Hmmm anyone know any reason why my GT660R just stops responding after I leave it on for 8 hours? I lose function to launch apps, and it gives me, unavailable memory. My registry files seems to been corrupted, maybe its from my Easy Transfer when I moved my files over. Oh Boy....

Seems like the figures given in this review of the GT660 show that the Gx640 has a better screen indeed:

    MSI GT660 - Les Numériques

On the right hand-side they talk about the screen: Low contrast ratio and level of black isn't that great either!

I thought it was consensus that the FFXIV benchmark was horribly unoptimized and the game would actually run way smoother than the benchmarks reports

    Hi all, new to here

I ordered a gt660 about a week ago, kinda wish i'd stumbled upon this thread before i'd purchased it...

Ive checked out most of this thread, and I really only got one question:

does anyone know what the maximum settings a gt660 will be able to play crysis at? anti aliasing? and at a playable framerate?

theres a lot of comparisons between the gt and the gx going on and i get the performance differences in terms of specs and hardware etc... what i really want to know is what is the actual graphical performance differential in gameplay? on high settings, will crysis run anti-aliasing x2 on a gt660 at 20 fps? will it run on a gx at the same settings at 30 fps? thats where i'm confused and i dont want to find out i got a notebook thats going to run a game like crysis at ten frames less per second or something... and if anyone happens to know, analysis about the gx640 would be cool too

thank you for anyone and everyones help

it's not really a gx vs gt thing

it's an ATI 5850 vs nVidia gtx 285 battle
you can prob go snooping around other threads for those comparisons

I've been playing Bad Company 2 for the past 4 days, its great, but the only real setting for smooth gameplay is LOW, even then there are some times when framerates drop. I am not sure whether drives are updated or not though. Medium setting is okay too, but when scoping, frames drop drastically.

No Blu-Ray, no RAID, no Core i7 CPU, 4GB of RAM instead of 6. It's a worthy upgrade.

With this news about the gx660R i am over the line again :(

The 15.6" fullHD is it off to see the things on the display for me, I use a strong glasses myopia and astigmatism here ehhehehehe

    near like a blind ;p.

    I love the HD5870 performance.

I will mantain the decision of GT660R, but I am unsure about if I made the best choose.

I ran the crysis benchmark on my gt627 (slower than your GT660), high settings and 2x AA I got this:

in this 1366x768 resolution, I believe you can play all games in the marquet with a very good setings and AA on.

Today I has a gateway NV 73A10u, phenom II x 3 N830 and ATI HD5650 and it can play well games in 1600x900, the GTX285M have much more power than the ATI HD5650.

But crysys in very high with AA need a lot of power for you get a good FPS.

I believe in high you can play easy crysis with AAx4 with a gtx285.

if you whant more power, get a look in the the gx660 with the hd5870, it is better than the gtx285m.

I would not get hung up on Blue ray on a 15 or even 17" screen..LOL Most people could not tell the difference on a 42" screen from regular DVDs. You really have to have a large screen to benefit from the extra resolution. What good is opening up three Windows if you have to struggle to see the information? Some things have to be chalked up to marketing to those who buy "specs" and synthetic benchmarks over realized benefit.

Can anyone tell me the ideal temperature? I ran like 3 different temperature monitors, and they tell me my CPU is like 62-70 celcius.

I had some problems when I transfered by files with Windows Easy Transfer, then I reformatted my computer again. I was streaming anime, when in the middle, the comp crashed it had a 'duuurrrr' sound and it was flashing green, yellow, blue and purple.

Ice has it nailed quite nicely, lower res better fps, and since the 285 aint the reigning king it needs all the help it can get,

Only reason to have high res on a small screen is to cram windows in.

Xar, are the temperatures of the CPU like that under heavy activity (Gaming etc.)?

Normal condition, but I don't know if its true or not, I saw in 1 of the review the temps were 80 celcius. I also am having major issues with my GT660.
For one, I set my 'what does closing lid do' to not turn off screen when its closed, I close my lid most of the way, and the screen turns off. Also my GT660 seems to have energy saver or w/e and makes itself go to sleep after a while. I changed all my options, that I can see so that it doesn't, but doesn't help. The the most annoying problem is, I leave my computer on (seems it doesn't sleep if I leave it in 'balanced' power setting) for like 8 hours, when I come back the screen is on, but its black, I don't even see cursor and can't do anything.

Even my old laptop never had such problems. The most was hardware failure, and the fact that my laptop sometimes couldn't shut down using Start --> shutdown.

All i have is a couple of programs open and Bad Company 2 on. But even when I am doing nothing the temp is still high. My friends say their comps are only at 36 celcius or so.

    ...facepalm

battlefield too is kinda very gpu intensive, so naturally the temp will be high, even if it's minimized

If you can find a gpu that only goes into the mid 30s with BFBC2 i'll be AMAZEDDDDDDD

5870 is better than the 285m, although thats just a generalization and isn't always right depending on the game/drivers/etc.

Hello all I have the GT663 (460m), and I would like to know if there are programs from msi that can be removed or not installed if I do a new install of win 7. There is maybe a clean install guide for this one ?

Well guys... this is my first post in the MSI side of the forums as I am now a proud owner of a GT660... and I love it.

I was looking to replace my aging dv5t with a 9600m and thought about getting another HP product. I had ordered one of the new dv7t Sandy Bridge but my order was canceled after the Intel announcement/recall. I am grateful to both Intel and HP for that as it forced me to look at other options.

That is when I decided I wanted a real gaming notebook and started looking at the HP envy 17, Asus, Toshiba, and MSI products. I had wanted a newer GPU like a 5870 or 460 but when I saw this one on sale at Newegg for $900 US (after rebate) I could not pass it up.

Overall I am very impressed with the looks and performance. I thought I would not like the looks but after I un-boxed it started to grow on me.

After a fresh install of Windows I started looking into OC tools. (One thing I hated was when the GPU would get warm just by surfing the internet.) I have used RivaTuner for my dv5t but that no longer works so then came MSI Afterburner. I currently use this to monitor in-game temps and FPS rates but I hate the OC tool as it does not give me access to adjust the different Power states of the card.

I have since solved this problem when I found the tool Nvidia Inspector 1.9.5.5. This allows me to set the individual clock settings as well as control when the card kick into higher voltage states and clock speeds. Now I have a nice cool running notebook even when surfing the web. ~44C as I type this up.

To all the owners of the GT660 and fellow MSI owners... :D
