I think those ppl in mediamarkt been lying .. they thought that IPS is in GS60 so it must be in GS70 .. but it isnt..
I have seen IPS ''word'' on MSI official site b4 I opened this thread and after few weeks they took it of soo.. No one GS70 will be with IPS panel .. Looks like they done nothing hey just upgraded motherboard with new standards .. which is cpu , ram , new storage interface , usb 3.1 etc.. but fans , body , screen , keyboard , sound , remain the same..
I am really really disappointed how MSi failing .. hey trying to save money as much possible.. and laptop is overpriced! Really ridiculous !
I am now looking at acer predator laptops they have nice IPS screens and they are maybe cheaper ! offering same HW and + usb type c with thunderbolt support and nice 2k IPS screens

The predator looks nice but you have to notice the weight: 3,95 kg instead of 2,6 kg (GS70) and the size. The advantage of the GS series is the slim- and lightness. The predator is a classical gaming laptop so you should compare it with the other MSI series (GT, GE, GP).
-
I like the exhaust on the back not on the sides .. -
Got my GS70 6QE this morning and here are some impressions:
- Unfortunately it has no IPS panel but the TN panel is better than I've expected. I can see everything from every perspective. I can tell nothing about the color quality because I've no comparison but for me it looks good (I'm an ordinary user and don't know what I should criticize).
- The keyboard looks really beautiful and I've no problem with the spacebar like Pepe2020. Only negative point: If I type on the keyword I often touch the touchpad with the right hand = Cursor jumps and that's frustrating. Maybe I need a little bit more practice.
- The fans are really quite if you're not gaming! You can definitely use it at the university, a library etc. When you're gaming it depends on the games you play. I tested Sonic Allstar Racing and this game needs no great GPU power so the fans where not loud. But in Witcher 3 they were really loud. So this is not a good laptop if you want to play in the public (university, a cafe etc.) Medium-High Settings with 50-60Fps. I recommend you to watch a YouTube video about the last revision (GS70 2QE). They've tested the noise and you should compare it with the noise of other gaming laptops.
- Can't say anything about the battery because I haven't test it yet. But I had no issues with the charing of the battery (I have previously suspected in this thread)
- Size: If portability is very important for you then you should take the GS60 with 15" ...the GS70 is bigger than I've expected. 15" would be also enough for gaming but I preferred the GS70 because I've to work on many windows at the same time in my business. And I just want to be mobile at home and not outsite. The weight (2,6 kg) has the same weight like my 6 years old Sony Vaio 15" ...so I thinks it's light but it's too much (for me personally) to throw this on my shoulder every day.
I know that my description was not so good but many points like the noise, weight, size etc. is subjectuvely. For me it's a very good alternative to my desktop computer and now I can work everywhere in my house (I have four floors). But for a student who needs this laptop every day it's definitely not portable enough. -

Yeah it hapens to everybody who has laptop and tries to type something while touchpad is on .. it is enormously driving me crazy so if you wanna advice jus disable that touchpad and get.yourself nice mouse e.g. logitech and use mouse.. no cursor jumps anymore ..
Last thing open your screen fully and look at it from bottom and check how's screen from this angle..
EDIT: can you test the speed if it is really over 2000MB?Last edited: Oct 13, 2015 -

Hi guys.
I got the GS70 6QE a few days ago and I have already deliver it >.<.
In this short time, my experience was disappointing, all because the display panel have a poor quality. There are two problems with the panel. I'll may explain.
- Poor view angles.
- Dotted in gradients.
I compare it with my old laptop, also a TN panel, but a much more quality display than GS70.
Some samples:
View angle samples (GS70 on right): 1 - 2 - 3
Dotted in gradients: my old laptop - msi gs70
This dotted may be confused with pixels. It's like an 256 color gif image, so even I created a sample of this problem to know what I'm referring: this pic.
Now I'm interested on GS60 6QE but I must know if the panel is significantly better. Most difficult I would like to know if the supposed GS60 IPS panel have the same "dotted" than GS70 panel.
I open a topic on msi forums. I don't know if I can reference it here. -
The GS60 is better. The GS70 is treated like the bastard stepchild of MSI's line for some reason.

