I have no problem playing Dota2 on 2880x1620 max setting. There's no spike and there's no need for me to restart Dota 2 client after every match. Maybe try reinstalling your Dota 2 client again? See if it will solve the font problem.

I just try what you said but unfortunately my problem was not solved :(. What driver version are you using. The beta Geforce 340 version or the Geforce 337.88 Version. I'm using the Geforce 337.88

    I'm using 337.88 as well.
Are you using Windows scaling by any chance?

I saw this thread posted over at dragonarmy.msi.com forums about an unboxing of the GS60 Ghost Pro and it seemed like any other unboxing. The only thing that caught my eye was that they've listed the KIller Wireless N1202 combo in their model. Has anyone managed to confirm if the N1202 will fit and replace the Intel 7260AC in the GS60?

When using the stress test for CPU on Intel XTU on my i7-4700HQ/860m model the CPU immediately power limit throttles up to 100% most of the time.. Even with the 860m disabled in the bios.. What is going on here? The CPU isn't even getting hot enough to need throttling but yet, it can't hold it's designed turbo boost speed for longer than 5 seconds before it throttles? It doesn't seem like the 150watt brick can't keep up or something so I have no idea why it's doing this.. I've had a few i7-4700 machines and none of them had this issue under load.

Do you mean that processor frequency is dropping? Mine drops to 2.5GHz at around 90C, then goes back up to 3.3GHz, then drops again when above 90C. Is that what you mean? My CPU Throttling bar remained at 0% though.

Similar but my temps never break high 70's and it throttles at under 70C immediately too.. The throttling is coming from the "Power Limit Throttling" function and not from the "CPU Throttling" function.. Power limit is like the CPU can't get enough wattage to keep the speed up and CPU throttling is a result of too much heat.

Edit: I believe you might have to add the Power Limit Throttling meter to the bottom monitoring area to see it.. Rerun your stress test and see if your throttling shows anything there.

Downside with this throttling is a zig zag effect on fps but definitely not a flat line.

I wonder if my unit is defective? Would like to see if other people are getting throttling with even low temps like I am.. Normally I see this kind of throttle when the GPU and CPU are both loaded but not just the CPU by itself.. I can't imagine the CPU not getting enough wattage to hold boost for longer than 5 seconds like I am seeing.

I'm getting 0% "Power Limit Throttling" after 5 minutes of stress test, but it does zig zag between 3.3GHz and 2.5 GHz every time core temp reaches 90C.

Edit: Though I do have the 4710HQ, with a -70mV undervolt. Dunno if that makes a difference.

Shouldn't make a difference but I find it very interesting your getting super hot and i'm staying cold but getting a different type of throttling.. It could be different bioses or EC firmware, etc. that is making the behavior different..

Can someone tell me how hard it would be to re-paste with a better cooling compound yourself as opposed to ordering from a reseller that way? I'm Canadian and rather than dealing with duties/customs I was going to purchase a GS60 2PE-094US from a Canadian site and attempt this myself. Anyone have a link or pictures from a DIY re-paste?

    Thanks

Little tougher on these models as you have do do a complete tear down to get to the CPU and GPU. When you open up the bottom of the computer you'll see the CPU/GPU are on the opposite side of the motherboard so you have to remove it and flip it around to get to them.

The GS60 is a very compact notebook and is definitely not among the easiest notebooks to disassemble/upgrade/repaste. That said, a pair of careful, steady hands, some research and general computer building knowledge should get the job done.

Somewhere in the 300+ pages of this thread a user posted some pictures of a disassembly (I think he added an extra SSD) and there is a video guide for this as well ( HowTo: SSD or RAM upgrade for MSI Ghost GS60 (GS60-2pci581) - YouTube - in german). If you are comfortable doing what is shown in the video, repasting shouldn't be a problem for you. If you are afraid to mess with a $2000 machine it might be worth paying a local professional to do it for you if you don't want to buy it abroad.

Just as a personal note, I'd buy the notebook locally and check if the temperatures really bother you enough to merit a repaste. I live in a much warmer place than Canada (Rio de Janeiro) and some undervolting + custom fan profile (all of which can be found in this thread, search for posts by Sen7inel, mardon and Alstorm) got me good enough temps that I will only repaste when I decide to open up the computer to get rid of dust.

Thanks for the speedy responses guys, maybe I will just go that route and if it proves to run @ a good temp I'll leave it be for now. This laptop will be coming to work with me as well so it's going to see some heat but mostly from a hotel window.

If you do it without a guide it's pretty can be complicated! I downloaded a guide (pm me if you need it) off the msi forum that details how to do it with photos.
I've done it twice now (I ran out of thermal compound the first time). If you follow the guide it's pretty easy if you've done things like that before. Any questions give me a shout.
One tip! Make sure you've plugged back in before you reboot as it doesn't turn on otherwise. That one tripped me up first time so I've essentially done three strip downs if you include me checking everything the first time.

I've tried to flash your EC firmware but there is no difference in fan rpm. It is always about 2840 rpm. I think this is 48% power. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I have also updated the bios to version 106. Can this have anything to to with the flash not working.

