New FireGL's coming in a matter of days 27 November 2008
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=10664&Itemid=1
Shouldnt we wait for Mobility FireGL. HP EliteBook might be first in that. I know FireGL is for CAD not gaming, but their gaming is on par with Radeons. Two treats in one ticket. -
Mobility FireGL based on RV700 would be awesome, but it won't be out for ages. Hopefully Lenovo will pick up a mobility radeon 4000 for their thinkpad line to satisfy the high-build-quality crowd.

but those new Firegl cards are desktop only...or is a mobile version coming?
-
Its on MSI's American site in two configurations, GT725-074US and GT725-075US. The 075US model have a Blu-Ray drive, 1920x1200 resolution and P9500 processor over the DVD drive, 1650x1080 resolution and P8600 processor of the 074US.
http://www.msimobile.com/nblist.aspx?series=GT725
Both are listed for Pre-Order on Amazon at $1350 and $1600 respectively.

That's a very nice upgrade for $250. I wonder what the release dates look like.
-
Thanks for the update Rahul. It seems like the $250 difference is worth it, since you are getting a slightly faster but more power efficient processor, Blu-ray drive and a higher resolution screen. 1680x1050 isn't bad for a 17" screen, but most would probably want the 1920x1080/1920x1200 with a screen that size.
It's a shame the $1350 configuration didn't have the higher resolution screen, that would have made it an absolute bargain, perhaps being even more so than the Gateway P-7811fx. Even so, still a great offering for a very fair price. -
This is definitely a great deal. I'll try to look around and see if anyone else is selling this besides amazon.

Both of them are rated at 25w TDP.

any one know if MSI use EFI bios on their laptops? i know they have some desktop mobo's that use EFI, interested in finding out if this lappy might have it.
Manual doesnt say anything about it so i'm guessing not -
-
I don't think we will see this notebook available until early 2009. I'm also anxious for other manufacturers to use this GPU in their notebooks. -
say does anyone know if the graphics card in this laptop is user upgradable ?
Thanks

This is will probably be available end of the month to early Jan." -
It's right here on Amazon right now. The higher end model with WUXGA.
-
Yeah, I found those there today, basically first page if you google the 725, still debating whether or not the extra $250 is worth it to me (blue-ray drive is unimportant)

Great replies everyone. I didn't know my thread can go up to this long.
I'd rather take the 075US varient instead. However it seems to only come with one harddrive slot (?). I'm not sure the probability of installing a second HD is possible with this laptop. -
wow i guess the 48xx cards will be here sooner than everyone thought
-

yeah i know, but as i just wrote in the other msi thread i wish mainstream makers like dell, hp, and lenovo would hurry the hell up and put the 4000 series in there notebooks already.
Even if they dont id LOVE to see an Asus with a 4000 series card -
I agree 100%
Granted I'm sure it would be a whole lot more expensive than the MSI, but they've already got a well-established name while MSI is still trying to built theirs. -

imo i would not personally ever get a asus notebook again nor do i support anything asus after my experiences with them
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
why not? What happened? Let me guess your 8 series gpu fried right?
-
no not at all. ive had to rma a few things back to asus incluing a mobo (p4e-800 from way back) a notebook, and a gpu (desktop) and all three times the rma exprience was aweful. the notebook came back all scratched up and was gone for almost a month. i called and they could not "find it" then told me it shipped, well a week later when i saw nothing i called and they said "oh sorry" and then they said they would have to "find it" all in all it was almost 5-6 weeks before i got it back and it was because the touchpad stopped working altogether not the gpu. the mobo i had to rma twice because the first time it came back i plugged it in and it instantly went upin smoke. AFTER the second rma they finally sent me a new one. all ended okay but dealing with them imo was aweful

At the risk of sounding ignorant, is that *only* a BluRay drive? I honestly have not looked into BluRay drives *ever* and I don't even know if they natively read standard DVD and CD? What about +/-?
How would this laptop compare to a NP5797? -
SomeFormOFhuman has the dumbest username.
There's one thing left uncertain; how many HDD drive slots are there in this MSI GT275 notebook? If there 2 I'd grab the GT725 immediately.
Comparison to the NP5797? Can't really tell as we don't have any real world benchmarks on the HD4850 yet, all we have is 3DMark scores... Not sure whether if they're indeed reliable but whatever it is, I know at this ~$1500 price range, it is a real price : performance ratio competitor to Gateway's FXes.
Gateway doesn't sell in Singapore, so I may have to pop in to one of these. -
BluRay drives can play/read CD's and DVD's, But regular DVD players cannot play/read BluRay discs.
As far as comparing the MSI GT725 with the Sager NP5797, I believe the MSI notebook is more cheaper and also weighs a little bit less than the Sager. As far as benchmarks... There not that much information, but there's something about it here

So the 512MB ATI card may outperform the 1GB 9800 GTX. If that is true and MSI's build quality is equivalent to Sager then it definitely wins out of those two. That would leave just one more contender, which is me finding a 30% off coupon for the Dell M6400
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Wow the 4850 is not that weak compared to the desktop version thats excellent! the interesting thing is they say they did a review but it isnt on there site i guess they havent posted it yet
the insane thing is it has 800 pipelines like the desktop version!! ive seen the pics this thing gets almost 10000 3dmark with a regular overclock and a P8600!! so a x9100 with an overclock would have to score over 11,000 EASILY so it is as strong as a 9800 GTX as it probably is gonna be half the price in typical ATI fashion -
are these available yet?????? i need to buy one very soon, in japan, im ready to buy a 570TU with 1gig GTX for 2000 bucks, but if i can get a 4850 in a lappy id rather that. I cant find any info about availablility at all. Anyone help?
-
The pic with the 10000 marks and the P8600 were fake. It listed a P8600 but was actually a T8300 overclocked to 2.8GHz. Don't trust those pictures, they are far from authentic.
-
The P8600 is actually a T8300 believe it or not. It's just that the P8600 operates at a 266mhz FSB while the T8300 operates at 200mhz (hence the P8600 having a 1066mhz FSB and the T8300 having a 800mhz FSB). Same story with the P9500 and the T9400. Often early ES models of the chips are reported based on the previous architecture its based off of in CPU-Z.

Better then the FX?!??!!? Yeah....probably -
SomeFormOFhuman has the dumbest username.
So..... has any pre-ordered it from Amazon yet?
-
I may or may not. It's so hard to pick, I'm between this one or the Sager 8660.
PS: I saw some 15 inch versions with the same specs, do u know when those are going to be released? It will prolly be cheapear also. -
Is the preorder at Amazon a discounted price, or do you know if it will be the 1359 asked now when released.
Thanks..what 15 inch models MSI will have a 4850 msi?
MSI GT725 now with Intel Centrino & ATI Radeon Mobility 4850