This relates to cost, so they are smart to keep the same design for awhile. -
Guys and here on youtube is new video and they even lying that RAM is DDR4 but in reality it is just old DDR 3
woman pointing on specs where says DDR III ! RIDICULOUS !
-
Hey guys check this out ...
here is exactly same product as msi gs70 but different logo printed on it msi is not even its own brand... they doesn't own this design of laptop now all sudden it can be medion laptop

As for the other comments, remember intel 6th gen CPUs can use both DDR3L and DDR4. It is up to the manufacturer to use DDR4 only, but it could, in theory, be possible to ship a new 6th gen CPU with DDR3L memory. I don't think the RAM sockets are compatible though. -
Simply in taiwan there is one mega big factory where all laptops are made and designs are made by completely different group.
Laptop manufacturers will hire design company, they will make design and laptop company will pays them..
And it depends who will order or pay for design..
And then it is very easy print laptop brands logos etc..
Same thing is with laptop shenker and eurocom or sagerLast edited: Nov 5, 2015 -
Point was that msi is so generic company it is not uniqe like acer
Acer has original design.. -
Keep in mind that unique does not equal good. Medion and other companies may choose to use "whitebooks" because the models work, instead of figuring out designs for themselves. Acer has original designs for a while now, and they have had many lines before, but their track record is not as polished as MSI's or Asus when it comes to gaming.
Personally I don't like the GS series design. I prefer the GT series, but mostly because they tend to have better cooling. The only reason I wouldn't go with Medion when it comes to copies of MSI laptops, is that MSI offers better support and warranty for their models, instead of a generic warranty etc. -

They all have their own designs and perhaps copy from each other once in a while.
-
I mean Acer used to be crap but in 2011 they changed.. Since then they are very good
All these taiwan companies Acer, Asus,Clevo, MSi, Lenovo, are very good but msi is behind by not fitting IPS screens in their laptops for some weird reason..Last edited: Nov 5, 2015 -

Hey.. it was really really bad. I've send it back to the seller. The display has only 150 till 170 nits.. all other laptops on market has minimum 250 nits. With 150 nits you can make nothing. And the colours of the panel are so bad! I have buyed the new Alienware 17 r3 with an skylake 6820hk ... an 980m an uhd panel for 2500 euros. I know the price is heavy. But i can promise to you that the new alienware 17 r3 modell are the best gaming laptop on market. It has the best battery lifetime work with wifi and write some texts in office or Make something on the Internet i have a lifetime of 4 till 5 hours at 25% brightness. So you would laugh 25%. But 25% on the uhd panel on the alienware are 200 nits 25% is more than 100 % on the 6qe. Ive never seen a laptop with a brighter display panel. 100 % also 400 nits are so bright you dont can look on it. When I'm on the power supply im all ways at 50% or 75% of brightness. And one more thing! The alienware has the best uhd panel at the market!!! 88% of adobe rgb. Look at notebookcheck! The new schenker has the same when you look to the best panel list.. the schenker is the second! First is an full hd hp zbook. But 88% with an igzo uhd panel non glare with 400 nits. You will never seen a better screen. Its also the right laptop for business work or photographs they worked with photoshop and other. 100% srgb amd 88 % adobe rgb is Georgios. The build quality is so much better then the Msi laptop.. and all ways better than asus rog series! The lighting effects are nice too. The keyboard are also great. The speakers are nearly loud as the speaker on the msi gt72 but lower bass but thats a fact i can live with. The alienware 17 r3 is heavy 3.7 kg but its slim and ultra durable. Its not so slim like the msi gs70 but much much thinner than a asus rog 751 or a msi gt72. So on top dell has a super warranty. Is anything not happened and you have a technical problem.. dead pixel or anything is defect .. at the nex day dell make a time with you and repair it. You read right.. at the next day !! No need to send in like other brands and wait weeks for weeks till get it back. So when you would buy a new gamer laptop.. with the best panel ( AUO IGZO UHD Panel with 400 nits non glare and 88% adobe rgb ) buy an alienware 17 r3 with skylake 6700hq or 6820 hk !! You can't believe how good the laptop is when you unbox the package
-
-
Yes .. of cause i could buy an external monitor.. but is that what people want who buyed an laptop? When i want an external monitor i would buy an tower computer and not a laptop. The fact why people buy a laptop is the mobility. There are no compromise with a bad laptop panel in a laptop priced higher than 1500 bugs. When you can buy a better laptop like the alienware for the same price as the msi .. you're better go with an alienware. For 2000 bugs at msi you only get an 6700hq a bad panel and a ugly battery lifetime. For 2000 bugs at alienware you get a 6820hk a 400 nits panel with uhd ( i promise to you.. notebookcheck have test the new auo panel as the best uhd screen ever build in in a laptop with 88 % of adobe rgb thats also for professional usage like work with photoshop or other things. I'm done with msi because their bad service and the ugly build quality. I have testet the msi gs70 6qe and the msi gt72 6qe both with an 6700hq before that two models i have tested the asus g751. And nothing of them comes over the new alienware 17 R3. Check it yourself! You would never want another notebook. And when anybody say oh the msi gt72 6qe are better than the alienware because it has an mxm graficscard and you van build in the newest nvidia i say yes the fact is right but the mxm costs are heavy 800 bugs .. so alienware has a external grafics amplifier in that you can build in any grafics card you want for lower price with better grafics results because you can build in desktop cards. Thats the right way !!

