There are just 3 mSata slots ... not 4... so you will have to replace also HDD and then I dont know if Raid 0 supports mSata slots with basic Sata3 slot...

why not those connections in laptop has nothing to do.. it is still SATA interface goes in chipset.. no matter the style of connector.. they only making things connections small as possible..

this is my current setup in my acer V7 look on the right what is there so that I will put into gs70 ;)
am messing with these things so am bit creative .. i like doing this not playing games..
but unfortunately I cannot create raid 0 .. this laptop supports only intel cache raid which is combined with msata ssd and normal hdd ... or hybrid hdd ssd chips inside

If you use an adapter/enclosure and put a SSD where the typical mechanical hard drive is, then sure, you can do a RAID0 array with 4 drives; I guess that would be super *SUPER* RAID. LOL . Personally, 1.5tb with three mSATA drives is fine for me ... the mechanical drive is for essential imaging/backup ..

Play BF4 all day long. Even if your machine throttles, you won't notice it unless you are looking for it. I don't have BF4 and so I can't do your temp test ... but I wouldn't worry about temps. Even with a 30c ambient ... any computer you use in that sort of environment will most likely throttle .. but it will just be a couple frames a second that you lose ...

Can't say enough about the Stealth Pro .. great machine ...

How solid is the keyboard regarding keyboard flex? I'm planning on ordering one this Friday, and I just want to be sure the keyboard is good. :) Also, how is the keyboard regarding brightness?

The keyboard is ace. No worries. And I am a keyboard freak . No flex. Decent, tactile play. Way better than the Gigabyte P35 I had previously. The backlighting is decent .. needs to be on it's highest setting though. But overall? A seriously good keyboard.

For the temperature minded folks ..

Just did another full 3DMark Suite run ... *25C* ambient room temps ... max GPU temp was 83C ...

Wah, you did it with a cooling pad? The temp is amazing, could be fine with my 30c ambient.
I love the thinness yes, but i'm not quite sure due to the temp and having to give up the 980m. Just so hard a decision damnit.

If you order through a re seller, then sure, go ahead and let them re paste the GPU/CPU ... doing it your self is a HUGE pain as you basically have to remove the whole motherboard ...

I'm using the stock thermal compound and temps are fine ...

Wifi is excellent btw. Full strength (4-5 bars) and virtually identical speeds to a wired connection with no drops. Achieved c. 20m away through three interior walls (modern house so just plasterboard and timber) a floor and a staircase. Pity I can't get fibre - been downloading for about 24 hours now and only managed about 75GB.

Hi Guys really Interested in this laptop. I’ve been doing research for a good few weeks and keep going back and forth. Heard some scary things about MSI customer service and some shoddy build quality. Was wondering how things have been for you guys? Been interested in gaming for a while but my HP Envy dv7t won’t do that with the built in Intel graphics so was looking for a good gaming laptop that’s thin. I don’t like the look of those thick ASUS laptops. I also love the color keyboard on the msi.

I’m in college I carry my laptop to school every day and I walk lol so mobility is really key for me. My laptop is also my primary machine since I don’t have am modern desktop so I would like it to be as powerful as possible. I do dabble in some video editing and Photoshop. SO the MSI GS70 stealth pro seems perfect for me. It was that or the Aorus X7 Pro V3. I have been reading that SLI machines still have problems so it’s better to go with machines with single gpu.

So I started at the beginning of this thread and saw concerns over heat and other modifications that had to be done to the machine to cool it down. Does this still need to be done for the new model with the 970m? Is extreme heat still a problem? The only games I will probably play are COD and maybe a few Naruto games. But I am trying to expand on Gaming so don’t want to limit myself. Thanks for all the help.

Was looking at this PC : XOTIC PC | MSI GS70 Stealth Pro-065 - 17.3" Ultra Thin Gaming Notebook - GTX 970

Just a heads up for any Stealth owners planning to do any work inside the case...

Lost screws are a pain in the and I personally didn't have a work bench/tray to work in but found the MSI box lid works fantastic ... even has a bit of foam to put the machine on ...

I never really considered the Asus g751, my dilemma was between the gs70 and the p35x v3. However after falling the p35x forum and seeing the heat issues for the Cpu (not GPU even though it was hot) I decided to go with the gs70. My thinking was it runs cooler, has a solid keyboard, plenty or storage and I don't think I will be running games higher than 1080p so 3k monitor not an issue. I was stuck between the 17" and 15" gs60, but had to go for the 17" as it came with 2 x 256gb ssd and was in Red! Would have loved the 980m, but I can compromise on that as I have a desktop and Xbox one for longer gaming session, wanted a laptop that was portable, could run multiple virtual machines and play games when needed.

Any mSATA drive will work. Just depends on what brand you want to use and what size .. but all mSATA drives are compatible ...

    And yes .... I use 3 512gb Crucial M550's ... so far they've worked very well ...

Little update on my own Stealth Pro experience ...

About four days in to use and when using the machine under very specific lighting conditions, I noticed a weird, whitish, hazy sort of "stain" under the LCD surface. It was totally invisible when in use and only visible on a black background (especially when the machine was powered off). Here's a pic showing the strange LCD :

    stealth.mall.jpg

    ...

So I sent that back to Amazon and immediately ordered another identical until...

Yesterday this new unit came in and I successfully plugged my three RAID0 drives in and the machine booted right up with my Windows 7 install working perfectly ...

But now there's another minor minor problem ...

As another user mentioned here a bit back in this thread, the onboard speakers are not functioning correctly ...

