I'm picking a USB wifi up after work. It's not good enough but I'm getting so wound up by it!
We need everyone to email MSI support in mass and keep pestering them or the problem won't get solved. If they have a twitter bombard that as well and eventually they'll have to address the problem.

Actually I got my GS60 and it had a screen problem from day one so I mailed it back to msi... I haven't had time to play with it so... we'll see.... I'm at the point though where I don't want to deal with any more problems with it. It should be coming in the mail soon, If I can connect with ups at the right time.

Agreed; everything I've read makes it sound like an immature driver issue which will be corrected eventually. There are a LOT of different router models out there, some were built to draft standards and may not have been updated, etc. Speaking of draft standards has the AC spec been officially finalized and adopted? I've lost track...

Different routers, different firmware versions, different competing signals for interference, it all goes into play when wireless is the topic. AC isn't finalized last I heard, not an official standard yet.

So i finally received the gs60 pro!

I was looking to undervolt the 870m and was getting ready in DOS with Nvflash, i noticed there was a litlle difference in the text there.

Sen7inels -75 and -50 roms had version 80.04.EF.00. A2 and the version installed in my gs60 pro is 80.04.EF.00. 21

I dont think its possible to flash it with sen7inels custom roms right? Is there someone who has underclocked the 80.04.EF.00. 21?

Hi, is there any software to monitor CPU and GPU fan speed?
I've tried Open hardware Monitor and HWMonitor but they don't display the fan speed

    edit:
Dragon Gaming Center shows fan speed but I'm not sure it's CPU fan or GPU fan.

If it's the first line your fine coz it's the vbios number not the Graphics card. If it's the 2nd number on the line below don't flash it.

Interesting, GenTech has listed the Ghost-012 and -013 which have GTX850Ms, which is a Maxwell only GPU. Are future Ghosts going to have a Maxwell 860M? Maybe a Maxwell refresh of the GTX870M and GTX880M are on the horizon? Questions, so many questions!

Just when I thought the wifi issue was over, it seems that it is not able to detect other types of wireless... Sigh. Even my phone is able to detect networks around, what more to say my laptop which is only able to detect ac routers. I'm not trying to be harsh or anything but this is becoming more and more annoying especially thinking that the wifi is not backwards compatible??!. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue but more of an issue with the wireless being ac? I've tried plugging in one of my old wifi USB and it is able to detect every network available. Anyone have a good wifi USB to recommend ? I'm just going to get one to be safe, especially when I bought this laptop to go on an exchange overseas.

On Intel's wireless driver download page, you can download just the wireless driver, or choose not to install Intel management software during installation.
However, the connection is still done using Windows' built in function to establish connectivity though, unless the management software itself really have some kind of interference.

I was noticing connection drops while the Intel software was running. After uninstalling I have had no issues. No real way to tell without more test cases but it worked for me!

There was another user who had similar issue too, but he replaced the router and it worked for him.
Interesting to know anyway, will ask the next user who reports the same issue next time.

I'm pretty sure I have uninstalled the intel management software and just installed the beta driver they gave me. It works, not smoothly. But that does not explain why it's not detecting more networks around?

I cannot say for certain how it works or not (actually I have no clue of course :)), but I had issues with newest WiFi driver I have downloaded from intel, so I have downgraded back to version it was shipped with and it works alright... Checking the available networks I can see almost the same networks on GS 60 like on my HP desktop (around 8). From my 3 home wifi networks I can easily connect and use D-Link and Asus routers, the only home WiFi network GS 60 doesn´t connect to is my 5 GHz network.

Just to be precise - I have GS 60 with Win 7 (I bought this model especially because it didn´t have Win 8).

So I am making the jump into a MSI GS60 GhostPro 3K-097. I'm excited for the Double mSata drives. I hope they perform how I expect them to. I am also getting two ASUS PB278Q for monitors (2560 x 1440). I will hopefully be using a displayport to HDMI adapters to get the full resolution I need. Then I need to order an extra AC Adapter (Any suggestions?) I'm so excited for this setup. I was going to get a GS70 but I just couldn't deal with that TN display. So yeah I will be scanning this forum for info on how to fix my machine to a usable level per the discussions on here. I will try to make a summary once I am done getting everything working. I did purchase Artic 5 (I was going to go with cool lab but for fear of melting my cpu to the cooler I held off) to help cool the laptop as well (my macbook could sure use it too!). If only CDW will get a hussle on my order and figure out which laptop is the real 095. My guess is the second one and that the first one is the 097. But alas stupid coorporations never seem to understand how important the details are!

Hey, So I'm thinking of getting an external battery. Does anyone know what would be a good one for the GS60? I want one pretty lightweight but am worried about not getting one that will work.

I've been looking at this one
Sherpa 100 Power Pack | | Goal Zero

but it says that the max output is 120w and the gs60 adapter is 150w does this mean that it wouldnt work?

or what do you think about this one?

google for laptop graphic card benchmarks. The 870 is faster but runs hotter than the 860 maxwell. So it depends what you want. I havent tested my 870 gaming for more than one titanfall match.. but it didnt get hot at all during that time. though titanfall matches arent that long so.. It was nice though to set all the settings to high. But yea its up to you if you want more performance or more power effiencent and less heat.

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to test it on just non game use. I tested it gaming and got about an hour. I feel that it's pretty good but I upgraded from a laptop that was pretty old and had a crappy battery so. Look for reviews, I saw some somewhere that listed estimated battery life.