Yeah I know but I would NEVER buy laptop more expensive than £1000 .. -

Hello guys
I have received the screen..It is great screen and I had quite hassle to fit it properly without any issues !
Fitting this LG IPS screen requires to remove hinges on left and right.
Once I put plastic screen bezel back on bottom the pressure created HUUGE light bleed reflection..!
Then I had to cut screen's screw mounting plates on top/bottom left/right
Then I had to rearrange eDP cable because cable was making bump in back of the screen and causing pressure to the screen so creating bleed when plastic screen bezel fitted...
I managed to snap plastic bezel when first time remove it on the bottom right
But once fitted it cannot be seen so much
Now all is nice and flat and I successfully replaced TN with an great IPS screen it is very nice
IPS RULES !!!

Excellent Pretator-X! Getting a worthwhile screen installed is always a nice experience, and definitely helps enjoy using your laptop more.

I think pixel density is bit higher -
MSi released GS70 6QE with 3k screen, but they AGAIN messed it up on their site..
I've seen it couple days ago ''3k'' sign and now it gone, there are two identical models listed ..
The web site maker needs slapping on his hands really ..
If it is 3k screen then it would be probably either AUO B173ZAN01.0 or brand new Innolux (chi-mei) N173DSE-G31
That means I could have had an nice 3k screen replacement done

Did you use double sided tape to mount the screen? and any chance you could write up a guide, with pictures to show what to do, would be awesome.
Thanks, -
no am not gonna mess with it it is fitted so no.. -
Ok managed to replace my MSI GS70 with the IPS screen - LP173WF4-SPD1. Thanks to Predator-X and some MSI GS70 teardown videos.
Things to note.
- Make sure to unplug the internal battery before you try working on replacing the screen.
- Scissors will be able to sear off those tabs located on the top and bottom on the replacement screen.
- Double sided tapes would help to stick the screen to the lid, but the bezel itself seems hold the screen in place.
- The connector for the screen, slides outwards not upwards and be careful.
- You definitely need to remove the left and right hand hinges that hold the old screen in. They are L shaped.
- When you remove the old screen you should have lying about 12x black screws, 8x silver screws, 2x L shaped hinges (supports the old screen), 1x TN panel. I guess keep this if you ever want to revert it back to TN though i don't know why you would want to. Lol!
Have fun.Last edited: Mar 30, 2016 -

@riot123 - Solid advice. And yes, above almost anything else, remove all power (including the battery) before servicing anything. Even if minimal contact is made with any circuitry, this is a good habit to get into.

*I don't want any sticky tape on lid from inside something will go wrong and you won't be able to remove screen because double adhesive and you will have difficulties to remove screen which will result in ripping off screen and damaging from the back.
*I bended screen cable a little bit because it was long .. it is ok bend it once and leave it fixed.. I had cable little bit behind the screen when fitted first time (where is already taped not flat) and it caused pressure on the back of the screen resulting light bleed so I figured it out and bended cable under the screen. No bleed anymore.
*I kept screws but forgot where I put them and I sold crappy TN for £50 pounds -
Which screen would be better to get for gaming? 4K or IPS with Gsync? Also is the IPS w/ Gsync as nice as the 4K display?

I am after to replace crappy TN panel in my GS70 Stealth Pro (GTX970) so what do you recommend guys ?
Mr Predator-X solution with LP173WF4-SPD1 ? or perhaps relatively new MSI GS72 or newest GS73 4k panels would work with their predecessor GS70 ?
if so what panels are they actually holding ? and where is the best place to buy these, please.
Thanks in advance. -
