IME the uS offices of those various Taiwanese electronics companies are generally pretty ulessly clueless. The only times that I've had to deal with them I gave up on the US office and ended up getting in contact with an engineer in Taiwan. I don't even remember how I got the contact offhand... maybe just sent email to a general support address and got forwarded to him. (It's been a number of years now since I did this, and only had to because the English documentation was next to useless and incomplete to boot.)

With the end of CES, I'm betting the 4000 series radeon based laptops will release soon.

I have read somewhere that the Mobility HD4870 cards won't be out until March right? But the HD4850s should be out sooner?

Were you referring to the Alienware thread?

I hope we don't have to wait until March.

Some info about the pre-order thing in amazon:

Can anyone confirm that there is no extra-charge for cancelling pre-ordered items? In that case, I would pre-order it now, and if it's not been released by the end of Jan, I'd cancel it.

Basically there's no information we don't already have here.

For multimediapurposes there will be the HD4300 and HD4500. Gamingentrymodel will be called HD4600. For highendgaming there will be cards like the HD4850 and HD4870.

The HD4870 will be the first mobile graphic card to feature GDDR5 vram. They will be featured in notebooks by ASUS and MSI first.

Jugding by the first benchmarks the 2xHD4870 in CrossFire mode could kick Nvidias highend cards butt.

Its nice of AMD actually offering new generation of mobility GPU, where new mid class cards like 46x0 actually replaces last gen enthusiast card on performance.

Ok I was gonna order the gateway from bestbuy untill I saw this. Can some one please answer if you know wether you can put 2hd's in the laptop or not. I need to dual boot Leopard to run Final Cut Studio Pro 2 and id rather do it that way then emulate it under windows. I called msi and the guy says i dont see anything here indicating that it does, and I thought, well not s#@! guy nether does the gateway! I want to pre order as I will have the money tomorrow, but if it can't house dual hd's that might b a deal breaker.

the are a ton of similar laptops: Alienware, Sager, Dell, Asus

but only MSI makes them this cheap and powerful.

    Asus has the G71
    Alienware M17
    Dell XPS 17

alienware and dell have SLIs but they cost a bomb. trust me you wont get a better deal than MSI. the closest was the Asus G71 but the service sucks and it only has a nVidia 9700m GT. plus u can get a quad with it too

but then it all boils down to price and MSI has the best i have seen. my 2 cents

Why can't you just partition the drive to dual boot?

    OR

Use the e-Sata port, which is just as fast as internal.

Thank you very much! I had decided to buy the gateway tomorrow's morning, but it's great news that it's coming out on early february AND that it is going to be sold by someone else besides amazon! That means we will not be tied to their will when it comes to the price.

Hope it is early feb for real. Or it would also be great that this hurries amazon, if amazon is responsible for the delay at all.

There are more places than Amazon. RKcomputers at rkcomputer(dot)net sells em and has em listed and he has excellent rep on the boards here. he goes by NoClue4uHere (his price is about $40 more but you get PERSONAL support instead of tech support from god knows where from amazon)
or MWAVE sells MSI notebooks by the buckets (sorta like zipzoomfly or newegg)

and Zipzoomfly has em listed also

But none are in stock of course

I ordered my GT725 from Micro Anvika yesterday. I was told on the phone that they expected them in some time next week.

Who knows how accurate this is, so we will just have to wait and see.

Given the spec of the laptop for the price; there isnt really anything else around that can compete for the time being; so i reckon its worth the wait for a few weeks.

If they start telling me that the delivery date isnt until late Feb/March, then I might be inclined to rethink the whole laptop thing, but lets wait and see.

That's what they have been telling me and faisalhero....

But you are right regarding spec and price. I just feel pre-emptively jealous of all those buyers who get to buy them when they are in stock as opposed to pre-ordering them haha :D

well, they do have 15 on order. it's just that it hasn't arrived yet, thats the annoying bit.

but i suppose its msi's fault. but hey, they just released the ATi MR card sooooo the GT725 should be here soon :)

No hard data yet but it's said to basically just be an underclocked/tweaked for mobile 4850. So if that's anything to say about it we can be sure that this card is going to haul a**.

Desktop 4850 is rated at 1 tflop, mobility is at 0.88 tflop, not that those mean much, but I think performance difference ought to be pretty small.

if it ships with 32bit installed will the key unlock 64bit? would it be a big difference? since 32bit wont see the 4gigs with the video card installed it would only see 3.4ish gigs.
