Lets keep this thread focused on MSI GS60! I'm sure there could be a whole thread about it (please put the posts there). Has anyone experienced any issues with holding Shift and typing letters quickly on the keyboard? On mine I try and type HOME and the "M" is ghosted away! Let me know if you guys have seen similar issues or if it is just my keyboard. My biggest problem is I type ALM for my work and it doesn't show up half the time. But its only while holding the left shift (I never use the right shift).

Left shift should not be counted in the same key region AFAIK.

LOL, Whew! I'm glad we got that monumental MSI issue contained. I was wondering if we needed a thread for that one. Good work guys :-o

Haven't seen it posted yet but here is the Skylake update for the GS60 coming later this year. Do our resellers here have any ideas on release dates?

    http://www.msi.com/gaming-iframe/nb/GS60-6QE-Ghost-Pro.html#hero-overview

Love the DDR4 and support for 32GB of ram. I'm happy with the USB-C 3.1 with Thunderderbolt support but they couldn't have picked a worst location for it. Having a cable protrude right were most users mouse was a poor design decision.

They've changed the keyboard as well which will likely get mixed opinions. Here is another user's experience with it...

I was just about to buy the 5th gen yesterday haha. Apparently it's back-ordered on Xotic PC and all.
The sooner the US gets it, the better. I really want this T.T

But what are the major differences? Is it worth the wait?
I don't like that new keyboard there..

Unfortunately no exact dates to provide, hopefully around launch of Skylake Mobile.

Their idea behind the keyboard change was a brighter keyboard. Hopefully like previous generations you can control the brighness.

Not sure we can talk about the differences until NDA lift.

so the new skylake gs60 6qe comes with a type-c ? that means i can run a eGPU (when the 970m becomes obsolete) ?

Saw the specs for the 6qe and totally want to sell my current one and go pick this one up. Too bad I have to wait for my work hardware refresh... I love the speed of the pci3 SSD drives ;)

It certainly gives more options for that in the future, compared to USB 3.0 or having to do some of the DIY kind of mods I've seen out there now.

    Hey, guys!
I am having issues with my Ghost Pro 3K. It does not boot into BIOS/OS when I try starting it purely on the battery.
It just shows a small underscore sligtly left of senter of the black screen.
It happend also some times with the AC connected (but i now presume that it did not charge right then).
Any ideas on what could be wrong? I cannot remember when it happened the first time, but it is within aperiod of 2 months, during which I also updated to 10.

Well considering the type-c has a crazy bandwidth... it won't bottleneck an eGPU. It sounds like this might be best DIY ......... and I think this will be better than the GS30....

    Hello guys,
If anyone traded the 3k panel for a 1080p one, I'm looking to buy the 3k panel and change my 4k one (obviously I dont want to exchange displays, I'm paying for it)
I could not find any website or option to buy that locally. I live in Brazil. Any help?

    Wish all a wonderful weekend.

    Hi,

I've received update regarding the repairs for my GS60 Ghost (2PC) I mentioned few pages earlier. I'm just wondering, is the price quoted normal for the battery repairs? They quoted me at around 110+ USD (not exact) after tax. They mentioned that they replaced the bulging areas affected by the battery as well.

I'm not sure if this has been asked on this thread yet but if it has I can't find it. I have a 4k model and was wondering if I could switch it for the full HD screen? Are the connectors the same, would it be a straight swap?

    Thanks

No, you'll need to source the wire as well. It won't be easy but you might be able to get one from msi if someone can find the part number for you

Every time I close the lid on my GS60, the laptop goes to sleep even though I have it set in the control panel to "Do Nothing" when closing the lid for both on battery and on charge. Does anyone know why this is happening? It worked fine for a few months, but just recently started going to sleep when closing the lid.

    Hi!

I have a couple of questions..

    1) Anyone knows of a CPU fan replacement for the GS60 which will spin at around 800-1200 RPM initially, instead of 2800RPM+ ?

    2) For the silent mode program from MSI, there are 6 temperature fields. Would it be safe to put 0 0 0 40 60 80 in those fields?

In other words, would it be safe to leave the CPU without any cooling until about 60 degrees?

Each power setting has its own settings for that, double check you are on the power plan you changed the settings for.

    There isn't any replacement available.
You can use Svet's tool to accomplish all of your goals, but there may be a limitation in regards to fan speed, there's a lowest value where it cannot go any lower because it would stop spinning instead.

I am pretty sure there exist a fan that spins lower than 2800 RPM to start. Usually these fans are standard, just have to find the right one.

Any links to Svet's tool where I can try?

Lastly, whats considered a safe temp for that CPU before it should really started to be cooled down?

Sorry, I meant you probably can get a bit lower than 800 RPM, but each fan behaves differently so for example your fan may be able to go as low as 700 RPM while another user's fan can only go as low as 750 RPM.

Here's the link to Svet's tool. He will be able to assist you with any of your requests.

Hello was just wondering what cpu temps your ghost pro's run at? Mine has the i7 5700hq and it gets up to 85 on 13 degree mornings after about 5 mins of playing a game that's 40-55% cpu load. Is this normal?

Since it's a gaming system with such thin form factor, the temperature is normal, please note that if temp reaches 91C then throttling will occur causing stuttering issue.

Is there only one subwoofer on the left side of the laptop? I feel like my sound has changed for the worse and when checking the left and right speaker i clearly notice that the bass only comes from the left speaker. I might be imagining this but if someone could confirm that would be appriciated.

For me, my right and left speakers both put out bass but my left one is a little quieter than the right until I adjust the balance. I have to do about 60/40 for it to be even. My rear speaker is also carrying both treble and bass, which I find frustrating since I though that was supposed to be the subwoofer. It's not recognized as anything in settings and acts like a bridged speaker

That's a spec error on US site.
There are a total of 4 speakers, 2 of them are regular speakers and the other 2 are bass speakers. There's no subwoofer on GS60 except GS70.

Ok, well yeah then i guess my right "bass speaker" has suddenly stopped working, since according to Xentar712 bass should be coming from both left and right. Thanks for the replies guys. Gah can't send it away for repair in minimum 2 months, too much work :<

Does anyone know of any notebook coolers or DIY solutions to help with the temps during gaming?
I'm using the CM notebook cooler but it's not doing enough. I'm consistently hitting close to 90 or even high 90's playing CSGO and it affects the fps by significant amount.

The intakes are on top, so traditional notebook coolers are practically useless except to provide a barrier to your lap

Notebook cooler isn't gonna help as much, and you also have exceeded the thermal capacity with your setup therefore you can reduce visual quality to reduce temperature as an alternative method.

I play CSGO with 1024x768, no AA and Texture set to Trilinear. The only high options are global shadow and shader, which is needed to have an advantage on some maps. Will it help by getting a USB Fan, like Arctic ones and point it directly to the vents on top side where the CPU resides?

Hitting high 90's by playing CSGO on 1024x768 @ low?!? I can only imagine what's between your cpu/gpu and heatsink. :D

Yup I did for several occasions. GPU temps were stable at 60-70's while CPU goes as high as 95 on HWMonitor. During in-game from what I observed, most of the time it's 80-90's.

Could be, but I'm not sure whether I would want to try open things up and add a new thermal paste when it's still on warranty. Should I? I don't wanna pay a hefty price to just get them to replace the thermals.
