Just wondering what the screen quality of this is....Long time Alienware user ready to make the switch to a thinner, lighter PC, but I do like a high quality screen....

Hi guys! I came back to share my thoughts again (after using it for a couple of days). Basically, I am impressed by its quality. The quality of the screen is nice, since it does not differ much from my IPS DELL screen. It is sharp and covered by an anti-reflective layer. To be honest I prefer matt screens since I had soo much pain caused by the glare.. The colors are vivid and the screen has a great angle of view.
Temperature under heavy load: The laptop gets hot under very heavy gaming load... After 2 hours of play I felt that the computer is hot under my hand (near the wasd buttons) I touched the top left of the computer casing and it was bloody hot. I cannot argue with this, because a slim gaming notebook will never be cool like a macbook during internet searching..... If the computer does not die, it is fine for me! I also installed my Adobe lightroom, and it is super-fast compared to my previous laptop. The colours are great as well!
Cheers, Bence -
Hi expig,
It's possible to test the temp with Hwmonitor please : CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting -
Microcenter has the Stealth pro for sale..

Hello expig,
Thank you for sharing your experience with this fabulous machine!
Can you tell me how is the battery life when you are just surfing the web, writing some docx, watching just a few youtube clips, etc?
In this kind of light use, how is the noise? Would you consider silent as a MacBook for instance?
Thank you in advance.
Best regards -
I've had mine for over a week now, I got mine from MSI GS70 StealthPro-024 17.3" Full HD Gaming Notebook Computer GS70 STEALTHPRO-024.
However I love the power and beauty of this laptop. If anyone has any specific questions towards me, I can make videos or anything you want. Just shoot me a PM.
On powersaving mode with screen all the way down, just web browsing i only get about 2 hours of battery. Not even close to 4-5 like others say. -

finally i can also order now on in my country, (they popped up in many stores now). Its the 128+1TB version so i want to order 3x250GB (samsung evo) right away.
But now the question is, is it still really mSata? or is it M.2 ?
(in M.2 there are not that many choices yet) -

I was wondering if either XoticPC or GentechPC plan on carrying the GS70 StealthPro-024 model? I saw the GS70 with the 870m, however it's the more expensive model with the 6GB 870m and 3 SSD's.

Anyone who have already the gs70 can put the temperature of the cpu / gpu on game and on surfing with Hwmonitor please : CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

MSI announcement:
MSI Announce GS70 Stealth Pro Laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M | techPowerUp -
I'm sure it was open before, or in another pic on the regular MSI product page. It's possible that they changed the specs over the past couple of weeks.
EDIT: Looks like they most likely changed the specs since the rep filmed that original product video. I found this elsewhere in this thread on the MSI Dragon Army forum:

I'm sooooo screwed! !!! I ordered this machine last weekend... major buying point was the 3+1 monitors, already shipped and cant do a return as my sister in law will be in ny and bring it back to me (I live in dominican republic and this was a one shot operation
...) no turning back! I just hate last minute changes, I did my homework but failed miserably at the end.
Go figure! >:,(

MSI get around the limitation of the HD4000 series by attaching ports straight to the dGPU, therefore you can add extra outputs. This also means that those ports do not use optimus which is great if you need to use professional software that does not get on with it, you would likely be using a nice big external display for that work anyway.

I really wish someone comes with a hack, I bought mine for that single reason... aorus x7 does 3+1, I Went with the gs70 because is a single card laptop but I'm starting to regret my choice.