Sound is only coming out of the "subwoofer at the bottom right, whereas what MSI (in their documentation) calls the "soundbar" at the top center is emmitting no sound whatsoever ... believe it or not, the sound (for onboard laptop) is still quite decent .. just not quite as loud as when all the speakers are working (the little sub still puts out really decent highs, believe it or not).

Sound when listening via headphones or external speakers is perfect (like the other user here mentioned) ...

Honestly, I can't remember any time I've used onboard laptop speakers since every laptop I've had has had just abysmal sound ... like generally not even listenable, so I've always used desktop speakers at work or headphones. So I'm completely torn regarding again going through the refund/re order process...

Otherwise, machine has been perfect (no screen error in this one) ...

    Just a little update ...

Update number 2 on that speaker issue discussed above ...

On a whim, I opened the machine up this morning and it took about 5 seconds to see this big fat connector that had come loose from the mother board; I followed the lead back and sure enough, it was the "soundbar" center speakers connector:

    ...

    speaker.jpg

    ...

I re attached the connector and when I turned the computer back on, all the speakers worked just fine.

    So stoked.

Just another FYI should anyone else (like another user just back a bit in this thread) have the same issue...

Lol nice find, but isn't open it up will make u lose the waranty?

Oh and is the fan noise bothering you? Some said it sounds like a jet engine while gaming.

Would you please read my previous post and give me your opinion. Thanks

    Re: warranty ...

I would say no ... as breaking that sticker is required simply to upgrade.

Further, I've heard from very reputable folks associated with certain companies that provide custom configured lap tops that MSI will still warranty service laptops that have had the sticker removed or broken. This person told me, "MSI will still warranty the laptop; the sticker is more a deterrent than anything else."

I would be inclined to believe this, too. MSI must surely understand that most users will want to upgrade their machines somewhere down the line, even if it's something so simple as replacing a hard drive (I mean, equipment eventually fails and some times sooner than later)...

So I'm not really sweating the whole "void if tampered" sticker...

    RE: fan noise?

No, it doesn't bother me a bit, even when it's approaching it's maximum speed ... it's not a very bothersome fan noise ... no whine or hum or otherwise tone that would offend, just a light "swoosh" sound ... further, I always wear headphones when gaming or really most all the time ...

Also, when just browsing the web and doing tasks such as using word processors or watching a video, the fans hardly ramp up at all. The Nvidia "Optimus" tech is truly effective ... my Nvidia card is never used unless I'm gaming. Otherwise, it's always the built in CPU's video processor ...

    Hope that helps...

I should have qualified that with the same sort of statement... thanks for clarifying ...

Sort of what I was getting at with "I would be inclined to believe this..." ... which of course would be to imply that whether you believe that sort of statement or not is totally up to you and shouldn't be considered "official" ...

Also why it would be totally lacking social tact to name names regarding such off handed comments ...

    Thanks again...

A question for all of you:

Is it possible to manually adjust the fan speeds on the MSI G70 Stealth Pro? Sort like you can on their larger Dominator machine?

When gaming, I'd much rather manually just set the fan speeds to something like "Turbo" or "High" instead of using the built in fan speed profiles...

Thanks in advance for any information,

To me, it came down to weight. About 5lb vs 10lb+ when you consider the power supply! Currently have an Asus G73 which the MSI GS70 will replace. I've been carrying that beast around for close to three years and had enough of that.I knew part of the price premium is due to the slim factor but being lighter is what finally did it.

    Good luck with your decision.

    1. You can use tools created by other users that allows on-the-fly fan speed adjustment.
    2. Or you can use Svet's tool to modify EC firmware to settings you want, and flash it onto your notebook.

We always pay a bit more in the UK, but I can't complain as the extras I got with it are a bonus, plus got a good looking msi backpack too, so I am happy. Just running the setup now, will be be gaming this weekend to put it through its paces. Boots up super quick.

Does anyone perhaps has experience in playing Skyrim on this laptop?
How is the fan noise, when playing this game? Although it's not a new game, I'm hoping the fan wouldn't be on full speed.

    Thanks for your help.

You could use the fps score for Skyrim for the graphics card on notebookcheck - high numbers would suggest it will have no problem and be quiet. Low numbers and it may struggle..?

Haven't had much time to play about with it but from running the windows updates and a few 3dmark runs last night, the fans can get a bit loud. Don't really understand the different profiles (sport, comfort and energy saver me thinks) so will experiment with them. Did download a gt72 fan control app yesterday so will have a play around with that tonight. One of the benchmark runs the GPU did hit 84°c and fans were loud. Also installed avast and for some reason one of its components was constantly running and so fan above cpu was constantly engaged. Uninstalled and silence once more.

I finally got my GS70 from Amazon UK, looking forward to spend some time getting familiar with it. So far I've found the energy profiles horribly confusing. Not only there's the three Shift modes (sport, comfort, green), there's also an Eco mode and a High-Performance button on the Gaming Center (plus the standard Windows energy modes). Not sure what each of those do and how they interact yet.

I've finally done it, guys. After being burned by Alienware with no update, watching and reading as many reviews as possible, I've put my order in with XoticPC for a GS70 Stealth Pro-099 model with an IC Diamond thermal compound upgrade. The last leg of waiting has begun, and I'm gonna go distract myself with Draenor now. :)

Haven't had chance to check myself, but you can see the amount of power being used at any given time in msi gaming centre (or dragon centre or whatever). Switching between the different profiles and eco setting etc might help determine which one is in control/using more power? You'd probably only have to do 3x2x2 different options to get the answer. I've had mine in green mode since purchase as haven't fired up any games yet. Fans occasionally spin up, but otherwise cool and quiet...
