That's normal unfortunately. I had 15 percent wear right out of the box. Almost everyone had similar results

The screen is the exact same as the y50 and the issues I experienced were identical. I'd get the fhd version. Nothing worse rehab paying $2k for a laptop that will irritate you every time you look at it
-
GreyGoose, switch to Firefox, it uses less battery. That might get you to 3 hours. My Surface Pro 3 gets about 25% more life when I do that.

Also close any tabs that use a lot of power, I notice certain sites with a lot of flash content just eat battery.

I appeciate the quick response!! I guess FHD it is then

Hi,
I have a MSI GS60 2PE(Ghost Pro)-223UK, it has 2 x 128GB SSD's in RAiD0.
My boot time are astonishing! But my load times for Farcry 4 are revolting (6 minutes 18 seconds to the 'Press any key' screen). I think but not 100% sure, that this occurred since upgrading to W10. Also, my touchpad has stopped working (ok, I never use it, turned it off when on W8.1 using the Fn+3) and I cannot use the shortcut to turn it back on.
Any advice/suggestions welcome.
Cheers.Last edited: Aug 10, 2015 -

Did you have this issue before the upgrade?
How much space do you have left in the RAID array? -
Cant wait I just got the shipment notification from xotic! Comes thursday hopefully!

Got mine today, 1080p matte, broadwell i7, 128gb/1tb and 16gb ram. Pretty impressive laptop. Getting rid of my macbook pro (2015). Had great battery life but terrible performance. Given up on the energy efficient dual core cpus. This one is probably going to be the opposite, but loving the performance, quite a beast. hopefully 14nm broadwell cpu helps battery a bit. build quality is quite good too, havent noticed any issues, not even backlight bleed. touchpad could be better, and placement of the dc-in jack is a bit awkward.
oh my #1 complaint is whoever decided to move the windows key to the right side needs a good smack upside the head.Last edited: Aug 12, 2015Kevin@GenTechPC likes this. -

Congratulations on your new purchase.
I believe the reason behind the windows key relocation is gamers can accidentally trip the key by accident thus why it was relocated. But a better way is to make a disable key for it instead. -
Does anyone know if MSI will release Win 10 drivers for Ghost Pro 2QE? I'm on intel Gen 4 (Haswell) they only have Win 8.1 drivers available here: http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GS60-2QE-Ghost-Pro-4.html#down-driver The Broadwell version has Win 10 drivers: http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GS60-2QE-Ghost-Pro-5.html#down-driver
Given that I bought this in February it would be disappointing if MSI will drop support for it. Have they just not gotten around to provide the updates yet?
Oh, and one more thing. After installing Windows 10, can you make the recovery media and then do a factory reset? I'm planning to re-install to ensure it's all working in harmony together. Hot updates never work well for me. -
I have a question. How well does the MSI GS60 run on Ultra Street Figther 4 on the 970m?
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Ultra Street Fighter 4's recommend specs aren't that high at all. I would think you should have no problems running it maxed out on a 970m.

Use Broadwell machine's drivers, most of them should work but if you encounter issues with a particular device then please post its manufacturer ID & device ID here so we can help. -
Hello, i'm looking for a custom firmware for my GS60 2QD, to be in silet mode when i'm just surfing.
Or another way to make my pc more silent
Plz, thx -
I asked MSI if they'll be releasing one for the 4th gen. This is what they said:
"Thanks for your interest in msi laptop first.
There is no plan for windows 10 driver of this model haswell platform. If there are windows 10 drivers, we will release them to our website. You can download them from below link at that time.

Hi all.
Is anyone else having trouble with the color of some of the keyboard backighting? Below the left CTRL, FN, ALT, spacebar, and bottom right enter key, the led colors don't match the chosen color scheme, when choosing a white backight for example.
GS60 2QE -
Known issue with cheap rgb leds unfortunately. We all have the same issues.
-
That's disappointing. I was waiting with upgrading until MSI would release drivers. Will all the Win8.1 drivers work under Windows 10? Is a clean install recommended with Gen 4 drivers and the windows update the rest?

There's bluetooth drivers too but Intel messed up the x64 version because it's missing source files.

