I'm just going to same myself the trouble any buy a WiFi adapter. Is there one in particular you guys will recommend? Preferably one small enough to fit in the laptop sleeve while still plugged in.
-
i was wondering this about the vBios, how ever i'm not sure about the silent profiles or any other firmware dependent tweak
-
I am not seeing any results from the -75mb vbios flash. Can someone please let me know how to check to see if the GPU is actually being undervolted?
-
In GPU-Z your bios will show [modified]. If the flash says successful you've done it correctly.
-
hey guys how do you register the product with MSi? Every time I try, it doesn't recognize my Product Serial Number. I have tried all different ways with the codes shown on the bottom of my laptop, but still not working.
And the MSi website is useless for help, it says "click here to ask for help" but leads you to a page where you can't ask! -

You'll probably need to contact MSI directly in that instance, if their form is broken only they'll be able to help get it resolved. -
Hmm, Im really considering of buying this, the P35W or the Y50 now that they all have 512GB SSD options. Not going to be able to choose one at this rate. Just cant wait for the 3K reviews so I can finally choose.
-
FYI - Gentech charged me for my 3k pre-order, and the boilerplate email (Tuesday the 3rd) indicates that it will be 5-8 days for assembly and testing [presumably a burn in test] which will be followed by a shipping email.
Here is hoping it actually goes more quickly like that newegg order a few pages back, but i am having them customize it with dual m.2 256gb in raid 0 and putting win7 ult on it - so I'm not holding my breath too much. -
So i just ordered the 3k version from ExcaliberPc off ebay as no tax.. it was $50 more than some others but ebay was offering $100 back in ebay bucks so I bit. Plus they have a 14 day return policy and my bill me later gives me a year to pay it off interest free... basically I just use it so the out of pocket is less. Once I sell my other laptop I usually pay the difference at the same time.
Hope this laptop is worth it!
-
I highly recommend people avoid XoticPC for this one. Their return process makes Newegg's look incredibly forgiving. If you are remotely on the fence over whether the heat, throttling or noise will be too much for you then go somewhere you won't get slapped with a 15-30% charge for returning the laptop.
*$280-560 for my order. Guess I won't know which until they're done processing it. -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Did you have a particular return policy of ours that you were concerned with? We actually have a pretty forgiving policy with it being a no questions asked 15 day policy. We do have to have the refunded amount less the original shipping cost (since we're paying it regardless of it being free) and customer pay for return shipping on a returned laptop. If exchanging for the same or different product though we cover the shipping back out once more. Fairly standard for the industry. We only charge the restocking fee if items are missing, included software is registered, or any XPC services that wouldn't be refundable like rush production since it's a labor cost we can't recover and it's UP TO 15%, not just a flat we're going to charge you. The only thing that would be considered non returnable are custom painted/etched machines. -
15 days is tight even with some idea of the ship date. Unfortunately, there was none despite my requests. So of that 15 days, 5 were spent shipping it to me, 4 because I was out of town for Memorial Day and then when I did try to RMA the laptop it took 6 days to receive an RMA number. Even if I'd been home those 4 days, I still couldn't have returned it in time due to time to ship it back.
*edit: that's not even counting any time to determine if I actually liked the thing. -
Not sure where you are located, but I had to go to the US site, not the regular MSI.com registration site.
https://service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/registration/default.aspx -

They can be tight in certain circumstances, but that 15 day policy is determined by MSI not us. So you'll be seeing the same policy from all system builders, not just us. Holidays do make it a little tough, as well as weekends or if you're out of town, but that's also why MSI allows a little leeway as long as a good faith effort is made. Sager is the only manufacturer that I'm aware of in the custom PC world that allows greater than 15 day policy as they offer 30 days for theirs. -

I bought this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003MTTJOY/
Its not working great for me. The speeds are terrible. I am still playing around with using the different USB ports to see if it helps but so far its been pretty crappy. Maybe someone has another one to try? -
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
How is the gaming? does it disconnect while gaming or do you just not like internet and downloading speeds? -
Character Zero Notebook Evangelist
Well I am still moving it around the USB ports and will keep the thread updated with my findings. Plugged into the right side (the single USB port) my speeds were terrible. Like 1mbps or lower. I have no idea what is going on there. I now moved it to the Left side back USB port. And the speeds look good. Need to really game with it and make sure it keeps up. Diablo 3 is good for that testing because its really easy to tell when it drops out. -
Cgzero, Newegg allows a 30 day return policy if you are a 'Premier member'. There is a 30 day free trial and a 50$ fee for this Premier membership. Might be a good way to go for such a costly item. There is always a possibility of issues with you not liking the product and for something that costs 2000$ it better deliver everything you want. I agree 15 days is too short,
-
Are you saying we should just avoid XoticPC for standard builds then? Why does the countdown start from when it is shipped instead of when it is received? Why such a long wait to get an RMA number if there is so little time to return it? You'd basically need to put in a request the moment it was received (since you need the serial to submit an RMA) and then rush ship the return. Heaven help you if there are delays in either delivery.
-
Yeah, I really regret not going with that now! I'd heard they had a really bad return policy so I didn't even check them before ordering from XoticPC. Definitely worth signing up for that just as insurance.
-
OrangeCoffeeMug Notebook Consultant
Yeah, you're also better off going with a place like newegg or amazon for standard builds because of the long preorder waits you have to sit through at some of these custom pc places. If you don't need to customize it I don't see the point. But I think 15 days is pretty standard unless you go with a more retailer best buy kind of store which often doesn't even have the laptop in stock. -
I went with XoticPC because I wanted to upgrade to 16GB to handle multiple VMs and I'd heard doing it yourself would void the warranty. Foolishly assumed I'd at least get the chance to return it in time. It needs to be 15 days from delivery or 15 business days from ship. Otherwise the return policy might as well not exist.

