mine had home. There are different configs
-
Yeah, checked the hardware profile again and guess it came with home.

Hey guys, has anyone been able to get the Windows 10 Trackpad Gestures to work? My Elan touchpad is working fine but none of these things work such as clicking with 4 fingers to open action center: http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/18/8247749/windows-10-trackpad-gestures
Also, under Windows 10 Devices and Printers from Control Panel, I see:

Is this normal considering it's not a desktop? -
Hello, my MSI is finally arriving this week. Since I've also moved to China and I'm settling in, I'm just refreshing my whole hardware setup. I've bought some new active speakers from QMS (Chinese OEM brand that makes speakers for the bigger names the audio world) The speakers are truly AMAZING for their money. I was going out to buy the Audioengine A5+ and ended up in this little Chinese audioshop. The guy let me listen to the Audioengine A5+ (which cost ¥3100=$490 in China) and then started to smile and brought out a set of QMS Q5 speakers. They are about the same size as the A5+ and weighed in just as heavy with the same top notch build quality. I was impressed by their build already. Then they started to play.. they (¥2200=$350) just blew the A5+ out of the water on every aspect. The ribbon tweeter of thw Q5 was more open, dynamic, exact and at the same time fun to listen to. Soundstage was better and lows were just tighter and way more filling. I was sold.
Enough about the speakers. They ran on a Matrix Mini-I pro (ESS SABRE 9016) and a Matrix Quattro DAC which are mighty fine products too. Although the pro was a bit to tame for my liking. These two boxes are not cheap coming in at ¥2700=$425 and the Quattro even at ¥4300=$675. As you can see they are more expensive than the speakers themselves. There are other cheaper options especially in China but I want to focus on the sound of the MSI 6QE with the ESS SABRE DAC built in for a bit.
I have found out according to the specs MSI gives us it must be one of these models:
9018Q2M
9018C2M
9018K2M
Which are designed for mobile devices and are inferior to the 9018S and even 9018S that are used in professional and enthousiast level audio equipment including DAC's.
The question is: how much inferior. How well did MSI implement the ESS SABRE 9018xxM in this thin case within this budget.
These speakers are definitely built well enough to hear a difference. Also even though my Audiotechnica ATH-M50X headphones (with shure sh840 pads) are fairly easy to drive, they do pick up inferior sources, like poor headphone amplifiers and DAC solutions.
How much better will a dedicated DAC be and how much do you have to spend to hear a noticeable difference that is worth this expense. If it was a standard Realtek chip I would have already bought a DAC right away. But if I have to spend these amounts of money for only a small improvement or maybe not even an improvement it's probably not even worth it.
I'm so curious what the ESS SABRE can do inside my new beast that in wondering what new 6QE owners think of it themselves.
I cannot find any info about what people think about the quality of the sound chips and implementation in the 6QE. Reviews only talk about the DYNAUDIO speakers that are built in.
Who put the ESS SABRE to the test on a decent speaker or headphone setup and can enlighten me? -
four finger click/swipe doesn't work for me on my 2QE. Elan touchpad only has the option up to three finger swipe.
My GS60 also says:

Have you downloaded all utilities yet? The reason I ask is because when I did, my laptop felt really sluggish on start up (given that all these utilities ran on start up). MSI True Color screen calibration seemed unnatural and unnecessary to me. Nahimic audio gave me issues, made my laptop sound output so low that I had to bump up the volume to 100% to hear audio. Nahimic would also filter my music by applying bass booster and voice clarification and what not, very annoying when trying to listen to raw studio recordings. I was also having issues with Autodesk Maya (3D modeling program), it kept running on my on-board HD4600 and not on my 970m. I had to do a clean install of win10 again. Installed all drivers and few selected utilities (currently only SCM and DGC). Now Autodesk Maya is running under 970m and properly working. I will try download MSI batter calibration and Super charger and see if it throws off any issues with Maya. As for Msi True Color and Nahimic Audio, I don't think these are necessary and I will keep it uninstalled. -
Stupid question, but where are the speakers located in the GS60? My audio comes out from two different areas underneath the laptop, one on the left near the audio jack and one on the right near the USB outlet. I just want to make sure that there isn't suppose to be audio coming out from the gridded vent holes below the power switch (where it says Sound by DYNAUDIO) This image kind of threw me off ( http://www.msi.com/pic/image/nb/gs60/gs60_03.jpg ) it shows there are speakers up there but I don't hear anything from mine lol.
-
two bottom facing where you described and two rear facing at the back edge. Yes, that picture is very misleading. The top holes are intake vents.
-
Thanks for the quick reply, I found the other two speakers you mentioned on the back edge. Just wanted to make sure I had all 4 speakers like advertised instead of just two.
-
Thanks for the replies. I just also noticed my GPU has started to produce very audible coil whine. If I run MSI Kombustor 3, Lakes of Titan, it buzzes quite loudly whenever zooming in and panning over the mountains. Do other people have this issue or is it time for an RMA? Any other advice such as changing drivers?
-
I had coil whine at one point. I RMAed it and haven't had a problem since

Did you overclock your GPU? If yes then set it back to stock speeds.
If not, then submit a RMA request. -
No, it's at stock speeds. Will do..