Hi,
I owned the MSI GS60 for 1 year 3 months now (or 4 months since the released) and I recently discovered a bulging around the keyboard and the area underneath it.
I'm not sure what happened, can I send back to MSI for them to check? I'm quite worried now after discovering it and have been contemplating since whether to send it in.
Hi-Res (Taken from my phone, it's slightly hard to see the bulging from the angles. I tried my best)
Album link: http://imgur.com/a/sOWJF -
Wow, that looks like where the battery is. It's probably swollen. Definitely send it in.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I agree, get it looked at to eliminate any safety issues.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Definitely give them a call about this, but be prepared that they may ask you to do RMA, and charge you for the battery replacement since battery warranty is one (1) year. -
Hi,
Thank you for the reply. Will they swap with a refurbished version of the GS60 Ghost or will they only replace the battery component and return back the original system? I've sent it in but the service center mentioned that it'll take a week to hear from them. *Keeping my fingers crossed* -
Mine took 10 days turnaround, including shipping. I was pretty impressed with the service actually. Better than Asus and HP. Probably about the same as Acer except they got done faster.
I doubt they'll give you a refurb. Considering it was still working, they'll probably just replace the battery and bottom cover. -
That sounds awesome! Unfortunately, the bulging (on the top area) affects my touchpad as well, so I am forced to press it with significant force to get a left-click.
-
Is there a way to make the sounds much louder? After upgrading to Nahimic from Sound Blaster months ago, the overall speaker of my laptop seemed quieter.
-
I have a quick question for the Ghost veterans. I bought a regular Ghost(not pro) to try out and like it so much I want to buy a Pro. My concern is that the FHD screen on the standard Ghost has what seems like bad motion blur. Anyone else experience this? Should I just go for the 4k panel and game in 1080p? Thanks
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
They will replace battery with a new one, and send the whole system back as is.
You can ask them to replace the damaged panels but I believe those may cost extra toward repair fees. -
Display Port problem -
I have 3 displays going;
The laptop display (In Windows' Display Settings, this shows up as Monitor 1)
An ASUS MG279Q - connected via Display Port (In Windows' Display Settings, this shows up as Monitor 2)
An ASUS MG279Q - connected via HDMI (In Windows' Display Settings, this shows up as Monitor 3)
The laptop has been updated to Windows 10 since launch, and these new displays have all been installed and configured for 2 weeks.
I've performed multiple reboots, as well as sleep cycles during that time. Everything has been just fine.
Last night, I put the laptop into sleep (like I usually do before bed) and when I woke it up this morning, I found that I had no signal on the Display Port monitor.
Looking at the display properties within Windows, I see that Monitor 1 is listed, and Monitor 3 is listed. No sign of Monitor 2. I checked the Display Adapter properties and I can see 3 monitors (all listed as Generic PNP). I can also see all three monitors in the Nvidia Control Panel, though one of the ASUS monitors is not showing up as green, and is dark grey instead. I assume this is Monitor 2
To note:
I have taken the mini dp out of the laptop and plugged it into a macbook. The monitor it was connected to, and the cable work just fine. Ok, so clearly not the monitor, and clearly not the cable.
I returned that monitor and cable to its original configuration upon discovering the problem.
I unplugged the HDMI cable of Monitor 3. Monitor 3 goes off and then Monitor 2 (Display Port) is recognized and turns on. To test this theory, I plugged Monitor 3's HDMI cable back in, and just like before, Monitor 2 (Display Port) has no signal (Monitors 1 and 3 are working fine).
To further test the issue and validate that it is not a problem with one particular monitor over the other, I swapped Monitor 2 to using HDMI and Monitor 3 to using Display Port. Same problem. The Display Port monitor does not receive a signal.
I also completely uninstalled the most recent NVidia driver, 355.60 and rebooted. It seems that Windows 10 automatically installs a default driver (though not like your typical, low resolution driver with past versions of Windows). This one defaults right to a 1440p resolution. I then installed the previous driver before this most recent one; 353.62. This did not resolve the issue.
I have also updated the Intel driver to 10.18.15.4256. This did not resolve the issue.
It seems that all of a sudden, after W E E K S of working just FINE, as of last night, my laptop will not allow me to use a Display Port AND an HDMI port connected at the same time.
Prior to these new MG279Q displays, I had 1 VG248QE (connected via Display Port) and 1 Dell U2413 (connected via HDMI). Everything worked just fine like that for over a year.
As mentioned before, it's clearly not a monitor issue, nor is it a cable issue.
And I don't think it's specifically a Display Port issue, nor an HDMI issue, because each of those ports work fine on their own, but when both ports are used from the laptop, I suddenly lose Display Port.
Does it sound like a laptop/motherboard issue?
Or is there something really obvious that I'm missing?
I'm out of ideas. -

Have you tried doing a OS refresh/reset to verify?
What if you revert the OS back to Win8.x?
If you still have the same symptom after OS restoration then it might be a hardware issue. -
I had a similar issue last week where I couldn't see my third display on windows 10. I believe a update caused the issue for 3 days. However one of the updates resolved my issue. I'm not sure that this is the same thing because mine was not even showing the third monitor in any of the dialogs.

