    Hi ,

Has anyone have the 504 or 503 firmware ? Thoses firmware are able to downclock the cpu fan to 2550/2580 , i think that the 505 and 506 don't want to go under 2660 :)

    Thanks

Well it started disconnecting my wifi again with the 17.0.3 driver. Have to disable and reenable wifi to get it to reconnect. Total BS.

Is this an Intel issue? Or a compatibility issue?

God knows but there must be a high percentage of people with the issue on this forum.

    Hi, Guys.
    Waiting for updated 2PE 052US (FullHD). with 4710HQ and 870M 6GB.

Any news about update? Like as GS70-212US.
How justified would wait GS60 with same CPU\GPU.

I was also thinking this but reading online it is just common with this card no matter the manufacturer of the laptop....

I started having issues again last night almost like the card isn't agreeing with specific dns addresses...

I have 4 or 5 different routers I've accumulated from different projects or I may pick up an ac router and see if that fixes stuff

I took delivery of my 3k version I will.have to dig deep but I have owned alot of laptops and other than the size its etremely bad at playing games.I am comparing with asus 860m just runs games so much smoother and higher fps haigher settings. 3k screen is a gimmick save your money not enogh power to use in games and you need spidey vision to use as desktop res. Wifi issues I have none. Asus router connected was little slow over to intel site updated driver connected 5g done. screen quality is good and no edge bleeding. I think if your on fence stay on it. Nvidia needs better gpus for these higher res laptops

In general, I agree with 3K being a "gimmick" at this point - I suppose it depends on your tolerance of small text. I hear Win 8.1 handles high DPI screens better than other windows versions, though it would be challenging to run any AAA game with high FPS - I think the German notebookcheck.com review showed sub-30 FPS on several titles at max res. Still, I think the thought is to use it downscaled to FHD or even less on games and native res for productivity. My guess, though, is that we're about a year away from the industry smoothing these wrinkles out. Probably my next laptop will be high DPI, but for now its a little too much, too soon. Now that my WiFi is working, I'm quite happy with my GS60 Pro (non-3K).

Absolutely - the saving grace is that it seems like it is the card and not the laptop per-se (e.g. Lenovo uses the same card with similar issues...). Since it's not everyone, it may be a relatively "finicky" card that needs a near-ideal AC connection to work. Until I got mine on an updated AC router with the latest card driver and router firmware, it was horrible. It just needs everything to be "just right" to work "normally".

It's too bad it had to be this way - the Killer LAN is great, wish they could have put in a Killer WiFi, too. (I know the card size issues are a problem, just wishful thinking...)

Is the card size a brand new standard coming in? If so I'm sure a killer model will come out and I'll be dropping the Intel one for sure!

Not exactly - Windows needed to allow Microsoft Silverlight some sort of security permission (pop-up), and then it worked. Amazon instant videos wasn't working until that step went through.

I think this is some kind of new card standard, since it's being used with the GS60 and Lenovo models, I'm sure Killer will make a model shortly. Should be a (relatively) easy upgrade on the GS60.

Hope all is well for you in the hospital.

Ah I'll look into that. Maybe I'll try Internet Explorer rather than chrome.

I've Repasted the GPU on mine so striped it right down. The wifi card is pretty easy to get to.

Just got home from hospital feeling much better. Been in southeast Asia so was a bit of a malaria scare. The positive lots of time to play watch dogs. I found locking it to 30fps was ironically a smoother experience and stopped all stutter.

I got off of work early today so I finally have some time to play with the laptop. Hopefully I will be able to give some gaming temps soon. But I really only play league of legends right now lol and this computer is overkill for that.

First to look into the WiFi issues some more. I started to have the issues again with being connected with 1-2kbps speeds after connected for more than a few minutes.

Today I hooked up one of my many routers sitting at home, best results are with a Netgear WNR3500v2 wireless N router at 2.4Ghz. I am 12 feet from the router. I have tried all modes of encryption with no differences in speed or connection ping. I have since also tried at 2 other houses and what it seems to be is that when connected directly to a wireless modem no matter if cable or DSL there seem to be connection problems. But when going through a router the speeds and pings are much better... Very confused as to why this is.

Got PRO from gentech 3 weeks ago.

    No wifi issues
    Touchpad sucks
Keyboard good, but sticky enter key

90% of the time, runs quite while working, compiling code etc...
It came with 4710HQ not 4700 as expected.

Ran Unigine Vally, hit 93C..... :(
    its been repasted by Gentech.

