Any word why the 75 Hz park was dropped? Or if the GS60 4k panel is still 48Hz?

Anyone have any idea when the gs30 w/ Skylake will show up? Unless there is another alternative, I'm probably going to buy one as soon as I can to replace my desktop.

So the GT72-019 has the same exact panel as the 75Hz GT72S models? What's keeping G-Sync from working on it then? The BIOS?

Great info thx, the 4 ghz ref was an msi press release on Sept 3 in reference to the GT72 pro g series.

    www.msi.com/news/2113.html

My hope is that they set the bin limit in the bios which can be undone since it was confirmed the 6820hk was unlocked. Then again maybe it won't be a question at all with the gt80.

A locked "unlocked" chip would be ironic, wouldn't it? :)

It's true, the processor can be overclocked to 4GHz.
BIOS options are available upon detection of K processor, otherwise they will not be usable.

Does MSI blacklist / whitelist wifi cards in their UEFI / BIOS? Looking at the GS60, but would want to swap out the Killer 1525 with a Killer 1535 or Intel 7265.

Yesterday i notices Asus laptop with G-Sync technology and It is pretty cool, cause you can work with variable fps without screen tear :) and its really hard to notice difference between 45 and 60 fps, and with this tech you don't necessarily need skylake gpu to play and work well , its all about the sync.

    Cheers

Any thoughts on 4k or not for the skylake msi ghost? I think I would actually prefer 1080p, but that model seems limited to the 970M with only 3gb versus 6gb in the 4k model.

As far as I know, MSI does not blacklist anything.
However, compatibility issue is a different thing which is rare but can happen nevertheless.

I haven't seen evidence of MSI blacklisting any hardware. Aside from the Nvidia issue with needing modified INF files, I've upgraded the WiFi in my laptop twice, the CPU, GPU, added RAM, and an SSD and haven't had any issues with any hardware. :)

MSI is probably one of the most upgrade friendly laptop makers around.

So the GS40 is listed on Xotic - any other details? It looks great from the specs they have listed, and comparable to the Gigabyte counterparts. Is it going to support the Gaming Dock?

Possibly. It has a full keyboard, which is surprising on a 14" model. They're only $100 apart, so smaller chassis, smaller panel - that could easily be $100.

No, it doesn't have a full keyboard - For some reason, Xotic has decided to use the GS60 as it's stock image. I just spoke with their Sales and they're still updating the site, and awaiting final stuff from MSI. Here's a video I found for the GS40 - looks like no gaming dock connection.

Ok, that makes more sense. It would have been tough to put it on a 14" chassis.

I'm thinking the gaming dock concept a la GS30 is going to die with Thunderbolt 3. If that can support external docks like shown at IDF, it'll be a simple cable to a dock.

Story time: When I was at Pax, I thought I saw a GS40 there, but then when I got back to work, I couldn't find any info on it anywhere. Absolutely none. I remember it running on the new slimmer dock, and talking to Hutsady about it. But then after finding no info on it, I started to question if maybe it was a GS30 and I was crazy. Because if you did any searching for it, there was zero info on it.

    But then I found this:

First model reviewed in the video. Maybe that super port on the back is all needed to connect to the dock?

After watching this video, GS40 looks like the extended version of GS30, HDD in the laptop to compensate the new gaming dock without space to put on a HDD. GTX970M can let users to play on the road.

That's what I'm thinking. If the GS40 can use a dock with the SuperPort, then there shouldn't be any reason why the GT72(S) and the GS60 can't either. I think that can open up some serious new business for MSI when most of their laptops can use docks for future, better graphics.

Can you imagine having a GS60 with a 970m in with good video performance on the road, then coming home and plugging into a desktop GTX 980, or a new Pascal GPU? Yes, please! :)

It's internals would have to be quite beefed up to cope with the faster GPU (which it looks like they are).

Here is the OC option in the BIOS:

Multiply 40 is stable and 41 is unstable:
