    MSI GS70 2OD-002US Intel Core i7 16GB Memory 17.3" Notebook - Newegg.com

^^ this it the version i purchased in january, works awesome.

have a couple questions i'm having a hard time finding answers to.

1.) the sound from the speakers is kinda meh, actually and it almost sounds as if only one speaker is working, and i'm not sure if i believe the sub-woofer is working -- is there a way to test this?
2.) is there room inside the case for an extra HD? was thinking of throwing another SSD in there.

    many thanks in advance !!

Battery life on power saver lasted me about 5/6 hours. It does get hot around the gpu and near the left to the touchpad area. I'll be making a video about it so look out for that

Hey emmagine, who did you order your laptop from? I had no idea they were even shipping these yet.

Also, can you show us what temps are like for the 870m and CPU? Thanks!

Nice video! Now makes me want one. Just need to know thermals, fan noise, and performance of course. Battery life sounds pretty good too.

Also what is the PSU rating? 19V @ 120W? If so the 120W concerns me as enough to drive that CPU and GPU when it's barely enough to drive the i7-4700MQ and GTX 765m and the 675m must draw at least 25W more power not to mention three mSATA's plus HDD.

edit: XoticPC shows 120W PSU, but MSI site shows 150W PSU. 150W will probably limit it a bit. As long as the connector is fairly common, there should be plenty of 180W PSU's out there.

Which is it? Can one of the resellers answer this question?

    Does the system/gs70 2014, come with a 120watt or 150 watt brick?

my friend previously owned a GS70 765m with IC daimond paste

At first he bought for a few months , the temperature is quite good. Gaming / furmark mostly only max out at 75c - 80c even on max load

But once the dust get inside , the temps rose up to 95c

This notebook need to be clean to get cool

otherwise you can make a nitrogen board

Look for ones with the lowest code after the 2PE tag. Each country seems to have different lowest codes. For example, the US model, the one you're referring to is code named as MSI GS70 StealthPro 2 PE- 001US. If I remember correctly, the previous' top version of this line up was MSI GS70 StealthPro 2 OD- 001US. Right now the ones available (in-stock) in my amazon site is 010US, which doesn't have the higher spec'ed HDD (only 5400 rpm, old tech) and also only one 128GB SSD. I'm waiting for the 001US model.

Wow the bending out of the top border around the LCD is awful, look at the shadow it has over the screen near the start 1:30..... total turn off as to the quality of the build....and that isnt because of the light angle either, that is the casing bending out from the screen..

Can I purchase the basic model (with a 1TB HD) and later upgrade with 3 mSATA SSDs? Also, will it retain the Super RAID 2 functionality or is that hardcoded from the factory?

This is full review by a Korean laptop reviewer. I'll summarize some key points (benchmarks rather).

    League of Legends
    59-81fps

    Starcraft II
    91-154 fps

    Bioshock: Infinite
    58-78 fps

    3D Mark 2013 (Cloud Gate)

I think the drivers are not yet optimized resulting in this score.

In terms of temperatures, there are no values given except that it gets "substantially hot" at the rear bottom.

    Well,

After much thinking I have decided to go for the GS70 Stealth Pro, should get it delivered tomorrow so I can play over the weekend.

Thinking I may have to run it in different modes with the heat that the 870m is likely to generate...

Desktop mode = Everything going as fast a possible up to the limits of the internal temperatures
Laptop mode = for sitting on the couch, add some temperature throttling to keep the outside temperature of the laptop cool enough so I can have it comfortably on my lap.
Battery mode = for traveling, use Nvidia's battery boost, which I hope will also limit the temperature.

Going to be interesting to see how the 870m works in this body!

Yeah 87C with 3DMark11. Even with a repaste, it may help a few deg C, but in that thin chassis, it's still going to get hot. I also noticed that at the vents the heat coming out was in the mid to upper 60C's. That's dang hot air blowing on you. Imagine now, the 870m in the Blade 14 which is even smaller yet (and costs more). 860m I think is the perfect fit for one of these machines.

No, the 870m is not powerful enough to use 6G of VRAM.

Probably won't do any fancy reviews, but will comment back on heat etc seeing as people seem to be asking about that the most.

    Hi all,

I would like to summary my feelings about my new laptop, the MSI GS70 Stealth Pro...

I received the laptop yesterday afternoon (ordered from scan.co.uk). It was on a price of 1400 pounds. I was hesitant because I wanted to have a macbook pro retina quality, but I also wanted to have prower to play at least diablo 3 on its screen. It is well known that the macbook pro with retina and GTX750m is for gaming, my previous laptop (Sony E14) was compared to that 2100 pounds machine in gaming performance that is a shame.