Have you performed EC reset by poking the reset hole on the right side toward the rear?
You can also verify BIOS & EC firmware version in the BIOS setup under System Information from the Main page.

Yes, I have poked the reset hole on the right side. And I have verified that the BIOS version is: e16h2ims.106. And the EC Version is: 16H2EMS1 Ver5.06

Run stress test utility such as Prime 95, and Furmark, to verify the differences.
Right fan is for the processor, and left fan is for the dGPU.

It is sort of working. There is just something that is blocking the fan from going under 48%.
Something else that is weird is that the computer will only start up in LEGACY mode. If the boot is not in LEGACY then it just boots to BIOS again.

Hi guys. I just bought my Ghost Pro around 3 days ago through Newegg and I've been having various problems with it.
    My Model: MSI GS Series GS60 Ghost Pro-052 Notebook Intel Core i7 4700HQ (2.40GHz) 12GB Memory 1TB HDD 128GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M 3GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Newegg.com
First thing I noticed was the internet connection was dropping every few minutes, this occurred whether I was gaming, surfing, or watching videos. The connection to the router was still on, however my internet access just disappeared. I have the stock Verizon Fios wireless router and after making sure every driver was up to date, including redownloading my intel drivers, I was stuck. I read it could be a compatibility issue with the wireless card in it, so I came up with an idea.
I plugged in my old Apple Airport Extreme, reconfigured it, and connected it to my fios router. Like magic, I had no internet issues and I was capping at 10 mbps on steam. yay. I do however still get lag spikes, however I guess I can live with this. My other issue is something I can not.

So far I've only tested it on League of Legends and more recently Strife, but it's consistent and happens every few minutes. I get sound issues where it repeats a short clip for around 3-4 seconds and sounds like a broken record. 80% of the time this is followed by a fully frozen screen that you can't do anything about. This frozen state lasts for anywhere between 5-15 seconds. Like I said, all of my drivers are up to date and I don't really see why this is happening. If someone could enlighten me it would be great.

PS: I love it besides that. Everything runs lightning quick, the keyboard feels amazing and responsive, and the screen looks quite good as well. Besides the technical issues, the only other gripe I have is the fan noise, however I can live with that. I'm thinking I may just have a lemon with this, but hey maybe someone else had this problem and fixed it.

I'll be contacting customer support tomorrow regarding the wireless issues and now this freezing issue with the skipping sound I'm getting.

Just got Razer's 150W adapter, and it works great even under heavy gaming. Just a heads up.

Man.. how does Razer get the adapter so small while every other manufacturer's 150W bricks are huge lol.

A lot of people have been having trouble with wireless.

Your second issue reminds me of blue screens I would get on another laptop. What would happen is the sound loop followed by freezing and then a blue screen with "Display driver failed to recover."

So it might be a graphics card issue and the driver is managing to recover instead of system crash.

Hi, just got my GS60 Ghost Pro and found this eminent thread. Im overall happy with this laptop but have some questions. One of the main reasons for my purchase is that I thought i finally found a gaming laptop with discrete looks, and i think i did. When the keyboard backlight is switched off i think it can be mistaken for a notebook appropriate at the office ;)

The only thing that bothers me is that the keyboard backlight always glows red upon statup, is it possible to disable this so that turned off backlight is "default" until you choose to turn it on? As of right now i've set the layer 1 profile for the backlightning to black so the backlighting seems turned off even though its enabled, possible to set it to actually beeing disabled upon startup?
Also the blue/red glow around the power button also annoys me when watching a movie in a pitch black room for example, is it possible in any way to "tweak" the light around the powerbutton? (To be able to permanently turn the light off would suffice).

    Thanks for your help!

I'm working on a full Tweak Guide for the GS60 series at the moment. I'm pretty busy at the moment but will post is ASAP. Will cover most of the frequently asked questions. It won't cover the wifi issue since IMO there isn't a certain fix for it.

Guys, will I get backpack, acc, and bonus? I'm planning to buy one from Newegg ( MSI GS60 ghost 007),

oh ya, the new series (MSI GS60 GHOST 012 and 013) comes with gtx850, is that ddr3? I think i'll go for that one, as I'm not gamer. But I think i'll regret it if I don't get the gtx860 version -_-

That razer power adapter is sweet.
I'm no expert in electricity, is this compatible with GS60? or it has side effect such as shortening battery life, electronic dysfunction, etc. ?

So basically there's something wrong with my graphics card.
    Fun.
I've already contacted newegg in an attempt to get a refund with no restocking fee because lets face it, theres no reason I should have a defective model and not be compensated for it. Not cool.
I've also contacted msi's tech support, however they haven't responded. Newegg has emailed me back already telling me I have no option but to pay the 15% restocking fee even though its defective. Gonna try arguing with them i guess.

Summary of my tech support experience..
Me: "your product has a problem with the wifi as documented by most users on thread at notebook review. I've tried all the latest drives from your website and direct from Intel and nothing has fixed it"
MSI: "have you tried the latest drivers from our website".
Me: "bangs head repeatedly on keyboard"..
