Intel seems not to be gimping the mobile K versions like they do on the desktop. I think the CM236 is more for the Xeons anyway but MSI saw a reason to put those in the GT72S.

It's probably for the reason that they felt a need to make a product to stand out, such as ASUS is releasing a water-cooled GX700 (MSI had used this PN in the past).

Yeah. Asus's liquid cooling seems gimmicky to me. The only reason I can see for it us if there's heavy overclocking going on with it. It's not like the GS30 dock that holds a a beefier video card or something.

Yup, that's the reason everyone is probably going to ask, "what's the extra cooling going to do for me?", "will I be able to overclock with this cooling system?", etc.

I would have been impressed if they squeezed an effective liquid cooling system in the chassis.

superguy, thanks for catching that, VT-d is important to me at times, so I guess I will need to pursue the Mobile Intel® CM236 Chipset (Intel® GL82CM236 PCH) for this generation.

I am using the HM87 now with VM's and VT-d support:
    http://ark.intel.com/m/products/75528#@product/specifications

What high end models are using the CM236, either HQ or Desktop CPU?

I do look forward to getting these new keyboards in hand so we can check them out. Wondering mostly about the "sticker" comment and if it really is just a sticker put on top of a clear key. The reason for the change was to get a brighter backlit keyboard, so its is with good intentions in mind.

Depending on the reception, could the "original" keyboard from earlier series be a customizable option at shops like yours?

We can definitely see if MSI will source us just the keyboards. But they may be hard to get if they stopped production on those to move to these new ones.

The report on the keyboard doesn't mean much, because no matter what design MSI uses, it's usually intended for the better, but some will always like/dislike the changes.
According to MSI, this keyboard is printed directly on to the top but not sticker type, additionally, this is to provide more light (or bleeding per some).

Yeah, I read about it on the news sites that MSI was planning on making the backlight brighter for their new keyboards. I think they did mention a while ago that they would loose the sides of the keys, so no wonder it is clear type plastic on the sides now.

As long as it feels good when using, it is for the better. But as always, some will find it bothersome.

I personally liked the change to the keyboard on what I've seen so far. They didn't look like a sticker at all, or seem cheapened compared to the current one, from my short time checking it out. I suppose if someone doesn't like the amount of light, you could always dim the brightness as well.

It's not sticker as reported by some websites, this is the same type of keys as they were before except with the clear sides. But the light bleeding can be an issue for sure so yeah dim the brightness is a good idea to reduce it.

Right. Let me rephrase. I wasn't thinking that it may be a sticker, but doesn't look like one. But I was meaning that it didn't look like the top of the keys had changed to a sticker.

The base plastic in the original keys has to be clear with a coating not covering some areas as much to allow light through, I would imagine production units simply not covering the edge to make the light brighter (which is something they were advertising for the new models IIRC).

Various MSI Skylake models have been appearing and disappearing on XoticPC's site for the past week or two. Had a GT72 Pro. model in my cart earlier, then when I checked it again a little while after adding it to my cart, it was gone.

MSI hasn't release new price list for their GT80 yet, only the GT72, GE72, GS70, GE62 and GS60 Ghost. So we don't know yet.

Wow. Is that from the new Skylake GT72? Impressive stuff. :) looks as though it's going to be an very quiet machine, even during gaming.

I was saving up for an Broadwell one with an 980m inside of it, but just recently switched my attention to the new upcoming Skylake model as I've learned from the past that it's best to go for the latest model of any product, as long as you can afford it.

Based on the GT72 skylake stock versus the old stock gt72, can you predict if the price will increase?

No, it's a different class of product so a change in one does not imply the other has to change.

If you have the GT72 6820hk version is the CPU bins locked to a max of 4ghz as MSI mentioned in their press release? Is this lock at 1 core or all 4 cores at 4ghz because I expect the GT80 to possibly be treated in the same way.

Looks like MSI is blaming Intel for the later release when they're shipping Skylake laptops in other countries. So, I'll blame them too. :D

That said, most of the models I've seen are the "lite" versions of the Nvidia cards, 3 or 4 GB instead of 6 or 8 GB cards. It wasn't too hard to find the beefier cards before, but that seems to have changed. Is there a shortage of the the memory heavy cards, or is MSI trying to keep prices down, or what's the deal?

Also, anyone see if there's a premium on the 6820HK over the 6700HQ? Intel lists the chips as the same price, but that doesn't mean MSI and others won't charge more.

Lastly, how much of a price difference is there between the GT72 and GT72S?