Hello all,
today my gs60 2QE completely lost power and won't turn on anymore. I was using my laptop perfectly fine last night and shut it down properly, charger was unplugged over night. I came back this morning and pushed the power button. It turned on for a slight second then lost all power and turned off. Now, even if I push the power button it doesn't turn back on. The blue charging indicator works when I plug in my laptop. Not sure what to do from here. Should I contact xoticpc which I purchased from? or should I directly contact MSI and ask for an RMA? So bummed out that my laptop completely died out without any signs of issues.Last edited: Nov 17, 2015 -
You try a hard reset by holding the power for a long time? There's also a method using a small pin which resets the battery I believe. I'm not entirely positive but it's all in the service manual.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, if that does not work then contact your reseller.
-
I tried holding down the power button for 1min. didn't seem like anything happened. Not too sure what this other method is, is the manual online?
Contacted xoticpc. I purchased this laptop jan 2015. hopefully warranty is still active -
Yes, it's online. There's a small hole on the side that resets the power. You can press it with a pin. I had to use it when manually changing EC profiles.
-
that battery reset button didn't do anything. I guess i'll have to wait till xoticpc emails me back.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
Contact MSI directly since your system is still under warranty based on your purchase date.
The issue might be caused by a defective GPU. -
I send an email to xoticpc. I also made an account and sent a technical support ticket to MSI. Hopefully one of them can fix this problem... or better yet hook me up with a new one

I am sure Xotic will take care of you, including MSI.

Hello, I am having problems with Skylake GS60 that the display driver Intel HD stops/crash occasionally when I'm on firefox and I don't know to re-calibrate the battery as it's dying really fast (I have FHD version). I want to fix it before I end up refunding back the laptop back to Amazon.

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Have you made sure your nvidia GPU is not turning on by mistake and you are on power saving/balanced performance.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
How long does it take before the battery runs out?
Can you also post your current BIOS & EC versions? -
I'm always on power saver balance and the battery always dies within an hour but I think you're probably right nvidia gpu turns on with just Firefox browsing. How do I post my current BIOs and EC?

So yesterday I was doing some battery testing by first charging to full then unplugging the laptop and using it normally (no gaming, just web browsing mostly with spotify running) after setting windows to the power saving plan and battery was going down faster than 1% a minute. That's when I realized that the power button led was orange all the time and that orange meant the discrete gpu was being used. I also found out that some sort of candy crush soda saga app was running in the background the entire time and using the gpu, which is weird because I never even installed that and have no idea where it came from. Uninstalling it and restarting now makes the blue led appear so hopefully that helps with battery.
Another thing is after I plugged the laptop back to charge it, I tried running 3dmark and again got the 5600ish score. GPUz showed core clock at the right speed but memory clock was only going up to 792 mhz I think or something close to that. This was also affecting game frame rates so it wasn't just a benchmark thing. The only way I was able to get the memory clock to go back up and to get performance back was after I put the laptop to sleep and immediately woke it up. Is that some sort of bug with the 970m? Throttling maybe? I didn't check the temps but its freezing here where I live at the moment and I wasn't even doing anything intensive before running 3dmark.
EDIT:
Hmm, I was supposed to post this in the owner's lounge thread. Got confused with the 2 threadsLast edited: Nov 25, 2015 -
Your system behaves weirdly.
Some more things to try:
1. Set "maximum performance" mode in Nvidia Control Panel:
2. Try downgrading Nvidia driver to some older versions (make sure to do clean install):
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
3. Clean reset to factory default state (your finding of unwanted application there could indicate something can be messing up your system). If I remember well, there were instructions somewhere in notebook package.
----------------
For what it's worth, on my GS60 GPU-Z shows in sensors tab: GPU core clock at 1037.8 MHz and GPU memory clock at 1252.8 MHz.
I do run always with all settings preferring maximum performance, turning off anything power-saving I can find, always on Nvidia GPU (always plugged-in, never on battery, never had any performance issues). -
Georald Camposano Notebook Enthusiast
When I'm able to get the right fire strike scores for a gs60, that's the reading I get too with GPU-Z, else I get the low memory clock speed. The need for me to make it sleep then have it wake up after playing around unplugging/plugging the laptop to get full speed (I haven't tested this fully yet to know if this would always be the case) almost makes it sound like a Dell XPS 15 bug I've been reading about, where the CPU stays capped when switching from batter to AC power and that a restart or a sleep/resume is the only way to get it back up (though in my case, it looks more like the GPU gets capped and a restart doesn't help it run full speed)
I've only had this for 2 days and everything came from a fresh windows setup. I did a bit of reading on this and I think windows 10 might come pre-installed with Candy Crush? That would be pretty terrible on Microsoft's part if you ask me.Last edited: Nov 25, 2015 -
Can confirm Candy Crush comes with Win10 Home
edit: I got Win10 Pro and it didn't come with it -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
That's just a driver setting, open the nvidia control panel and manually choose firefox to use the IGP. -
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
FYI, you can run Bluestacks and then have Candy Crush.

