OMGosh! LOL! A monster has been created here. Are we over thinking things a bit? I knew someone would have to come up a db level comparison. I was waiting for this. :D

Also, the 'hair blower' reference AlwaysSearching replied to, was a generalized statement I made in an earlier post...... and certainly was not intended to imply a 75db sound level. GEEZ, I've had my chuckle for the day!

    Backpeddling FTW.

Remember, we have people reading who rely on the forum's consensus to help them make decisions.

Too often people lose track of what numbers really mean and get lost in making numbers higher or lower without regard for what those numbers mean.

The whole comparison of "hair blower" was quite literally making a mountain out of a mole-hill. I am hoping we can eliminate this kind of thing here and remain a stop for level-headed advice. :)

I have the same problem here at work with our users complaining about "lugging" around their 4.56 lb Dell Latitude when they could have a 4.46 lb Macbook. Because that 0.1 lb difference is really breaking their backs...

Striker has a long history of making up stuff. Hey striker, have you actually bought a system yet? I remember a few years ago you were making a big deal out of Asus notebooks and then didn't end up buying anything.

LOL! Obviously the Joker is trying to get me riled, and certainly isn't looking to win any favor here. Joker, suppose you explain the troll-like attack. What is the point in all this?

Speaking of Asus, I guess you forgot THIS..... and as to MSI, I guess you have never followed THIS thread either.

Soooooooo Joker, aside from personal attacks, what brings you out of your Alienware hole? It's interesting you are visiting an MSI thread. You want one, don't you?

    Geez!

LOL congrats Striker, glad you finally bought something! :) I was using tapatalk btw so I couldn't see your sig. until now. MSI are nice laptops, I've got no complaints about them. I might actually pick up a few MSI 680Ms in the future.

Judging from the immediately reply, obviously you were waiting for my response. LOL!

Finally bought something? Did you bother to look at my Asus link? Anyhow, I am not sure of the purpose in your post, but good luck with those MSI 680Ms.

Long time no see, it has been many years. :)

This will be his 4th laptop he bought in 1 year, he first got a MSI GT780R with GTX570M but gave it to his wife and got himself a newer GT783 with GTX580M, a Asus N53SM for his daughter and his new GT70-0ND-276US will be ship sometimes next week by overnight shipping. :)

Hmmmmm...... lemme see here...... if my memory is correct, I think it was six within a year. Right? I dunno..... you have the invoices, LOL!

    1,) Asus N53 (daughter's)
    2.) MSI GT780R w/560M (sold)
    3.) MSI GT780DXR w/570M (sold)
    4.) MSI GT783R w/580M (current notebook)
    5.) MSI GT780DX w/570M (wife's xmas)
    6.) MSI GT70 0NE w/680M (pre-ordered)

Anyhow, this is too funny, and I wasn't going to go into any of that here with the Joker...... but if he continues the personal attacks, I'll send up the Bat signal..... but thanks for looking out for me Ken. What got me is he said, " I remember a few years ago you were making a big deal out of Asus notebooks and then didn't end up buying anything". I guess he forgot the Asus W90Vp, and this was in the timeframe he mentioned.

I don't know what's gotten into him, but I figure for him to be trolling and pick'in a fight, he must want one of these MSI 680M notebooks REAL bad.

    yeah I forgot about the GT780R w/560M, you forgot your son's G74SX too. :D

W90VP was having PCB issues to begin with back in 2009 and Asus couldn't solve it so they discontinued the product.

G73JH was having vBIOS issue that users can't update drivers from AMD, if user update drivers they got GSOD problem. also the temperature issue of 110 degree C and split screen issues so you don't want it.

Asus did finally fixed the vBIOS issue with G73JH but not the temperature issue, it's is pretty much no way for end-users to get access to the video card and apply IC-Diamond unless they have very good experience to completely disassemble a Asus laptop.

