5482741 Use the GT683DXR not the GT685. It might look the same but it might not work so well. I have found your CPU ID Microcode and will upload it for you once i have the time to do so.

AGP Aperture is used by the system when the Hardware Renderer is running low on memory. Since I have 2 GB VMEM, I don't think I'll ever need it.... But, whatever, 512 MB it is. If you go in DXDIAG you will see that AGP Texture Acceleration is enabled, so the AGP Aperture will be used if the Hardware Renderer is low on memory. I'm sure the difference in quality between 18 bit and 24 bit is negligible and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyways, but it works, so why not? :)

Is this OS limited, Platform limited or BIOS limited?

I don't mind bin editing files as long as I can get CE and Quartz to work. I don't mind a few slots not working....

its BIOS limited as the DSDT area of the bios is buggy as hell.

The SD Card will not work full stop on OSX platform QI CE will work after editing the .kext files but performance is slow. I would leave the AGP size as it was. leave also the LVS at 18bit

Mac OSX mainly uses the DSDT.aml for fixes and as the bios is a PC its very buggy making it hard for it to work correctly in MAC OSX i should know as i have tried, I had it installed but i couldn't get the Sound FN SD-Card to work right at all and the Nvidia GTX560M was hit and miss performance wise!

The whole idea of AGP aperture died with the AGP slot.

Thanks for the clarification Meaker. Why does the card still report using AGP Texture Acceleration?

PCI-express cards can dynamically change the amount of system ram allocated to the graphics card, AGP texture acceleration is just the name used when the graphics card directly accesses textures in the area of ram allocated to it.

Setting a fixed variable is meaningless.

They simply take as much as they need.

Nvidia just posted new WHQL drivers for mobile (verde). Win7/Vista/2008 only.
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 295.73 WHQL

ALSO - I found out that for some reason ACPI Auto-configuration is disabled by default in the 3.0P. Windows XP failed to boot into the second stage of the installer with this turned off. On seems to be the best option for this setting... Right now XP 64, 7 64 dualboot on RAID 1+0 running like a dream..... Now to figure out why this Backtrack installer keeps hanging.... ugh.

Here are some 3DMark06 scores for you guys to benchmark on...

    Test System - MSI 16F2, Intel Core i7 2670QM, Nvidia GTX580M, 8GB 1600 mhz Kingston HyperX, Twin Scorpio 7200 RPM 16MB cache 750GB Drives in Raid 1+0

The following tests were done under Windows XP 64 bit on 3DMark 06:

    19024 - 1840 mem - 750 core - GPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 267.24 settings
    19788 - 1840 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 267.24 settings
19274 - 1840 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Force Vsync Off - High Performance Texture Quality - AA Off - Anisotropic Off - Single Display Performance Mode - Threaded Optimization On
19775 - 1840 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Force Vsync Off - High Performance Texture Quality - AA Off - Anisotropic Off - Multiple Display Performance Mode - Threaded Optimization On
19774 - 1840 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Force Vsync Off - High Performance Texture Quality - AA Off - Anisotropic Off - Multiple Display Performance Mode - Threaded Optimization On - Maximum Pre-rendered Frames 2 (Default 3)
19762 - 1840 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Force Vsync Off - High Performance Texture Quality - AA Off - Anisotropic Off - Multiple Display Performance Mode - Threaded Optimization Auto - Maximum Pre-rendered Frames 3
    19814 - 1860 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 267.24 settings
    19816 - 1880 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 267.24 settings 1 or 2 Texture Flickers Noticed
19732 - 1920 mem - 750 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 267.24 settings Major Texture Flickering Noticed
    19930 - 1860 mem - 755 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 267.24 settings No Texture Flickeringhttp://3dmark.com/3dm06/16484797

The following tests were done under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on 3DMark 06:

    20139 - 1860 mem - 755 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 295.73 settings → http://3dmark.com/3dm06/16484830
    20230 - 1860 mem - 760 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 295.73 settings → http://3dmark.com/3dm06/16484861

The following test was done under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on 3DMark Vantage:

    P17282 - 1860 mem - 760 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 295.73 settings → http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3911627

The following test was done under Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on 3DMark 11:

    P4171 - 1860 mem - 760 core - CPU Physx - Default Nvidia Driver 295.73 settings → http://3dmark.com/3dm11/2814304

All these tests are done under stock Nvidia BIOS with stock VID. These results won't post to the leaderboard beacuse the driver I'm using is for gtx480m (on XP 64)... I had to add an entry for gtx580m. As soon as a WHQL driver comes out for XP 64 for gtx580m I'll post to leaderboards. Right now Futuremark is seeing my card as Generic VGA on XP 64 and 7.....