Hey I managed to fix the problems problem and thinking about upgrading the m.2 ssd, would Samsung 850 would work or only 950 would work? I want 500gb for m.2 ssd since there's only one slot.
-
Either will work. I use an a 1 tb 850
-
Okay good, there was a sale on 500 gb that I want upgrade on my Skylake msi ghost pro. I was just worried it might not work since Skylake is brand new. Would there be speed differences between 850 vs 951*
-
I'm sure the 951 is faster, but if you ask me very few people can probably tell the difference in terms of actual performance. There are enough reviews out there if you want to get the actual benchmark numbers to compare.

Okay so i'm new, but ive got a few qeustions!
i'm looking to buy the model "MSI GS60 6QE 029" here's a link to the store :
http://www.wehkamp.nl/Zoeken/ArtikelDetail.aspx?ArtikelNummer=625035&Ntt=msi gs60&PI=0&PrI=0&Nrpp=96&Blocks=0&View=Grid
ive got two qeustions, when gaming, and using 1080p for increased performance, does it look blurry? and does it still need more performance as i'd use the 1080p version of the laptop and game at 1080p instead?
secondly, between this laptop and the "GS70 6QE 012" listed on this website which of the two is more silent :
http://www.wehkamp.nl/elektronica/l...inch-laptop/C26_6F4_F5C_625031/?MediumCode=86
thanks for awnsering my qeustions, since both laptops are kind of pricy i do kinda want the one i like best, the qeustions i just asked are mostly deciding factors for me.Last edited: Dec 1, 2015 -

Hi guys, I'm new here and I want to upgrade the SSD of my GS-60 laptop.
I own the GS60 Ghost Pro 3k-097. It has one 1TB HDD and two 128GB m2SATA Raid0 SSD.
Xmas is coming soon and there are crazy SSD deals in my country (France). I was wondering if it is possible to replace the 1TB HDD with a 2"5, SATA 3, 7mm thick SSD? You can find the product here: http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00172878.html . Tomorrow, the price will drop to 119 euros. I apologize for the website being in French, but if you scroll down a little, you should be able to read the specs. From what I read on the internet, the original HDD is 2"5.
Second question, provided I can swap the 2"5 original HDD with this SSD, will I still be able to use the other SSDs in my laptop (the m2sata ones)?
My setup would look like this if the upgrade is possible:
Primary drive: 2"5 480gb SSD hooked via SATA3
Secondary drive: 2x 128gb m2sata raid0 SSD
Total storage would theoretically be 608gb, with two distinct hard drives.
Thank you experts, and sorry if this is a noob question, I'd rather ask first than pull the trigger on that SSD and then cry cause I can't upgrade my laptop
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes, you can configure it how you have described without issue.
-
Awesome, thanks Meaker for your fast reply -- pulled the trigger for that 480gb sandisk SSD for 114 euros. Looking forward to dual booting linux and win10 with that setup
-
I can confirm this on my 4K GS60 Skylake. Is there anything that can be done? Even in Google Maps, the yellow roads are too dark. Bah!
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
You could go in to the display settings, and do color calibration, to see if you can change the color a bit. Might not be able to get rid of all of the tint, but at least make it to a point that you like it better.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You can also get colorimeters that will do the best possible job of calibrating the display. 2nd hand ones can be had for not too much off ebay.
-
I have a Spyder 3D so I did a calibration - same result; yellow stays mustard. Seems the panel is made that way. (4K 6QE)
-
As far as I know the problem with the yellows is a hardware issue that is something to do with the panel having yellow pixels as well as RGB.
I'm not sure if hardware calibration devices could even detect the issue because I thought they only check the red, green and blue values. -
I'm starting to look at another MSI Ghost purchase. I've been trying to compare specs across the different GS60 models. I'm really looking for something that shows all the system specs. Something more technical than just amount of RAM, CPU type and speed, etc. For example, MSI's website and the MSI resellers don't list how many M.2 SSD slots are on a system. Does anyone know where I might find a current PDF that lists that kind of detail in a spreadsheet type format or similar where all the info is on the same page for comparison?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You old try manually calibrating it through the windows colour options.
-
Hi community!
I faced some troubles, hope you can help me.
I have MSI GS60 PE Ghost Pro 3k and I want to replace a VVX16T029D00 matrix on some FullHD matrix. But I didn't find an appropriate replacement. Maybe you can advice something? Also could anybody clarify the correct connector type that VVX16T029D00 have?
Thanks in advance to all! -
Hey community, any one upgraded to 32gb of ram in there gs60. if so what are yor thoughts would you recommend an upgrade?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you need the extra ram then it's worth it, if not then it wont gain you anything.