I really don't think there is anything to worry about here. The number of bad keyboards compared with overall sales are low. My recommendation is if you get a bad keyboard, just RMA immediately for replacement, or get with your reseller for assistance. Yes, if you had a bad keyboard it would be a disappointment and inconvenient, but the sooner folks seek remedy, the sooner their issues can be resolved.

All of the SteelSeries keyboards I have had in my possession have been fine.

    :)

LOL! Yeah, my son had to have that G74SX, but began hating it when I got the GT780DXR.

Is there any power modification needed to upgrade from the 670M to the 680M; like there was with the 580M?

I guess since the 680M uses less power than the 675M, it should probably be okay.

Cant wait to get the badboy GT60. I've been asking about it having a 680M for months! ^^

Can anyone really describe the extra copper cooling heatsinks that XoticPC adds and if it would actually help or even hinder upgradeability?? I saw the joke pic but I really want to know if it's worth it. I want a nice and cool system!

Temps barely increased cloud +3 degres but this beast already runs very cool in the GT70.

This has been tested in a GT70 Barebone or MSI 1762.

i think m17x (but with 3820qm an i don't know software or driver and i think with no OC) is better .

    GRAPHICS SCORE 6253

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3820QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P6287 3DMarks

maybe buy gt60 0ne but i'm a little concern about performance of this laptop .

Not very good? But they aren't bad either, and there is more to consider here. These MSI notebooks are new to market...... JUST released...... and these results should only be considered preliminary. Also, the GTX-680M is new, and as manufacturers continue to develop their product, we can generally expect them to improve. Such is normally the case with hardware drivers, so I think its a bit early to say these preliminary MSI benchmarks are "not very good". They are certainly within an expected range, and vastly improved over the 580M scoring.

When making a comparison against other benchmarks (or manufacturer), one also should consider each systems state. The question beckons, 'Are all things equal', the hardware configuration, the OS, the drivers, were the systems optimized before hand, were OC tools used, etc. ? All of these things can impact the benchmark scoring.

Having said this, can you tell me the AW's system state at the time of testing? You mentioned a 3870QM, but what else? In other words, we generally only see part of the picture when looking at benchmarks, so it is difficult to see these as definitive, unless comparisons are made with all things equal. For the most part they tend to be subjective at best.

Over the course of the next few months, I predict you will see MSI 680M scores improving. Likewise, I think this can be said for other manufacturers too. BUT, looking at recent 580M history, I believe MSI was the only manufacturer not experiencing 'throttling' issues, wherein other brand users were reporting the need of ThrottleStop. Just saying..... something else to watch for..... and more to consider.

See my reply to xMAR99 below.....

    :)

I think you are exactly right regarding future drivers. Folks have to be a little patient when new gpu's are introduced. Last night I went to Nvidia looking for new drivers, and low & behold, no 6xxM drivers were showing support. I find this odd because just last week I looked, and I was amazed to see drivers for the 680M were already available...... but now, NOTHING! Weird, its like they pulled support for the entire 6xxM line. Whatever, I am sure we'll see something soon.

Anyhow, when I posted the GT70 0NE-276US unboxing photos, I wrote the following regarding the early-release benchmarks:

Just something to pass along to those folks questioning the early numbers. I believe Ken was also following the same protocols.

    :)

Anyone know of a Canadian website I can order a MSI GT60 ONE? Plenty of US sites have them, but I don't want to order from the US and have to pay a few extra hundred dollars worth of duties and other b.s. charges. Newegg Canada still doesn't have them, and I'm not sure what other Canadian site would...

We ship to Canada. There are no duties but you would be responsible for any GST/HST/PST just as you would be if you bought locally. To see a good chart showing the tax in your area please go to A & A Contract Customs Brokers - Online tax tables, Canadian PST, GST, HST tax tables online.

Canada Standard shipping is cheaper and slower than Expedited, but it doesn't include brokerage where Expedited does include brokerage. You will see these shipping options available in the Shopping Cart.

Please feel free to email me at [email protected] or call me Toll Free at 1-877-711-1777 between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM Pacific Time Monday through Friday to discuss any other questions you might have.
