I've tried installing Mac Os Snow Leopard on my MSI.
Cpu is detected normally, but when installer comes to "where to install" menu - no hdd is detected, and in disk editor nothing is shown.
Any ideas, that might help ?

Also - what mode is our HDD in - ide or AHCI ?

    Hey all
I just ordered an open box buy from newegg for $330!! they still had one a little while ago.
anyways, I am going to load win7 on it and was looking for the correct graphics driver on ati's site but I cant seem to locate it. I think I found it under legacy but then heard about someone else using a modified driver as the one there wont work? can someone provide a link to the best driver I should use with 7 ia32? thanks

I know I can get the video driver from MSI, but is that the best performing one? is the one from ATI a better driver?

On my Acer laptop there is one, but on MSI - nothing...

I DOAed my U210. all of a sudden it wouldnt turn on on the battery, the power led would come on for a second then turn off, like the battery was dead. newegg took it back, I was really disappointed in it aways.

The gaming performance on this thing is absolutley horroble. I had it overclocked to 2ghz and I could only manage 1550 in 3dmark03. I just wanted to use it for occasional WoW play, but any time I was anywhere with a lot of objects I would get like 4fps. no joke. so if your in iron forge and want to just get your mail, forget about it. totally useless.

I am going to get a HP DV2 instead, it has a Radeon 3400 series card so its much faster. oh well... I really wanted to like it but it just didnt cut it.

I mean it would be fine in a lower density area or just running around killing one mob, but if there were a lot of guys on the screen it was really slow. 1550 3dmark03 scores are average (one other guy got 1700) so I mean its not like I didnt have a correct video driver or something. I think I was just expecting too much.

At least I know that I like the neo processor, love the Pstate voltage adjustments and ability to OC using setfsb!
maybe once the U230 comes out ill revisit it; I do love the form factor. I need a better GPU than the 1270 tho.

the 230 i *think* has the hd3200 which is multiples faster than the 1270. Frankly, I can run wow on both my 210 and my E627 (with the hd3200) but the 3200 is surely much much much faster. with the newly installed TL60 overclocked to 2300mghz I pull between high 40's to high 90's fps in win7.

I mean I could run wow but in IF it was horrible, literally 4 fps. If I was soloing it was fine, 30fps. but I dont solo any more so it was rather useless. I would love to have gotten the 230 but its not out yet and would probably have been much more than the $380 I paid for the DV2. maybe I will get one once the price comes down if I can sell the DV2 as I did really like the screen and form factor. the 230 does have the 3200, I wonder if it has the 512 of vram tho.

Be sure and compare the actual game performance reports when talking ION vs. L335. The AMD cpu is faster than the dual atom, but the 9400 in the ion platform is faster than the HD3200 sooooo, which unit is faster will depend upon the exact games you want to play. I'd wait to see actual real life bench's before deciding between the asus and the 230.

Now, one other thing, ION 2 is about to be launched, should see some units at CES AND, from the bits and pieces of info floating around at the moment, one can conclude that ION2 will be substantially faster than the current 9400m. Fudzilla and others are reporting leaks that nvidia has taken the gpu from 16 'shader' type units all the way to 40! With a die shrink, etc. this new chip may really rock the house for casual gaming. Further, with all the gpu as a cpu type software everyone is talking about, waiting just a bit longer for the ION2 models may make a great deal of sense. Reportedly, units are ready to go, they're just being held back while existing inventory is cleared out.

I have just purchased the U210 and so far so good but I'm surprised the fan is always running whether plugged into mains power or using the battery. From the moment I turn it on the fan starts and the speed never varies no matter how long I use it. Processor cooling is set to passive in Win 7 Power Options.

Is this normal or is it a problem. Can I fix or adjust the fan ?

Your help and advice much appreciated.

The problem you are having is with hdd mode which is called ahci.
The solution is to google ahci xp - or - to search for speciall xp with ahci support.

I could be wrong, but I it seems like that there are special drivers for HDMI audio. (but i can't remember where did i saw them).
Try google our soundcard name + xp hdmi audio.

    Have you tried this:

-Right click on speaker icon in task bar
    -Playback devices
-There will either be HDMI option or a digital option, click it
    -Click 'set as default'

Assuming you have all the proper drivers installed (which should already be installed on the laptop) then it should work. I don't own a u210 however this is the normal way for Vista / Win7 machines.

saikek, Thx you! Problem solved with install another image of XP SP3 (official). When i had problem, i am tryed to install WinXP ZverDVD Rus 2010..now with official russian XPSP3 Pro all ok, but... i am not see so much differences. :( Yes, i got 3DMark score 1800, not 1750 on my preinstalled 7 with 254 bus and 560 graphics. But i am dont see any COOL imporovments now with the XP.
Now i am installing Call of Duty 4, maybe i can do this game more playable in XP, but really i am not sure.. What can say anyone about this? Is it REALLY so same like 7?..

And if i will upset with CoD...someone, tell me, how i can get OS and all software in my Wind now, like factorial and is it achievable? Cuz, as i know, now i am lost all my warranty? ((

About COD. You could try to install XP gamer edition. (But before this you should integrate ahci support into it with Nlite). And also try some utils that disable all services except the most needed.

I bought my Netbook with suse enterprise installed, so can't help you with anything...

Does 64x xp gives some performance improvement ?
(In PhotoShop, movie playing, video processing ?)

As i know, for our netbooks thats not good idea, cuz thats comfortable working only on > 4Gigs of RAM. If less, then it is same as 32 i think. I am installed one on my old Acer Aspire 4310 and dont get any improvements.

About COD now...i am checked. Thats so slow on 1st and 3rd lvls, so i am cant call it "playable". :(... And i think Game Edition will'nt help me anyway, because i havent any RAM's freezes or something like this. Thats all rests against the our Radeon. He is not fast..

How about your's perfomance in some games and which OS you choosed?

Sooo...i think i will need now back to my preinstalled 7. But how i can all back to factorial set for my good warranty? :) Any ideas?

Yes and one of advantages of 64 bit system - new 64bit office - using spreadsheets having more than 65536 cells :).

Maybe we need to look for some PCIe extensions, that would help.

Also regarding performance - did you try overclocking video and processor ?

saikek, About office - yeah!) Thats on of nice advantage of x64 :)

    PCIe extensions about 3D?

And i of course have overclock 254 bus and 560 graphics. But thats i think not anough for...CoD for example) Trying to catch HP Mini 311 :D But while not successfully...

Do you tryied some games? And are you have overclock and which OS now on your Wind?

Thx, i saw all this videos :) Some games works pretty good, but some of them are...not so playable, like i want :p

About 7. Now i am installing Windows 7 Starter, which i had preinstalled on Wind and while this works pretty good!) Thats was good..when i only bought netbook, but i thought what XP is much better and faster ("like a rocket" hehe)). But thats exactly same.. So now will have 7, upgrade it to Ultimate and have fun :)

Will try to test some more modern and pop games on it.

    Ok so I bought the
Atheros AR5008X PCI-e mini wireless adapter, since the stock msi wifi is garbage
I installed it, installed the latest Windows 7 driver, it shows up under network connection, fine and dandy
HOWEVER, it will not connect, anytime I right click it and say connect, it says 'no connections available'
It is enabled, I tried disabling and uninstalling the native adapter, trie turning off and on the wifi switch, it just will not connect,
Am I doing something wrong, must I 'turn it on' somehow, or tell the laptop to use it
    Thanks!

Sorry to ask again but is the fan meant to be running all the time?

Mine is and I don't know if that's normal or not. Other lappys I've had it would come on/turn off as needed.

Can other users please tell me what yours is doing.