I've always had a stutter on my laptop while playing games. Every few min it would just freeze for 1 sec (bad for online fps). Any suggestions what I can do to get rid of it. This even happens on low & high graphics so I have no clue what causes the stutter. Thanks!
Sent from my LG-D415 using Tapatalk -
SteckDEV - I did check my updates (because I know that W10 is notorious for doing things behind your back, despite telling it to let you know before installing updates), and I saw 2 of them from yesterday (anything else was several days back, so those should not have contributed to the issue). I was able to uninstall one of them (the most recent), but the one that occurred right before it, I was not. There simply is no "uninstall" option when I select it. Suffice it to say, uninstalling the one did not resolve the issue. So who knows, perhaps it IS due to the one before it which I can't uninstall.
Though, since you mention the same issue, can you share when the occurrence was for you? Maybe I can look back at those updates during that time as well. Maybe it was a cumulative thing.
As for the stutter issue, in fact, if you search for my past threads, you'll see that I had the exact problem. I was really close to an entire CTRL/ALT/F-IT resolution and just reformatting back to the factory state using the recovery partition. Before having to reinstall everything again though, I wanted to wait though to see if the impending W10 upgrade would fix that issue.
Since allowing the upgrade, I think I have only noticed the issue a couple of times. And it's possible that I was just looking for it too hard and my mind was playing tricks on me. Over all, I'd say that the upgrade fixed that issue for me. Because before, it was A L L the time, and quite maddening.
But, if you did the upgrade as well, and you're still experiencing the problem, perhaps I still have it too and just haven't noticed it.
And Kevin, thanks for the suggestions. I had considered doing the refresh, but since today is still a work day, I didn't want to initiate such a process until my system is free for tinkering with. I'm a little worried about what exactly I will lose, even though I see that the refresh/reset option (for staying with W10) is supposed to save your files. I'm concerned about it not saving things like program settings, or Outlook PST files, etc. = ( All of that would be a pain to reconfigure. If it's just the "apps" that get reset, I don't really care about those, since I don't use the Windows 10 "apps". -
Well wish me good luck. I'm doing a force refresh by formatting the drive and the secondary drive. Hopefully all will go well and I will be up and running in no time.
-
SteckDEV - is there an update to your experience?
-
Yeah everything is up and running and I swapped out my HDD for a SSD in the process. No complaints. I haven't noticed anything wrong with the whole process. Still recovering old work files that I rarely used but other than that I'm glad I took the time for it.
Sent from my LG-D415 using Tapatalk -
Just don't try to RAID0 your ssd's unless you are using win7 pro, fyi. Or it will eat up your hard drive space quickly.
-
why? I'm using it with Windows 10 with no problems so far
-
Same with me. I have started putting most of my apps on SSD and looking great!
You can setup your downloads and other personal files to go to 2nd drive. I understand that it defeats the raid 0 but I plan to only put the heavily used apps on that one.
Sent from my LG-D415 using Tapatalk -
BUT, the ONLY INTEL approved OS for "RAID 0" ssd's is win7 pro. If you DO have SSD's on Win10 AND in RAID 0, then watch your storage space shrink with use. Good luck, you probably don't have them in Raid 0 though AND win10. No speed difference, just shrinking storage space is all you have to worry about - expendable ssd's.
-
Well the 2 m2 sata drives are in raid 0 and then a 1tb SSD not in raid.
Sent from my LG-D415 using Tapatalk -
Source?
-
Intel - I spent what seemed like months specing mine out from this site and my builder. Google it and look at Intel ssd (software) controller. If the SSD is in raid 0 in anything but Win7 pro, it is getting smaller every day. There is a lot on the web but just query the SOURCE, Intel web site. That's what I eventually had to do.
You can be a pioneer and just watch your storage space to see if it is being gobbled up every day you use it. Intel does not waste their time, and a Windows OS this early in the cycle is pretty risky to me if they have only done ONE OS so far. This whole win10 start up has been pretty shady imo.
Just observe your storage space: it's that easy. Then you can tell me. I did not try every OS out w/ssd raid 0. I just trust Intel documentation is correct and updated as required (that's why they are the best - they are picky about details.) And if you think they would go through that rigorous programming for a startup Msft OS, then you bought one so you gambled. I am playing the sure thing on the number one technology innovation going today: ssd raid 0. ymmv -
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
RAID 0 should be fine on other version of Windows.. All MSI that have 2x or more preinstalled will be in RAID 0 and have Windows 8.1/10. There haven't been any issues.
Not saying you are wrong yjacket2001, just that it shouldnt be a concern for RAID 0 for the other guys.SteckDEV likes this. -
Just so long as you are talking about:
"SSD"+ RAID 0 + any OS than Win 7 Pro
You didn't mention SSD which is at the crux of the issue. It will work and work good, but not forever memoryless. You did not supply specifics, so you may not be aware yourself. Do your own due diligence since you are an expert.
And you may be right and Intel documentation wrong, but your explanation did not provide significant evidence either way. I'll go with the power of Intel know-how and Win 7 Pro until convinced o/w (probably to 2020.) Actually OS's is a major reason to do business with custom pc/lnotebook companies, so it is to your benefit for knowledgeable buyers (but they won't buy as many for sure.)Last edited: Sep 3, 2015
