Yes, mine is running always. It's ok.
Mine, also, had a deffect, so it was running very loud. (replaced it at Service Center)

Any idea if there is a way to plug 4 gb memory in u210?
And is there any difference in performance between PC6400 and PC8500? (this concerns mainly 2gb plates :))

Yes, 1 slot, and, according to the manual, 2gb ram maximum. But i haven't seen any experiment with 4gb, so it's still possible

Could anyone wright a short manual on overlocking U210?
Or may be it is enough to copy Elanzer's settings for RMclock and and setFSB (post #55) and add them to "startup" folder?

    http://winhlp.com/rmclock.htm

go to this address for a tutorial on how to use rmclock. After you go thru this Elanzer's settings will make sense.

Wow, so happy to find this thread. I have a U220 (apparently the same thing but with Win7). This thread has so many answers!!!

So it looks like it is still up in the air about 4GB RAM, if I try, I will post back. What about "ReadyBoost", we could stick a 4GB SD card and use the Windows ReadyBoost feature right? Would it help?

That HD Decoder card....will that help with, say, YouTube HD videos? What about Hulu? Both of my stutter.

Has anyone else attempted OSX86 installation? I have read the X1250 ATI is completely incompatible so therefore impossible.

Anyone else have a little light spill on the lower left of their screen?

Light spill is common for all of us, don't worry. According to the Russian forum, it plays youtube HD well. And if you buy Broadcom HD decoder from E-bay(you are lucky if you are from the USA) and insert it into the pci-e it will also play 1080p too.
I don't know about 220, but 210 has X1270. though i remember that there was a report concerning mac os here in the thread.
And thanks for the hint about readyboost - I'll definitely try it, SD cardreader was absolutely useless for me.

Wow this thread is amazing!! it is like "THE" source for everything U210 related.

I gotta say MSI has the worst marketing department in the world they have one of the best performing netbooks on the market and there is little buzz on the internet. I don't get it. I tried Asus, Acer, and now MSI and cannot believe the performance of this little U210 with AMD Neo.

So far I have OC'd it to 1.92ghz and undervolted it (thanks to this thread) which now give me about 40 more minute of battery life. I upgraded my hard disk to a low power Hitachi 500Gb drive which actually performs faster this added about another 10 min to battery life.

Then I purchased a SD to PCIe adapter thinking it would be nice to add an internal SD card just for readyboost. Although the adapter worked great, it's performance does not meet readyboost standards. So now I am replacing that adapter with a Crystal HD which is currently on the way.

The reason for my post is to add to this mountain of knowledge out here. Back in the days when all computers used single core CPU's there was a tweak that we did to windows to make it perform significantly better.

After making this change last night I was amazed at the difference in multitasking, which is pretty much every app we are running these days. This is for everyone running a single core AMD Neo or any single core CPU really...

    What does this tweak do?
basically, it changes the way windows handles task priority. the default for windows is to focus on the foreground task. You would think this is great right? well not really.... even when you are only running one application windows still has many programs (services) running that do everything to keep windows running. Let me give you an example...

Lets say I open one firefox window to watch a video well you just actually opened up many applications (or threads). lets list a few
    • Firefox- is one thread
    • There are multiple threads for networking
    • Virus protection is checking everything
    • flash is running is a separate thread
    • and the list goes on and on
What I found was that windows was so focused on the foreground that the networking/virus protection in this case would almost cause a lockstep condition where the computer was waiting for data etc...

So how do we resolve this, well it only takes 1 minute...

    • Find a "My Computer" icon and <right click> on it (on desktop, start bar, or file explorer)
    • Select "Properties" from the context menu that popped up
    • if you have Vista or 7 select the "advanced system settings" all other versions you will skip this step
    • in the window that popped up select the "advanced" tab at the top
    • now in the "Performance" section on that window select "settings"
    • another window will pop up select the "Advanced" tab
    • Now you see the meat of this tweak there is a section that says "Processor Scheduling"
    • change this setting from "Programs" to "Background services"
    • thats it... now hit "OK" to accept the changes

the title on this setting is misleading. What is really does is simple it gives all running threads equal priority. It does not focus on background services like the title would have you believe. I noticed that now everything is snappier and I can multitask many more applications. This greatly helps performance by helping the single core CPU multitask better. IT will really help your Windows experience on the Single Core Wind U210. As a developer I am always running at least 10 things at once. Remembering this setting from the golden days of single core CPU's has really improved my environment!! :D

Good point and welcome to the thread. There used to be a msiwind.net board that rather suddenly disappeared to i don't know where. I'll look and see if I have a copy of my OS tweaks for the wind that i posted there. Windows has a number of settings that allow you to allocate not only clock cycles but configure various forms of memory so as to maximize performance of single core systems.

If i remember correctly, I managed to improve the Msi atom based wind's 3dmarko3 score about 70 percent, and one of the other members, using my settings managed to beat that on his machine.

I agree the 210 is a very efficient *bang for buck* netbook buster. I only wish I had been able to get my hands on a 230 as the HD3200 is a substantial improvement over the 1270.

This is probably too late to ponder since my last post was a few months ago =\

But, I just purchased a MSi U230.. after getting bored of my U210 for nearly a year now.

However something caught my eye and I would like to confirm something before I void my U210's warranty and disassemble it. I saw a U210 on eBay with 4GB RAM installed (yes u210.. not u200 or u230) but a AMD MV-40 powered U210.... similar specs otherwise, x1250, 160/320gb hd.. etc.

I messaged the seller and he responded.. "i read somewhere it can handle 4GB so bought a kit and installed it"

After doing some homework, I found the following:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16834152141

    http://www.lapspecs.com/wiki/msi+wind12+u210

Hmmm.. I have the U210-006US model.

Wonder if anyone attempted to successfully install 4GB ram =)

    A handful of thanks.

P.S. If anyone's interested I'll do a review on the MSi U230 when I receive it on this coming Monday.

it can support 2gb wide scale (many different manufactor types of sodimm) 4gb you have to get lucky in picking one that works and theres no list as its not officialy supported. if you have found someone who has gotten 4gb to work on it ask him what model number the 4gb sodimm was and it will most likely work on yours as well

I need a small shoulder bag that fits this notebook tightly. What do you recommend? Thanks.
