yep....how sweet it would be to be able to stick a qm in there and have it run cool. If only all there was to worry about was buying high performance parts and letting to go to work... in a perfect world

Anyone knows if there will be a bouton to switch between the i5 IGP and the 5850 ?
-
Don't bet on it.

Is there a way to use the IGP "manually" (with a software)?
-
Both Gx won't support IGP's ... You need to look at other notebooks if you want that feature.
-
If MSI used the HM55 chipset it would likely be possible, though you would need to change the internal wiring so the outputs are from the IGP and not the dGPU.
However, it's extremely unlikely that they would choose HM55 instead of PM55, since they don't want to have switchable graphics on the GX640. -
It's HM55 for both Gx.
-
Interesting. Still, my previous post was wrong, I'd forgotten that ATI doesn't have an equivalent to Nvidia's Optimus. Sorry, switchable graphics is a no on the GX640, then; you'd need the multiplexers and such.
-
And anyone know how much power the 5850 need in idle ?

Well ATI may not have an Optimus equivalent but I think he was referring to switchable graphics more in the way that the alienwares/vaio z does it. With a button or switch to just turn an switch to the integrated. -
Yes, but without an Optimus equivalent you need additional hardware on the motherboard, which MSI clearly isn't adding.
Also, that 5850 in the link is the desktop card, no? -

Oops wasn't paying attention, you are right. How how google fails me
Well is the motherboard the same as the GE600? -