Just received my gs60 pro 052. When I move the screen there will sometimes be flickers on the screen. The bottom left of the bezel is slightly loose. Is this normal?
-
I inquired gentechpc about putting a killer WiFi card into the gs60 instead of the Intel card and this is their response as to why it won't work.
"No it wont fit. the GS60 using smaller form factor for the wireless card, regular card simply won't fit"
So if anyone could find a killer card with the same mini pcie form factor, that would be awesome. I'd even settle for an Intel N type WiFi card -
No, build quality is good on the GS60. Sounds like the monitor cable might be loose.
-
Can someone do me a favor and post their drive partitions (sizes and names) if they haven't changed them? I think I might have changed mine (been doing some disk and partition changes) and I think it's causing me not to be able to create a recover iso. Easiest way would be to go bring up 'Disk Managment', but opening 'This PC'/'My Computer' would also work.
Thanks -
I too tried every single thing I could think of (one the US site) and nothing worked. Gave up after that. Let me know if you have better luck.

I'm currently working on an Under Volted Overclocked Performance Bios. It scores:
3D Mark Fire Strike
Combined 4758
Graphics 5178
3D Mark 11
Combined 7670
Graphics 7783
I'm doing some more tweaking and stability testing and will release this weekend.
I'm also going to release an undervolted underclocked Vbios which will score the same as stock but with less voltage and a slightly lower core clock but higher memory clock.
Stay tuned. I'll do a youtube install video for people that are unsure on how to install.inc77, metalchad, Cenvan and 1 other person like this. -
-
Anyone has a review of the 3k? does the extra res worth the 200 bucks?
-
Mine is still on order ill report back when it arrives - its looking like sometime next week. Unless Gentech is able to drop it in the mail today, in whicn case it could arrive tomorrow as I am only 30 miles from their office.
-
Check your SPAM Folder, mine was shipped on tuesday, i was like crazy until i find the track number on SPAM
-
Nope, just got off the phone they are still waiting on receipt of the SSD's.
-
Got my 3k today, but I'm at work, went through the basic set up and am just casually installing stuff while also working... I plan on making a fairly in depth video review but I may not have it complete for another week or so.

They just told me it's going to be another week for the SSD's

I've been testing a few different custom VBIOS's. They're all tested under Crysis 3 which is a worse case scenario and also very susceptible to crashing if things aren't stable. All the posted VBIOS's are stable on my machine. Its not guaranteed they will be stable on yours. Flash at your own risk. If you have any stability problems I have included the latest MSI Vbios in the zip file. BIG thanks to Sen7inel and Svet for their knowledge and tools.
To flash follow the instructions outlined in my video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2DK6u12UH4&feature=youtu.be
You'll need the following software:
Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
Download NVFlash 5.136 | techPowerUp
Here is an image comparing the various VBIOS's which are available:

I'm using the Performance bios. perf.rom It scores 5152 graphics score in 3DMark Firestrike. Heat wise on the table it gets up to the same temp as the stock bios so touching 90C in Crysis 3. On a laptop cooler (which is what I use 90% of the time) the temps dont go over 90C.
The CoolmemOC.rom Overclock Memory, Underclocked Core, runs around 86C on the table playing Crysis 3. The idea with this BIOS is lower voltages than I would normally be stable at but offsetting this with a drop in the Core speed. I get the performance back by boosting the memory clocks slightly.
The finaly BIOS is Cool.rom this uses the same voltage's as Coolmemoc.rom but without the bump in Memory speed. If you're concerned about heat on the go this is the one for you. You could try and overclock the core back to stock if you wish.

I just registered my MSI laptop from the code on the bottom of the laptop, but I might actually have to exchange laptops because this one has a loose LCD cable or something. I wonder if that means I would have to re-register the new exchanged laptop.
On a side note, is there a way to add gestures to the touchpad with some type of custom driver? I can't side scroll in my web browser
. Or maybe there is a way to edit it in software that I'm not seeing. Lemme know!
-
Thank you Mardon for this and nice instructions. I'll probably give your perf vbios a shot. I just got my GS60 Pro today and busy installing/setting it up etc.mardon likes this.
-
@mardon... this might be a silly newb question, but does your vbios flash also include custom fan profiles? I am still on stock and now I know what everyone means about the fans lol... They don't bother me as much but it might my wife.
-
No it doesn't include a fan profile. Sen7inel's in this thread is spot on. That's the one I use. Zero fan speed when it's kept cool.
-
Excellent, thank you for the quick response
Time to dig up Sen7inel's post.

Ordered from Newegg, just waiting, had ordered Thursday but was shipped today, UPS next day. I guess I wont get it Saturday (UPS does not probably ship Sat unless they get more money to), will have to wait till Monday.
This is a very helpful forum, could someone post the useful links/bios setting/fan profiles in one place? -
Does anyone have a site recommended for configuring windows 8.1 and other programs like Google chrome for a 3K display, is this automatic?
