I just tried out Dragon Age again briefly with fraps running. 1024x600 and all settings on min but it was only average of about 8 fps during the last battle. So not really playable. I'll check some other games later when I overclock and compare the difference.

My local Fry's sells the single core U230 for $450. Is this a good price? an 8 cell battery is also listed. Can someone confirm this? Thanks.

its a 6 cell battery upgradeable to 9 cell. and $430 to $450 is a good price on the single core $480 to $500 is good for the dual core

So has any one from the US gotten this yet? Buy.com seems to have some in stock and right now. Would be cheaper for me to go that route than to pre-order from Amazon. (BCB and no sales tax for me on buy.com).

So only like one person owns this laptop here? Not a very popular machine, eh? Fry's has the single core version on sale for $379.99 this week. Battery life is said to be "up to 4 hours" with the included six cell battery. In actual use, it's probably around 3 hours.

with only a weekend remaining till the shuttle spa standard is launched I'm holding out to see if i can diy a congo 11 or 12 inch, if i cant the u230 is on the top of my list, but i will only buy from a net retailer i trust, and so far its not available from newegg, tigerdirect, mwave, zipzoomfly, ewiz, amazon in the dual core version. while provantage or buy.com may be good sites i have never bought from them and there details pages always look shady and lack info. many people may be as cautious as me when spending money on the net and that may lead to few people owning this laptop as of yet.

as an owner of the u210 i can atest to the strength of the neo cpu, the u230 dual core will be the king of netbooks whenever it is fully released. of all the congo netbooks being released this is the only 1 that will have bluetooth, gigabit ethernet and wireless n stock out of the box and will still be around 500 US. the problem iks waiting for a retailer that is trust worthy to ship it .

So far I'm counting 3 US models:

    U230-027US
    U230-033US
    U230-040US

Way to keep it simple. :(

The U230-027US model is (according to MSI) also known as the L2300-038US, and even more confusing is that I cannot find anything different between this model and the U230-033US.

Have you tried an app called AMD Overdrive? Seeing the U230 has a variant of the 780G chipset, Overdrive should support it.

asb1 bga socket chips are soldered to the board to reduce height on small form factors. it can be changed from the mv-40 to the L335, L325, or the L625 which uses the same socket type however, it would require some highly skilled solder work that i personaly would never attempt. obtaining a replacement motherboard with the desired chip already soldered in place would be the way to go.

ok bud thanks, just couple more questions :)

ive put in 3gig ddr2 800mhz memory replacing the 667 stuff it came with but 1.6 prozzi is pants.

im on 32 bit at the mo
if i went to windows 64bit would that give any improvement in the processor even if its slight, if its the same i wont bother.

p.s i couldnt see any soldier bit on the processor unless its underneath.

    thanks for any help

Cool! Thanks for the heads up! Wonder if any outlet will ever get white? :)

Have you placed an order or are you still hoping for a Shuttle solution?

I read a review on the U230 that the webcam is sub-par in comparison to other netbooks. Mostly the reviewer was disappointed in how dark it was. Can anyone comment on this? Also, is there a keystroke to disable the webcam? With all the talk about the school's spying on their students makes me a bit uneasy having a camera that can't be disabled.

    Thanks

i'm holding off on buying a notebook now because money is being allocated to 1 my dead video card in my desktop and 2 the ceton quad ocur cablecard tuner comes out at the end of the month so laptop is placed on hold till next month.. i am in no major rush as i still have my u210.
    http://www.cetoncorp.com/products.php

shuttle is only catering to business with target orders of 300 or more of the same exact build atm.. basicaly shooting themselves in the foot. if your gonna go all out to make strides toward standardazation they should sell the parts individually then give loem's a discount based on volume. sadly there deployment as it stands may go nowhere. large companys dont need it and smaller companies that are interested wont be interested in 300 of the same exact build. if they want to cater to loem's they need to bring that min order down to like 5 or 10 not 300. my computer shop will never push 300 units of the same exact build hell i would be happy if i pushed 300 units of all builds combined in a year. currently i'm only selling about 30 lappies a year but that number should increase when i can lower my cost by building myself or the ability to buy at wholesale rather then buy at the cheapest price and mark up 5 to 10% trying to stay competitive (the real money is in the repairs not the sales but it would be nice to get some loving from the selling too).