But overall very happy with it.
Sorry hard time sifting through 270+ pages, but seems like there is a custom vbios to reduce voltage? Can someone link lastest

    Much thanks

Ithink wifi issues could be 2.4 as I had crappy wifi until I updated drivers and switched to 5. 3k display in my view not viable.gpu not strong enough to use desktop text extreme small. I do use 4k monitors on my desktop and primary use 3d content for games. Not inpressed with the performance, but I inderstand performance v size is very good. Was hoping for more power.

Mine works better on 2.4... 70Ms ping consistently during league of legends.

Playing at 3k everything high uncapped frame rate I get about 200FPS temps stayed around 65C

This screen is beautiful and even if you don't want the 3k the viewing angles of the IPS are worth the extra $200 ...

The keyboard handles very nicely during gaming, there is a good spring on the keys.

I may have found a laptop I am willing to keep for more than 2 months... yeah I have a problem.

the problem is you cannot really use 3k for desktop so its main use would be gaming. text is just crazy small. alot of stuff does not scale well. yes I have turned it down. I am working a support ticket for the laptop now as it maybe faulty, performance is so bad it just has to faulty.

It's not applicable. If you want an unlocked vbios for the non pro so you can overclock further I'd be happy to make one for you. Extract your vbios and send me a copy. Use GPU-Z to make the copy.
Or I can download the latest one off the msi website.
Do you want me to bump the voltage slightly so you can overclock further and possibly close the performance gap between the 860 and 870?

Hey mardon, thanks for the response.

I'm actually looking for the opposite... since updating the Bios to version 106 from the MSI site, I've been running hotter than normal, especially on the CPU side.
I was actually looking to reduce the voltage to try and remove some heat. I already limit the cpu boost restricting use to 99% in the power options. I've also used the basic fan tweak.
My idle temps and fan noise aren't a problem but under load I'm soon hitting 50-60 degrees and the fans naturally compensating and this wasn't so evident on the previous BIOS.

In short, I'm looking for quiet and cool and happy to sacrifice some performance to get there.

    Appreciate your help.

It sounds more like you want to tweak the CPU side. If you haven't download Intel XTU and undervolt the CPU. You'll get a nice reduction in temps from that.
I use Sen7inel's fan profile which is completely silent up to 50C. When doing basic tasks I undervolt considerably and down clock to 2ghz and the fan barely spins up at all. The only thing I can hear then is the mechanical drive.

Off the top of my head I can't remember what voltage settings I use but at 2ghz is was around 100mV or more. I can even undervolt the CPU but overclock the multipliers so get better performance and slightly less heat.
I'm going to repaste the CPU this weekend. I've already done the GPU but ran out of compound. I'm considering doing a strip down video at the same time.

I played league for a few hours last night after flashing the modified fan tables. All I can say is wow. Temperature of the laptop stayed about the same around 65C on CPU side and 58 on GPU side. And the fans never even kicked up in speed! Great work on those everyone. I am using the newest EC posted in June and there are no issues found yet with the modified version.

For gaming in a lower res. League has a 2 resolutions between 3k and 1080P the first one down was not widescreen so of course it did not scale correctly. The one after that, I can't remember the exact dimensions, like 2100 x 1160 or something like that. It was great. No blur at all and nothing was "too small" it seemed like the perfect compromise between 3k and 1080P.

    EDIT: Resolution was 2048 x 1152

Side note, I see Lenovo released their 4k model finally at $1650 with a 512GB SSD... Interesting.

Hey, thanks for the heads up.
Downloaded intel XTU and stress testing. Currently at -80mv and stable showing a 5 degree heat saving, peaking at 65 with boost disabled.

Whats the max stable undervolt anyone has been able to achieve?

I can't remember off the top of my head but it will vary from chip to chip. - 80mV is good for stock speeds. You can go lower with a underclock as well.

I've just checked the VBios on the MSI website and i've used the most upto date version.

247.rom - Mild Undervolt and stock clocks. There is some small overclock headroom on my laptop but it might not be possible on everyones.
cool.rom - Large Undervolt and a small reduction (-13mhz) in Core speed. This will result in a very slight dip in performance but should offer quite a reduction in temps and should stop any throttling.

ptrout that is the BIOS version not the VBIOS version. Go to the firmware tab.

maverick2k you reduce the clock speed by altering the multipliers. Go on the "Manual Tuning" section then select the "Core" section and you will see 4 rows, 1 Active Core, 2 Active Cores etc. The number after that e.g. 32x is the multi e.g. 100fsb x 32 = 3200mhz or 3.2Ghz. Change the multi to your desired speed. The voltage you want to be changing it the "Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset.

Ok I have run 3dmark11 on my machine and something is seriously wrong 1109 score evey test I see is 7k. All drivers updated and on ac power. Same score fresh out of box, it seems the gpu is not functioning even thou it displays it and the power light turns amber. Any ideas as msi seem stumped.
