something for you guys to read.
"Delivery of your notebook is set for Late Jan/ Early Feb. Yes, you will be first to have it. This is a guaranteed time frame or your moneyback!"
he said that he will guarantee late jan/early feb delivery...
Very interesting. -
Are you pre-ordering or are you waiting for it to be released?
-
have preordered frm anvika in the UK.
-
cool...frostycomputers is selling it for pre-order on ebay for $1419.
-
Now again it's entirely possible his pics are right and amazon's are wrong, obviously. -
i wouldn't take the pics seriously, what with MSI's reputation for wrong spec description
-
"Image for illustrative purposes only"
you can see the real pictures of the laptop from ces 09 a few post back i posted them a few time.
the case of this laptop is made of carbon fibre to keep the waight down and its good for envirement.
now about the garuntee of ebay seller what he offering is that you will get your money if the laptop dont get relased by early feb thats not a good garuntee he would nt lose anything so even if the delivery gets delays he gonna refund your money thats all.
if he is that sure about the release date he should say something like garuntee delivery or i will give you $10 off the price each day go over the time he promisses now that would be a garuntee and i will cancel my pre order which i place with microanvika and will buy from him what u say xed? -
dude, hes shipping from the US. i wouldnt risk it, id rather wait for anvika to have them. plus, it easier to deal with anvika with regards to warranty and repairs and the like
-
i read the first line of the listing and it say its 15.4 inc screen lol -
lol no way period the case is real carbon fiber. there is no way they would sell at those prices. do you have any idea how much just the carbon fiber mat is...
-
have a look on spec here

sorry but i agree with zfactor. i am sure that is just fake carbon fibre. it costs too much to be used on a laptop that just costs 1125 pounds.
also i was at anvika at harrods just now, inquiring about the GT725. Guess what he told me?
"It will be here next week, we placed the order on Dec 16th and hopefully, it should arrive next week"
That's a load of crap. I don't believe the fellow -
i rang microanvika sales line yesterday was told that the guy who is dealing with it is on holiday and will be back by monday.
the girl said they were told this laptop should be in stock by 2nd week of jan. and they dont have any more info and i was advise to call back monday.
to be honest i got a feeling that it will be out by first week of feb the latest becuase its been on pre order for 3 weeks now on amazon. -
Amazon has them on pre-order too for $70 less than frosty.
Weird thing about Frosty is that I noticed that he has the same case dimension + weight for BOTH the 725 models and the 627 models. His 725 dimensions agree with what's on amazon, but they have no dimensions/weight for the 627 models, but checking the gx620 info it appears that the 725 is only SLIGHTLY larger than the 620 which should be the same size as the 627...
Making me re-consider to look at these again now too. It'd be nice to try a Radeon GPU again, but I dread the inevitable poor X11 performance until a decent open source driver arrives. (Even the ATI proprieatary X11 drivers are reportedly awful(why I've kept to nvidia) and I'm sure the primary reason that they've decided to release enough info to write OSS drivers for X11...) -
If carbon fiber is as expensive as you say, I would rather think that they are exploiting near-slave miners or workers in a foreign country. That's everyday use in USA, Europe, etc, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. -
theres real carbon fibre and then theres fake carbon fibre made from plastics in the weave pattern of carbon fibre.
i was referring to the latter. -
-
IIRC Apple used carbon fiber as their case material some time back, then moved on to metallic cases. Up to Al no, but IIRC they started with Ti.
Also turns out that my case dimension approx. using Amazon/Frosty value seems to disagree a bit with the official MSI dimensions given on their global site.
Looks like the 627 is an inch (or so) longer than the 627's case, approx. the same depth, and slightly thicker. Still, overall not as much of a difference as I had expected, although I do wish that some large retail chain sold these things so that I could actually see the sizes of the various cases. As it stands the only ones that I have seen are the 620/627 case, and I could go to a Best Buy to look at their G50VT, which presumably shares the same case as the rest of the G50VTs.
Does MSI ODM/OEM for any of the brands more likely to be found in large retail chains? -
thats is 100% fake carbon fiber. i work with the real stuff all the time. trust me that looks like the film applied to car parts to make the fake carbon look its like a super think vinyl film that is heat shrinkable. i have sold and applied it to dashboard pieces for years.

this is REAL carbon fiber:

i work with real stuff all the time. trust me there is no way they are using real stuff.. -
Ok I am not sure why we are debating about carbon fibre zfactor, Persio , xed and myself none of us own the laptop so none us can be 100% sure about the material or spec until its release.
to be honest carbon fibre or no carbon fibre i will still going to get this laptop does not bother me at all so let’s save the carbon fibre debate for later. And let’s talk about the release date of this laptop. I am going to ring microanvika first thing in the morning finger cross hopefully I will get a good news -
no one is arguing. just debating on whether it's carbon fibre
chill, guys... -
who said anything about arguing ?
-

Woah, my thread has been going on for quite a while! This is probably the highest number of replies of all my threads I have created. Keep it up!
Well it seems like majority of everyone in NBR is excited about the GT725's arrival. I did alot of reading, and it seems like majority of the folks at "What Notebook Should I Buy" forum are recommending it, or least mentioning about it in almost every thread about enquiring a gaming laptop.
They have one thing in mind - all of us are dying to see the performance of the Mobile variant of the HD4850. -
also, the MSI has the best price right now.... -

Actually Frosty's 725 is $1359 from their frostycomputers page. Wonder why the ebay listings are higher... low end one, and he also has a 627 for $1259 IIRC, the WSXGA+ screen I believe (lists it as 1680x1050) minus BR DVD but only with a P8400...
HD4850: Either way I'm being pushed more and more towards the 17" form factor since a) as per official specs v. 15.4" it's not really much larger, apparently, b) possibility for quad core upgrade some day maybe, and c) up to MXM-III support, so better possibilities of upgrades for the GPU as well
1651/GX620 only support a low end quad core ATM (probably for thermal reasons), and likely for same thermal reasons as well as space maybe will be more limited in GPU upgrades, pretty much the same would seem to apply to the 627 as it appears to have the same case and maybe even mb as the 620. While the G50VT is pretty big, and may have a proprietary version of Asus MXM thereby limiting potential GPU upgrades.
[EDIT]
I think that Frosty has his specs all wrong other than the titles, but even those aren't really correct...
[/EDIT] -
i think the reason why ebay listing are higher. seller have to pay like some % of his sale to ebay as final value fee. he also have to pay for puting his listing on ebay than if someone pay with paypal. seller have to pay paypal fee for recieving that money so to cover all these charges the price is higher on ebay
if you buy from his web site he dont have to pay all these charges so price is lower. -
I understand that it seems there are a lot of "typo" errors in the specs. MSI says there is only 3MB of L2 cache, however if they are truely using a P9500, I can not for the life of me find any P9500s that have anything but 6MB of L2 cache.
I would then assume this is just another mistake in the specs.
Unfortunately I cannot reach anyone at MSI to confirm or deny any of these "oversights".
Well here is to hoping the 725 shows up sooner than later..... -
so, after all these mistakes, the only certain thing is that it has a 4850.
(or.. maybe... it's a mistake too, and it's a 3850)

yeah guys i didnt want to start anything with anyone. i just was saying it was not the real stuff nothing more. no agruements.. lol.. now back on track
-
If you guys detest the faux carbon fiber pieces so much, I'm sure the corresponding parts can be interchanged with the current GX720.
-
Im just glad the machine is not all shiny plastic to make the OCD people crazy as i hated the gateways for just that reason .
MSI GT725 now with Intel Centrino & ATI Radeon Mobility 4850