changing to 64bit isnt going to make the cpu any faster however optimizing your build will, 1 thing you can do is set your machine to background tasks so that the cpu is shared evenly with all apps rather then the front loaded and back apps strain cause freezing. overclocking the cpu is also an answer ... the neos are essentialy athlons underclocked so theres a large margin of over clocking possible the MV-40 in your rig is the same as my u210 and i have it pushing 2.15ghz and runs smoothly with just about all apps even hulu desktop running on cpu alone as the hd1270 in mine doesnt help at all on flash.

i read some dude say he only gets like 100 mins of battery life from his u230? can that be right. the t115d gets 5 hours with light use.

the u230 is more readily available where i am.

the u230 should get simmilar run time as like equipped lappies with same battery size approx 3.5 hours stressed and close to 5 hours of light use. if he is only getting 100 minutes he has a defective battery that isnt accepting a full charge and should replace it

    Check out this:

    http://mini-gaming.co.cc/?p=124

It is for the Acer Ferrari One, but has the L315 CPU instead of L335, but it works on the L325 CPU in the Toshiba T115D-S1125. Not 100% compatible but it will get you a little boost. The PLL they use with SetFSB is: SLG8LP625T

Let me know how it works!

What do you mean by "setfsb doesn't go that high"?

It worked with the L315 and L325. Did you try the PLL I listed and move it at each tick point along the slider and click "Set FSB"? There were only a couple ticks that worked for me.

its not the processor your overclocking its the whole board, theirs a pll chip on the motherboard :)

my problem is setfsb only goes to rtm8804 or something like that, and if i try the clocks on that pll the netbook crashes. :(

but ill keep trying that pll types, if you find anything else bud that might help let me know ... cheers :)

I know how setfsb works. They all have the same chipset, so it should work. You must be using an old SetFSB. Go download the latest one. It is in the list.

Ok, I guess I misunderstood you. I am asking only because I am considering returning my M11x and save a few hundred bucks and going with this machine. I liked the Toshiba T115D, but returned that so I could get the M11x. The nice thing about this MSI is it has a slightly larger screen (12.1" vs 11.6"), wi-fi N, and it's a little smaller and lighter than the Toshiba.

It seemed the Toshiba would game decently for the things I wanted to run only if I overclocked the CPU and GPU. If I can't run the MSI a little faster then I guess I'll just have to suck it up and keep the M11x.

Join the line. They're tyring to do that with the M11x as well.

That's the thing, I debated on the M11x with a less powerful netbook, or go full bore now. I don't really NEED the M11x at the moment, but probably will in a few months, then I'd kick myself for not having it. Especially since I got an awesome deal on it. I could probably sell it in three months and almost make my money back.

if your looking for a portable thats affordable and having some ability to game with decent battery life look into the ASUS UL30Vt-A1 at about $800 it has 10 hour battery life and a switchable nvidia g210/intel 4500 it packs a su7300 core 2 duo and is 13.3 inches. i've considered it but i dont want larger than 12 inches and dont want to spend more then $500

Ok I'll bite I have the 040us neoX2 . I am very impressed so far. Great bright screen, fast boot ( even better after sticking a Vertex SSD in with clean 7)
I did bump it to 4 gig it came with a single 2 gig 667 . It is WAAY faster than my ASUS 1000H. 7 scores 4.2p 5.9m 3.2bg 4.7gg 6.9hd . I have not had a chance to run batt all the way down yet, but have run it for 3+ hrs on the first charge with some browsing and getting updates and still say over an hr left.
    More to come

Why are so few big stores stocking it? Is the 4 hour battery thing really putting people off that much? How much battery time do you people need!

For anyon who has one can you answer me does the touchpad have multitouch gesture and do you know any online stores who will ship to UK? (not inc provantage)
