Yep, different models embedding either the 860M (Kepler), or the 870M (Kepler), using the same MB..... makes sense!

I just love how over and over even after Ken confirmed it was indeed Kepler people still kept saying/asking/thinking it was maxwell. It was really making my head hurt.

I have seen this behavior before and it's where people just do not want to believe something is true so they keep asking till they hope to hear the answer they are looking for.

As for someone asking if English is your native language Striker I almost fell off my chair.

So, any word how long NewEgg has the exclusive on these here in the US? I preordered elsewhere but curious how long the wait will be? I'm fighting the urge to cancel and go with NewEgg simply because they have them ready to ship ha

Normally, exclusives are over, when other resellers begin receiving them. I understand Ken will begin shipping the GS60 Ghost today, so I'd say Newegg no longer has an exclusive.

I saw a post earlier with Ken joking about April Fools Day and shipping today, is that what you are referring to? His website along with all other resellers do not list it available as of this post, only pre order... Newegg is advertising they are exclusive to them, so obviously they worked out a deal with MSI, I was just curious how long deals like that typically last.

I recall they recently seemed to do something similar with the Aorus.

Now that I re-read that post, I see. The first time I read that, I took it seriously, because earlier he indicated the GS70 I ordered, would be arriving this week.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... SCREW APRIL FOOLS DAY!

I agree lol, April 1 on the internet is essentially 2 steps back, I ignore everything "news" related ;) Ken did in his defense at least bold April Fools Day in his post ha

Still curious though, anybody know from past experience how long these sales exclusives usually last?

LOL! The exclusive generally ends, when the other resellers begin receiving them. Sometimes the exclusive is for a week, two weeks, or even a month. Also, in my defense, April 1st was the date he had posted as an ETA.... now says 'Early April'. Since my GS70 should arrive this week, I now assume it will be the same for the GS60.

    (I'm gonna spank you Ken!)

Lol, yeah everything with a pinch of salt today.

Nvidia should have had a post saying they were going to introduce a variant of the gk110 for another 860m :p

It's best to stay off the internet on April 1st especially if you are holding out for info regarding anything new.

Ken should have said MSI confirmed today that all the GS60's shipping now have Maxwell 860's.

That would have really got everyone's panties in a bunch.

Of course now that I posted that people will take it as the gospel truth and Ken will get hundreds of emails asking if it was in fact confirmed.

thats not an issue, just call gentecpc or xotic and they will do what you want (add SSd or remove).
I am also looking into a 2 SSD Raid-0 and the 3rd SSD in the mSATA for linux as a stand alone and the gentech pc rep said, add it to your comments and we will do it .

Also, the current upcoming MSI GS60 Ghost models HAVE A "KEPLER" , yes with 1152 cores.
Here is the proof (SCROLL FORWARD TO 10:19): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raFVNWVkDbE
This is the review by gentechpc who are selling the damn thing so its legit.

I wonder if people ever debate these issues (kepler vs. maxwell) when buying a laptop at bestbuy/wallmart lol ...too many geeks on this form hahaha, me likey :)
Also the 860M might be the same chip with 2 different technologies, i read that the Maxwell with lesser cores is within 10% performance of that kepler 860M. So it could be 10% less or more.

It's only 55-60 dB if you plan to use the laptop with your ears as close to the fans as the meter was. The noise level will drop by 6 dB every time you double the distance from the fan to the meter.

I think it might be a mis-information, If you check P34g it has 860m with 4GB VRAM. So following my understanding of the Nvidia systems is 860m up to 4GB , 870 up to 6GB and 880m up to 8GB

I'm planning on swapping out hard drive for Samsung evo 840 1tb but looking at GenTechPC video the hard drive doesn't look like it's in a caddy and there is that white ribbon that goes across the middle of it??
I know ssd is going to be slimmer is that an issue?

I know this website had one for sale, and ready to ship within 1-2 days. Not sure why it's gone from the website now, perhaps a problem with stock or something with msi. Anyways they had it so you might be lucky that they'll have it again soon.

We should be getting our shipment end of this week, if not the latest will be early next week like Monday or Tuesday. :)

It won't be a problem. it's not in a caddy just like GS70, the bottom cover will be the caddy. the white ribbon cable are for the LEDs in the front, you need to disconnect it first before you can remove the hard drive.

As far as Germany goes you can also check for MSI GS60 on idealo.de, they keep track of prices for all models ;-)
Been checking it regularly for some time now, even though I live in Belgium (where prices are high and what's on offer is limited).

Anybody know if it's possible to remove the MSI logo from the back of this laptop? Maybe pry it off somehow?

I am not interested in gaming, but this is the only laptop I've found that has 16GB of non-soldered memory via two dimm slots, lots of storage options, a 15" matte screen, AND is reasonably light and thin. I'm not interested in gaming, and I don't want to sport a "Gaming Series" logo.

If you don't want it to light up put some black tape on the inside of the lid since it just lights from the waste light that escapes from the panel.

No 3K or GTX870M with this shipment unfortunately, MSI don't even have any confirm date.

If you remove it you will see the back of the actual screen itself, even you put some tape to cover the screen but since back of the screen are naked so if something touches it the screen will get physical damage.

The PCB and it's layers and density will always be the same regardless the GPU if it's with same mainboard. :)

I need to find out if it will be worth replacing with two Samsung PM851 msata3 ssd drives..