    Pin-out design difference.
860M & 870M Kepler shares the same amount of pin-outs, but not Maxwell.

    Thanks for the links

Is heat really a big issue with the Ghost Pro? like do you have to physically stop playing because the laptop got too hot? and is there a chance of damaging your laptop if you don't let it cool down?

I take it to class for note taking, and on 20% brightness, with the cpu undervolted/clocked to 2.0GHz and -85mV, I barely get 3 hours.

Sure thing.. Honestly. I was really worried about heat and noise before I got it and I'm glad the noise doesnt bother me at all and so far the heat either.. I'll test it and do an extended gaming session tomorrow and let ya know if it gets too hot. These things are really hard to relate though because they are so subjective.. Some people will be more or less sensitive to certain things. Do you have access to a physical store that stocks the gs60? that wont charge you a restocking fee? or one where you can see for yourself? Thats prob the best way to test it out without risking paying restocking fees.

Honestly I don't care how the laptop feels I will probably be plugging in a mouse and keyboard most like and playing it on my tv when at home, I just wanna know if playing for extended hours might actually cause physical damage. And thanks, appreciate it.

is that 3 hours on-screen time? that's not very good lol my classes are usually 4-5 hours at least, I guess ill have to take a charger with or something

And this is without using the GPU at all right?

Custom balanced mode, I made sure the settings are basically powersaving, but I'll try power saving next week.. maybe that'll help.

Yea 3 hour on screen. I use Razer's 150W slim charger for that reason lol, and yes, not using the 870M at all.

Okay so currently I have the GE60 Apache Pro, GS60 Ghost Pro and the Lenovo Y50 UHD on my radar. I want a portable laptop with a GPU at least 860m and some kind of a battery life. My current laptop is 1.2 inches thick and weighs 6 pounds so I'm hoping for a smaller and lighter laptop and these 3 fit the bill. In terms of raw performance and smallest size the GS60 comes on top albeit with those issues above. I don't mind the heat (if it doesn't cause any damage) and I don't mind carrying a charger with me to class (I usually do anyway) so I'm leaning towards the gs60 but do you guys think I can get the same for less with the other two?

Okay guys, just came here to inform and to be informed. I returned my laptop with the flickering screen and they were able to repair it without exchanging the entire laptop (I assume this because I was still signed into my Microsoft account with all details the same, unless perhaps they just transferred my storage devices into a new laptop). Unfortunately, I made the mistake of forgetting to send in a copy of my receipt to MSI for an extended 3 months warranty within my first month of purchase. I am going to call them soon and ask if it is too late, though I assume it already is.

Alright, now I also have a question (well okay, a lot of questions). I want to give my laptop either the cool.rom or the other one called something like coolOCMEM. Though, I notice that only the cool.rom has been updated for 506. Do I have to update my bios from here THEN download the 506 firmware THEN use my custom cool.rom bios that is for 506?

Also, I saw Alstorm update an EC fan chart thingermajig supporting 506. Is this what I should use? And how do I implement it? Do I update to EC firmware 506 from MSI's website THEN use the same method to update the firmware but apply Alstorm's version, or is it safe to go straight to Alstorm's version without updating to MSI's 506 version first? Do I even have to use Svet's tool https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=148273.0, or use http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/EC_Firmware_Update_SOP_for_Windows_EN.pdf?

Lastly, if I want to create multiple profiles for Intel XTU, for my gaming needs do I only touch the "Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset" and try lowering that by -80mV? What settings should I use for battery savings, non-gaming use? I'm afraid if I edit the settings that my computer will become unbootable, so how can I effectively stress test this without essentially breaking my computer? This is my first time changing any of these things and I apologize for my ignorance!

EDIT: I found out 506 is a firmware update for EC. I'm confused between the differences between BIOS and VBIOS now, though. It says I have BIOS version .106 from 5/13/2014 (says so in System Information). The BIOS version on MSI's website is also 106, but it was updated 5/21/2014 http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GS60_2PE_Ghost_Pro.html#down-bios&Win7 64. Do I have the newest version? I never updated my BIOS manually, so I'm thinking maybe it was automatic or my provider did it for me ahead of time.

If anyone is still having wireless issues I think I may have found a fix. It was really simple actually. All you have to do is go to device manager, uninstall the wireless and then on device manager again I think there is a tab that searches for new hardware or hardware changes. Windows will automatically install a default wifi driver and everything works perfectly now. I have not tested the speed and how it compares to other devices but the network seems very stable and no more disconnections. I guess this explains why it worked for ppl who did a fresh install of windows. I hope this helps.

Hi everyone, I have my GS60-052 on the way. Now I have the fear of the new maxwell cards being released shortly after. I read through the thread in the gaming software forum and it sounds like there will be an announcement/release somewhat soon. I currently don't have a laptop at all since I gave my old one away. Does anyone have any opinions on if I should wait for the more efficient maxwell cards (and their best guesstimation on when the new cards should be expected) or should I just stick with the pretty awesome GS60?

Your GS60 is already awesome to use, some simply just wanted to make sure that they are receiving the newest GPU.
There are ways that you can modify the VBIOS to undervolt it so it will run cooler.

Hey guys so today I am going to order my new laptop. I have it narrowed down between:

    Aorus x7
    MSI GS60 (860m or 870m, not sure)
    MSI GS70

I have been researching a lot and just can't choose any one over the others. What really holds me back from the Aorus is the negative information about the monitor quality.

What's all your opinions on the GS60 if you have one? Can you help me figure my out?