I opened the MSI box and i noticed that they included an MSI slave (cover). It has a robust quality, but is not fabriqued from the highest quality materials. We will see its durability :)
The PC came in a really nicely made black-red box. After opening it I observed that the this gaming computer is extremely slim compared to its competitors! My friend has an MSI GT70 and he can have WOW effect by showing it to a usual people: ''WOW it is soo thick and heavy''. The MSI GS70 stealth pro is a 17 inch laptop with a thicknes of ~2.5cm all along the computer. I also noticed that the comouter is not heavy at all! has a large length and width because it is a 17 inch one, but it is light weight and thin!
After opening the screen, i felt that the quality of this machine cannot be compared to my previous one (sony vaio E14). Full aluminium body and it feel very robust to me!

    Gaming:
Usually I play Diablo 3 and some other ty games :) The first thing was to try the MSI GS70's performance in Diablo 3. All full, 1080p I got ~130 FPS, sometimes it went down to 90 in huge combats. I would like to highlight that my firend just bought a brand new R7 260x desktop computer VGA and he has lower FPS than me. This machine must be able to handle everythin with getting more than 30-40 FPS... If the game is unoptimised yet, you can get rid of some special settings to get back to 60... :p Hopefully i will not see any game that will not be playable on such machine.

    Temperature:
It has a doggy colling system (for me) because a portion of the fresh air enters the machine near the keyboard. For usual use the computer is silent and does not make much noise. When I started to play I monitored the heat of the CPU and GPU. after 2 hours of D3 on full settings it never reached the 65 degree celsius. The max that I got with other games was 75C. With the increase of the usage you will observe that the fans get quicker, but it was not loud as the sony vaio E14 on full load... the fan is not disturbing for me, it has a good tone. For such a thin machine it is unbelievable :)

So far no problem observed, so I am a happy customer. The battery charger is very thin as well (my fiend has a 17 inch DELL and it came with a REAL BRICK....). The screen is nice, much better thna what I had, but of course not a retina screen quality. Although I do not mind that I went for a 17 inch machine, because the 1080p resolution on 17 inch is enough and gives a large working area while the text are still readable! The colours are right as well in my case (I also obtain an external screen for photo editing; this is how i compared it).

The only drwaback is the bloody Windows 8.1... I am completely lost, I used Windows 7 or older in my entire life... It is a pain in my ... I may decide to reinstal the computer to get back my well known win 7 :)

If you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask me here in the forum!

    Bence

    That sounds very encouraging expig.

Mines waiting for me at home, can't get to it due to work!! I ordered from scan like you. Quick thanks to both scan and overclockers in the UK, both companies very helpful, Overclockers for taking my initial pre-order and then cancelling with no problems when others had the stealth pro in stock. And Scan for a very efficient telephone order and excellent delivery allowing me to track it by the minute up until it was delivered.

Now just need to get home to try it out...

Yes that is what I thought but the GS70 have a smaller chassis and have a gtx870 is that at the end the GE70 with gtx860 and a larger chassis would be lower temps ?

    8. Do you find the feet are sticky enough and do they both you when you pick it up to move it around?

    9. Trackpad feelings? Also mention what other trackpad you might have liked or hated.

Thanks in advance for any feedback and I am so excited to get this laptop for my next work hardware refresh!

I'm leaving Melbourne today and came very close to buyingone of tthese today. After tax back I could get the pro version with 2 year warranty rucksack and gaming headset with 7200rpm 1tb drive and x3 120gn ssd's for £1460.

Decided to give it a miss for a few reasons. It was a bit bigger than I was expecting (going for gs60 now) and the US keyboard put me off a bit.

    Hi everyone,

thank you for all the information that you put together in this thread. I am also one of MSIs potential customers for the GS70 Pro with the GTX870m. =)

There are two pices of information I am still lacking - maybe some owner can help me:
    1. How are the temperatures of the device during gaming sessions? My concern is, that the place the wrists are located might get uncomfortable hot... ;)
    2. Very special, but maybe someone knows: Do all configurations of the device offer the 3 mSATA slots? I am thinking of purchasing the cheapest version without SSDs and upgrading it with three 256GB mSATA-SSDs...

I any case I am looking forward to any new info posted on this beautiful device. There is also a video I would like to share with you - I guess some of it may like the information given there:
    MSI GS70-2PE - YouTube

    Happy hunting,
    Grunzer