NOTE: With Nvidia GTX580M at 1860 mem and 760 core I didn't notice a single texture flicker or artifact.

Nice scores on the 580M, Due to the way Windows 7 runs Disabled was the best setting. As for hackingtoshing yes its fun i still do hackingtoshing myself. As for backtrack and other Linux distros i have found that a few distros do not work well with the barebone kit. not sure why like.

From what I have heard the GT683DXR bios fits the 16f2 like a glove... I haven't (and won't) try it. Why don't you prepare a backup bios flash drive and try it? The sound chip is a Realtek ALC892 and there are modded drivers out there that enable X-Fi functionality. Read through these forums to enable DTS → http://www.hardwareheaven.com/pax-drivers/209050-realtek-soundmax-modds-sb-x-fi-mb-1-2-a-11.html

After doing some research I found out that the LVDS Panel Color Depth should be 24 bit. 24 bit is "True Color." If you are using 18 bit then dithering is used to make up for the color loss....

I personally flashed the GT683DXR how ever didn't feel safe with it as all it takes is a slight change in the bios and it can break something. I'd advice against the use of the bios. But if you want to have a mess hit it.

Unlike 5482741 i didn't have the USB issue. I flashed the unlocked bios then the GT683DXR bios straight after and my USB worked after. But please if your oging to try make a backup of the bios your using before flashing.

I had some good luck overclocking my stock 1333 memory to 1600 mhz! however I thought for fun to hit 1866(or something close to that) and it wouldn't boot. I reset the bios to default setting, and now the splash screen for the bios is a white logo of powernotebooks.

Does anyone know how to get the old logo back?

A separate question, are the CPU microcode in the BIOS the same for 3.0P and 3.05? I haven't ever changed that, but all the talk still confused me so I want to make sure i have the right BIOS. I am using 3.05

    3.05 = White
    30P = Black.

3.05 was a power netbook bios. 30P was a msi supplied bios.

3.05 has always been white, it could be you flashed the 30P bios then went back to 3.05 and the bios didn't fully clear. I should know about the white bios screen as the bios was ripped from the laptop i am using.

I was the one that backed my bios up from my brand new laptop and with help from xonar changed the logo from powernotebooks.com splash to the msi logo on white and unlocked it.

currently on the 30P bios without issues still so m,ake sure you remove the battery and power cord after flashes to aid clearing the settings.

No rant at ya like. 3.05 bios will befor ever white sorry.

It must have held over that setting from the original BIOS or something... I've been using it for a long time and it has never been white lol.

I went from stock-3.05-3.0p-3.05 and the 3.0p had the MSI logo, anyway not a huge deal just thought it was weird.

Where is this setting? And doesn't the panel need to support that color depth for it to actually work?

Yes, I'm a n00b. I've been doing a lot of reading and want to jump in on these BIOS's and stuff. I'm new to this type of stuff, though, so please excuse any of my extremely n00b type of questions.

I believe that control is just for the integrated GPU.....

I have a problem with the 30P bios, it screws up my temperature monitor.

I have tried multiple programs and my temps bounce from 0 to 50-60. This does not happen under 305 and it kills my turbo basically.

I have a 2720QM ES 8mb, is there maybe an issue?

The only issue I noticed with 30P, was that the Turbo Boost was acting a bit weird. Even with ThrottleStop, the max 4 core multiplier stayed between 28x and 29x.

That sounds like a result of the decreased Turbo.

I used HWMonitor to check temps when I had 30P; and noticed temps that were slightly lower since the multiplier was lower. I didn't really see the multiplier stay at 31x long enough to get an accurate temp reading, but I saw nothing above 80°C or so.

Even though 06A5 is in 30U and 305, I can't seem to find and extract it with MMTool.

I have been getting Turbo boast at x30 and x31 at times you can try adjusting the settings in bios for that.

But it could be that was what was included in the update directly from MSI.

When i have time i will have another look for ya.