Right, forgot to reply with temps etc before
so on with. Just for informative reasons so your temps may vary a little, my room temp is currently 27 (stupid sun/good insulation)
I tried a variety of games, some stress one part, some others (no synthetics because they do not show real world usage). stuff from World of tanks/diablo 3 to Thief.
GPU, this can and will hit 90C when hard pressed, nothing one can do about that but the cooling works well enough, you can see the temp drop drastically once you stop gaming and within 20 seconds (apart from the case) the temps will be back down to normal.
I've not seen it go above 90 yet though, it may well do but during my longest session I forgot to check.
The case does get hot, for me I can still touch it, however do not touch the exhaust ports right after finishing your session, most people will probably find this too hot. The left hand area gets warmer then the right hand side (gpu/cpu locations), so the warmth creeps down on the left side, but it's not excessive (my opinion).
The fans turn off when idle (assuming nothings hot!) so the CPU idles around 45/50C due to this, you can probably get an after market product to make the fan always spin - I personally don't see the point. Under light use the fans will spin at about 3000 RPM which is barely noticeable noise wise. Imagine a soft breeze in the summer.
yes it makes noise when gaming, but thats what headsets are for
Now I'm actually going on holiday, however if anyone has anything specific they want me to check let me know and I'll try and get it done over te holiday - but I'm not promising jack -
Were you able to correct this issue on your laptop? -
I got the same error too and couldn't solve it with reinstalling of original drivers, beta drivers and update of directx12. Always crashes in 3dmark 11. Cant survive further than the 3rd benchmark.
Saw on MSI forum that someone had the same problem as me and the administrator suggested a return.
I returned it to my local retailer. Luckily they had a new set for me to exchange. Out of the box installed 3dmark11 and it crashed before reaching first scene..... laptop wasnt plugged in. After plugging in the power adopter, 3dmark11 ran smoothly all the way to the end!
Brought it back and stress tested it, looped benchmarks for an hour. Played games for 2hrs. no issues so far.... Happy man.
So your best bet is to return it and get a replacement.
And is 3dmark11 only able to work when plugging into power? -
Can anyone confirm what Wifi card is installed and whether it supports ac please?
Local suppliers seem to be fuzzy on the subject.
thanks.

What concerns me about you experience is that it needs to be plugged in to function properly. Not that I will be gaming with this laptop on my lap while using the battery, but it indicates that there may be a design issue. The laptop should be able to run correctly using only the battery.
-
You can't really game on battery, it'll eat it up in no time, no matter what kind of laptop with dedicated graphics we're talking about. Usually, unplugged means the system will do it's best to keep the power draw to a minimum, and a battery can only do so much, and that gives bad performance at the least, and may easily crash the game. Or benchmark. One can even argue that the 150W power brick that comes with the laptop is really borderline to feed that system properly. Start Prime and Unigine at the same time, and it will be running overload... bad things will follow.
Just got mine, btw. Will post soon with my assessment of that thing!arkham likes this. -

Lol... First impression : very thoughtful from MSI to include this nice Utilities CD with THIS particular model...
They'll knock it out of the park when they'll include a thumbdrive instead. Which I'll format just about instantly, after a quick browse.
The rest of the package is just... about perfect. -
Can someone who has the Stealth Pro post a 3D Mark Vantage result screenshot? Would be helpful to compare to a few other models.

But now you can help even more . In the GS60 thread I just found out the Stealth Pro does not have the good IPS-like display, but a basic TN screen. Can you confirm this? What is the other screen option you guys offer technology-wise?
If the Ghost Pro has the better display, I'm going to have to do some soul searching. Damn. I thought this was clinched. -

Closing up the office right now, but tomorrow once we're back in I'll see if HWInfo will pick up the screen installed and let you know the make/model.arkham likes this. -
You might find this interesting. A comparison of the Stealth Pro vs the newest Ghost, released a day ago.
MSI GS60 Ghost and GS70 Stealth Pro Gaming Laptops - YouTube
About half way through, he mentions that both use the IPS display at about 2:40 mark.
I would also like to see the make/model on the Xoticpc upgrades...since I have one on pre-order from them.arkham likes this. -
Edit: Ah-ha, I saw that earlier today. Not sure I take that as gospel, but what did sound interesting was the bit about the GS60'S display interface. I have no idea about what he was hinting, but at least this is one more nod towards the 70 having the good screen.
Aw hell, who knows. GENTECH, XOTIC someone help figure this out please. -
Also possible they source different screens like Dell, but I'd be surprised if they sourced both TN and IPS screens.

I'm in Canada, so no Microcenters here. Everywhere that sells a GS70/GS60 does so on special order or online only.
I'll just have to wait and see. -
I'm in Canada too btw. Ordered on NCIX for it was readily available to ship. Could have saved about 80$ going through CanadaComputers as they offer a somewhat 75$ shipping discount, but they're taking orders for the moment. I'm not a patient guy.. -

I'd hate to go for the GS60 Ghost Pro because I need 3 external screen output! But I guess USB 3.0 Display adapter is the better of the two evils in this case. Plus with the mentioned 870M atleast I don't have to compromise on the graphics.
BTW does the GS60 Ghost Pro have better cooling since it has 4 places to output air according that youtube video mentioned (I didn't know if gs70 Pro had that)? -

What makes it "real" is licensing for the term IPS which is owned by LG. These screens could be the exact same quality and using similar technology but since they do not want to pay for the licensing cost to use "IPS" they will call it something different.
We haven't seen any IPS screens in 17.3" yet regardless of the brand of computer, just 15.6"hfm likes this. -
